[Q] Could I get some advice on underclocking my N7, to get the most battery life/scr - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi guys. I've been on XDA a long time but I know next to nothing about under/overclocking safely.
I basically just want to use my N7 as an e-reader for a while and I was just wondering what your thoughts are on what the best rom/kernel combo/settings would be for achieving the best battery life and screen on time?
I'm currently running CM 12.1 with the stock kernel and power saver switched on. It's better battery life than on stock but not a great deal more.
Thanks!

Kernel and rom for battery

Hey guys,
I've tried the codename android ROM and i've loved it, so with this rom my battery draining so fast.
So i've installed the rom minco v5 with the franco kernel and its really better for the battery. But with this rom i dont have any option to customize my phone.
So my question is, is the rom have an impact on the battery or just the kernel do the job?
So can you post your rom+kernel combo with your battery draining experience ?
Thanks

I personally have found less impact on battery life on rom/kernel combination than I felt I should have. My biggest boosts to battery life were disabling google now and putting the phone into edge mode when im not needing high speed connections.
from a logical point of view, it's more likely that more customization options will eat more battery, since there's more code running than stock. don't be mistaken, it's personal, your SPECIFIC usage will dictate battery drain. for me, stock has the best battery life.

[Q] Stock 2.3.6 vs Custom ROMs

I bought my Galaxy W and instantly started modding it, currently I'm on Arco's CyanogenMod 9 EOL, I didn't have much experience with the stock ROM you actually get with the phone, Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread with TouchWiz 4 UX.
My question is, is the stock ROM the most stable ROM with the best battery life you can get?
I would like to have some basic info like how smooth it is, the battery life, usability compared to the later CyanogenMod ROMs. I'd like to know whether its actually the best option except being kind of out of date now.
Thank you in advance :good:

Actually my battery life and gaming performance is way and way better at custom roms. Im flashed stock rom around 10+ times and after a half day im installed a custom rom
Cheers

From what I know the stock rom is better at keeping the battery use low during standby but i don't know whether that's true

I think that's true..
cause some Custom ROM come with some tweaks, some can keep the processor running low during standby. some also have some kind of better ram management.
Also if you want, you also can try some other kernel. cause some can even make longer battery life
switched for a tweaked stock 2.3.6 to a custom ICS and never looked back, the performance is just much better
I would say that my battery lasts longer with a custom rom. On stock sometimes it suddenly went off.
Currently I'm fine with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2214042. And the camera isn't green.

[Q] How to maximise battery life?

Just got myself this tab.
Any tips on extending battery life and which roms, if any, help with this?

A custom kernel should do the work. Try ElementalX or Glitch or even Franco if you're not very experienced. Make sure you set the Location to Battery Saving also. Settings>Location.
Auto-Brightness is good but also a bit of a battery killer. Do without it for more juice.
I'm also a moderately new owner of a Nexus 7 and from my experience so far, every single one of the custom roms are really really good. Its very hard to choose. I would recommend CarbonRom and CleanRom

Custom ROM or stock for battery life?

Just got a second hand HOX in great condition & upgraded to 4.2.2. Very nice but battery life could be better - is battery life generally better on custom ROMs or am I better off staying on stock?
Many things can be used to increase battery life
A good kernel will deactivate some core of the Tegra3 for example so you can start with that
Are there any non-root apps which can control cpu usage? Thinking root is probably the only way...

Recommend Kernel/ROM for battery life?

Hey guys, I'm wondering if any ZL users can recommend the best configuration for battery life?
My ZL is c6506 unlocked bootloader. I don't use games so not looking for overclocking or newest feature tweaks.
Really trying to find most stable setup and settings for longest battery life, to do simple phone calling and web browsing.
Can anyone please share their recommendation?
