[Q] Will Sprint S4 SIM work in the N4? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Looking at buying an N4 used on Amazon. As such it will not have the SIM. Will my S4 SIM work or will I need to get one from Sprint?

I dont think Sprint sells 'burner sims' as easily as Tmobile does. But ive never gone the route youre going.
People have had success with swapping SIMs (on same carriers, of course), so id do a little more research before you buy.

Initially when I got the note 4 in October around the release date, there were issues with the signal quality and I read a few threads that stated if you swap the SIM card it would fix the issue. I had a previous s4 I was using with Sprint and I did swap the SIM card to my new sprint note 4 and it booted and worked OK but I didn't really see any improvement . so I ended up swapping the card back to the original sprint note 4 sim card and had it reactivated. So for me going from Sprint s4 to sprint note 4 I was able to swap the SIM card. your mileage may vary?

My Sprint store gave me one for free. They just asked if I was going to activate my phone on Sprint.

I upgraded from iPhone to SGS3. Now I'm upgrading my wife to my SGS3 and taking the Note 2 which I ordered as her upgrade.
I'm assuming all I need to do to activate the Note 2 for yours truly is swap in my SIM. However, since my wife is moving from iPhone to my SGS3, I'm guessing that the SIM being shipped with the Note 2 will need to be inserted in the SGS3 and activated for her number... but... the AT&T site claims that the enclosed SIM is titled "Replacement Micro-SIM for Apple iPad." Someone please tell me AT&T isn't shipping a Micro-SIM for an iPhone whose use we are discontinuing.

Just call in and tell them that you're using the note and she is going to be using the sgs3. They have to change the data plan to a Lte data plan. Its easy and free. Its call a device swap.

Well, I purchased the Note 2 as an upgrade on her plan and upgraded her data to LTE in the midst of the contract agreement. I mean, I guess I'll just wait until I open the package to find out if the SIM card they are supplying is the correct SIM for the Samsung device or if it is, in fact, the Micro SIM titled on the order.

You will need to be able to hardware mod the phone to accept a GSM sim on top of the hardwired chip.
You'll also need balls of steel.

The sprint note has no accessable sim slot. To "possibly" accomplish this one would need to modify the hardware by adding a sim slot and hack the software.
there is a thread about sone folks attempting this...i have not been following it.

in layman's terms, you can't. if you remove the back cover from your device there is no sim card slot on the sprint variant to insert a sim. the only current wait to use our phones abroad is to use the sprint international plan.
Got it
Thank you all for your help. I sold the phone. I had no choice...

You could buy an AT&T Note to use with Straight Talk. I have one for sale on eBay right now (Note 1, not 2) that I bought for that same reason, but don't have coverage where I live to make it happen. http://www.ebay.com/itm/290826024805?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

note ii sim or search for this one 271090307387
$6.47 swap that plug and play component into place and BAM sim card slot.
either cut a hole in your middle cover OR buy a int middle cover.
also someone is working on a mod solution to keep the 4g AND add a sim card slot
we off course still need to unlock to work on US carriers but maybe its not locked to begin with since they would not have thought of someone swapping parts like this.

very cool. do you know if you can do a similar trick with the ebay sim card holders for the Galaxy S3 (i.e. L710) ? I'm really hoping to buy a sprint GS3, put it on ting, and be able to occasionally take it internationally.
I was about to buy a motorola photon, but the lack of updates is scaring me.

maybe it's just me, but amazing that so many people still believe that phones are compatible with other carriers............if you have Tmobile, AT&T then you're GSM network, Verizon & Sprint are CDMA..............it just bugs me when people ask to get their Sprint phone activated on another carrier (only exception is Cricket). I had someone a couple of days ago who bought a Tmobile version of the Galaxy S3, and wanted to know how to jailbreak it to use on another carrier.
normally you would be absolutely right. but in this specific case and possible with the S3 as well your incorrect.
the Note II and possibly the S3 have full GSM capabilities. Sprint just "corrupted" them on purpose (and should be illegally as well)
with the gizmo from ebay we get a normal sim card slot. now we just need a good hacker/coder to unlock the intentional "block" put in place by sprint to prevent it from seeing US GSM signals from companies other than sprint.
once someone manages to do that we will literally have a phone that could in theory be used on "ANY" US provider and probably any world provider.

based on a search of this and looking at pictures. why would you lose 4g? the lte chip is built on the processor board.

the statement below is 100% correct. the hardware in this phone is fully capable of GSM service. the removed software controls are the problem.

I don't know. Someone posted that the LTE SIM card (a chip on the board) is part of this board. so removing it would remove LTE (disable it)
but if your going SIM your going GSM so can't use sprint LTE anyway. so its not a "huge" deal.
Magic Sim?
I contacted Magic Sim and they said their Elite Micro Sim would work with Sprint. It did not show on the site so I emailed them and they said it would.

look on ebay at the people that do boost mobile flashes for the note 2. send them a message asking if they do the sprint note 2 to straight talk. most of them I talked to do this for like $50 if you have a new donor. If anyone needs more info pm me and I'll be glad to help

Micro Sim Question?

Ok I upgraded to the S3 yesterday and didn't know the sim card was smaller than the s2 so I cut it to fit and it works but only on UTMS not HSPA network like I got with my S2. It says 4G in the status bar but network is UTMS not HSPA like it's supposed to be. So my question is if I buy the special sim card at tmobile for $ 20 will it make a difference or not? Basically will I get my HSPA network status back.Makes no since that on the S2 I got HSPA but only UTMS on the S3. Is there something special in the newer sim cards? I noticed the gold pad on the mini micro's are smaller than the regular sim cards as well. Thanks for any insight.

I know... It's crazy for sure.
If you call the 1-800 number for Tmobile and tell them what happened, they will tell you it's free.
That's what I did before I went down to the local Tmobile store to get my card replaced.
The way I found out it was free is I googled it and found it was free, this was even before I called
the toll free 1-800 number to verify it.
Hope the store that told you it's free is not too far from you.
Good luck!

No, my S3 did not come with one since I purchased it new on eBay
and I did not even know that the sim card in from my S2 would not fit..
Oh ok. I thought that sny new T999 would have a sim in the box, but maybe its only if you buy through tmobile.
Anyway, glad you found a new one for free. If your other one was yoo old some features wouldnt work anyway, such as wifi calling or hotspot.

Tmobile does not require you to buy a phone from them, I just switched to tmobile about 12 months
ago from AT&T and at that time I had the S2 then I purchased the unlocked S3 on eBay.
Even though it was new I never expected it to come with a sim card. LOL
I was unaware that the S3 sim is a lot smaller because I over looked that detail about the phone.
Then I went down to the local tmobile store and they gave me one free of charge and un-registered
the old larger sim which I had.

Activate new TMO SIM card or keep old one?

So my new S9 should be arriving today or tomorrow … it’s my first SIM phone to SIM phone upgrade (previously I have Verizon with CDMA, no SIM cards).
Both phones from T-Mobile.
The S9 will come with a new T-Mobile SIM card, I’ve heard conflicting advice about this. Originally I was just planning to take the older TMO SIM out of my Galaxy S6 and plop it into the S9, but some recommend activating the new SIM instead.
I've had my S6 for 3 years and I believe it's unlocked at this point FWIW, but it's not rooted.
Any pros/cons I need to consider? Do SIM cards "wear out" or get new tech that I should take into consideration?
Thanks!
This is very similar to https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/help/verizon-sim-card-one-s6-t3763294 but that didn't really help me :-/

Unlocked, Dual-SIM Note 10+ - No Data on AT&T SIM

So - this is my 1st Dual-SIM phone, and I'm very happy to get away from having to carry 2 different phones (personal on T-Mobile; work on AT&T - in the USA). I thought that everything had been working correctly - until I was away from my Wi-Fi signal. If I have SIM1 selected for data (T-Mobile), everything is fine. If I select SIM2 - I get nothing. It always shows 3G for AT&T even though I'm in a very strong 4G area for AT&T.
I've been through the Access Point Names settings for AT&T and they matched what I found on AT&T's web site. I even duplicated them with a new name to make sure that they were correct - still nothing. I've played around with which slot the SIM card was in as well as only installing one at a time (just AT&T in SIM1, just AT&T in SIM2, etc.) rebooting the phone each time - still no luck.
Hoping for an assist or "things to try" from the community as I don't expect much help from AT&T on an unlocked phones. Any help is very much appreciated!
Thanks!

Welcome to the DS family. Does SIM card manager show 4G/3G/2G enabled for both SIM's? On my older Note 8 4G wasn't supported simultaneously so you had to manually switch the 2nd SIM to 4G but on my Note 10+ this limitation doesn't exist but still worth checking.

That would've been too easy. Do you observe the same behavior if you swap the SIM card positions? Also what if you put in just the AT&T SIM by itself (i.e. does it ever get 4G in either slot)?

I've tried both slots with just the AT&T SIM - never get data and never anything but 3G. Strange thing is calls and texts go through...
Hmm, that sounds like it's missing an LTE band it needs to get 4G with AT&T. I don't have an AT&T SIM hand to test with but for the non-US Samsung phones don't have full support for the frequency bands US carriers use (I'm assuming you have an intl phone so correct if wrong.).
I have the dual SIM and get LTE on ATT. I reckon you need to contact ATT and tell them you are using a note 10+ and need LTE enabled.

Spent 2 hours on the phone with them last night. They had me set up the Access Point names over & over - no luck. They suggested I buy an AT&T branded phone. Big help...
I once came from another device to another device and had the wrong kind of sim for 4G/LTE. Or maybe the sim is damaged, or it's just registered wrong.
So: try Hard reset the device AND get a replacement sim card from ATT (can get them at the store and don't let them sucker you into paying for it). Perhaps that will do it.
Came across the post below - I do have an old AT&T SIM card (6 or 7 years?). Looks like an Android 9 update at some point caused issues with older AT&T SIM cards. I'm heading out to get a new SIM from AT&T tonight... Thanks for the attempts at helping - I'll update tonight and let you know how it goes. May be in for a fight - it's a corporate phone and I'm not authorized on the account...

So - I was able to get it working. I had been using the same SIM card for 6+ years. However, getting a new one didn't fix the issue.
They said that the IMEI number wasn't coming up as a valid number. I had a One Plus 7 Pro laying around, so I had them register the new SIM card to that phone, and it magically started working (the old Sim didn't work in it, either). After getting that working, I just moved the SIM to the Note 10+, and haven't had any issues, since.

Lastly where did you buy yours from? If it was eBay what was the seller name?
