***Successful Carrier Unlock???*** - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

I realize the S6 Edge+ has only been out for a few days, but has anyone achieved carrier unlock with their S6 Edge+?
I can live with temporary no root (though Chainfire may have achieved root? buy sacrificing Samsung Pay?)
and I understand the 40 day TMobile, active usage requirement before being able to request carrier unlock from TMobile
However, I wish to use a fully paid off device on another carrier (Straight Talk AT&T). I should be able to use the device as how I see fit if the device is fully paid off and I have no further obligation to TMobile...
Any successful 3rd party unlock service or successful carrier unlock by any methods posted?

Samsung / Tmobile has a rule that they will only give a unlock code
after you have had the phone for 30 days and the phone is paid off.
Good luck,
Have a great day!

Thanks for the info guys.
I've used cellunlocker in the past. I think there is a very good chance of the carrier unlock going through (also listed on their site - and still no prob w my past unlock).

Aha! I'm just fuc*ing blind. LOL!

Hi how do you enter the unlock code when i insert different sim it says use device unlock app. And i tried that app and it says i m not eligible to unlock permanently. And with this code is ut permanent or tmobile can lock it again.

You cannot unlock with a unlock code, tmobile removed it from there software. You can only unlock through the tmobile unlock app after you pay the phone off and use it for a month i believe it was.
If you dont meet those requirements and want to still unlock it early message @Sunderwear , he is legit and i paid him to unlock my financed lg g4

I tried everything there is no way you can unlock the device permanently through the unlock app unless its paid in full before Tmobile will unlock your phone after 40 days but now they allow you to unlock the phone temporary for 30 days only. 4 times a year.
You can buy unlock codes online but there is no way you can enter them in phone.
The only way would be after rooting if someone makes program. Otherwise there is no option available yet to unlock.

Are you on installment plan? Or did u paid in full.
And what reason did u tell them to unlock your phone.

Any luck with unlocking this phone? I tried different services online but they all are unable to unlock it.

Message @Sunderwear ,he has access to the T-Mobile servers and can override/approve your unlock early. I had him do it for my lg g4

Verizon Locked Bootloader?

Hey everyone.
I'm sure there is still a level of uncertainty regarding my question but I thought I'd still ask.
Does anyone know if the Verizon Pixel 2 XL has a locked bootloader? I'm in kind of a pinch and need a phone now. I can get one from Verizon today but I can't get one from Google until the 25th. I realize that this is me being a little b*tc* about not having a phone and "right now".. but I'm curious if I'm going to run into issues later on by getting a Verizon version of the phone.
The original Verizon Pixels had locked bootloaders, and so does every other Verizon branded phone from the past few years, so it's reasonable to assume that these will too. The Sunshine crew managed to unlock the original Pixel bootloaders on day 1 though (they even released it the unlock method for free), so maybe you'll get lucky.
The Verizon version does have a locked bootloader. No uncertainty about that. The uncertainty is whether or not someone will figure out how to unlock it at some point in the future.
I would say yes it's locked.

You're right. I was about to go buy one at a store. When I asked can I just pay in full and walk out the guy was like no. He said it had to be active on a Verizon number. He recommended I buy from Google if those are my intentions.

I am in pretty much the same boat as the OP where I needed a phone asap so I just went ahead and purchased one from Verizon (+ $40 for a month of prepaid smh) and yes my boatloader is locked (facepalm). I was hoping the same workaround for the OG pixel would work were as long as you initially boot the phone with a Sim from another carrier the bootloader would stay unlocked... So I made sure they didn't open and setup the phone for me. Unfortunately when I eventually did open it, it appeared as though they may have opened it and turned it on at least once (possibly specifically for this purpose smh). Now I'm either stuck or I could return it and take the L on the $40 prepaid + $35 restocking.
Luckily I like it enough that I can do without root and roms for now at least.
Fingers crossed someone finds an exploit.

Thank you to everyone who replied to this. Due to your responses and the confirmation from those who've received their phones from Verizon, I am going to hold off and just wait for an unlocked phone from Google. If I'm paying $1000 for a phone, I better be able to do whatever I want with that phone.

Just so you know on my google store version the oem unlock was greyed out. SO i reset the phone and during setup said i had google FI . then connected to wifi and the option was available for me to toggle. I know this is a google store version but maybe this will be enough of a trick like last years to unlock verizon before putting the sim in (like i did)

Verizon OEM Unlock Enabled?

tldr; Received carrier update and now OEM Unlocking can be toggled?
About a month ago I purchased a Pixel 3a XL from eBay that was listed as a Sprint model. After buying it and activating it with Sprint I discovered that the phone is actually a Verizon model (IMEI starts with 35 and Verizon website confirms it's a Verizon model). I was disappointed to learn that the bootloader could not be unlocked.
Before learning that the phone was a Verizon model I put in a request with Sprint to fully unlock the device but the "OEM Unlocking" option remained grayed out. Sprint support assured me that the device is carrier unlocked and the OEM Unlocking option should be available.
Yesterday I received the latest Android 10 update, followed by a notification that said "Carrier Update - Your device is now carrier unlocked". I quickly went to Developer Settings and discovered that OEM Unlocking is no longer grayed out and can now be toggled.
Has this happen for anyone else with a Verizon Pixel 3a XL?
Note: I haven't actually had a chance to attempt to unlock the bootloader in fastboot yet because I am away from home on a road trip.

I bought my phone outright not from Verizon (it's a Verizon model too) and was able to toggle OEM unlock as soon as it was turned on (I did just that and immediately rooted just fine).
Makes me think it was an error that you weren't able to unlock from the get go and Verizon just took a bit to catch up on the unlock status unless the original buyer got it from Verizon?

Oh that's interesting. From what I read on here I thought that the Verizon models of the pixels could not be bootloader unlocked.
I'm unsure where the phone was originally purchased from. I bought it from a reseller on ebay. I did contact the seller and let him know that it is a Verizon model because the ad stated it was a Sprint verison. He/She claimed that they had no idea it was a Verizon model.
I'll attempt to unlock the bootloader tomorrow and report back.

Yea I was confused too when I noticed the Verizon apps in /product/priv-app/ but so far I've had no issues, even when flashing the factory images from Google, so I assume JB Hi-Fi made sure there were no carrier restrictions on the unlocked models they were selling.

Just wanted to follow with that I had no issues unlocking the bootloader and getting root with magisk on the latest 10 update.
I looked in /product/priv-app/ after rooting and also saw some Verizon apps in there. Not really sure where my phone originally came from but I'm glad I was able to use it on my carrier (Sprint) and root it.
Now I just have to figure out why my root has 0% free.

Nice.
/ Has no free space because the pixel3a uses logical partitions on Android 10. Essentially they're read only and will resize as needed during updates. Pretty much if you want to modify any system files, you must use magisk to do so.

I just found this post looking to see if this was the case, but haven't found any other posts/threads anywhere about it.
I actually bought a Pixel 3a XL from my Verizon store on the 17th and have 26 days left until they'll let me SIM unlock.
I'll come back to this post when I confirm either getting access to OEM Unlocking or failing to.
Including various screenshots showing I'm Verizon-locked in lieu of an IMEI number
UPDATE: Strangely, the OEM Unlocking option remains grayed out, but the text has changed to "Connect to the internet or contact your carrier."
I'll probably investigate further in the next few days.

I just got a Verizon Pixel 3a XL for use on T-Mobile and it says "Connect to the internet or contact your carrier" where I should be able to uncheck unlock bootloader.
I am even more confused after coming across this thread. How do I unlock the bootloader? I have to contact Verizon or something?
Getting a replacement (Verizon version) next week, any suggestions on what to do prior to putting the Sim in or connecting to internet to try and unlock bootloader?

Question Will the Verizon or AT&T 6 Pro models be unlocked?

I've been buying unlocked phones for years and I can't remember the last time I bought from a carrier. But I can get a 6 Pro 256GB from one of those carriers for $500 through work so I'm thinking I might try.
I guess the other thing I'd ask is if they've clarified if the Google-direct 6 Pro will support mm-wave/UWB 5G?
I guess my Google-fu was weak today. Seems the jury is stil out on the locked part, but likely locked and par for the course.
Found a doc that clarifies the 5G confusion here, too.
We need someone with Verizon or AT&T version to check if OEM Unlocking is available or greyed out.

Not sure about AT&T, but you buy a device from VZW, the bootloader is locked forever.
Not only that, if you buy a device from the manufacturer (Google P6P) that VZW carries, you will not be able to ensure that device through VZW, and you'll lose done VZW specific features like free 25gb cloud.
Might have changed over the last few years, but the way VZW is, I doubt it.
Call VZW customer service and straight out ask what happens, what account features do you lose, if you buy a P6P directly from Google, and add it to your VZW account.
I'll keep a 4 yr old device before I buy from a carrier again!

Ugh. Thanks for posting this. Have you paid it off and gotten it carrier unlocked? Because I was 90% sure it would allow you to unlock the bootloader then.
Or, set up off line, with no active SIM, and unlockable.
I tried offline setup and it first tells you it needs cellular or wifi to verify something. Then after connecting to wifi it says it can't be unlocked. Tried this on a 256gb p6p Verizon
AT&T is bootloader locked. I returned it and got an unlocked one from Best Buy.

Sorry if lot sounds like I'm being too specific on this, but did you fully pay off the phone and ask AT&T to unlock it? I'm sure the bootloader is locked at first, but they've always allowed phones to be unblocked and that to the best of my knowledge. And they have to carrier unlock it before you'd be able to bootloader unlock it.
On the offline note, I'm pretty sure there's a way around that offline. In some cases, I bring it was earlier Samsung Galaxy phones, your had to tap a hidden white hotspot area on the instruction screen several times and it would move forward offline. Just FWIW.

Sorry for the confusion I was able to reach the home screen in offline setup mode. What I was referring to is using the offline trick to unlock the bootloader. Unfortunately I was unable to unlock it even with the offline setup. Sigh I probably have to get an unlocked model if I want to root. Using vzw was the cheapest route for me. This was on a Verizon p6p

Well in the screenshot, it says "unavailable on carrier-locked devices" underneath the OEM unlocking toggle, so instead of having to go through AT&T to get it sim unlocked, what if you use a 3rd party paid service to sim unlock the device? would that allow you to also unlock the bootloader? And if so, would it work for the other carrier variants too?

So my 6 Pro came in yesterday. After years of buying Pixel phones from the Google Store with MetroPCS, I decided to take advantage of the $900 trade in with Tmobile and got the 6 Pro through them.
I wasn't patient enough to wait the 40 days to receive the OEM unlock, so I installed the Tmobile app on the P6, chatted with tech support and they agreed to unlock the phone, no questions asked! Thought that i would get pushback for being a brand new account, but nope........they said to give it up to 24 hours and they will call me back with the unlock code!
Can't wait to unlock and root!
Sounds like you're on the xda fast track to unlock happiness!

Did you ever receive that unlock code from T-Mobile? I want to do the same. Did you have to give them a specific reason for wanting to unlock the phone?

Most folks (in other threads in this P6P section) who had their T-Mobile P6P sim-unlocked and were able to bootloader unlock gave the reason that they were traveling out of the country (and therefore needed to be able to use a foreign SIM card).
They also would tell customer service that the temporary unlock wasn't working repeatedly, and then T-Mobile issues permanent unlocks. Or you can pay your phone off.

I just tried and gave them that reason, they said they'd give me a 3 month unlock and not a permanent one since the device wasn't fully paid off. I wonder if I'd still be able to unlock my bootloader.

Good luck! Let us know. In the other threads, some folks said it just depended on who you talked to, some will give permanent unlock, some won't. Or they've gotten wise.

Hey, yes I did. I told them that I was an Android developer and needed to unlock my bootloader so that I could test my applications. At first they only gave me a 30 day code. Called them back and told them that I needed a full unlock since the 30 day code doesn't allow me to unlock the bootloader. After I reassured them that I needed it for work purposes and that I would have to return the phone and cancel my account if I couldn't unlock the bootloader, they finally permanently unlocked it.
I'm now rooted and waiting for those custom Roms to start dropping!
Same.

Yup, that's exactly what they did to mines as well. I didn't have to do anything on my end. Didn't enter any codes, etc.
But just like that, can they reverse flip the switch to lock my phone up again?
Yea i just got my Black Back Ordered 6 Pro Last week, and billed the $299 to a new account and was able to get Care to unlock 1 week after purchase by saying i was leaving the country for the holidays...
I'm still struggling to get them to not do a temp unlock. Did you call or tweet? @AndroidAddict420

I assume you mean your phone is carrier unlocked, which isn't the same as bootloader unlocked. Try rebooting and see if the toggle is still grayed out.

I have rebooted multiple times. Still it is greyed out. Is OEM unlocking the bootloader?
I did a factory reset and now it's available.

Now you should unlock the bootloader, since that will force another factory reset.

I connected to the flash tool https://flash.android.com/ and it prompted me to unlock the bootloader. Now I'm on the developer instance which is what I wanted.
Funny thing though. I just got my T-Mobile bill and it appears they are charging me for my phone so I need to call and resolve that. I guess they decided to require me to pay my phone off since they were unlocking my phone but that wasn't the agreement we had so here's my new task.
I hate this at a glance that can't be removed or moved.

Nova Launcher (Prime) for the win. I used to tinker with stock launchers and a few other third-party launchers, but for the last 10 (?) years or so, I always go back to Nova Launcher and I don't bother fooling with any others any more.
I still use At A Glance, but I love being able to customize everything including widget sizes.
My at a glance is jacked up
I can't move or resize it. I use Nova (and klwp) but do I need Nova prime?

Question Verizon Carrier Lock

I Searched the forum but could not find an answer. I have been out of the ROM game for a few years. I know what I did was ill advised, please be merciful
I bought a Verizon Pixel 6 Pro off of Facebook. I knew to check that the IMEI was not on the stolen list and verified that it was paid off, but I get en error when I put my Visible Sim card in the phone. It says "Sim card isn't supported. Ask Verizon if this device can be unlocked."

I called Verizon and the rep said that if I wait 60 days from the phone's original activation it should unlock automatically even though I don't have Verizon Service. The Rep said that I could use this device on Verizon Prepaid or regular service, but I have $5 months for referrals on Visible, that I would lose if I switched.
The Rep also said that you can request an unlock since the phone was paid off and IMEI was clear, but that I could not because in their system I was not the phone's owner. They could not tell me the date when the phone was activated because it would be a privacy issue.
I tried to work it out with the person I bought the phone from to get them to request the unlock, but got ghosted.
Questions:
1.) Does anyone know if it is true that my phone will unlock after 60 days without Verizon Service?
2.) If I put the phone on Verizon PrePaid service for 60 days, would that count as service and get it unlocked?
3.) If I activate on Verizon Prepaid or activate on no contract post paid will it take the last owner of the phone off of their "record" at Verizon so I can just request that the carrier lock be removed myself?
Thank you!
PS Once I get this figured out I will post what happened for anyone else that might run into this in the future.
As far as I was aware, all Verizon phones are carrier (erroneously called SIM) unlocked from the start. I've been away from Verizon for 5+ years, though, so that might've changed.
Note that just as has been said multiple times in multiple threads in this section (and every other possible phone section), that carrier unlock won't be the same as bootloader unlock, which will be impossible except by winning some kind of rare bootloader lottery, per se. (effectively never).
It's possible you don't want to unlock the bootloader since you only mention carrier unlocking, but I just wanted to head that part off just in case that's where you end up leading the conversation, so forgive me if I'm mistaken.
Hopefully, someone else with modern experience with Verizon can answer your two specific questions, however.

Having ROM'ed lots of phones years ago, it was my first though to be able to change it by modifying the bootloader and/or firmware. I quickly ruled that out with the search feature before posting. (bummer)
I do appreciate you pointing this out to keep this thread on track. I witnessed some of the other disasters in my searching.
Yeah it’s true Verizon locks their phone for 60 days to their network and then unlocks it automatically. I’m not exactly sure if the device has to be continuously active though to be unlocked but I know that it had to be activated and used on their network to start the timer.
What you can try doing is to use online unlock services like drsim and try to get in unlocked with imei number. It’s not free but it might be worth it if you don’t wanna wait.
Is the 60 day unlock based on network checks? Or is it something really stupid like based on the system DATE? Might be worth trying to set the clock ahead and see if that fixes it.

I'm not sure if its based on network checks or something else. I did try to set the date ahead (2 months and a few days out) and it gave me the same message with the Visible sim card.

Yeah it sucks about the locked bootloader and junk but google won't exchange it for me even though the order say unlocked and I have this.
Because it's past 15 days.
Anyway I had to call vzw like 50 time only to be told 49 times if I don't have an account we can't help you bye. It took 7 hours of calling.
I finally got them to give me a complementary esim to unlock it and now it's ok

That's ridiculous... they don't have a choice, 15 days or not unless you are not saying something relevant to the story.
If you ordered A and they shipped B... they have to fix it. Dispute the charge with your credit card company if needed.

Did you ever figure this out? I bought a used s22+, checked with 4 different Verizon reps and they said they phone is unlocked. But of course I cant use it on another network (have tried on MintMobile which is Tmobile now). It just says "this phone cant be activated on another network"
