LG root guide - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to root my G3 and install a custom ROM. I once did it with TWRP and followed a guide in a thread. But I can't seem to find that thread with all the steps in it. Can anyone please help me find it? Thanks

Someone told me to use this tool to root my phone about a month ago: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/tool-dp-root-tool-to-root-lg-devices-t3075007
It was fast, easy and it needs just a windows pc. Kinda boring after all
After the root, you need Autorec app for your device https://play.google.com/store/search?q=lg%20g3%20autorec&c=apps&hl=it
The Autorec app will install TWRP, so you will need only to do a backup of your device and then flash the rom you like.
Hope this can help you

Check out Ioroot25. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232
and then after that, Autorec will install TWRP for you. http://www.droidviews.com/install-twrp-recovery-on-lg-g2-running-android-4-4-2-kitkat/
you may get a white line issue when unlocking device after the flash, you will just need to use TWRP to flash the jdi kernal, whcih can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51974589&postcount=281

To root from stock (either 4.2.2 or 4.4.2) use ioroot (I'll attach the version I used for my LS980).
After you're rooted (verify with the Root Checker on Android Play Store or by Terminal Emulator >
Code:
su
Download FreeGee Free from the Google Play Store.
Open FreeGee, let it download the device list, then tap "Backup EFS" I HIGHLY Recommend This, as if you lose your EFS it's nearly impossible to get it back!
After your EFS is backed up, tap on TWRP or CWM, whichever you prefer (Team Win Recovery Project, or ClockWork Mod Recovery).
Now you're all set -- rooted and with a custom recovery installed. For more information about flashing ROMs, look here or ask me. The Sprint G2 is touchy with flashing ROMs with the new update.

[Q] First timer

I've been checking up on custom ROMs for the LG G3 F400k for a while and now that Lollipop has released and there are roms with Lollipop out there, I've decided to try and use a custom rom on my phone.
I've looked at the huge guide threads but it's just really overwhelming for me lol, can't seem to find what I want/need.
Phone: LG G3 F400K
Android Version: 4.4.2
Software Version: F400k10u
Rooted: Never
So I wish to do the following:
1. Create a full backup of everything thats on my phone - So if something goes wrong, I can revert back to what I had
2. Put CloudyG3 2.0 ROM on my phone, as it supports F400K
3. Possibly add a custom kernel
Now what programs do I need to complete all the above tasks? If possible, it would be really nice if you can provide me with links to guides that will help me do exactly what I wrote above.
Thanks in advance!

First of all you have to ROOT your device with either Stump Root ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/root-stump-root-lg-g3-sprint-verizon-t2850906 ) or PurpleDrake ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/root-root-lg-g3-easily-purpledrake-lite-t2821000 )
Then you have to download to your device the right TWRP img for F400K from this Thread Bump! ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-...mp-unlock-lg-g3-twrp-d852-d852g-f400-t2900614 ). Scroll down and find the download link and choose F400K. Flash this with Flashify, an app that you can download for free from Play Store, it needs root permission.
You now have Custom recovery and are ready for flashing. Enter TWRP Custom Recovery and before doing anything else go to Backup and check everything. I suggest using an SD Card here, so for storage select external sd card.
There's this guy that made a youtube video for all of this, go check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-jXW89uD4o
Good Luck.
Thank you! In the meantime I figured it out, it wasn't easy because there is a lot of outdated info out there, so hard to find the things I actually needed but this is what I end up doing:
installed adb, rooted with purpledrake, installed a bunch of required apps,, like supersu busybox, etc and right now I'm doing an online nandroid backup with twrp recovery.
I hope that this is the last thing I have to do before I can move on to the ROM part.
After I got the rom I still need to figure out how to get all my sms/app/contacts data on the newly installed ROM
Thanks for your reply btw, much appreciated!

[Q] Install CyanogenMod on LG G3 d855

Hi,
Sorry if this is a silly question. How do I go about installing CyanogenMod on the d855? I had a OnePlus One and had to return it due to a fault but loved CyanogenMod and want to use it on the G3.
I rooted the phone and installed bump as I believed this was the only way to install TWRP on this device. However I realised i could only installed Bump'd ROMS . I therefore put it back to stock as I want to use the official install. How do I go about installing this? I may have the wrong end of the stick. Any help to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.
I am sorry if I am asking a daft question, this is all new to me, please help
Thanks
Root via Purpledrake > Install TWRP via Bump! method > Install CM12 .zip
That's the only way, and the good way. Google on how to install TWRP via Bump!. Links are seriously right here on XDA. Bump! in in the OG Dev section with a very clear explanation.

Thanks for your reply. I managed to root and install bump and I then tried the install from the CyanogenMod website which didn't work. This is where I am struggling. I wanted to use the official install.

Get your .zip file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-official-nightly-t2995524
Nightly information can be found on here: http://www.cmxlog.com/12/d855/
Idk what you mean by official install, the zip in the thread is official.

You can also just flash the TWRP.img with Flashify when once rooted.

Flashify.. God.. If you're using flashifhy and something happens, you're on your own. Only an idiot who is incompetent of using a few adb commands use spoonfed programs like Flashifhy. I never, and especially to newbies, suggest the use of Flashify.
Please OP, for the sake of solving your own problems: stay 10 foot away from programs like Flashify.

Dude are we talking about the same Flashify? It works perfectly for flashing and backup/restore of recovery`s and kernels in .img format. Can`t imagine users having issues with it unless unless for the incompetent idiots you we`re refering to
At my friend's G3. I suggest to flash it with Flashify and He hadn't got any problem. It's easier for newbies flashify, OP you can go for it

Rooting Stock ROM

Guys,
I need help regarding root of Stock ROM Lollipop. 5.0.
I unlocked boot loader, flashed twrp recovery but when it comes to flash rooting tools (Android revolution hd rooting tool) it does not flash and does not root the ROM. In recovery it says failed/ unable to mount cache ...
Am I doing something wrong or it the zip file which may not be compatible with stock rom?
Do you guys have any zip file which can root stock rom or the best would be if there is any rom already rooted but not modified. I like to stick to stock rom but want to get rid of bloatware.
I appreciate any advice, help or solution which may you provide to me.
Please do not ask me to search on google or XDA because I already did it and bother many people in the specific forums. As a result that they could not provide me with the solution I was forced to write in Help& Troubleshooting forum.
all the best,

Don't use a tool.
Download the update SuperSU.zip from here and flash it in recovery.
After the flash, find SuperSU in your app drawer and open it. You will be prompted to update binaries. Do that.
That's it. You are rooted.

I second that. The tool used by the OP is probably not updated to work on Lollipop.
Also, OP should make sure to run an updated version of TWRP (2.8.7) as anything but the last few (several?) versions of TWRP will not work on the Lollipop hboot.

You need to root before you install TWRP. Be sure to root with CF-Auto-Root. After that, you can find TWRP for your device here: https://dl.twrp.me/hlte/
Thank you very much. Now do I root through oden or by memery card?

To flash with CF-Autoroot, you flash it with Odin. You can find detailed instructions on how to root here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672393
You can skip the first step and just follow the steps on how to flash with CF-Autoroot and how to flash TWRP
Follow instructions carefully
Good luck!
Root is not required to flash TWRP. You can flash TWRP from Odin and then flash supersu from TWRP to root the phone.
Rooting with cfautoroot will not install a custom recovery.

Be sure to have downloaded the correct cf-autoroot for N900T. Should be named something like this: "CF-Auto-Root-hltetmo-hltetmo-smn900t"
Thank you for the help you have been giving me. I was able to root my phone once I got the correct file. I have also installed twrp . Now I just need to find a good ROM to mess around with.

Glad to help. There are pretty good ROMs out there. I would suggest getting a Note7 port, since not only you get a newer version of Android, you get the very specific Note features which are awesome! Happy flashing!
