Q: Hey TEKHD, Does this work with Android 5.0.1?
A: Probably... but I haven't tested it on 5.0.1...
Q: Hey TEKHD, but I think I still have Knox after flashing the file...!
A: I never completely remove Knox... I simply disable it in a way that it does not affect the OS in any negative way.

Thank you. You're the best.

im flashing this as soon as i get root thanks

Short of a Nandroid restore, is there a .ZIP to flash that backs this out?
Also, has anyone tried this on v5.0.1?

Thanks, worked great on the N910T3 on 5.1.1

I don't get this actually. what do I benefit of disabling Knox ? can I install TWRP and flash a rom without knox detecting it now ?

Link doesn't work anymore. How does one find the .zip for disabling Knox? Is rooting possible if that second to last step is done a different way?

don't care for knox since i have no need for it. thank you!

Can I use this on a Samsung Galaxy J5 with stock 5.1.1 ?

Does this also work on a Note 3 Neo with stock 5.1.1 ?

Thanks ? ??

Please can i use it on my note edge 6.0.1?

I have Edge S7 T-Mobile with TitaniumBackup Pro vs.7.5
I have first backed up and froze and then completely uninstalled blow listed packages. I after freezing Knox, I found out through the GSam that all or some were still running behind the scenes. As you are aware, Knox is an enterprise security system that impacts the overall performance and slows the system down. It also has a significant impact on the battery consumption and battery life.
I am not responsible for your actions and if you do so, make sure you know what you are doing. Make a complete backup of your system before doing making changes via TWRP. I have downloaded ‘Stock Edge S7 SM G935 T ROM (G935TUVU3APG1)’ from https://samsung-firmware.org/ prior to doing this due to the fact that TWRP does not support Snap Dragon yet. Moreover, I have SOFT BRICKED my phone at my 1st trial !!!
p.s. Your version numbers might be different from mine. I uninstalled these files two weeks ago. Also, you might have different packages based on your provider's settings.
SOFT BRICKED: I have forgotten to freeze the “Frozen” apps, listed below prior to uninstallation of Knox and Kies

[Solution] APN fix for TracFone (Straight Talk) variant when using custom ROMs

I have a TracFone (Straight Talk) Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 variant. (SCH-S960L d2tfnspr) Whenever I used a custom ROM made for Sprint devices LTE/Data and/or MMS never worked properly. This is because the APNs the SCH-S960L uses differs from the standard Sprint APNs. It was extremely difficult trying to figure out what the APNs were since the TracFone APNs floating around on the internet are for Straight Talk BYOP. (AT&T and T-Mobile)
Finally I discovered a solution. Someone else in my household uses the same model phone but theirs is on stock TouchWiz. Using APN Backup and Restore I backed that phone's APNs.
Now for what I did after backing up the working APNs and for you need to do to fix your phone. You're ROM must support root access. While I'm not quite sure I believe you also need a custom recovery. (You probably have one already since you flashed your custom ROM) So I would recommend using CWM or TWRP. This may be necessary to convert a user app into system app.
Once you have this download the file I've attached. Do not rename it since the app you will be using requires it to be named that way. Go to the Play store and download HiAPN. You will need to give it root access and make it a system app. It will prompt you to do so. The reason it needs all these permissions is to access the APNs. Once you've done this use the restore feature and select the file. The file you downloaded must be in the folder for HiAPN. ~/HiDroid_Net/HiAPN Once this completes, check that the Network Mode in your settings is set to LTE/CDMA/EvDo. HiAPN may change it to a GSM mode which is incorrect. Then just go ahead and restart your phone. The final step is demote HiAPN and remove it if you choose to. It's requesting many permissions and it's partially in a foreign language. (What you need to do is in English) You can use an app like Titanium Backup to remove it since you can't the normal way because it's currently a system app.
I truly hoped this helped you since it helped me. Feel free to ask questions and I will answer them to the best of my knowledge.

This thread has nothing to do with your question, mate. But you can install Xposed on any rooted phone. After you install it, the Xposed app will have a list of modules, although not all modules will work with all phones. Nandroid backup before anything.

[Q] knox and rooting questions

Hey everyone. Im relatively new to this forum and rooting. I have some background knowledge in programming and other related aspects, unfortunately nothing related to Android. As well as some Linux OS experience. Now as far as i know ROM's could be compared to OS builds. Android 4.1.2, 4.3, 4.4, etc. Rooting makes you a super user/sudo like Linux. I think i have that pretty much correct. Now for the things i know little about.
-KNOX so far it seems its mostly used for enterprises and to see if we have installed a custom ROM. I've seen a lot of different information about Knox. What exactly else does it do/change? As of 4.3 i see we could no longer roll back or we will brick our device. What should i be wary of? I could care less about tripping the knox counter.
-Stock OTA is another thing i was curious about. This simply means an update was installed post factory by user, correct? My girlfriend has an S3 and i cant remember if 4.3 was stock or 4.1.2. I just wanted to clear up if my OTA updated S3 was covered under this.
-i saw one root method which kept the stock recovery but installed the superuser. What is the benefit for having a stock recovery? Would i be able to use a custom one with Knox in place? I was thinking of using a 4.4 cyanogenmod rom.
Sorry if this seems a bit noobish, but my schedule is tight and i spent maybe 6 hours trying to find exact information. Kind of hidden lol.
I appreciate any answers!

And to answer some if them.
There is no advantage to stock recovery, you can't do anything with it.
Yes you can do anything the same with Knox but installing a custom recovery triggers the warranty bit in Knox. If you bring in your phone to be repaired or something, if they put the phone in Download Mode they could tell whether you installed a custom recovery because Warranty Bit would say 1 instead of zero. There's also no way to reset the flash counter with Knox.
And the biggest thing, if you have Knox do not try to downgrade the firmware. Aka don't try to Odin anything other than 4.3+. It will brick your device.
Other than those things it won't effect you at all.
And yes an OTA is Over The Air update. When the device scans for firmware updates and it find one it automatically downloads it and persistently bugs you about it until your firmware is the most current version. Done by the user or sometimes the techs at phone stores like to do it without asking you.
So to clarify (at work, ill read your link, appeciate it) Knox wont affect anything BUT the counter and downgrading? So i could root the old way with odin and cwm for 4.1.2 without problems?
Stock recovery is just worse in general or similar? Lastly "stock" ota is what i meant lol. I guess that means a non-custom ROM from your carrier?
I personally dont care for my warranty, i have a few months left in my contract and could upgrade now to a new phone if i wanted.
Thanks. I hate to sound like i did no research, i appreciate the link.

Tab S 8.4 - Root

Hi Guys,
I have question with regards to rooting of Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE version. I am suppose to follow this link , however, I need to verify few things to make sure i will not break the device.
1. Does the link I provided is good start and I can successfully root the device?
2. What happen if my device is rooted and there's new android version (say 4.4.3), do I get the update and can install it on the device?
3. How can I unroot the device incase I need to send back the unit for warranty?
4. Does Samsung will know if the device is rooted before?
5. What is the risk involve on rooting?
6. Do i need to restore the device before I do rooting?
7. Do I loose some features on the Samsung Tab if I root the device (such as stay wake, Finger scanner, etc)? - I like some features on Samsung Tab, but the reason for me to root is to remove other appsthat samsung installed, to free up space by installing Folder Mount and move some apps to SD card, to gain more visibility/ control of the device, etc .
Pardon me if I post on the wring section of the forum or It is forbidden to post such question, but I just needed to know these things before I proceed with rooting the device. I am also looking to root my Note 4
Thanks in advance.

firstly.. there are Q&A and troubleshooting section here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help where you are suppose to start this thread.
any way i'll answer your doubt.
1. yes its a good place. but just use a proper files from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/cf-auto-root-chainfire-t2881826
2. you can download the full stock firmware at sammobile.com and flash it using odin.
3. Just enter the supersu apps and click unroot in the option. that's all. or just flash the official stock firmware via odin
4,5 Yes and you loose the warranty and now knox meter will be 0x1
6. No
7. Screen Mirror might not working. others work as usual unless you remove some required files. i think folder mount wont work on 4.4.2
Thanks, edan1979 .
Based on the site you've provided ([ROOT]Official CF-Auto-Root By Chainfire.) I am wondering if my device is capable and do I get the correct CF-Auto. I am attaching a screenshot of "About Device" of y Tab S 8.4 LTE.

Thanks, edan1979. Do you have Tab S8.4LTE where you already root it? hows it performs? better than Stock ?
Additional question, the firmware from http://www.sammobile.com/ is stock or custom?
So if I rooted my device, it will not AUTO update right? which I need to download the firmware from http://www.sammobile.com/, after I flash it, do I need to re-root the device?
Thanks.

Stock Rom Stripped of Bloatware from Samsung Repair Center

I recently got my S6 back from Samsung. They untripped knox, and installed a very slim rom without any of the sprint bloatware, and no sprint splash screen. Is there some way I can back up this rom to be able to flash it in odin if/when I need to?
Thanks!

You can back up everything if you flash TWRP recovery and select the backup option it comes in hand but other than that i dont believe you can do it without tripping Knox again
Thanks for the reply, that's unfortunate news. I really don't feel like tripping Knox since I would like samsung pay to continue working.

You can try ADB Backup. A good set of instructions can be found at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/general/guide-phone-backup-unlock-root-t1420351
No guarantee that this will work, but it should not trip Knox.
Please post a system dump of this b3fore you do anything. PLEASE

Is it oi1 build ? Ive sent plenty phones back for warranty and samsung never did that before . Trip knox , so what? Samsung warrantys phones like that all the time . Just tell them you took it to the samsung experience shop at "BestBuy" and they tried to flash the operating system to get the phone working properly again. Id tell them it kept rebooting after you updated it through wifi to 5.1.1 . Youll never have an issue with them if you explain it to them that way . Give us a new build lol

I have yet to Root the phone, been waiting and think I will try soon, as I might not need Samsung Pay, been playing with Google 's " Android Pay " not sure what if I will even use these services, I might just root now... LOL

Need assistance

So last week my note started to receive the networksystemprovider error and the only way I can get it to stop popping up every 5 seconds is to freeze it, but then I cannot receive any text. So I was hoping to just update the phone but it has been so long since I did anything to it I am very confused on how.

What are you currently running? Stock rooted OG5 with initial release of Beastmode?
You should remove ItsOn if running custom kernel- unless you know how to remove it. I've seen ItsOn try to repeatedly to activate itself- but can't with custom kernel. It prompts or forces reboots with no end after the user factory resets in recovery when leaving fragments of ItsOn in internal memory.
I don't know what you want to do but there's many choices:
If you're looking for customization on lollipop, checkout Moar 2.1b One day marshmallow will have a ported ROM of this caliber or better.
If you're looking for stability and maybe something a bit faster, try a marshmallow custom ROM.
Just a couple of examples. Find a ROM and follow the OP install instructions closely. That most likely means using the stock tar flash in Odin to update to suggested update and turning off automatic updates before the update nag starts. But don't go back any farther than OG5 with Odin; the bootloader won't allow the older stock tars to flash.
I was actually to go to stock marshmallow but with root like I have know. I have never been really into trying all the different roms I just want to have root for the Hotspot. I tried to look through the thread but I just get more confused.

Which thread is confusing? Hotspot, update and root (aka stock tar thread in general forum) or custom ROM threads?
Which hotspot method are you using or prefer? I believe the non root method requires a do over on each boot. Don't use much at all but I prefer permanent myself for the other benefits custom services.jar provides.
That network error is caused by ItsOn not being fully removed and the custom kernel not supporting it. If you use stock kernel, you could leave ItsOn intact but some consider it a privacy and battery liability: unneeded bloat and potentially problematic.
