S pen put in backwards.... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note5

So this has been posted only once somewhere else, but unfortunately not on XDA. I accidentally put my s pen in my phone backwards and it was stuck. Of course, I frantically pulled it out, but the end is now stuck inside the phone and will not come out.
Anyone have any advice? Would I be able to take it back under a 14 day return or warranty it? This really sucks right now.
So I advise you all not to do what I did.

Okay, so what I suggest is putting super glue on the tip of your s pen and putting it in there. Maybe gorilla glue and use it to fish it out?

From what I read it's not coming out. The design of the locking and the pens design missed this lol.

So I was able to get my pen out but the sensors and locking mechanism is now broken. Pen still works. You must turn off Sale pen detection I believe.

I was specifically warned not to do this by my best buy sales person. I thought, well, let me see if there's resistance before it gets stuck...Nope! Like an idiot, I broke it off in there. The good news is that Samsung will repair it for a cost. I'll let you know how much. Call it an "idiot tax"

This made me laugh.

I put my pen in backwards and had it stuck although I didn't break the end by forcing it out. I tried to exchange it at Best Buy, but was turned down. I called Samsung Support and they created a 2-day shipping label for me to send them the phone. I sent them the phone 8/26 and it is scheduled to arrive in my hands 9/10 which means I will be apart from my phone for 16 days. I was not charged for the repair nor the shipping to and from the repair center.

Blue circle explains it all...

Thanks for the link. I would never be stupid enough to put it in backwards but just in case I let someone use my device and they do, this is great info.

Yes, I thought I would never be stupid enough to put it in backwards either. But rushing to clear out from one meeting on the way to another one, talking to some folks at the same time, in backwards it went.
My only gripe with Samsung is there is absolutely NO difference in resistance inserting it backwards or forwards, although I'm not sure it would be possible to do that and keep the flush fitting s-pen.
I used the drinking straw method to remove my s-pen, and the internals of the phone are fine. Thank you Internet for saving my device!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using XDA Free mobile app

I've seen many videos confirming the paper method works to fix this issue. Your post is the first I've heard that the straw method also works. It is the ease in which this mistake can be made that is the design flaw.

4 hour old note 5... at a bar with co-worker. he dares me to put it in backwards. i foolishly did. got stuck. was able to remove it after some force and playing around. works, but phone has no detection of in/out as expected. called ATT and their sending me a replacement. had the rep state on the record the pen was "stuck inside device, and now that it has been removed has broken phone-to-pen sync"
blah :-\

Lol, my story is similar to yours. I first read about the issue and didn't believe it could be that easy to render the spen useless. It was that easy. Customer support came through for me. Not a big issue anymore since there is a known easy way to fix.

I need to brick my unrooted phone into an unrepairable state! Help!

So I have a broken charger port on my HTC EVO 4G so I put it back to stock ROM and took it back to the store in hopes of having it replaced. However, the charger port being broken is not under warranty so they will not be able to replace it!
Can someone please give me a way to put my phone in a state where I would be able to replace it?

If you have TEP (total equipment protection) Then sprint will repair it free for ya. If you do not have TEP itll cost ya $35. That, my friend, sounds like a better option than bricking your phone and having them still not replace it.
I got mine replaced when the 4G RSA Keys were "lost" (obviously through my own failure to backup before a root process). They replaced in no questions asked. That would be an easier way of "breaking" the phone without making it useless, in the event they still don't take it back.
Well you have hboot to work with. It does seem easier to try another sprint store.
Wtf? They replaced mine for broken charger port with a new phone under warranty. Said it would take two days to get me a new phone but arrived in the mail the next day.
Sounds like you need to go back and not talk to the janitor about your charging port.

I used to take out the battery and put my phones in the microwave for 10 seconds (or until it looked like something was going to start on fire or explode) then slip the batt back in and take it to the store.
If others have been successful with the same problem, I'd try a different Sprint store.

On the microwave issue, you already have a damaged phone, dont add housefire to your list of problems, just pull the battery during an ruu(broken port. forgot. use the PCIMG.zip file.) update or something, or take it to another Sprint store, my store doesnt even look me twice when I take my rooted bricks for replacements.

just the thought of doing something like that.......
why dont you just "lose it" and tell them you lost your phone and they should replace it... if you have the protection plan that covers that. but like the other guys said, just go in and demand a replacement, if the charging port doesn't work, then the phones pretty much useless. so they pretty much have too replace it.

I would just try calling sprint directly or going to another store. If the phone is still under warranty i don't see how they can say not being able to charge the phone is not covered by the warranty.

[Q] Need advice on replacement

Morning all!!
I need your advice on getting my 4G Touch replaced. My wife and I purchased both our E4GT on December of last year and it looks like mine needs repair or replaced. We did not opt for the insurance which is my issue.
My accelerometer is not functioning correctly so it can no longer tell how I'm holding it anymore and rotates any way it feels like. I have disabled screen rotation, but that doesn't help with the camera app. Most of the time it takes pictures sideways or upside down. I know it's not a software issue as I have run multiple roms and even set it back to a factory rom (unrooted) and still does this.
I have a couple of months left on the one year warranty, but I cannot send it in for repair as, like most folks, I need this phone every day and can't go without it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!!
Take it to a local Sprint repair center if its able to be repaired they usually get it done in several hours and if it needs to be replaced they order a new one and give your phone back until it arrives. They may charge you $39 though
I assume you have tried a sensor calibration?

Make sure you unroot before taking it in. If they have to replace it its $35 granted that there is no liquid damage or corrosion in the charging port.

Yeah for sure. ATT brought that to my attention REAL FAST when I messed up my last phone. But wouldn't that be a warranty issue?
Just wondering, why can you not send it in for warranty repair if you still have a couple months left?

It's not that I can't, it's just that my wife and I are looking to buy a house right now. My realtor is calling/texting me sometimes 3 or 4 times a day about seeing a home. In this market, you have to be fast to view one or it might go pending before I get a chance to look and make an offer.
My wife has choose not to deal directly with our realtor and that leaves me as the point-of-contact....go figure!!
I have unrooted and odin'd a stock rom and have an appointment at noon today with my local repair center. I will let ya know how that went. I know there is no water damage as I take very good care of my phone, so it shouldn't be an issue with the warranty.

[Q] need some help going back to stock

OK so i know this info is scattered around, but frankly i am a little confused at this point. i'll start with my situation.
i'm running slick ricks AOKP JB rom. i was on build three for very long, skipping several updates until milestone 1.2. i did a dirty flash (right over build three) and it seemed to work, until i started to have battery issues. my phone would die if i used it for more than a minute anywhere under 60%, and was unable to power back on. upon plugging it in, the battery started charging right back up from 60% or whatever percentage it died at. i blame my dirty flash. i upgraded to 1.3 and it's even worse, it dies anywhere under 90% now.
so, i was thinking i need to just bite the bullet and start from el26 with cwm. but i started to get confused at about this point. if i'm using a jellybean rom, do i need to use "JB Touch-Wiz Based Kernels" or is it okay to flash from el26?
second, it has been very very long since i had to go back to stock and i was just gonna try and start from el26 and see how it went, without bothering yall. i clicked on the link in the sticky thread w/ all the kernels and get redirected to a new repository. can someone confirm that this section is what i want to be using? and the oneclick exes are probably most dummy proof, yes?
thanks in advance guys. i was never very pro at this, and now i'm just in need of some clarification.
edit:
knew i was missing something... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903252 flashing now and i'll report back.

Before you do anything else please pull the battery and try to spin it on a flat surface.
$100 says it spins... and all your problems are due to a bad battery.
Exchange it, replace it.. and those problems will go away.

wow i have been wanting to just throw my phone at a wall for like 2 weeks now. it does spin, and it's noticably bloated looking and i never even thought to look at it like that... but yea it spins on both sides. my extra is totally flat. that's amazing.
edit:
so i pay the 8 bux a month or whatever, on my bill, thru sprint for the warranty. is the battery covered? anyone know if its worth going to a store to try and get a free replacement?

Go in and show them it spins. Any store supporting TEP should replace it for free. If you have time call ahead and make sure you get that same answer as well as a name to hold accountable. Should avoid most hassles that way.

just reporting in 24 hours later, my spare battery has no issues. it's very likely i never had to go thru the hassle of going back to stock. i'm on slick's 1.3 build again and happy happy happy. hopefully this info helps out anyone else with bizarre power issues. i'm going to go into a sprint shop over the weekend and see if i can't get a free replacement for the samsung battery, i'll let y'all know how that goes.

Backwards spen insertion?

Has anyone ever done it on their note 4?
it does go in pretty easy. idk why, on youtube when i watched, it cant fit, mine does, i didnt try it all the way bc i was scared, but when i put it in a little, it gives me notification sped detached and inserted.. does yout fit in easy? thanks
Take heed; the power of suggestion is powerful on this one. Don't go dark side.
The funniest reply I read on the subject was that, "Samsung can't make this idiot-proof because someone else will make a better idiot!"-LOL.
How many people reading this never even thought of backwards install and tried it anyway? We should really just take others at their word. It is possible but don't do it; you could seriously break the usability of the S-Pen but only have yourself to blame for it.
Cannot believe one editor done this on a Note 5 test loaner and begged Samsung for a response. May as well admit it, you're a bigger idiot than Samsung imagined possible if you can't resist the temptation to find out for yourself and don't know when to stop. Better to not start in the first place; let the examples already given suffice an answer.

For those wondering, this shows exactly what happens when it goes in wrong on the Note 5. That little plastic finger gets caught on the pointlessly fancy new removal mechanism. If the new S-Pen didn't have that thing on the back end of it, there wouldn't be anything for the plastic lever to catch (and break off) on.

Here's where the skipped generation design proof of reliability gets my attention. I liked the idea because it meant the huge notch in case backs could be removed for appearance's sake. My wife being an iPhone fan, that excessive case cutout was the only thing that got her attention when I got the Note 4-my first Note.
Now there's a year to determine the fallout and improve on next generation or nix it for the better. Same for the sealed case vs removable cover for ExtSdCard and replaceable battery. Watching the verdicts with interest; glad I skipped this generation.

From Reddit, here's one way to fix the problem that makes sense. The other idea floating around (make the head bigger) wouldn't work because you couldn't press it in to click it. This fix would work, but it would be pretty odd looking having 2 gaps where the top is flush with the phone.

I almost did it once on my Note 3 my first day with it. Almost. Caught myself and knew it likely wouldn't be good if it got stuck. Haven't done it since and watch what I'm doing whenever I put the pen back. If I ever need to move to the Note 5 that diligence will pay off.

Brilliant solution. I hope all the carriers have been trained in this procedure. They're going to be using.
The crying (of foul or otherwise) is coming from those who tried to force it out and broke their device or are trying to drum up hits for their site.

Display issues vertical green lines N10+ Unlocked

Already experiencing hardware issues with the display of my Note 10+ Unlocked 256GB Aura Glow that I bought directly from Samsung.com.
I received my device Aug 21, and two days ago 2 green vertical lines appeared on the left side of my screen, right where the screen bends. Never dropped this phone, just appeared when I was checking my emails. The vertical lines do not go away when the screen is on. Even went in the boot menu to clear the cache, and the lines are just constantly present. (Picture attached)
Getting the run around from Samsung that's super disappointing. I called Samsung.com first, and they were wanting me to send my device in so they can try to repair it. Leaving me phoneless for up to 10 days.... Since I traded in my spare phone, Note 9 to get that 600 discount. I told them that's unacceptable, then remembered I also purchased Samsung Premium Care. So they told me to call them, but mentioned I may have to pay to get a replacement on a frickin phone not even a month old... So I called Premium Care, and they are unsure of the situation, and have to work with Samsung.com in getting this defective device warrantied.
So they gave me a claim # and told me they will contact me in the next few days with a plan... I'm so disappointed with Samsung over this situation. Just wanted to share this info in case this display issue happens to someone else. Will update on how Samsung is going to take care of their defective device.
Anyone else have experience getting their devices warrantied when purchased directly from Samsung.com?

I'd go through whatever wireless service you're using like T-mobile, Verizon, etc, talk to a supervisor if you don't get anywhere with a regular representative....and see if they can do anything. It's so damn ridiculous what you're going through. If your mobile provider can't do anything, then I would call your bank or whatever credit card you charged through and file a dispute against the charge, tell them what all is going on and that Samsung refuses to do anything and send the thing back and then go get one at Best Buy or something. I've heard nothing but horror stories with Samsung.com and going through Samsung to buy directly from them.
OP purchased the phone directly from Samsung.com, as stated in the first sentence. How is the carrier involved in this? I would call Samsung, speak to manager and request new phone be send to me and return old one after receiving replacement. I would probably give them my CC as a warranty that I will send the phone back, instead of keeping both. Another option would be to buy some cheap phone (I've seen some for less than $100) and use it as backup. I keep my old Note3 as a backup for years and actually needed to use it on at least 4 different occasions and it still works great. The last option maybe look for Samsung store or service place in the area and deal with them in person?
Thank you for the reply. That's a good idea, return it and buy one from Best Buy. I really wish I kept my Note 9, I did wait until the last day to mail it out just in case. I got the unlocked version since I'm in the process of switching from T-Mobile to Spectrum Mobile because they use Verizon's network and it's only $14/mo if I go by the gig since I tend not to use much data since I keep everything downloaded on my phone. Especially since T-Mobiles network is unbearable in my area. I will give Apple credit with being able to just walk in the store with an issue.
I use to run Google Nexus devices until Pixel came out with their subpar 1st phone. I was so pissed I bought a iPhone the next day haha. When I had hardware issues they just swapped my iPhone. However I got tired of them after a couple years and missed android. So I went Note ever since without any issues until now (N8 & N9 were flawless). My Grandma is still using my Nexus 5 (LG), and my Mom is using my Nexus 6 (Motorola) still today. Sorry for the ramble lol.

Thanks man, I totally forgot there's a store near me inside one of the Best Buy's. I'll stop by and just see if he can do anything. Yeah may just need to get a cheapo to use, depending what I hear back from Samsung Premium Care.

Going to Samsung store is probably best option, because he can verify right then and there the phone is defective and needs to be replaced under warranty? But I never had warranty issues with any of my phones, so no personal experience in "how it should work" against "how it actually works"

Yeah definitely, I'll post back what I find out. That would be so nice just to swap out on the spot. I also found out I have a authorized repair shop in my state of Ohio. However it's like 90mins away... FML haha
