RF performance? - T-Mobile LG G3

I currently have a Nexus 5 and after my wife recently got an S6, I realized how bad the cell reception is. If we go into our local supermarket I get no service while the S6 maintains a usable HSPA signal throughout store.
I want to buy one but I don't want to deal with same issues as N5. Apparently G4 has amazing reception but I like the G3s compactness a little better. What is the experience like on G3 when in fringe reception areas?

Reception

How is the reception on 3G/4G compared to other AT&T Phones? People on the Verizon forum are complaining about poor reception.
I believe my sgs2 skyrocket had better reception... Need to test a bit more though.

I get as good of a signal, if not better then my galaxy note. Only HSDPA+ though as at&t is the only NON lte or equivalent carrier here in Hell Paso Tx

My signal is ok but it always shows as yellow in battery screen. Very rarely ts green as One X was.
Reception has been great for me so far. I don't notice it being any different than my Atrix, which had fantastic reception.

Good to hear that the reception seems to be as good as the Atrix. IMO, Motorolas have the best Antennae. Must be some something specific to the radios for the Verizon network that causes the S3 to be seemingly having reception problem. Galaxy Nexus on Verizon was definitely subpar when it came to radio reception whereas the International GSM Nexus version seemed fine.

It could be down to the phone, but I say its AT&T. I live in London, but when I was in Los Angeles a few weeks back, the house I was staying in Culvery City would get no coverage or it would come and go and would be on one bar of voice and not data before or sometimes edge, my aunt who lives in LA who I was staying with has an iPhone and she had the same problem. It wasn't until you went up the street I would get 2 - 3 bars of HSPA+ coverage. I think AT&T coverage nationwide is spotty, here in the UK its different we have 98% coverage, I have 4-5 bars of HSPA+ whereever I go. We don't have the big LTE 4G coverage here in the UK though on any of the networks. Couldnt of used T-Mobile as the frequencies they use for 3G aren't supported my International aka UK Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300, would only get voice and no data/edge data. Having AT&T go phone HSPA+ coverage was great and made my Holiday a lot easier and more enjoyable, however I have to say in Vegas the coverage was a lot better.

Anyone else considering switching to a different phone?

hi guys,
so i have an S3 and i LOVE it to death. i am running Task AOKP rom which makes the phone 100000 times better but even on stock TW, the phone was great. however, what i am noticing (and from doing some reading a lot of other people notice as well) is that the reception of the phone is really lacking. over the past few days, i have been doing some experimenting with my S3 and a few other phones that i have access to. almost in every single situation, the S3 reception was drastically worse than the other phones. here are a few examples:
1) yesterday me and the wife went to a friend's wedding. when we got there, i had zero reception (x on the reception bars) while my wife's iphone had 3 bars (both ATT).
2) at work, i always have 1-2 bars and not that great reception while my coworker with an HTC phone on ATT has full service.
3) at my house, i have a few areas that the phone just struggles to get even a single bar and both my wife's iphone as well as all my previous phones (galaxy s2, iphone 4, blackberry etc..) never had that issue.
this is my second S3 unit and the previous one was not that great reception wise as well. i tried every kernel and rom you can imagine and even reverted back to stock a few times just to make sure its not rom related.
at this point, i am actually considering selling the S3 and going with an HTC One X even though i prefer everything about the S3.
have you tried different modems...just a sugestion.....some people get better reception when they flash different modems

yep, tried every single one of the modems that has been released so far. at first i was sure that it is just my phone or my area but a google search shows that this is pretty known issue with the S3 which is not giving me too much hope. like i said, i LOVE the phone and love its features but this one is starting to get me down.
Are you using a protective case? I've read where some cases cause reception issues.
I am quite sure that the radio in the sgs3 is not as strong as many other phones I've had. Wifi and mobile connection are much weaker compared to other devices. I am also sure that its the hardware as no matter what modem or rom I'm running its low signal in areas where friends on the same carrier with different devices are fine. It's normally not a big deal in areas with a strong signal but in areas with a weaker signal its very noticeable when others with different hardware have a signal still.

yep, that's what most posts are saying in random forums. if it is a hardware issue, no modem in the world will make it better. i also agree that it is not a big deal in areas with strong signal but yesterday i had zero service which meant no incoming or outgoing calls for 3-4 hours while my wife had no issues with her iPhone (made me look really bad especially after all the **** i give her about owning an iPhone )
Its weird because in places other people dont have reception (they have iphones and other android phones), such as elevators, basements, in sky scrapers, i have reception and they don't. Maybe the network i'm running on (rogers) is well implanted in the city but i honestly have not noticed any worse reception in my GS3 compared to my other phones like the GS2 or iPhone 4
I switched from an iPhone 4 and I have actually got better reception and call quality with my S3 than I ever did with my iPhone. I am on ATT too.
Have you tried disabling LTE to see if you can force it to HSPA?
also have you tried a new sim just for good measure?
I haven't had much issues with respects to service when comparing it to my Nokia Lumia 900 and iPhone 4

I get better reception that my old iPhone 4 and my infuse... areas where I use to drop calls don't anymore. Example: an area up north where I go shoot firearms, I would lose service about 1 mile before heading up the mountain road, now, I have service the entire time except for about a mile up when I go between a sub station and a dam, but once I pass it, I'm good to go. Many parts of i5 I would drop service, now there is only 1 part where service gets spotty and I may drop the call. Several other places that I learned drop calls no longer do for me since getting the s3... not sure why our experiences are different, maybe you had bad luck and received 2 defective devices. I'm in California btw, splitting my time between sf bay area, Sacramento and Redding.

Yeah I can't wait to ditch my S3, looking to get a S4 when it comes out.

I get great reception as far as I can tell. At my friend's house, his iPhone gets awful, call-droppingly bad reception and I have no issues. Both AT&T.
*#*#4636#*#*
put that in your dialpad and than go to phone options and btu it to gsm/lte preffered. if you were like me the setting should be on wcdma originally in which case i had horrible reception like you
I notice no issues with stock.

I'm pretty annoyed by the lack of OEM accessories that we were promised.
Also annoyed that JB hasn't been officially released yet by the four major USA carriers.
But I'll be darned if there is anything better to switch to.
Phone OR manufacturer. We complain a lot, but Samsung and the Galaxy series have always been the Android leaders.
I get great reception. Full 4g lte coverage in my area. S3 is a great device. No regrets. Best phone out there by far.
I am getting signal and "0" call drops when in lift too and in car parking lots... where all my previous phones used to drop signal crazy!!!
I get great reception. ATT, Miami. My old iPhone's couldn't compete.

Verizon Gnex signal strength vs others

I have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus and am looking for an upgrade. I love my Gnex but my phone has a terrible signal just about everywhere, but it is especially bad at my house . I went down to my local corporate VZW store to check out some phones today.
I compared every phone side by side with my Gnex, both showing the signal strength in dbm and asu rather than relying in bars. To my surprise every phone was within 4-5dbm of the Gnex. I looked at the LG G2, Moto X, Note 2 and the Droid Maxx. Surprisingly, the G2 consistently had a worse signal than my Gnex when comparing dbm....
My main upgrade motivation was better signal strength... my trip to the store popped my upgrade bubble.

Your store must have some terrible reception. My HTC One had much better reception and any motorola phone did as well. As per LG their radios seem weak as well...

G4 vs G3 Reception

Can anyone who purchased the G4 coming from the G3 comment on how the phones reception is.. Is it better with calls and LTE? Thanks!
Never had issues with eithet
each phone of the same type can vary with signal. my wife and i both had a g3, sitting next to each other doing speed test. hers ways always faster by several Mbps, but mine would show a tad more on the signal strength.
now i have the g4, but have yet to compare, but signal seems to be pretty close to what the g3 was in the same areas.
I think they are very comparable. I don't have any scientific data, but I don't notice that I get LTE or better service in areas with either the G3 or G4, and speed tests are the same on both.
Idk about the g3, but compared to my s6, this phone's reception sucks. 2 bars with s6, 0.5 bars with the g4.

I would say similar, but I find the G4 as a bit better service while I'm in the usual spots I was with my G3

That's funny, I live in CA and I can from S6 edge. I loved that phone, I just prefer a larger screen, and my daughter wanted my edge so I got my g4. My reception is exceptionally better, and my Internet is so much quicker. I used to have to restart my edge a lot, it would almost come to a halt.
I thought since the chip in this was so much weaker, I'd notice it. It's been the opposite. Better. In everyway

coming from a country with very unstable and fluctuative signal reception, i can say that G4 is ways better than G3 in terms of signal reception.
i got more reception in places where i never had reception back when i still got my G3

what weaker chip? the antenna chip is a separate component with the CPU. and it's not sooo much weaker!
Android authority did an interesting comparison between the G4,S6 and P8:

Anyone come from the regular S6? Looking to see if reception improved

I'm posting this in general because it seems like the S6 throughout all carriers had reception/antenna issues where they weren't getting good signal strength. For example I came from the S5 and there are areas that I never had issues with that became iffy with the s6. Just curious to see if the edge+ fixed or improved
It did not improve. I have issues where the Nexus 6 and iPhone 6 had no issues at all. I hope this can be solved with software improvements...
Sent fra min SM-G928F via Tapatalk
I'm on T-Mobile, and the Edge+ gives me the best reception I've ever had (I've had the Nexus 4, HTC One, HTC M8, S5, S6, Note 5, etc)
I don't have the S6 Edge+ but some buyers from Spain say it still has the same issues.
Un saludo ?
Still rubbish on mine ,wifi worse also ,and battery life half what i get on my S6,might just stick with the S6
upgraded from the regular edge. Had the plus for a week now.
I definitely see improvement not only in reception but across the board.
Im on Sprints network and now get great LTE reception inside my home.
No dropped calls yet. Better battery life. (FYI I upgraded from the regular edge due to my Fast Charge no longer working. Sprint deterimed it was a hardware defect as it was taking over 5 hours to get a full charge.)
Phone is also snappy. No lag compared to the excessive lag i experienced on the regular edge. Better camera performance too
Phone reception on this is considerably better than on my Note 3
I have the galaxy s6 edge + sm-G928G from Claro PR and the signal is terrible I call customer service and they told me to put the signal on 3 G only
I moved from Sony Xperia Z3 and signal seems to be almost exactly the same so that's good and I'm very happy especially after problems with signal on Note 4.
I moved from the LG G4 and signal is better on my Edge+.
I moved from xperia z3
Improvement
1-Signal 2-screen and camera 3-sound and volume
Worse
1- touch wise 2- no sd card 3- music app is s,,t 4- battery life
I know someone who uses S6 Edge +, and she has no problem with the reception/antenna issue.
Thx
Sent from my SM-G928C using Tapatalk
I don't have any problems. I came from a note 4 however and my reception was noticeably weaker.
With the Note 4, I had no reception at work(only by the windows), the S6+ holds onto a bar, sometimes two, where my note 4 wouldn't have any. And en route to work, it doesn't drop service completely where the Note 4 would. Holds onto a bar or two.
I should mention I'm on ATT, but I'm using an unlocked Edge+ from t-mobile now
Sent from my SM-G928T using Tapatalk
For me it's same as my s6. G4 had better reception though
