Many options are here to allow you to tweek it to your needs. Some of them are more heavy for the battery.
For example, animation are optional, and even when activated, there are 2 modes: fast & slow (slow allows you to keep the animations with less battery consumption: slow refresh rate)

Neat face! I just bought it! So far it's showing zero for my steps. Thoughts on that? A different face I have displays my steps fine. Thanks!
Edit: I rebooted my phone and no steps. I then enabled Google Fit and its showing my steps. I use the jawbone up app for my steps but don't think it should hurt much to also use Google fit.

Is the battery meter for the watch or the phone. Can you add both or have an option to display both?

The battery displayed in the pictures is for the watch. But you can also add the battery of the mobile, as one of the data displayed by the round widgets

Step Counter
Hi,
If I choose Step Counter as one of the display options, I get a "There was a problem with Google Play services" (translated from danish).
Everything else is working, other watch faces (Ticker for example) show steps without problems.

Hi
This is kind of weird, because Google Play Services is a based library of your mobile. Try to reboot your mobile, and if it persists, check if you have the latest update (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.gms&hl=fr)

Looks good, but 2 questions....
Can I set my location manually (fixed) for the weather? I dont run GPS unless I need it.
And will the sms counter work if I use Wear Messenger. I block the notifications from the built-in messeging app on my Sony Z1 running KitKat.
Just for the record I would also like both watch and mobile battery levels displayed on the watchface. But the watchface could look a little odd with one battery level in one of the circles and the other listed outside seperately. I currently use Weather Watchface which has everything I need...except an unread sms counter!

http://hotfile.com/dl/126991111/9d3f7ee/S8500XPKH2.rar.html
downloaded it.... havent yet flashed.... ppl give some changelogs or reviews about it pls. the samfirmware one is freaky....
update!
This the latest beta firmware of bada 2.0 for the Wave I & Wave II. Samsung has compiled both firmwares on Monday 8th August. Below you will find a short list with some things that has been changed or improved:
- New icon (Sound & vibrate) in the statusbar
- Better Graphics startup screen Chaton app
- Slightly changed keyboard
- New startup screen Twitter app
- Slightly changed Youtube icon (Menu)
- Faster scrolling through photos
- Voice output, you download German test voicefiles. With voice output your device can read incoming sms text messages, email and more. I haven’t test this feature at the moment.
- Can’t log into my Samsung account.
Problems:
With this firmware I faced for the first time some real problems, because it will crash on some (stranges) moments (mainly using the twitter app). I advice you to set the debug level on low, so you won’t get a blue screen with detailed crashlogs instead your device will reboot automatically.
For the ones who are using KIES for backups, I can advice you to backup only the contacts and sms text messaging. I won’t suggest to use a full backup, I’ve tried it 2 times but both times my device crashed and it got stuck into a reboot loop.
Overall I can say that the devices are a bit faster (snappier) but it also crashed often than before. Since this is just a beta firmware its normal that it crashed.
Once again I’m warning people that they should be aware of these things. If you want a stable 2.0 firmware you should wait till 2.0 is ready!!
- How to fix Samsung account problem...
There is a new Samsung Account login in this beta Firmware and it doesnt work, users cannot type in passwort and after klicking on logon bada crashes. But there is a workaround, so everyone can use the downloads in samsung apps.
At the first startup page to configure language time, and samsung account there is still the old login page.
You can trick the wave by removing your simcard starting the phone with it, then it forgets that it was already the first time started.
After that simply add your simcard and logon on the first startup page, after that you will not see in settings/accounts any account but you can use them as always.
Email accounts can be handeled over the settings/email and so on.
You will see Samsung Account over samsungapps.
Things I've seen already:
- much faster and smoother than before
- font much easier on the eyes (clearer)
- bootsplash black again (no blueish like in XPKH1) / dialogs still blue
- the 3 info pop-ups after first-run have been revamped
- several icons revamped
That's nice, but based on what I have read on the SamFirmware changelog, I decided to NOT flash my phone with this firmware, mainly because I don't particularly like (frequent) crashes....
I'll stick to XPKH1 for now...
20 more min of downloading (hotfile is piss slow as usual .. 100kb/s )
Then i'll flash as well

thanks for the clarification, nevertheless I rely on the twitter client... Anyway, I'm sure the next beta will have these problems fixed, and I feel safe enough with XPKH1...
thanks again!
what i want to know is does it installs all apps? is it worth the download?
Seems SocialHub - at least here - (changed CSC to DBT) doesn't show my set-up Facebook account, though it properly display the feed and posts status updates.
You'll see that it actually added the account by checking feeds or "add account" there facebook won't show up anymore (obviously).
More I noticed:
- phone faster reacts after boot
- you can't switch pages by swiping in the gap between the bottom two rows (on menu, not homescreen)
SamsungApps always tells me "network not available", also I can't see any string in it's UI.

oh man, DAP??? it kinda reminds me of... 2000/2001 times and stuff!
But you're right, Hotfile is very slow generally...I paid for a premium account some months ago, and had been cursing every moment after I did that... Filesonic works for me like a charm for months now.
I also noticed:
- CPU usage in "About phone" is shown in real-time now
It was always in real time.
Is it safe to flash this one ? All the people who flashed.... are they experiencing loads of crashes ?
as other 2.0,, once get into contact.. then to get back to main screen will be difficult ... few home touch needed

Its exactingly the same as all the others. Nothing visually changes at all in the versions it just becomes more stable and less crashes and faster
Other than that nothing ever changes.... just sayin

There are crashes as before. But I was able to restore my yesterday's backup (with Apps ) and some of the stuff worked from the backup. Apps, background, internet connection settings. I tlost however my bookmarks, the homescreen settings, accounts and the ringtones...
But the biggest selling point of this fw is the SPEED. It's much faster. The browser flies compared to the KH1.

What frustrates you about an app?

So I'm working on a post for my site. It's going to be a list about things a developer does with an application that frustrates us as users. The goal is to highlight common complains from the community about practices devs use in their apps and to hopefully encourage them with feedback to improve.
This is the list I've got so far. Please feel free to chime in if you agree or disagree and ADD any things that bug you as a USER.
--Lack of a live tile: One of the biggest differences on our platforms and others is the inclusion of live tiles. If it makes sense for the application, a live tile is a must. I'm hard pressed to find a large category of apps where a live tile wouldn't make sense at some basic level.
--No fast app switching: No explanation needed, devs get with it.
--Not playing nice with Metro: You make an app for iOS or Android and now you want to port it Windows Phone as fast as possible...so fast you don't think about the design. Great apps on Windows Phone are those that capitalize on the principles of the design language.
--Have both a paid and free version of an app: Do a search for an app in the Market or App Store and you'll get two versions for a lot of popular apps: the free and paid version. There is NO reason why you would need to do that with Windows Phone. Devs have the ability to implement a 'trial' state of an application where they can do everything and more a 'free' version of an app could. Stop cluttering the Marketplace.
--Redirecting to a website: I once downloaded a sports app that had potential. I opened the app and played around. There was a pivot page that had a section for news. Clicked it...and bam. IE is opening up. Nope, no thank you. I want to use your app now your website.
These are some of the big themes that I've encountered more than I should when playing around with apps. This is not a major problem, but it's there and it really shouldn't be.
Also I'm not trying to put developers down, I know it's hard work and I myself am trying to learn as well. But we should strive for something better.
Alright, sound off with some feedback guys. Any other 'sins against users' I've missed that you encounter? I'd like to see what you think before I write the post on my site.
ALSOOOO.... How about you list some apps that contain these 'sins against users'. That way we can politely invite the developer to hear our thoughts and implement changes that benefit everyone. Happy users = $, $= happy dev.
All these are minor.. My biggest complaint is when push notification is either delayed or doesnt come at all. I've missed some important whatsapp messages cause it was delayed 10 mins.

As I agree with what you are posting, I think you missed the point on this one.
It's true that this is cluttering the marketplace, but people like to hand out a "FREE" version from a marketing persepective. There is a seperate column with "free" apps, hence it will be easier to stand out with both a free and paid app...
Also if you have a fully functional free trial (with only an add) it is still being noted as paid app, so you miss everybody who has no credit card, they will automatically overlook a paid app, even if it has a free unlimited trial (well there are always exceptions of course, but those account mostly for "high profile" apps/games).
This is the main reason, that without uploading 2 apps, there is an unfair disadvantage for the dev.
But I agree it is annoying but from a developer perspective it makes a lot of sense why people do this.

I agree. Some devs don't mention what the trial offers(time-limited or function-limited) and hence I stay away from such paid apps. Sometimes the trial is fully functional with ads. Agreed that the devs were lazy to not include it in the description, but some users are lazy too. That would be the reason for two versions of the app.
it not being available at all.
or how about it's free on android or ios, but $3 on wp7... wtf?

Yeah, I understand the marketing angle. I guess I live in some fantasy land in my head where the world is clean and organized. Hopefully with the Windows 8 Marketplace offering devs simliliar options in how they can implement trials we'll see less "free" apps because users may come expect every paid app to come with a trial.

That is something I missed, I how they determine the price difference between platforms?
Off the top of your head, do any apps come to mind where there is a big price difference in platforms? Exclude Xbox Live enabled games for a moment, the reason being I can see the inclusion of achievements, leaderboards, etc to be the cause of the price bump.
I'm in need of a map/location/gps app, that supports offline map caching . while I found couple of them on marketplace, ones that had nice design an functionality, all of them where online only and ones that had offline map caching had terrible design an absolutely no functionality. thats sad
design and functionality should be put first IMO
Inconsistent Resuming and Lack of Tombstoning
Once an app leaves the foreground you have two methods of returning to it: use the app switcher or hitting the tile on your Start screen. Going from the app switcher resumes as expected, but going from the Start screen restarts the app, even if it's already sitting in the background. Now this is probably something Microsoft has to fix, but I feel that if more apps tombstoned, then it could make things more consistent.

Yes if they would note next to the price tag of each app wheter it contains a Trial version, it is less needed for devs to release a seperate "Lite" version. However the problem is now you have to click the app first than wait until the buttons show up in order to find out wheter an app has a free trial.
This should be there on the big scroll list so a user will see at first glance wheter he/she can try the app for free. At the moment I can't blame dev's for introducing their own workarounds.
But what is more annoying to me is that if devs follow metro design and don't use the margins correctly. Hence the app looks odd in comparison to the native apps, i.e. a lot of chat apps mimick the messaging app but don't pay attention to the margins, the bubble sizes and the bubble alignments, which will make them look very unprofessional. This is sad because they did take the effort to stylize the app like Metro, but they ruined the experience because of not "understanding" the fundamentals of the design language. Which is not just typography but also clever and precise use of margins, shapes and spacings. And since there is not much chrome, every tiny offset or error stands out to a trained eye instantly.

I think going forward an ideal scenario would be a user expects to have a trial mode for any app that a dev is asking money for. It's a win-win for both consumers and developers. Check out this post from Paul Laberge explaining some of the benefits of a trial mode.
Seems like your second paragraph is echoing the statement to follow metro design language/principles and aim for higher quality control in regards to the design.
It's interesting, I feel like 5 years ago software was all about being functional with no regard to design. Now we not only demand, but expect applications to function well and look beautiful. Exciting times

Are those faults of the developer or the platform itself? I ask because I don't know a lot of the technical workings behind the push notification system. My limited knowledge tells me it might be a mix of both parties to blame.
Can anyone clarify?
apps?
For sure about Notifications part.
Push Notification can be useful "ONLY" when you have the phone right in front of your face. Because right after that, they are gone forever.
Second, Push Notification usually have a delay , about a half to 2 mins, from the actual event.
Like my friend can post a thing on my Facebook Wall, and the phone took about 2 mins to update it to the ME title. Same with all other Applications.
I used to try hacking the ROM and Registry of the Phone to reduce the delay of the Title Update. But failed so hard because Microsoft really locked it up hard.
I think most of the annoyances are captured already in the initial post but I'll also add
-That some apps are still being released without mango capability.
-Some apps are just the mobile site (for example the tagged app wtf?)

I was hoping I'd cover the most obvious complaints, but wanted to reach out and see if anything was missing. Also venting is good for us
And regarding Tagged...? Wow... I just looked at it on the web Marketplace and I won't let something that hideous touch my phone. It's just lazy and doesn't add any value to users or devs. Users get nothing out of it and as a dev what have you accomplished?
Apps like that should not pass certification. It seems draconian, but it's ok for us to demand and expect quality work.

This is (or was pre-Mango) a requirement to have your app certified. The rules say/said that a user returning to a task via the Back button is trying to complete an interupted task; a user launching the app from Start is starting a new task and shouldn't be presented with abandoned work from earlier.
I have a calculator app that maintains full state across invocations. I was worried that MS would reject the app because it preserved state even upon restarting. They did accept it, though.
Worst thing for me is wasted screen space.
A good example is the official WP7 Facebook app. Go to the "wall" screen, and you have "FACEBOOK" then "Most Recent" then "What's on your mind?" all permanently stuck at the top. Space is also wasted at both sides, meaning that only 50-60% of the screen is actually available to display your friends wall posts.
I thought the idea of Metro is to "put information first", so this is ridiculous. I have a phone with a 3.7" screen, yet the facebook app is more readable on my friends 3" non-widescreen Blackberry.

I hear you on that Facebook app. Thankfully the integration with Windows Phone makes it so that I haven't opened it in months. I check FB once a day on the browser at home before bed, but that's about it.
But I'll chalk this complaint under the 'design abuse' category.
Anyone have any other apps that violate some of our sins in the original post in this thread?
I'd like to see improvements with the sound handeling. Most games have a 'music volume' and a 'FX volume' it seems the volume % is boolean, 0% is silent, 10%-100% is full volume. I'd like to listen to my music while gaming without the Pew Pew causing my ears to bleed

[DEV] Is it possible to intercept gestures/sensors everywhere on the android OS ?

I just played for a while with a Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone, which is awesome.
A friend of mine, showed me all its "Motions" features, which i've found preety awesome, and right away this question came into my mind :
Is is possible to write an app to reproduce those motions in every phone that has the needed sensors and providers ?
For those who don't know which are the motions in play, here are some examples :
1 - Swype hand on screen to take a screenshot
2 - Face the phone down to silence call or music
3 - Put the phone on the "ear" to call the "focused" contact on the contacts list, or, call it if you have a sms of the contact opened by the time you put it in your ear
Those are some of the features that are "motion-triggered".
Is there any way to write an simple app that runs in background and "intercept" those tasks in every aplication possible, or this is only possible because of the integration between all the "Touchwizz framework" and their components ?
Thanks in advance

All right, so teorically it is possible to develop a bg service that polls for those events and handles them, ok.
But, what about the second part :
Once those events are intercepted by the bg service, is there any way i can achieve this feature : (?)
1. Service checks if the contact app is in foreground
2. If it is, service checks if there is any contact picked on the contacts app
3. If there is a "focused/picked" contact, service get's its number and starts a call to this contact
Same features should work for SMS app for example.
Is this achievable without such integration as there is on the whole "Touchwizz" framework for example ?
I mean, can my "third party" app fetch this kind of information of the contacts app for instance ?
Thanks mate

This seems to be a Stand alone app.
I am not willing to write a "Caller" app, i want to be able send those "stocks apps", signals based on the sensor events.
E.g : Once i turn the face the phone down, it hangs the call. (But this would be done by a background service, not by the "App that was selected as default, and is receiving the calls". Got it ?)
That app runs as a background service.. Use the trial version of it for free..

Smart Watch

Please Look at the attachment for the smart watch features. I will be selling this soon. This smart watch will include an app and work for IOS and ANDROID.
I need your opinion? Is there any other feature you would like included.
Any partnership (Wholesales/Retailers/Ebay Buyers) will be accepted as well. Its a really beautiful watch and has a LOT of features (see pic attached)

That is the matter of the price/performance.
If the icons you've put there represent the covered functions then it would kinda cover 90% of what's needed. I'd be using it for silent notifications (never bother anybody but me), sleep tracking, external control, anti-theft and probably some integration with Tasker. But I wouldn't pay one cent over 100$. Maybe 100 € in Europe.
I would add 1-3 programmable buttons for easy external control (music, camera, etc).
I hope we'll see this soon!

I own a galaxy watch 46 mm (not the active or the active 2) and since a couple of weeks I get an annoying message on the screen.
Every once in a while it shows 'Double tap to explore', underneath the text there is a hand with an upward pointing outstretched finger.
I have to push the home and the back buttons a few times before the actual homescreen is shown.
Up to now I haven't found how to disable this.
Some days ago I upgraded to the latest DSL1 version of the firmware but the behaviour remains the same.
I went into settings and disabled as many notifications as I could but I haven't seen something about this message.
Does anybody know what this is and how to disable it?
If you reset your watch and are about to re-link it to your phone, you can enter a menu in which you can activate the double tap. I've activated it once to see what it does. It got deactivated after a hatd reset, so that's what I would suggest.
How to hard reset your watch is shown e.g. here: https://youtu.be/-_v4t5OK2ZY

A hard reset is of course an option, the double-tap to explore must be a feature that was introduced after I bought the watch.
Can this option be found somewhere in the settings?
If possible I like to disable it without resetting, I don't like reinstalling, it is not as bad as it can be with Windows but it still is a reinstallation.

Did some digging, go to Settings, Accessibility*, Advanced Settings, Tap 3 times with two fingers*
* translated from Dutch . The Accessivility option is below the Account option.

Well, I could not wait and did a hard reset.
When starting I did not see the menu you are talking about.
I had a look at the setting you pointed at, it was already off but I still get the double tap notification
Did another hard reset.
At boot time you can go to an accessibility menu, over thee you can find Advanced settings and then the two finger triple tap.
This is something you can find later on in the settings too but it does not enable or disable the 'double tap to explore' notification.
It should be something else,

Do you use watchfacemaker?
I think the notification is one of the many bugs from the watchface manager (great features but it is buggy as hell)
Try to use any of the new watchfaces added by the team exclusively for galaxy users leave them for some seconds and then try to change them again to your desired face.
I saw they announced the gift faces in the notes of the last version. Perhaps they added this promotional intrusion.
For me, it seemed to work.
Good luck!

Well I use watchmaker (package name = slide.WatchFrenzy).
On play I can find WatchMaker Watch Faces and Watch Face -WatchMaker Premium for Android Wear OS.
I think you are talking about the second one, I have the first one.
Anyway I'll try another one of the Samsung watchfaces and see if the problem disappears, I will ask the creator of the app if this message comes from his app,
I include a printscreen from the app I'm using,

Please note that there is Android app and Watch app. I think the error is being caused by the watch app and has got nothing to do with the Android app.
Android app has not updated for a while (so no issues in play store), but Watch app received update a few days ago 5.7.8 (so you have to check Galaxy Store, watch section).
(regarding watch app - be sure you are using new version (https://galaxystore.samsung.com/det...session_id=W_66c489edab40112abcb925da3c25c1ae) not legacy (https://galaxystore.samsung.com/geardetail/slide.watchFrenzy).

So far I did not change watchface or contact the developer.
But I installed the latest version of Galaxy Wear 5.7.9 and the last few days I do not get that reminder anymore.
Wait and see if I have to take action.
