Lollipop 5.02 rooted and Samsung SmartView? - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Themes and Apps

I own a P900 which is on 5.02 (Switzerland). No root yet, knox not tripped.
I am using Samsung's app Smart View 1.0 (or SmartView) to stream the content of my Samsung TV (UE55F6470SS) to my Note 12.2. This works well with the current SmartView version 4.2.1.
My experience with other Samsung devices is that Samsung's app SmartView is no longer working properly as soon as a device is rooted. I am talking about the dual view feature (option to stream the TV screen onto your mobile device screen), I am NOT talking about the remote control features of the app (this one works ok). As soon as a device is rooted, the dual view app responded with a message "not available" once a device is rooted.
Knowing this I am reluctant to root my P900.
Can anyone PLEASE confirm Samsung SmartView 1.0 (for older TV sets) is working properly with a rooted 5.0.2, including streaming video? If so, or even if not so, which version of Lollipop and Smartview did you test?

Good question

Works fine on both 4.4 and 5.02 here while rooted. Latest version.Just don't trip knox or it won't work.

Did I miss anything here?
How can I root my 5.02 without tripping knox?

@kable
the method you are referring to "http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-pro-12/general/upgrade-to-rooted-lollipop-t3097035" is meant to work for the P905.
Any indications that it works for my P900 (different processor) as well?

Note 5 rooted, smart view fix.
I've used this method with the note 5 rooted and it corrected the issue with smart view.
Download Root Explorer (phone must be rooted)
Go to system, open and edit build.prop and add the
follwing lines to the end then save it
and reboot your phone.
wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable

it really worked for me
big thanks @sosa28

[APP] Modded Ziggo TV [Dutch]

Hello everyone,
I've modded the Ziggo TV app to disable the root checker.
There have been some workarounds such as hiding root in the SuperSU app etc., only this doesn't work with custom firmware like the newest CM10.1 and 10.2.
By disabling the root checker in this APK it's now possible to use it on all modified firmware.
This way everybody who is using a custom rom is now able to watch Ziggo TV when they have a Ziggo tv/internet abbonnement.
The file version is 3.11 so it's the latest available update from Ziggo.
At the moment I've tested it at a GT-I9001 phone, but i'm pretty sure it will work for other phones as well.
My advice for those people is just test it and report back please.
If problems occur I'll try tot fix those for you. Also when screenshots are wanted i'll be happy to post them for you.
The download link is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/aqsc14m3uvjla25/Ziggo%20TV.apk
If somebody is interested in the steps I took to modify the app, just let me know and I'll make a tutorial.
Greetings PsychoGame
Works perfect on Slimrom and CM10.2! great job

I can always look into this, but I can't promise anything.
At the moment I don't know how the app verifies this, if the check is server side it will be difficult to get around.

Using it on HTC One, HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7510).
All working perfectly. Thanks!

Muchos Gracias :good:
The original app does not work on the Galaxy Mega. It gives the message that the rom is not original or rooted, while it is not.
I was hoping this modded version was a solution. Unfortunately not.
Any chance we can get this working on a Galaxy Mega?
How did you mod this apk? I decompiled it but have no clue where to look....
Trying the app on Sony NSZ-GS7
I'm trying to start the app on a Google TV, the Sony NSZ-GS7.
The error that I get is in Dutch:
"
Helaas!
De app Ziggo TV (proces nl.ziggo.android.tv) is onverwachts gestopt.
Probeer het opnieuw.
"
(the app stopped unexpectedly)
Does someone know what I can do to make it work?
Thank you very much!

Thanks,
This didn't work for my MStar GoogleTV based projector. Tried the rooted and unrooted firmware of the system, both failed to play live TV.
Expected this one to work, but it failed as well. Are there any other checks that could be removed? (Just remove ALL checks)
I would like more info on how to modify any updates myself.
Thanks,

Thx!
Tested today on my rooted stock firmware galaxy s3 i9300, and it worked - as only one
So yeah, thank you!
And everybody loves to read about how to patch apps... I guess ; -)
Oh, according to http://www.appbrain.com/app/ziggo-tv/nl.ziggo.android.tv#descriptionsection , version Ziggo TV 3.2 is out too?

Didn't work in the end..
Hi,
I was expecting the modded version to work on my Android projector, because it ran fine on all my other devices (both rooted and unrooted)
Any other checks that could/should be removed?
Thanks,
Allegro16.
P.S: Working great on a rooted HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S3, etc. But not on this..
EDIT: Ziggo just got back to me, if it's not already supported i'm out of luck. They only support the big brands, HTC, Samsung, etc. No small Android boxes will be officially supported, only: "Helaas is de Ziggo TV App alleen beschikbaar voor iPad, iPad mini, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, Iphone 4s, iPhone 5, iPod Touch, Android smartphones en tablets. Op andere apparaten zal het dan ook niet werken. Excuses voor de teleurstelling."
"Unfortunately the Ziggo TV App is only available for iPad, iPad mini, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, Iphone 4s, iPhone 5, iPod Touch, Android smartphones and tablets. As such, it will not work on other devices. Sorry for the dissapointment."
I already tried renaming the device in the app itself to no avail.. Is there any way the OP could mod the app further? So it doesn't check which device it runs of?
Especially if you could tell us how it's done. Then i'm sure a working version could always be updated..
A quick compare (unpacking the Apk's as zip) showed the modded version is larger as the Original, especially classes.dex that lists"rooted_device_found_message !rooted_device_found_message_title"
Is that the difference? How to mod to work on all devices?
PsychoGame:
Any news or updates? I finally magaged to mod a version that installed, but it failed to show live TV as well..
Which file/part of the APK did you mod and with which tools? Tried replacing the Galaxy S3/GalaxyS3 references in classes.dex with MStar Google TV/MStarGoogleTV, but while it installed, no luck..
Any news/hints are appreciated!

This app works great! I have sent a message to the dev asking if he will update the app, but no response..
Does anyone have an idea how to remove the root check in apps? I have searched and searched, but alas..
Works perfectly on my Galaxy tab 2!

New note 4 Owner: Whats next?

Hi all,
Just got my new Note 4. Have not taken any OTA updates so I am on 4.4.4 Android.
Whats next to root, debloat, and install a custom rom? Who's got the best minimalist type rom out right now? From what I've read it doesn't seem like there is much out there for 5.0 - just didn't know what the process was for this earlier version still, and how to make the update nag screen go away, or if there were any distinct advantages/disadvantages to upgrading.
Do you have the retail or developer edition?
Currently the retail edition only has temporary root which goes away after reboot. The devs are currently working on permanent root.
The developer edition has permanent root and has the ability to have custom Roms
I bought a retail version from the Verizon store, I didn't know there were differences actually? This makes me kind of sad now.
No known root method even for the older un OTA updated setup? Thats very unfortunate...
There is is a root method for the 4.4.4 kitkat. It's just temporary at the moment.
Like I mentioned, the developers are working on making it permanent right now.

[Q] Does KingRoot work on S4 mini

Title says it all... anyone succesfully rooted using KingRoot?
For anyone interested, it works, without tripping Knox (see here).
Worked great for me. I use the s4 mini sm s890l (straightalk) edition. It didnt have a pre configuration for the phone but worked anyway.
is there something new for the latest firmware? i am with AP and CP I9195XXUCPD1
Thanks.

Safestrap and root?

Is safestrap a viable option since everything is so locked down on this device? I remember when I bought the s4 for Verizon, safestrap was my only saving grace. Will delete if this question has been answered. I can't find it anywhere though. Also, what are the chances of root actually being obtained because everything seems pretty grim to me. I can't even find any discussion on anyone even attempting to get root for 928a. Thanks much!:good:
Root, as for this phone, G928A, is slim to none. With the updates that fixed the Stagefright exploit, it's very doubtful. Safestrap will only work if there's Stable root (not temp root - like on Note 4, for example).

My only question left then is how did the at&t and verzion galaxy s6 variants obtain root? Stagefright exploit is still unfixed or did someone discover a new exploit?
They were on kitkat and able to get an exploit to work to have root. For further details, go to the forum and take a look

What apps do I lose on root?

I couldn`t find some kind of list of which apps I lose access to if I root the Note 10/10+.
The last android fone i had was in android 4.4, so its been a long time.
I want to root, but it would be nice to know the apps that i can't use if i rooted.
Thanks.
Secure folder, Samsung pay and any app that makes use of knox
Most other apps can be made to work with tweaks

Most important question you should ask , What do i gain by rooting ? ad blocking ? system ui theming ? all of these things can done without rooting but if you are using exynos version you will get most of lost functionality by going custom rom route.

If you want just root + Stock ROM
- Secure folder
- Samsung Pay
- Samsung Pass
- Samsung Health
- Google Pay - There are some workaroun, search XDA
- Many banking and other app but should be fixed with magisk hide
but I believe those app can be run if you reboot to device without root.
From above many things can be fixed with some patch like
- Secure folder can work
- Samsung health can work
- Samsung Pay can be used with Gear watch
only samsung pass won't work but you can use Google's auto fill option instead.
Good to know all these things. I decided to root it when it arrives. Thank you.

Is rooting difficult and is it really worth rooting? Isnt it possible to mess up your phone / void warranty? Seems like a big risk just for a little customization

Yes it is worth rooting in any aspect.
Rooting is not "little customization" rather then deep changes "under the hub" and "risk" is only for those who doesn't know why and what to do with rooted device.
And warranty ?...Really, due to "effective" Samsung "support"...who cares about warranty...
