[Q] Back-up, restore sms - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to factory reset my LG G3 (D855, android 4.4.2). I have used Settings -> Backup & reset -> LG Backup service to back-up just about everything onto SD card. At the end of the process, messages failed to be backed-up while the rest Contacts, Calendar etc. are OK). Am not sure whether this refers to SMS messages (of note - I have no MMS in my collection of SMS, i.e. only text SMS), which I do want to back-up and restore afterwards (after the factory reset). I am hoping to avoid having to use an app to achieve this e.g. SMS Backup & Restore. Would anyone be able to confirm whether the LG Backup service include backing up the SMS? Thank you in advance.

In my case it backups the sms, yes.

Restore Contacts/SMS Titanium Backup

Well I successfullly mangaged to install my first custom ROM last night - very chuffed!
I used TiBackup to backup all apps and data, and once I had installed LeeDroid I did a "Restore Missing Apps + Data". However, I don't have any of my non-gmail/facebook contacts or any of my SMS messages.
Have I done the wrong type of restore?
No it doesn't back them up, it only does applications as far as i can tell, and your actual SMS and MMS messages, as well as your contacts aren't stored 'within an app' i believe.
I would be intrigued to know what people use to back up their contacts data with though ?
If u check all ur backup things on titanium, there are some "special backup" (i don't know how explain) for SMS/MMM, paired bluetoot, call logs etc (if u did a full backup of ur system app)..Check it, they have the titanium icon..Anyway i never tried that..let us know
[SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage 2.2
is the proper "item" to backup SMS history.
To restore it, you MUST reboot your phone before they are fully restored.

[Q] Best way to backup SMS and MMS

Basically, as the title states I'm looking for options for backing up my SMS and MMS messages.
'My Backup Pro' does a fine job but it doesn't save the time stamps. Once you restore they all show up as new messages basically.
I'm looking for a way to backup, or even better, automatically backup or sync my messages.
(Too bad Google doesn't have a messages sync option like it does with contacts and calendar)
Thoughts?
I havent found a way to backup both SMS and MMS together.
SMS Backup & Restore backs up SMS with the TS and you can restore the backup.
I use Handcent to back up MMS.
Does My Backup Pro backup both SMS and MMS? I should try that out later tonight

Yep, you have the option to backup both. You can also backup apps and data, or either or. I really like the app otherwise.
I use an app called backup to gmail. saves all my sms, mms, call logs
real time
you can save the mms and sms seperately onto your sd card. But as for backing them up the only reason the backup is if your trasfering to another phone or flashing roms. If your trasfering to another phone go to a cellphone store and they can back up messages on a maching called cellebrite and trasfers the complete state of the phone to the other. As for just flashing roms i believe titanium backup will back it up, or you can make a nandroid and dig deep in the nandroid and pull up the messages.
Doesn't titanium backup save those?
I've done several backups/restores here of the call log and sms. Time stamps appear to be preserved. I do believe TB requires root access though.

[Q] Restoring SMS messages from original SD backup.

I did one stupid thing, manually clear all data from HTC Sense, from apps menu.
Now i see that all my SMS are gone.
I don't root my desire or install any additional software for backup.
Also, auto backup is enabled and phone tried to install this latest backup before week or two, so i know that i have a recent backup of my phone.
Phone just didn't finish upgrade because it runs of the memory, had only 17MB free
So, my question is, are there any way to manually initialise backup procedure and return my phone on my last backup or just somehow manually restore my SMS messages?
Thanks!

Backing up and restoring SMS, MMS & Call logs

In the past, when switching ROMs, I have been using 'Call Logs Backup & Restore' for my call logs, and 'Message Sync' for my SMS & MMS messages. These have done well in the past, with Message Sync restoring the SMS & MMS messages and preserving their original timestamps and order. the only problem I've had with it is I have been unable to have it back up to the external SD card as when I try to point it there, it complains that the FOLDER I pointed it to is in fact a file and thus fails to back up.
I am trying to run the CM10.2 unofficial ROM and had no issues restoring my call logs, but when I try to restore my SMS & MMS messages, it gets to 20-25% and then fails. The messages it restored are all fine and have the proper timestamps, but it seems to always fail at the same spot.
Titanium Backup did appear to work.
Aside from Titanium Backup, does anyone know of a good 'All in one' app that can backup & restore the call logs, SMS & MMS messages?
SMS Backup & Restore always works for me but it doesn't backup MMS (which I don't care about), only SMS. It's made by the same developer as Call Logs Backup & Restore.
I use mybackup (pro, but there is a free version. The pro just let's you restore from phone to phone, both work great!) And I set it to backup to my SD card instead of internal. Always worked very well for me. Would highly reccomend it.

Backing up SMS, apps etc before ROM install...

Hi guys, sorry for the lame question. I feel bad asking because I've done dozens of different ROM installs on all kinds of different phones down the years, but there's always something I've never got.
How do I back up all my SMS's, installed apps etc and restore them after I've done a FULL WIPE and installed a new ROM? (SMS is the main one, I hate losing all those)

The process I'd suggest you for transferring your data when switching ROMs is:
1. Back up
For SMS's, use SMS Backup & Restore. It creates a backup XML which will be used to restore your SMS's after wiping.
For apps and their data, use Titanium Backup (Requires root).
For calls, Call Logs Backup and Restore. It also creates a backup XML like SMS Backup and Restore.
For contacts, I personally sync them using my Google account. If you don't like this you can use MyPhoneExplorer or any contacts backup app.
2. Full Wipe & ROM install
2b. Root your ROM if it is not rooted already.
3. Install Titanium Backup from an APK or Play Store.
4. Use Titanium Backup to restore user apps and their data. I suggest restoring ONLY user apps, unless you know what you are doing. Now it is also a good time to check which apps you really need to restore, since you may have back ups of applications that you don't need anymore.
5. Restore your SMS's and call logs from their backup XMLs using their respective applications.
6. Restore your contacts by syncing or by using the app you chose to back them up.
I've found some that backup to XML won't work if you have pictures in your messages. So either, save the pictures off, or you can use this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=backup.email.inapp&hl=en
It uses your Google account to backup and store your MMS/SMS messages. It works great.
How about using LG backup. It can backup both apps and data so I think it can both backup sms and call logs...
