Wont quick charge/fast charge not working - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Phone is not rooted or anything, fast charging just stopped working out of nowhere no idea how to fix it so i tried resetting phone, and that didn't work either i have no idea whats wrong?
I have the 4gb model and using the charging that came with it along with other qualcom quick charge chargers and none of them work

Not to point out the obvious, but quick charge only works for a certain battery percentage. It is 0% to 50%, I think? After that it reverts to normal charging.

Same problem
I have the same problem on my Asus Zenfone 2 (2GB version). It used to quick charge perfectly fine with a Samsung adaptive charger but now it's only charging normally (5V 1.1A). I tried different cables with no joy.
I bought a USB device that connects between the charger and the USB cable to check the voltages on D+ and D-. Apparently the phone is asking for 12V instead 9V (0.66V on both D+ and D- instead 3.3V on D+ and 0.66V on D-).
I can only guess this is a software issue from an update?
I ordered an external battery pack from Aukey that offers Quick Charge 2.0. This one can offer 12V too. If that works I'll come back with an update.

No, my phone will show quick charge at any battery percentage. It doesn't come out of quick charge until fully charged.

Post a photo of your screen showing that you're still on quick charge after 70-80%?
I know it stops at a certain point. When I check my phone after a 45 minutes or so of charging when its nearly full, I don't see the quick charge icon anymore nor does it say "Quick Charging", only "Charging".

Well, obviously I don't know what I"m talking about. I thought the "+" in the battery indicator meant it was on quick charge.
When plugged into my quick charger (I have two different ones by different manufacturers) it always shows the "+" in the battery indicator.
I don't know how to tell it's in quick charge mode except by the message on the lock screen. And you are right, it goes from "quick charging" to "charging" about the power level you indicated. Hadn't really noticed before. Now I'm a little smarter

I also have the + sign from 1% to 99% using original charger.
It does get less hot after 70% im sure quick charge slow down or off at this point

same here..

Same here - sometimes the quick charges works (from 0%-80%), sometimes it stops at 20% and I notice too late the phone has not been fully charged All this with the Asus original quick charger ...
Normal charging works always, not a single problem ..
I guess this is a software issue ...

not really, my zenfone 2 used to fast charge even at 82% and charge to 100% after 10 mins, but now it's at 49% and says fast charging but the completion time shows 3 hours until full. I dunno why

I've been having similar issues in recent months, but I'm thinking the USB cable may be worn out - usually when it shows it is charging in regular mode, if I unplug the cable and put back in the + appears. Also a couple of times it has claimed I am using an unsupported charger (it is the same ASUS fast charger out of box..), which is also resolved by unplugging and replugging things.
However if the phone won't fast charge, won't detect OTG drives and PC can't detect the phone then a part of the chipset is probably toast.

[Q] GSM Galaxy Nexus not charging

Hi Guys,
Before I start, I have read many threads (I think all) relating to this problem and I have googled, googled and googled.
My Device:
GSM Galaxy Nexus
Problem:
It won't charge. No matter if turned on or off. The battery stays always at 0% and when taking a look at *#*#4636#*#* it says "charging".
What I have tried:
- Bought three different batteries.
- Tried two different cables, incl. the OEM one.
- Tried two different wall chargers.
- Replaced the Micro USB port.
- Wiped, reset etc. the phone.
- Tried different ROMs and Kernels. (Yes, I am desperate).
Any advice what the problem might be?
Thanks in advance!
could be the pins not making proper contract with the battery

Thanks, crixley.
I will check that or do you have any advice how I could make sure that the battery is connected?

take look at any of the pins to see if they appear bent.

They look all the same. Not bent, not damaged, not dirty.
hmmm that is really all I can think of..
The fact that it says charging leads me to believe it isn't the port (like most people experience)

I have plugged my phone into my computer. It says "not charging" now. This message appears after a few minutes when I turn it on. Same happens when I plug it into the wall.
Now it's getting really strange. I didn't observe this behavior before.
Before I changed the Micro USB port, the message was >always< "not charging".
Now, after the change, it says for 2 minutes "charging" and then it changes to "not charging".
Did you replace the whole USB board as well, or just the port? It sounds like the USB board is bad.

Hi lowandbehold,
No, I replaced the whole board if we mean the same. I can't post links at this time because I am a new member of XDA, but you can search for "Dock Connector Charging Port with Flex Cable For Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250" on eBay.
UPDATE: Plugged it back into the wall. It says "charging AC" now and does NOT change to "not charging". Funnily enough, the voltage keeps dropping. From 2040 mV to 1961 mV in two minutes.
i'd say replace the device.
Unfortunately I'm having the exact same problem. I just replaced charging port literally just now and it still won't charge. It says "Charging" but it's not charging. In the Settings it says discharging.
Could it be the battery? I'm thinking of buying a new one and seeing if that works.

Has anyone found a solution to this yet? with mine it charged fine in the beginning, and then it would only charge to about 86%, and then 84%...then 80%...currently it will only charge to 14%. I can leave it plugged in for 48 hours and it says it is charging but will not go past 14%. it takes a few hours for it to charge from 0% to 14%, but then dies within 30 minutes of EXTREMELY LIGHT use.
I've tried two different batteries which both yield the same results. I have en external battery charger and can charge the battery to full (according to the light on the charger) and place it in the phone and the phone will tell me it is at 14% or 8% or something like that (which makes me believe it has nothing to do with the usb port).
I have explored everything I could think of on the software side. The problem started on Ice Cream Sandwhich, it didn't stop when it was updated to Jelly Bean, I recently rooted it and have tried a few different roms including stock roms and CM10. I tried battery calibration apps.
So far nothing has made a difference. Any Ideas?
Nope no solution has been found. I'm just selling the device (and telling them the problem, so far I'm selling it for $275 and people want it) and I'm going to buy an SIII or a One X
well, this really sucks...it seems that a few unlucky people (like me) have this charing issue...
I too changed my USB flex cable thinking that this was the cause, but nothing changed
the battery icon says charging, but the system says discharging
what a major p*** off, cuz I'm fed up of changing batteries all the time, I have 5 batteries
I hope that someone will be able to figure this one out, cuz its a real brain buster
Any update on this? My phone bought in July is also just started giving this problem. When it is on it simply will not charge. All these months I was using another charger with no issues. I have tried the following:
1. Using the stock charger
2. Bending upwards the male connector in the USB socket.
3. Removing the battery overnight
Nothing seems to work. When off, the phone seems to charge somewhat and charging icon comes on. But charging when off for about 5 hours resulted in battery showing about 50% (from 13%) but it drains very quickly. Sometimes when charging for 30 minutes (when off) and switching it on it shows 100% battery, but then still discharges very quickly. Sometimes it shows very low battery.
Also my notification LED is glowing red since about a month, even when phone is switched off. If I remove the battery and connect the charger, the LED starts glowing red - blinking, so it seems the USB port is providing power as sometimes the battery does show 50% and seems to last a bit from there.
What are my options here? I am on the latest JB OTA update which came around 14/15 Nov. In India, I will get no service from Samsung for the Nexus.
I am going to try a factory reset first and then next see if I can get another battery. And maybe I should return / cancel the Nexus 4 I ordered?
Maybe try wiping battery stats in recovery? I was having similar issues today with "not charging". I was plugged in to the wall with nothing, so I plugged into the computer... ADB enabled and device was connected as a media device. I booted recovery and wiped dalvick and battery stats, rebooted and now it is charging via usb and AC. Don't know what happened, but it worked for me. Hope it helps!
Thanks for the response. Well, I just tried draining out the battery (it took almost 2 days lol) till it would show shutdown warning soon after booting up and then removed the battery and held down the power button. I then charged it in 'off' mode for a few hours, I think overnight. I used the actual Nexus charger instead of the generic one I was using all this while. When I turned it on, there was about 40% charge showing.
There was another JB update which I managed to complete (leaving it on the charger). The phone seemed to work fine, but did not show a charging state, but suddenly the next day on its own when I just plugged in the charger, it showed the 'bolt' charging icon and since then it has been working perfectly.
Simply no clue as to how and why it started working fine. Probably the previous 14 Nov update had some bug which was resolved in the latest update or the latest update reset the battery stats or whatever.
I am more worried about my upcoming Nexus 4 which has a non-removable battery as to what I would do if something like this happens.

I can 100% guarantee you that wiping battery stats had nothing to do with it.

My Note 2 doesn't charge all

When I charge my mobile phone in the nights, it doesn't charge all. Sometimes it charges until 70 or 43...(random numbers) and it stops charging although led is red and it says that's it's doing.
I cleaned the USB port with a pin and with contact cleaner and it didn't disappear. Thank you.
Some idea?
Sorry my english hehe
check charger cable , some arent good , it may drain battery not chargin it
Get the galaxy charging current app and it will tell you how much charge is going into your phone. It opened my eyes to why my phone was taking no charge.

I installed that app and where it puts Now it always says 1698 but Maximum is from 100 to 1700, different values when I refresh.
That's bad?
Yea, that's weird. Try charging from USB cable connected to your PC or try with another charger.

[Q] Note 2 had a fall, does not charge though OTG works

Hey,
Yesterday accidentally I dropped by Note 2 from some 3 feet, with UAG Case in Place. It didn't had any issues when I started using it, but when my battery drained and I inserted it to socket found that the charging no more works
Diagnostics
Wall, USB Wire - Swapped and checked. Works. No issues
Battery - Swapped and checked. Works. No issues
USB OTG - Works both in Recovery and Android
USB Charging - Doesnt works on Wall and PC doesn't even recognizes\ the phone
As of now, I am using a cheap Chinese wall charger to charge my battery which takes a day to charge some 30%. Can someone say what will be faulty? Is it the USB Charging port?
I tried it charging in Recovery too, It didn't seem to work. But when I drain the battery completely and take it out and let it sit idle for five minutes and plug it again, the white big battery icon appears and boots the phone and then when it enters into droid, say Critical Battery, no charging occurs and the phone shuts down. This cycle repeats every time if I remove the battery and plug it again, if i leave the usb charger on wall connected to the phone further, nothing happens after that per se no clue of charging.

You probably damaged the charging board. They are about $7 on eBay and take about 10 minutes to swap out.
@ Coug76 I have a rev1.0 rd89 rd53 kh 18 printed on the board. Should I buy a board with Rev 0.7 and t889 or any t889 board?

Charging problem

Start from yesterday, my phone wont charge with the stock charger it told me to use a compatible charger. I have tried 3 differet USB cable but none of them work. Also ihave the quick charger on my car, it was working fine before, but now it will Not show the plus sign next to the charging icon and the battery % drops even with the charger pluged in. Any one knows what's happening?

I have exactly the same Problem! I can only charge the phone, if the lipo is fully discharged! And only the ASUS Qick charger works for me.
I also monitored, that the USB at the phone is always On, also, if the phone is powered off. Do that the phone, itself dischares..
Have anybody an solution?
My phone doesn't charge with any quick chaegers… only work woth normal chargers

I've occasionally had this problem---a battery icon with a "!" in it appears and says to use a compatible charger. This mostly happens for me with the stock charger. I've found the most likely thing to fix it is unplugging the charger from the wall for 20-30 seconds to let the capacitors fully discharge, and then plug it in again.
Sometimes it has been due to the charger partially unplugged from the wall, or the usb cable partially unplugged at one end.
I hope this helps, as the first few times it happened to me I was worried the usb port in the phone might be going bad.
I have problem with both original and non original chargers occasionally. The trick for me is to unplug the cable and re plug. Problem solved.
The replug Fix the (!) Symbol.
My phone was now fully charged. After an full discharge of the LiPo. Now it has 85% . and then i plug in the charging cable nothing happens. Nö recharge. So i must wait that the phone is fully discharged, and then i can charge it aging. I think On my phone is the charging controller damaged.

USB charging does not work

I've recently bought a Nexus 5X and a USB Type-C to USB Type-A adapter, so that I can charge my phone off a desktop PC. It worked fine until I flashed Cataclysm (Jan 6 build) and latest ElementalX kernel (1.11).
My phone gets recognized by my PC, drivers are installed, charging icon appears and notification shows that my phone is in charging mode, however it does not charge?
Any ideas what's not right? If more information is needed - let me know, I'll add it.
How long are you leaving it before checking to see if its increasing in battery capacity? It will charge very slowly over USB, so if you are using it at the same time, you will probably find that your losing percentage instead of gaining.

I just plug it and leave it for a good hour or so meanwhile I mind my own business.
What I noticed is, that once I plug it in, I see a tiny message at the bottom of my login screen, which tells Charging rapidly, but after a couple of seconds it just disappears.

You have a defective cable if it tells you its charging rapidly.
I suggest you throw it away before it fries you phone or atleast checkit with the app checkr from the play store.
Google "usb c issues" to see whats going on.
Either buy a cable from google or don't buy cheap and check with the suggested app.
Follow this dude for a known list of bad/good cables
