Music From Watch = Skip Like a Mofo? - Moto 360

Sup guys,
Just hopped onto the smartwatch bandwagon. Loving it so far. Only issue I've had is with listening to music directly from the watch. This was one of the big selling points for me. I'm a workout fanatic and wanted to use it on my runs and in the gym. Anyways, when I'm on my runs I notice the music skips like crazy. Almost as if it were a scratched CD or on a poor internet connection.
Any ideas what might be causing it? I've tried two different sets of bluetooth headphones. It seems to skip the most when I'm actually running, as opposed to walking or standing still. I'm going to try telling the phone to not turn off "tilt to wake" to see if that's the issue. Will also try out a 3rd pair of headphones next. Other than that though, not sure what else I can try? Maybe ambient screen? Any thoughts? Has anyone experienced this? Could I have a defective 360?
By the way, this is with JUST my watch and headphones. The phone isn't in the equation (I've read if the watch is connected to more than one device, ie headphones and phone, skipping occurs on music).
Thanks in advance for any thoughts/ideas,
Gods

Think I figured it out! I think the skips are when the watch tries to check if the phone is in range to connect with. Looks like putting the watch in airplane mode and activating bluetooth afterwards will allow for the watch to pair with the headphones and play music without the constant skipping. I haven't done a large test yet, just ran around the yard for 5 minutes. I'll test it in greater depth tomorrow.

Any success? I'm on my second set of BT headphones and still getting a lot of skipping.

I am using Jaybird Bluebuds X, never had an issue, music never skips. But playing BT Music from watch causes my watch to shut down randomly, sometimes around 50%, sometimes around 75%

Is it heat related? Maybe can monitor the temperature of the watch somehow.

Is there any app other than google play music that can play songs stored in the watch?

Songs auto skipping with headphones plugged in

So I am sure others have this problem, but when rooted with Toast's any rom causes the music player to keep skipping songs when headphones are plugged in. And if you just plug them in it starts up the music player and does this.
It sometimes stops and doesn't do this, but it seems to do it a lot more when you are walking with the phone, maybe something with the sensors?
Anyone else have this problem?
BUMP.
Anyone ever figure this out? Seems like a hardware issue but I have no idea. Just bought a new pair of the same model headphones and it started with my new pair. I can hold the phone in my hand smack it around, shake the phone, shake the cord and nothing. The very moment I drop it in my pocket it skips the song.
I was working out yesterday and while actively doing chest press my phone was skipping songs every 2 seconds, VERY hard to concentrate with that crap. Just wondering if anyone figure this crap out.
The OP is right when its sporadic because it skipped nonstop, then I took it out reattached the headphones and back into my pocket it went. A good 15min went by without any skipping. Soooo I don't understand it. Only thing I can think of is the static electricity in the pocket or something.

[Q] Motorola S9-HD problems..

Hi, I'm having issues with my brand new, just bought today Motorola S9HD bluetooth headphones. I am having three issues so far:
First Issue: The headphones seem to work with the Google Music player (stock, but newest version via market), but I cannot use seek controls, play/pause.
FIRST ISSUE SOLVED BY REMOVING WP7 MUSIC PLAYER AND ONLY HAVING STOCK ON THE DEVICE.
Second Issue: While I'm listening to music, I sometimes want to make a quick call. I assume with these I should be able to hit the call button, which goes to voice commands, then I say who I want to call, and boom, done. BUT! whenever the screen is off and I'm listening to music, then click the call button, it gives me three or so beeps but never quits playing music and never goes to voice commands. THE ANNOYING SOLUTION THAT I FOUND: When I turn on the screen, I am able to click the call button and go into voice commands, call whoever, etc.
SECOND ISSUE NOT SOLVED EVEN AFTER SWITCHING TO STOCK GOOGLE MUSIC PLAYER.
Third Issue: For some reason, I will get a random space (0.5 seconds to 1 second) randomly of no music, then it resumes. BUT sometimes it just all together stops playing music. I have left it for a couple minutes to see if it'll resume, but it doesn't. Then I look at the phone and it says it's still working, and the only way to make it play music through the headphones again is to restart bluetooth via the phone.
THIRD ISSUE POSSIBLY SOLVED BY USING STOCK GOOGLE MUSIC PLAYER INSTEAD OF WP7 MUSIC PLAYER. BUT SUGGESTIONS ARE STILL WELCOME.
Thanks for all your help!
2nd issue: did you tell it the first time what voice control you want to use? Like Vlingo, google voice, google search, etc.
3rd issue: no clue, mine does that too and it is annoying. I notice it gets worse if the battery is 2 or so hours without a charge.
Thanks for the reply. I'll try assigning the voice commands app.

muy issue with my Moto S(HD is that I continually have to re-pair every time I try to use them. anyone know why?
Regarding item #3, I think this is more related to the bluetooth stack on the Atrix crashing than it is related to the S9HDs. I don't have that problem with my S9HDs, but I routinely get it when paired to my car stereo. Probably happens once a week with my car stereo, whereas I've only seen it once in several months with my S9HDs. I'm hoping the bluetooth stack has been improved when we get gingerbread shortly.
I've a nokia BH503 BT headset ATM and never had those issues. It works with EVERY app on the phone, even the emulators, games and notifications sounds through the bluetooth headphones. I luv it.
Before my motorola atrix I used a Blackberry Storm + motorola S9HD BT headphones, and had exactly the same issues u report...
I have the S9HDs and I get pauses too. The thing that frustrates me is that it depends on where I have my phone. I have a jacket in wear when I bike ride that has a pocket on the inside. If I put the phone in there it constantly pauses. If I put my phone in my pants pocket it doesn't pause at all.
It seems like an easy solution, keep the phone in my pants pocket, but I wear workout type pants when riding and they are not deep pockets so I'm afraid the phone will fall out. It just doesn't make sense that the farther I put the phone from the headphones the better it works.
Sent from my MB860
I use these, and play music with PlayerPro............have no issues. Don't call often with the headphones, but have not had problems with them there either.
I routinely have my phone in my pants pocket while I walk around the office listening to music, and never lose my connection.
Not much help I know, but there are I guess some of us who don't experience bluetooth issues.
I installed playerpro, and I'm liking it so far.

S9 HD's reception is really bad. And I tell you cuz I had those. I mean, u can´t use the phone on your pants' pocket without lil skips... Nokias' reception rocks, and the battery last longer.
The problem with the s9 hd cutting out is reception. I have been using this headset for about 2 years while riding my motorcycle, with three different phones. They all had the same problem. With phone in my front pants pocket the problem persists. With phone in my shirt pocket, or in a backpack behind me, it never cuts out.

Streaming bluetooth audio while moto 360 synced question

Hello,
Just wonder if I am alone on this one. I noticed today that when I stream music on my note3 to my car while being connected to the moto that the must quality dropped. I use Google play all access paid feature. This has never happened before when I didn't have the watch synced.
Has anyone else heard of this? I am going to try to use spotify tonight and see if it was a Google server issues or my signal.
Thank you
Custom rom?
It's possible the music streaming is maxing out the bluetooth and the watch updating itself is just too much, but for a Note 3 it should be no sweat...
I havent noticed any problem like that... you sure your audio quality from the play music itself isnt lower?
same here, no problem..same situation, same quality
Does anyone know how to NOT have Google music on the watch? I took it away from notification on the wear app but it still happens. I don't want to see what is playing or skip to next track on the watch.. For this reason and i'm sure its killing battery lift if I go on a long trip if it updates after each song.
I haven't noticed any problems. Nexus 5, All Access, with my BT speaker and in my Mazda, it works same as before I had the watch.

I notice the audio from my car cuts out or stutters. This is when I have my watch connected to my phone too. I never had this issue prior to the watch.
I'm using a LG G2 running Optimus 1.3.2 rom
On the latest PA Beta 2 Rom on my Nexus 5 and no issues connecting to my HTC Stereo clip. Used with spotify, poweramp, n7 player and other players as well.
I'm having an issue with audio dropping out and being interfered with too. Oneplus One, Moto 360, Audi Bluetooth audio. Very frustrating. Sometimes I can hear the quality level of the music change when it drops out, almost like it's trying different bitrates or codecs to fix the issue.
Least I am not the only one, but mine never actually drops. But I can just tell the quality go down. Like going from 256kb to 128kb..This is even music that loaded on my phone, Not spotify or Pandora.
Are you using ART or Dalvik runtime? This was happening to me after switching to Dalvik. Switching back to Dalvik solved it.
I noticed the audio quality drop as well on my HTC One m7, stock rooted. I first noticed it dropped slightly after getting a bluetooth obd reader but it wasn't enough to really worry about. Then, after getting my moto 360, the quality dropped even more to the point I had to stop using bluetooth for streaming music and use an auxiliary cable instead. So, it seems it's just using up too much of whatever bluetooth bandwidth is available so the audio quality drops in order to compensate.
I have this problem to, using a LG G3 with ART, I have to disconnect the moto 360 from the phone to have a good audio.
No problems here with my Note 3 connected to my M360 and Ford Sync.
This is a question I keep checking on too. Seems like the common factor for people not having issues drive a Ford, using Ford Sync.
I drive a Toyota [emoji107]
I've switched roms on my Lg G2. Im currently running Liquid Smooth (with ART enableD) and have not had any issues. I am streaming from my Google Music and bluetooth is connected to watch and my car. Cutting out and stutters are gone.
So may be ROM specific?
Small update; connected to a a Pioneer AVH- 200BT and the watch with no issues.
I'm having the same problem. My Moto 360 is constantly connected to my stock Moto x (original). When I stream audio over bluetooth from my phone to my car radio, the phone and radio randomly lose their connection to each other. Sometimes they appear to be paired and my phone says that it's playing, but no audio is coming out of the radio, so I have to cycle the phone's bluetooth off & on again to get audio working again.
Edit: I just found a thread on Motorola's official forum for the 360. Matt, the forums manager, thinks that the bluetooth capacity of the phone is being overloaded.
No issues with my note 2 connected to watch and my Hyundai car audio

After some more testing I still have the same issue, Works perfect with watch disconnected. There isn't some kind of widget or toggle that can discount/reconnect only the watch is there? without going to the wear app.
But I did find this, it has something with the music controls on the watch. I was uninstalling Spotify and reinstalling it. Before the watch was synced knowing I have the spotify app, I was able to use the app and play perfect audio. Of course this doesn't last long before the watch kicks in. After doing more re-search we CANT disable the controls on the watch no matter what. Least with the current version we are on, Hopefully that will change.

[Q] Are people happy with the SW3 as a GPS watch?

Keep contemplating this to replace my TomTom Multisport. Really miss the motoactiv when it worked, and it would be nice to transfer a Playlist, pop on the bt headphones and go. Will I regret the purchase? I have some amazon points and a gift card I can get it for about $80 or so.
I use mine mainly as a GPS device to keep track of my tracks. Ghostrunner is great for mapping your runs. GPS is very quick and accurate in my opninion (owner for 3 weeks, bought it for the GPS)
Overall i'm happy, used it with Ghostracer, Strava & Runkeeper some of the apps can be flakey but other than that i love it.
Love it! Ghostracer / endomondo to track runs while listening to music with Google play music - works very very well.
Good to hear. I just want to transfer a playlist to the watch and be able to go... 128gb card on the phone so I can store quite a bit.

Golf and running watch
Hi. I just bought the SW3 for running and golf. Was tired of lugging my phone along to listen to music. I tried Runkeeper but it stopped working a few times in the middle of a run. Have switched to Ghostracer and it has performed flawlessly. I put some music on the SW3 and it worked well with my Plantronics BT earbuds. I wasn't so happy yesterday on the golf course as the SW3 ran out of battery on the back 9. Could have been because I was using Golfshot and the SW3 was connected to my phone the whole time. I might try Hole 19 and put the SW3 into Airplane Mode. Still early days for me though. I rooted the SW3 yesterday and put on crpalmer's tetra kernel to see if that will help out with battery life.
Yes overall the GPS on this device has been great, especially with the Ghostracer app others mentioned. The only challenge comes in when the metal backplate gets really wet from a lot of sweat or if you get stuck running in a good rain. I had a 7 mile run in September that stopped logging at 4.1 miles when the drizzle coming down became a solid downpour. Ghostracer kept tracking time, but GPS coordinates gave up. It seems to be a known issue to many users.
Wifey has one and it's complete garbage. You have to start music and running app in a particular order, it takes forever to get a GPS fix and it invariably either loses GPS or freezes/crashes mid run. Sony don't even seem to have bothered to make a GPS tracking app, so users had to wait for the rest of the developers to catch up.
I normally take my phone with me when I walk or run so I can stream Pandora and, thus, use the phone's GPS. But a couple of days ago I decided to leave my phone behind and listen to the music I had downloaded to my watch. I had a big problem getting the music (Play Music) and tracking (Ghostracer) to stay on. I started with the Ghostracer and then turned on the Play Music, but the play music stopped the Ghostracer. Then I restarted the Ghostracer (which began recording as a new run), but this stopped the Play Music. I went back and forth a few times before I was able to get them both to stay on. It seems like everytime I left the Ghostracer display, it would stop the current run. Runkeeper (which I normally use when I am running with my phone) does not do this. For this reason, once I got them both to stay on, I left the display on the Ghostracer app.
Once I got them both to stay on, everything was fine, but this was almost a quarter of a mile into my run (which was supposed to be 5 miles). So I ended up going somewhat over 5 miles for my total run that day. I think the trick is to start the Play Music first, but I'm not sure. If anyone has any advice on this, please let us know.
As for the GPS, once I got Ghostracer to stay on, it worked flawlessly. It was at least as accurate as my phone's GPS is.
I should also point out that I was using Jabra Sport Pulse BTLE earbuds. I like it that the Ghostracer app displays both the average and current heartrate from the Jabra Sport Pulse on my watch along with the pace, distance, and time.
I don't like it that I can hear each step reverberate in the Jabra Sport Pulse earbuds as a heavy background BLOOMP, BLOOMP, BLOOMP... sound. The SMS BioSport earbuds that I use with Runkeeper when I run with my phone do not have this problem (and they don't have to be recharged).
So for now, I'll continue running with my phone, streaming Pandora thru the SMS BioSport earbuds, using the Runkeeper app on my watch to display the time, distance and pace, viewing the Pandora notifications on my watch for the artist and song title (and to control volume and skip tracks), and listening for the Runkeeper audio cues on my earbuds that give me my current and average heart rate (along with pace, distance, and time) every 5 minutes. This is not an ideal arrangement, but the best one available for now.
Strange about the Play music and Ghostracer interfering - I use both of those for each run and don't have any issues... Chrisinleedsuk - I do start Ghostracer about 2 minutes before running to get a good signal without the phone.
I have a pair of BT headphones but I usually use this BT adapter so I can use my nicer Dunu headphones:

So I'm looking to snatch up a smartwatch on BF or maybe treat myself this xmas if nothing goes on sale. But I don't see the point of a smartwatch if it can't track my runs with an independent gps to save me from running with my note 5 ( no armband in the world can stop it from rubbing my underarm) . Looks like I have to choose between the urbane 2 and the Sony smartwatch 3? Also, does anyone know do I have to have a cellular plan to use the urbane 2's gps?
Just wanted to make sure these are the only two choices so I can make an informed decision.
I'm not seeing gps on the urbane 2.

I have read on androidcentral and https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidWear/comments/3ss9lf/lg_urbane_2_does_it_actually_have_gps/ states that it does. Forums have confirmed that even without cellular activation that they can get GPs lock. So I guess that means these are the 2 devices I should look at
Not seeing where anyone confirms it has gps. The 2nd guy says yes to a video of gps in action, but that doesn't tell me squat. And there's no proof. The last guy owns one and can't tell if it has standalone gps because it makes him turn on his phone to use maps.
So what are you reading that I'm not?

Lol identical post times. But yeah I'm with you. I am looking for something with better battery life and screen based on common complaints from the sm3. Independent gps is a must to justify androidwear for me tho.
Yeah. I'm trying to avoid getting the Garmin, and I don't really "need" a smartwatch. Living with my TomTom multisport and carrying my Sansa clip with wired buds. Would love to ditch the combo. Not as concerned about battery life. Just want a seamless experience.
And with the way they update androidwear, I think it's the time to jump in with this generation of devices.

I'm happy user of SW3. As many people here, I use Ghostracer for GPS tracking. It 's not perfect, but quite good. Battery life may be an issue for long runs. GPS fix sometimes takes a long time, but otherwise GPS is quite accurate.
Do you get a GPS signal without connecting the watch to your phone? I am testing a smartwatch 3 and it need to be connected to my phone to find the place where I am. I am testing with Maps and Viewranger and none of them finds a signal.

Audio playback stopping/muting?

I'm having issues with the playback on my N5X when using headphones w/ remote. Bluetooth seems to work without issue.
The problem is, randomly, and usually within a minute of starting audio and putting the screen to sleep, audio playback will stop. Once I unlock the phone, it looks as if the OS still thinks audio is playing. If I toggle the play/pause button, I can get it to restart audio, but it does not pick up at the point where I heard the audio stop -- as if it continued playing while "muted". This occurs in at least 2 separate apps, which is why i'm thinking it's either an Android bug or possible a HW issue.
Anyone seen this?

I've had a problem playing audio using Podcast Addict over bluetooth, but it's not similar to what you're describing. In my case, playback just pauses randomly for a second or two, then continues. This can happen after 1 minute of playback, or 20 minutes. I'm assuming at this point that my problem is with the app, android 6.0 is still very new and some apps may have problems (like camera apps flipping everything upside-down).
Exactly the same issues with my Nexus 5X... Deezer and Podcast Addict. Music starts but as soon as the display is turned off, approx. one minute later the sound stopps but when I turn the phone on again the player looks like still playing... Very annoying... Have you changed someting like the "lock when power button is pushed" option ore anything which is connected to the display?
Same here with Spotify... I find that I have to unplug and replug the headphones, hit pause, then play again. :/ Have you tried disabling Doze for your music player? It may have something to do with that, but I haven't experimented with it yet.

Yes I Had this problem. Mine did the exact same thing as yours. I rebooted the phone and it seemed to fix the problem. I can't tell if I would have had the problem again because I sent my phone back the next day for a replacement. My WiFi was terribly slow so they are sending me a new 5X.
I'm having the same problem when I use Google Music. I don't even have to turn the screen off. Did you have any luck figuring the problem out?

Yes, I did deselect "Power button instantly locks". I'll try putting it back to the default to see what happens. I know this has nothing to do with the "Smart Lock" state, because it happens even when I'm away from home.
Otherwise, I've found nothing that solves the issue. It's very annoying. The good thing is it probably only happens 10% of the time when I turn off the display with audio playing.
Yeah it's happening every single time I play music. Driving me crazy
Having the same problem. Seems to only happen when I'm doing something that would trigger the motion sensors. So when walking, all audio gets muted within a few seconds of me starting to walk, then stays muted. However, if I pause the audio, after 10 seconds I hear a pop (like the sound of a speaker turning off or something similar) and audio is available again. Exact same thing happens when I'm biking. If I'm stopped, music will continue until I start biking again, pause music, ten seconds later pop, resume. Everything is fine until I stop again, then repeat.
This isn't a problem when I take the subway, or a bus.
It's not just music that's muted though, all notification noises and alarms are also muted. The phone thinks the volumes are all where they're set, but won't play anything either over headphones, bluetooth or the speaker.
A reboot has not fixed my issue. System logs haven't revealed anything. Since this doesn't seem to be a super widespread problem, I'll be RMA'ing this one and hoping it doesn't happen on my next.
I'm not the only one
I have similar issues with mine, using podcast addict and YouTube with either wired headphones or wired aux jack.
What I find weird is that I am able to continue watching the video but without sound. I am unable to reliably replicate the problem but it always happens very quickly in the car using the wird aux input.
Sometimes the headphones will be fine for a long time while I'm sitting still and other times it will seem to stop even if I have no motion happening or have not touch the headphones.
Would be interested in trouble shooting this please advise.
Putting my phone away without turning off the screen seems to make this happen less. However, since this doesn't seem to be a super widespread problem, I've RMA'd my device. Not interested in starting out with a broken handset.
Been happening to me too - think since the MDB08L update. I just turned off Google Now 'Always On' and my podcast is playing fine (so far, lol). Not ideal because I do use OK Google, but continuous audio playback is way more important to me. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon. How can we report issues like this to Google?
Interesting. I use Nova Launcher and switched off Google Now 'Always On' in the phone settings, but left it enabled in Nova Settings 'Gestures and Inputs'. I can still say 'OK Google' on any screen and so far the audio is playing without stopping every minute or so.
Getting this too. Was out running earlier with headphones in, stopped playing randomly five or six times but found skipping track made it work again. At home, had it on loud speaker, got 5 seconds in but it froze, skipped track and got 3 seconds, skipped again and just got 1 second. Gave up after that..
But it works fine when connected to a bluetooth speaker or my car!

I tried this - switched off the "Always On" option. Went for a 40 min run tonight with music on through headphones and it didn't stop playing once.
Even now, got the phone playing through loudspeaker and it's having no problems!
Exact same issue here .
Audio playback stops but device still thinks its playing ie speaker icon on top bar. Sometimes stopping app and restarting helps other times no joy. I have also heard the short pop sound when it stops.
So far has happened in Youtube, google music and in some games. Also intermittent loss of text alert tones too.
Only sure fire way to reset is to restart phone.
I shall give the switching google now always on off trick see if this helps and report back (never use it anyway but still it shouldn't prevent audio)
Try a reboot

I have similar issues with mine, using podcast addict and YouTube with either wired headphones or wired aux jack.
What I find weird is that I am able to continue watching the video but without sound. I am unable to reliably replicate the problem but it always happens very quickly in the car using the wird aux input.
Sometimes the headphones will be fine for a long time while I'm sitting still and other times it will seem to stop even if I have no motion happening or have not touch the headphones.
Would be interested in trouble shooting this please advise.

I did more searching online and found enough other people are having a similar to think that there's something going on with the software. One post on a nexus 5 X subreddit had talked to Google support and went through a process of a safe mode boot as well as a reboot. I have not tried a safe mode boot but a reboot has resulted in the best playback experience I have had since owning this phone. No interruptions in audio for the last several hours . I'm on Verizon and have not received any updates as far as I'm aware. I am hoping that this will last.
My phone updated yesterday... I'm not sure but I haven't run into this problem yet with the new update. It has only happen 3-4 times before the update but we'll see

After updating yesterday, I had it occur again this morning with video playback and the audio muting. So wouldn't be too hopeful, sadly...
