Possibility of Custom ROMs - Sony Xperia M5

Discuss about the possibility of this phone having custom ROMs!
What I think is that it should be possible for custom kernels, custom ROMs requires Mediatek frameworks and hardware which requires Mediatek's source code.
I've emailed in to Sony and Mediatek regarding this issue (I'm pretty sure they might just ignore, but yea without trying it will never happen)

any news about custom roms ?

Any hope for custom roms? :/

A lot of stuff has released on Z5 that I have a hinch some might be compatible but we have no recovery to try.
I guess not any/enough devs have an M5 unfortunately
So no good news for the nearcoming future.

It was like this with Xperia Arc it was Qualcomm processor and still passed more than a half year till the recovery came and then later the roms.It will come out but we need to wait with mediatek smartphones it's harder but it doesn't mean it's not going to happen. Even if it doesn't happen it's still good as it is.we have root xposed what do we need more.I understand that a lot of people like customizing i do to but hey it's not the end of the world.

Unfortunately the m5 isn't that popular I doubt there'll be anything other than modified stock and that's only if Someone has one to release recovery+mods for. The m2 was and still is a popular device but custom roms barley exist for it there isn't even a fully working mm rom for it m5 will be sonys next t3 I think

Sony released kernel sources for m5?

M5 was re called in the UK replaced with the Z5

[Q] Porting Sony ICS from other devices.

Guys:
After the worst news from Sony (ever) (you know what i'm talking about) there are some developers trying to port ICS from other devices "for all of us", bot i'm very disapointed because this ported roms are a flasheable zip and a custom kernel (as ever), that means: this roms works only on unlocked bootloaders not for all of us, because there are "a few ones" that won't can try the last delicious dessert from google.
WHY NOT PORT A PROPERLY .FTF FOR FLASH WHITH FLASHTOOL? A LOT OF US (FROM THE "FEW ONES") WON'T GET STOCKED ON GINGERBREAD!!
I know there are some developers who can do that, or i hope, i'll cross my fingers... :'(
dont get your hopes up. If you want ics you have to unlock your bootloader
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk 2
Until now we don't have sources from Sony that's why we need to use custom kernels. So be patience. Devs are working very hard these days, they are busying fixing bugs and trying their best to make the rom as daily driver.

stock rom or stock based rom??

hello guys .. after repeatedly using the "cyanogenmod rom" decided to return to the stock sony .. now I was using the "ultra existenz" and it came the "existenz black" that caught my attention but the truth is that they will have about 3 things to enhance cell or the OS of sony, it's no big deal and therefore miss the updates just for that ... no, I'm not sure the custom rom provide benefits that exceed the stock. what do you say?

4.4 has still time to come u can use stock based roms....benefits the works much better with different governors n frequencies than stock,u hav a recovery specially designed for a custom rom
I think this people make a good job, but the stock rom of my xperia ZL get 22180 with the new update on Antutu, and all of custom roms maximum 20500. I think that mean tha the stock rom is better because is more more optimized.

Regarding custom rooms like CM, paranoid android, Omni rom, etc

it's a very know fact that maximum of the devices from Indian brands never have access to these well known rooms while they have good specifications. Why is it so?
yes Roms from other devices are ported to the Indian brand mobiles but it doesn't match my expectations.
If these senior respected developers can somehow show some love to Indian brand mobiles, it would be great.
It's my personal thinking. Yours can differ.

I don't see someone helping us in the near future..
I doubt there would be custom ROMS..

see..
what i have understood is.. basically custom roms are developed for whom, whose official roms are pathetic and have loads of bloatwares.
indian brands do not take load to customize the rom and barely put few bloatwares resulting low cost mobile fones.
these are stock androids are i feel are very stable wrt performance. :good:
we only have option to play with launchers :fingers-crossed:

Yes I agree. It also provide performance improvement options. Optimization on various things and near possibility to do any things. Problem is we need some sources based on CM or PA to start with MTK devices. Hopes one day will have it. Then we will start it.

Mtk devices are in market from so long and still nothing happened.... Still waiting..
The main problem!
CM, Paranoid, AOKP, AOSP are some great ROM's indeed! However, I believe Mediatek does not release it's kernel source, in other words, It's kernels are 'Closed Source'. Cyanogenmod requires a custom kernel to be built and compiled, for that, complete kernel source is needed. A few leaked sources for MT6589 made first CM possible. Until MTK changes it's mind, its very much impossible to see all those quality ROM's for our handsets. I also think that there is a petition on change.org, requesting Mediatek to make everything open source. You can sign it, I have signed it as well.

Can you give me the link to that petition as I am unable to find it?

If that's true, then it's a great news...

Just got a ZL - Recommended mods?

Hi there,
Just got me a second-hand Xperia ZL, first personal Android device in a while, have been handling Android devices for work so am not afraid of rooting, flashing custom kernels, etc.
Been doing a little bit of recon on my end and was a little overwhelmed at the amount of development this device has (which is a good thing!). Am going to try to unlock my bootloader later today, and was wondering what the recommended ROMs and mods are out there?
Thanks!

I recommend Dirty Unicorn.. It's a custom rom that based on omnirom.. It has a LOT of customization and tweaks... Also, if you want cm based, i recommend Carbon...
I'm using Dirty Unicorn right now because it has a lot of tweaks and customization... Cheers! :good::laugh:
Dirty Unicorn looks good, might try that. Do any of the KitKat-based ROMs have the battery drain issues I've been hearing from the official KK releases?
If your phone is a carrier phone you won't be able to unlock your bootloader.
I suggest stock + xposed, and nova Launcher.
Hi,
My phone is an unlocked unit and I was able to get the bootloader unlocked.
Went with Carbon since I didn't really like the customizations on Dirty Unicorns. Once the official 4.4.4 stock ROM releases I might try that out as well
I suggest you de-odex, install superSU mod and try some new Z3 apps on the Cross-device development section

[Q&A] Custom kernel for 4.4.2 KITKAT?

Nobody has the guts to develop a new kernel for the latest firmware, 4.4.2 KitKat?!! This phone needs a stable kernel to achieve its potential. If you are working at something, please post here your work and are a few people happy to help with testing. Come on, guys, make a better kernel!

Please, tell me where did you saw the kernel source code for Android 4.4.2 because I want to download ...
I didn't... But I know a guy (Franco) that a few years ago made a kernel for LG Optimus One without the source. The best kernel I ever installed! And that little LG O1 run better then that a lot of smartphones today.

Hi, yes you're right, you can make a kernel without it's source, but its nearly impossible on a device with so many closed-source-drivers usw. . Also you need to know very much about the way our phone works, many details usw.
I would simply say, noone can Reverse Engineer the P6-Kernel, and those who can will not do this for a decive with such a little community
EDIT:
The only possibility to create a working kernel would to try porting a kernel from the P7-Sources
But anyone ask nicelly for that source code?
