Network Issue! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I Loose network signal anytime i switch to 2g/gsm only
I have tried reboots, resets, tried different roms, all other sim cards have this issue when i use them on my phone, im on the latest radio too. Dont know what to do now..
Any help would be appreciated.

The T989 might be incompatible with the 2G bands, are you using it in the U.S.?

Dont think so, it used to work before, then after some time i would have to turn off the data or reboot before i could switch, and now it just stopped working!
Not in the US tho

Possible fixes for this is flashing the latest radio, I believe it's UVMC6. Works fine with my phone (I live in Mexico and 2G works fine)
EDIT: Sorry, I realize that you have the latest radio, my bad
I remember I used to have this issue too, what fixed it for me is choosing manually my network operator, available in the phone network settings. It was either choosing manually or automatically, I can't recall which one I chose, but it fixed the problem. I now have it in automatic and it works and from time to time when I travel to the US close to the border, my phone cannot decide if it wants to go with T-Mobile or my network (Movistar) so I change it to manual and select Movistar and works just fine, so maybe all you need to do is change from Automatic to Manual, or vice-versa. Hope that can help

Hey,
I tried choosing manually, it did say it was registered on network, but that's it, signal bar remained empty and it still said emergency calls only. At times the signal bar fills up, but saids mobile network unavailable when I try to make a call.
Appreciate your assistance tho

I managed to make a log of when I switch to 2g, If that would be helpful

Wish I could help, but I don't know what to do anymore. Why don't you just stick to 3G? There are some places I can't use 2G so I switch to 3G, I just deactivate data when I'm not using it. I sometimes lose 2G signal too, but that's mainly because I am inside a building with thick walls or I simply don't get 2G signal, happens from time to time on certain places, like my old work place for example. I would either get low signal or no signal at all.
I wish I could help, but even I don't know what to do. Best of luck to you

No Signal !

: Hi guys, I have been having this issue with my dash, most of the time its saying "searching" and I cannot get any signal, I have flashed different ROMS and none of them seem to be solving the problem, sometimes it switches to "phone off" by itself, and then it continues between 2 bars of signal and "searching" and I know its not the service because when I switch to my RAZR it works just fine, any suggestions please?

This may or may not help, but to eliminate all variables I would suggest trying a new sim card just for kicks. I know that it works in your RAZR, but the smart phones are a little touchier with older version sims; especially if there are any divits, scratches, or obviously any build up on them. The latest TMO Series 3 sims look like a globe (the gold contact area).
I can't tell from your sig what country you are in or what provider you have, but if you are with TMO US they will swap it out for free at any corporate store; at least ours does. Besides it never hurts to have the newest version anyways.
also if you're on tmo, you can check on their site the coverage area, and see if you're on a bad part of their network.

Can't turn Desire on from standby

Hey.
I have a big problem with my desire. The phone is fully working, but when it goes into standby, and I try to turn it on using the "power button" at the top, the keys light up, but nothing comes on the screen It just doesn't turn on again.
Any ideas? Thanks!
In the general section on the desire forum there is a topic related to defective proximity sensor. i,m a new forum-user so i can't make a link yet
Thanks for the help so far, but couldn't find anything that solved my problem :/ Have to restart the phone every time it goes into standby
Like many others, I am also experiencing this standby-of-death (SOD) problem: the lights in the buttons under the screen turn on, but the screen itself stays black. I have found out that it has to do with switching from 3G to 2G networks: the problem occurs after I have been at places where there is no 3G signal, but only 2G. For example, after a car trip or when going into the basement.
A workaround for this problem, is to type the code *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer. You will then end up in a hidden menu. By choosing "Phone information" (first item) and then scrolling down in the next screen, you can change the "Preferred network type". By default, it was set to "WCDMA preferred" on my phone. After I changed this setting to "WCDMA only" (so, 3G only), I have not seen the SOD issue anymore (for 4 weeks now, before it happened almost daily).
A disadvantage of this workaround is that the phone will never use 2G anymore. So, when you are at a place where there is no 3G signal, you will be disconnected (i.e. you cannot receive phone calls). As an alternative, I have now reverted the setting to the original value ("WCDMA preferred") and I have installed an older radio image (version 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2), which is considered to be more stable by many people. I'll test and see whether the problem reoccurs. If the problem stays away, it is apparently a software (radio image) issue. If not, it must be a hardware issue.
Anyway, if anyone has additional information about the root cause of this standby issue, please let me know!

OMG I love you!
Seriously this has been doing my head in for weeks! I have posted a couple of times in this forum. First time, constantly remvoing and replacing the battery left me with a bricked phone. HTC revived it under warranty but after a week I got sick of Sense (and the poor battery life) and tried rooting again (tried Redux and CM7) but the problem came back. Makes sense because it works fine around Bristol (loads of 3G) but constantly SODs in Bournemouth (flicks between 2G and 3G at my desk). Also, just had data off for a few hours and didn't get SOD once.
I am not up on the lingo yet as I am fairly new to rooting but running Baseband version 32.49.00.32H_5.11.05.27. Is this the radio?
Please keep me posted on the older radio version. Shouldn't need a long test period, just need to go from a known 3G area to a known 2G area while locked.

Yes it is the radio.
I have got GingerVillain (Based on CM) and I use the Power Control widget to switch between 2G and 3G. You can customise the widget (just add it to a screen) to get this feature.
I haven't got any 3G around my house so I don't need to activate it all the time .
Yeah Redux has a similar thing so I will use that until a proper solution is found.
Small update: enabling 2G only didn't fix the issue (I think 3G only is okay) so perhaps the issue is with 2G rather than switching between the two.
Instead I am using an app called "3G Data Only!" so that 2G can still be used for calls but not data, working great so far.
I have tied the latest Radio (32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23) and the problem does not go away.
How come this problem doesn't occur to (many) others? Could it be related to your network provider? Maybe you could change the SIM with another, from another network, and see what happens. Also, you could make use of the phone warranty - if it's still covered by it.

On o2 (in UK) right now, will try out another sim later. As for warranty, never had any issues on non-root Froyo Sense so can't do anything.

Try to change the network, say, from O2 to 3 or Vodafone. If your Desire is branded, there is a free way to unlock it - just look for Desire SIM-Unlock utility in the forum, by sieempi

Great, I'll try this application! Would be very nice if that fixes the problem without disabling 2G phone calls. I never use 2G for data (too slow anyway), but I would like to be able to still make phone calls when out of range of 3G cells.

It might be, I don't know. I'm using a Telfort SIM, connected via the KPN network (Netherlands).
3G data only works a treat for that, you can make calls.
Found with the old radio that it is a lot more stable than the new radio but not 100% perfect. Where I work I only have 2G and it would SOD all the time but now it doesn't. However on a journey I make with intermittent 2G/3G I did get a SOD.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
3G Data Only doesn't work well enough. The SOD issue does occur less frequently, but the phone still hangs sporadically. So, if have disabled 2G completely again.
You should try Insertcoin. I haven't had this issue since I started using IC v32 a2sd.
Hi there. So i get the same thing on mine. I thought I should report my experience.
Had it over a year old then all of a sudden it started acting like this
heres what i tried
Factory reset, rooted it twice, boot with no sim, no SD card, dismantled it via instructions I found on an android forum to check for loose connections, gave it to a friend who ran some different roms, overclocked it, underclocked it. Its currently on the Oxygen rom, no difference. I tried the secret menu from page one of the comments. I tried living with leaving the screen on for 30 mins..but its so impractical
I should add that if i leave it for say a couple of hours, the damn thing comes on just fine. Its only from being on, to off, then back on..
I think its hardware related, maybe something to do with the power being held back for the screen or something. All i can say is that its really doing my tits in and i'm currently using my old phone which is functional but not as fun.
What can i do next...send to HTC, i'm out of warranty but their repair centre can still have a look, or buy a faulty phone off ebay and harvest some parts...
I dont want to give up on it, because apart from this the phone works fine.
guys i had this problem too, when i force to use 3G only everything works perfect but in area with no 3G signal your phone become useless cuz you are out of network, i also had a self-rebboting problem and i sent my lovely desire to htc repair center, they replace mobo and now i am waiting to receive my phone back and i will test this issue, if everything will works correctly in 3g/gsm etc you guys need to do the same and sent your phone to repair,

[GUIDE] [HOW TO] Fix VS986 dropping down to 3G/H+ from 4G LTE

I've been working on a fix since a long time now. If you are in SD community then you prolly know me. Anyway I was able to fix this on two of my phones and it's working fine. I tested for 12 hours now. I'll also tell you in the end what problems I'm seeing. I'm also working on a fix for that.
I noticed that a service is started when the fallback happens but if I kill that service the network also dies. But if you follow the below method it safely starts a new service which kills the one that's responsible for killing the 4G/LTE
1. Upgrade your phone to 13B firmware
2. Root 13B
3. Now download Shortcut Master lite app from play store.
4. Now add these shortcuts to your favorites in the "Shortcut Master lite app". You can search for "LTE" and click on search button
LTEBandSelection
LTETestMain
LTE System Selection
CDMAPreference
5. Now click on "LTEBandSelection" and enable all the bands
6. Save and reboot
7. You now need to enable your data and turn off your wifi. Make sure your phone is in Global mode (in settings >> Mobile networks >> System select)
8. After your phone is rebooted open "Shortcut Master lite" app.
9. Now tap on LTETestMain
10. Select Click on CDMA preference.
Now choose Band preference and select "any"
P_REV_Preference ---> "MOB_P_REV 3
This is important.. EVDO Revision --> Rev A
11. "LTE Connect w/o IMS PDN" must be checked
12. Now go back to your main menu in shortcut master lit app
13. This step is very important. Changing the timeout is important. Tap on LTE System Selection
Except "Scan duration" add a couple zeros to all the other timers. For eg: T_mpsr timer (Min) is 200
The fallback timer will reset itself after reboot. But don't worry the configuration is already updated with the new value. For some reasons the shortcut master lite app is not picking it up.
14. Now finally click on "CDMA preference" in the main menu and make sure it has the value you set in Step 10
At step 10 or 13 your network should go away and your phone should complain about "no network". That's fine. just ignore the message.
Now finally reboot your phone. That's it. You should now have 4G LTE and it won't fallback to 3G or H+
The only problem is when I'm on a call my 4G LTE is dropped to 3G/H+. But after I hang up it goes back to 4G LTE after 12 seconds. I don't know if it's an expected behavior. But I'm trying to see if there is a fix for that.
I tested this with Tmobile. Make sure your APN settings are correct.
Not working for me on Cricket (AT&T). Still will always go back to H+, 4G LTE only works when I select CDMA.

Awesome, thank you! worked for me T-mobile.
it initially didn't work but I had to turn data off then on.
It also cycles me to 2g speed for a few seconds sometimes but that may be due to poor signal in building.

Yeah It's due to the poor signal. I got that too. You can check your signal strength using LTE discover app.
But overall it's working fine for Tmobile. I'm gonna try and fix ATT tonight.
Is 13B the main thing in the solution? I've changed these settings before on 11A and wasn't fixed. I tried these numbers on 11A and still don't work.
Also, unless a phone supports VOLTE, it'll fall back to 3G/H for calls.

I tried in 11A and it didn't work for me. So I guess it needs 13B.
So I tried various combinations last night for AT&T/Cricket, but I was not able to get it to work. No matter what I tried, when I had 4G LTE, voice wouldn't work and whenever voice worked, I was back to H+.
If others are reporting that T-Mobile works reliably on 4G and nobody can figure out how to make this work for AT&T, I guess it's time to switch to T-Mobile.

No. Hold on. I have a solution for ATT too. I tried something last night. Actually while I was working on a solution for ATT I found that we don't even have to go through the steps I mentioned in my OP to solve the problem. It boils down to invoking a service and killing a native VZW service.
The ATT solution I have works but in low signal area 4G fades and it doesn't fallback to 3G or H+. I had to recycle data to get 3G or H+.
It's Working!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!

Yes, that same thing happens when you switch to CDMA mode with AT&T. Voice doesn't work then (obviously), but it also doesn't fall back to H+ automatically, when you lose 4G coverage you pretty much lose signal all together.

Yeah I know. I also know why that is happening. Actually I think it's a bug in the baseband firmware. But we can fix that issue by just overriding the command that was sent by baseband firmware.

Root? I just flashed the rooted sys image. That's it. instead of copying it in the FAT32 memory card just copy it to your phone's internal and you don't have to deal with split and merge stuff
If it drops out of 4G on a call then you're talking on 1X. So no video chat, no HD voice and no voice + data?

Way to switch between 2g-3g-4g radios

Just in case someone who has this wonderful phone needs even better battery life try switching from 4g to 3g.
Here you are you may have to fiddle around with it to get it working I stick with the preloaded radio toggles,
CDMA auto PRL = 3G
EVDO Only = 1G or 2G network not certain.
And then of course your LTE/CDMA auto.
Good luck https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...Oqy5H3znZLfFLmawQ&sig2=B9QbzOsLdQ-UdV8KD_f-sQ
You can reach that menu by dialing *#*#4636*#*#.
Remember that if you force LTE only most carriers won't let you make/receive calls nor SMS
The app seems to make things easier, and I've tried on Verizon I have forced LTE and I can still make and receive calls, I've also forced 3g and I'm still able to makes and receive calls
Can someone help me understand how to use this app? The toggles sometimes work, but sometimes doesn't. I'm trying to use this on T-mobile and so I set it to either LTE /GSM or only GSM. I don't know how to get GPS set either. I think the MM update made the radio buggy... Any help or advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have only tested this on Verizon, so that may be an issue, yet when I first installed it I had a little trouble as well try switching between the mentioned toggles, and there is a setting that says select radio band try switching that, I hope this helps good luck
As regards to your GPS that should be in your settings app under location

I toggle the 'location' button but this app says the GPS is disconnected! And my maps churn when this happens. When it's says connected, it loads fine. But toggling that off and on doesn't always make the values change in this app. The information in this app seems more accurate then the phones stock settings.

HTC One M9 - GSM Network Issue

Hello guys!
My HTC One M9 is giving me some headaches!
What is happening is that if I'm inside home, I cannot get GSM network. This happens for both voice and data.
As soon as I go outside, I get the 4G working like a charm. I could live with this, but sometimes I need to sleep inside home
From my troubleshooting around this, I found out that if I reset the phone, there is no change.
Reset network settings does nothing.
Sometimes if I restart the phone I get network, but it goes away quickly.
No change if I enable and disable the flight mode.
What does work is if I set the network mode to be 2G only, then I have the network and all works (except the data with some low speeds).
The phone is now with the build 4.28.401.3
I've tried different RUUs and it is the same thing.
Can someone help to try to understand what can be the cause for this?
.... could it be a network issue?

Yes, I have noticed a similar issue and it has been very annoying. I know that in my area, I can get 4g+, but it only picks it up sometimes and goes away. Also, I have very strong 4g signal around my area but for some reason, it always uses 2g and sometimes gives my 4g, but rarely. I think it has something to do with the way sense automatically switches between networks.
Try typing in *#*#4636#*#*, press phone information and where it says some thing like lte/wcdma auto and select what you prefer. I chose lte/wcdma and now I only get 4g and 3g signals which is acceptable. If you want GSM or something, choose it as preferred. Play around with the different ones and see which is best for you.
If not, try a non sense rom, I don't know if that would help but give it a go.
Hope this helps,
Jev
Well, I've tried different settings, but it does the same. Only when using 2G or GSM only it works inside home.
I am yet to test with a non-sense ROM. Because for me, having an HTC is also because I like sense.
Either way, it seems to me that it can be hardware and not software.
Do someone knows what controls this network settings? A different board? A chip?
You mention applying the Nougat RUU for your phone - did you first update to Nougat via OTA?
The update was made via OTA. A regular update but this was already happening before the update.

:-/ Darn. Good on you for updating correctly, for sure, but that eliminates the problem I was anticipating.
Could be a carrier issue. If the other phone that has a good signal is an m9 then obviously your phone has a fault. If it was a different model and/or brand then you should learn something about "industry standards" as far as signal detection and interpretation goes. Just because one certain type/model/brand of phone has a good signal it doesn't mean another "has to".
