[SOLVED][Q] IMEI and Baseband unknown. I don't have a backup. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

[SOLVED] I put my phone in airplane mode and my IMEI/Baseband came back, cheking the service menu I went to *#2263# and saw that "LTE Preference" was enabled. I clicked on Automatic and problem fixed. Probably a ROM bug? Who knows.
Hello there. I've been a reader of the XDA forums for some time but I never had any reason to create an account to post on the forums.
A few weeks ago I got a SGH-M919 as a gift, the phone only had a few months of use and I took it with me, everything worked fine except for the fact that I couldn't get 3G/4G (Not even EDGE), I was only able to connect to the GPRS network and I couldn't change the carrier (It always gave errors like "Unable to connect. Try later" and such). Although the phone is (apparently) quadband (I don't live in the US), it just didn't work but I lived with it.
Yesterday my phone was low on battery and I turned it off, a few hours later I turned it back on and it couldn't connect to the network, I went to the network options and once I pressed the screen to enter the Mobile Network options, I got an alert saying that I must have a SIM to access those option. At first I thought that the SIM got damaged somehow (This isn't the case since it works perfectly fine in another phone) but after a few minutes looking around, I checked the IMEI and instead of the usual number, I got a null/null message. My first reaction was to google what exactly happened and the answer I received was that the Baseband (Which is also Unknown) and IMEI are stored in a folder called EFS and that it got corrupted. Sweet. I looked for solutions but the main two I got (EFS Pro and ADB nvrestore) require a backup of the EFS (Which I don't have).
The other solution I got was to restore to the stock ROM (M919UVUFNH7) which I'm currently downloading from SamMobile (Sorry if this is considered spam). The phone is not rooted and has the stock ROM, it came with a CWM folder inside the internal memory with an .img file but it doesn't have CWM intalled. I've never upgraded it (Not sure if it came with that firmware from the store if it matters).
I live pretty much in what can be considered a "3rd world country". So I cannot send it to Samsung nor I have access to dollars.
Another question is, the phone was gifted to me already unlocked, I don't know if it came unlocked from the original carrier or if it was unlocked via a code or whatever. If I restore to the stock will it lock my phone to T-Mobile again? Would I be able to use it without a SIM card if it gets locked? It's impossible for me to get a T-Mobile SIM on my hands should I ever need one. In the worst case scenario that my phone gets locked, can I get it unlocked by flashing a custom ROM?
I have so many newbie questions that are already answered in other threads, but since it's a lot of information I want to get it as specific as possible to avoid breaking my phone.
If someone can help me with this issue, I'd really appreciate it.

i having same issue in M919

Do you guys get a message in notification bar about sim car removed or something about a sim card? Also, it doesn't matter if the sim card works in another phone. This device has a little issue with being picky with sim cards. If it's a cut sim card, get an original micro sim card

Hi, thanks for answering. I don't get a message about a removed SIM card. I'm also using an original micro SIM.
I already downloaded the Stock ROM but I haven't flashed it yet.

This is a known bug of the s4. It is a hardware problem and I have yet to find a solution. If you google it you will find many threads on different forums addressing this issue. Again, no known solution

Any answer/idea about my issue? . Sometimes I can access Mobile Network Options, sometimes I can't. I can't configure the APNs (They delete themselves after I click on save). Phone Serial Number didn't get deleted (Which is stored inside the EFS folder as far as I know). I also can't select a Network Mode. I click on GSM/WCDMA/LTE but it changes automatically to nothing.

That's what I said? One solution is to change sim cards if using a cut sim card to use an original micro sim. It's worked for a friend if someone I know and also for others on XDA. It's not the solution, but works for some

I would get a new sim anyway if I could. Flashing stock firmware wouldn't hurt as well

Before trying to flash it, is there any risk of getting simlocked again? I wouldn't want to get my IMEI fixed just to realize that my phone is locked to TMB again
UPDATE 1: My IMEI and Baseband randomly got back (My IMEISV was still missing) but after I restarted, they got deleted again.
UPDATE 2: Rooted, went to EFS, didn't find nv_data.

[Q] IMEI Problem

I don't know whether here is place for it or not but i couldn't find any solution anywhere else. I bought my W nearly 1.5 years ago. Since one month earlier, everything has been fine. But then I received a message saying ''Your IMEI number is clonned, please contact with your firm.'' I went there and they said the very only solution is to bind IMEI to one phone number. This is very important for me because I use my phone for connecting net on my PC via USB Tethering and for this everytime I have to switch SIM Card. Now, I have two questions about this;
1) Is there any other legal option to do but bind the IMEI to just one stable phone?
2) If not or it's the only legal choice, what can I do to use another SIM on my phone?

Are you using Stock ROM/Firmware? Have you tried to Factory Reset your device?(Backup your files if you are planning to do so) If Factory Reset won't work, try re-Installing Stock Firmware.
I'm using LiquidSmooth v2.9, every other thing is stock. I tried changing ROM but i didn't work ( tried stock also)

Changing ROM either stock or custom won't change your IMEI. Some says you can change it using a program but I'm not sure though. In some country, changing it is illegal and punishable by law.

Yea, in my country it is illegal. But I don't want to change my IMEI, I just am asking whether there is a way to use another SIM Card when my phone's IMEI is stuck with only one stable phone number. But it seems now there is no way.

I'm a bit confused mate cause in my country we can always use different kinds of SIM Card, of course with our own country's communication networks (globe, smart, talk n text, touch mobile, sun, etc.) as long as our phone is not locked to a specific network but it can be unlock too both prepaid and post paid.

I'm trying to unlock my phone, I bought used on ebay, I found found a thread here that shows you how to unlock, but can't even do the first step. when I install a different sim card, I don't get the message Unlock, the phone reads the sim as a non support sim.
the sim I'm putting in the phone doesnt have service on it, Is this the reason the unlock message doesn't come up?

you can use free unlock from general http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024514
but of course you have to do it from uvkl1. but--you can do a nandroid, and after you unlock it, restore your backup! it will stay unlocked

Seems your phone's ROM/Radio mismatched or not for MetroPCS. This exactly happened to my phone also, until I flashed a new radio for my rom(I am using TMobile, flashed new TMobile ROM but not new Radio. Then it had the problems as you have now).
New sim fixed

[Problem] Sim card issue in another country.

Hello folks,
I asked that question a while ago in VomerGuides thread, however the problem wasn't resolved.
The thing is that when I got my sim card and phone from Vodafone (in the Netherlands), whenever I went abroad the sim card was working properly. Then I unlocked my bootloader, s-offed, rooted, achieved super CID and installed custom recovery. After this point whenever I go abroad, and I try to join a network within the particular country the phone says that the sim card doesn't support the selected network.
I talked with vodafone, they said everything is fine with them. They also gave me new simcard in case there was a problem with the old one - nothing has changed. I still have the problem...
Any ideas whether the problem is actually caused by all the manipulations I did, or there is something else?

No SIM card

Hello I have an unlocked SGH-T989D phone but the problem is it will only detect sim cards from Koodo even though it is unlocked, I've tried flashing many different roms and different radios but nothing is working. Currently on stock 4.0.4 /T 989UVLE1, yes the phone is unlocked I checked multiple times. Anyone know how to fix this?

How do you check if a phone is unlocked if any SIM you try from another company is not read by the phone?
I think you need to try the unlocking procedure again, I don't think it was properly unlocked

What method did you use to unlock it?
I did it with this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024514) and not a single time was I asked to check with the code that you have showed me
This IS for the T989 though, not sure if you can use it for the T989D or if it's different in a way.
Sorry that I can't help, I hope you get the answers you are looking for

My brother used that method a long time ago and he was able to use different carriers, but now nothing works but Koodo, and I never get asked for an unlock code, just says 'No SIM card'

Yeah, this phone will not ask you for an unlock code, if you follow the procedure correctly it will read any other SIM card on it's own
Try unlocking again with what you have, the stock 4.0.4 and UVLE1 combination, it should be the right one. Do the procedure again until it reads the SIM card you want.
Another possible problem could be that your SIM is damaged or not well placed. It happens to me when I try to fit a Micro SIM on it, if it is not well placed it will not detect it. Try using other SIMs or try it on other phones to see if your SIM is the problem

I tried unlocking it again, doesn't work, tried different sims, and still doesn't work, but those other sims work on different devices. Only the Koodo one works on mine, which was what it was locked to before unlocking.

Well in that case I'm all out of ideas.
One final question, when you insert a SIM on your T989D that is NOT Koodo, do you get an "Invalid SIM", "No SIM" or just an empty signal bar?

My conclusion is that it's having a hard time reading the SIM card. When you put another companies SIM card in to a LOCKED phone, it will show as invalid SIM (sometimes it even shows signal but is unusable). Since it says "No SIM card", I believe it's more of a hardware problem than a software one.
All I can think of is try moving the SIM card around, turn on. If nothing changes turn it off and move a little again, the turn on and repeat until it reads it.
Apart from that, I have no clue what could be wrong with the phone.
Turn on your phone without any SIM. If you get the same message (No SIM card.|Emergency calls only|) then it is most definitely your phone not reading your SIM correctly. If you get Koodo signal WITHOUT any SIM inserted (which I doubt but it CAN happen) then that means you have a faulty SIM Card Reader on your phone.

It works on Koodo but only if the sim is inserted, also I tried moving the sim around and it still isn't reading. I think this is a software issue.

Sorry man, I'm all out of ideas. I mean I've experienced the problem with the "No Service" thing, but I basically fix it by switching to 2G since I know there are some areas that I can't get 3G coverage. As for your problem, it's basically not reading your SIM entirely (by either software or hardware issues) and I wouldn't know how to get around that.
Best of luck to you

No SIM card inserted after unroot and upgrade

As above really. Not really sure if it's a hardware or a software error here. I've read that the sim card readers can be a little fragile but there was no fuss during the removal so I would be surprised if that was the issue. What I'm wondering is if I've missed something when un-rooting my phone.
I was using a custom ROM, all working fine, but I've got a new phone so I decided to unroot my old one to sell on. I flashed my original firmware using the LG Flash Tool. Firmware file is "UK Vodafone 16G D85510A_00.kdz". It all went great as far as I could tell and I started upgrading. The final upgrade was the install of Marshmallow 6.0.
In order to find out if my phone was locked or not I put my Wife's SIM in. Rather than coming up and asking for an unlock code it simply stated that there was no SIM inserted. I thought that was potentially down to the wrong SIM being in but when I tried mine I was met with the same error.
Have I missed something? Did I need to change the baseband or something during the process?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I've had kinda same problem since a couple of weeks ago...eventually SIM card gets read for a short while and get back to that No SIM card inserted state.
It has happened with any ROM as well as OG FW flashed through LG tool.
I haven't tried another SIM on my G3 but my SIM does work on other cell phones.
