Hello,
if you really want to install Android apps on your phone, but your phone is not supported, this is the right place (only lumias)
1. First, go to Settings/Update & security/For developers and turn on Developer mode
2. Now, download and deploy via Windows Phone Power Tools (link, if you still do not have this tool) this useful tool.
3. Run Root tool, click "Yes", "Lumia Registry Editor"
4. Check "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, "String", in "Path" write
Code:
SYSTEM\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo
and change this keys:
Code:
PhoneFriendlyName = Lumia 730
PhoneHardwareVariant = RM-1040
PhoneManufacturerModelName = RM-1040_1081
PhoneModelName = Lumia 730
(if you want, you can save original keys to notebook or .txt file)
5. Now, restart your phone and check updates. You should have avaible update "Developer Enchancements"
6. Wait for download complete, and install it (5-10 min.)
7. Done! You can sideloading (via adb) Android apps
You can back to original keys if you saved them in 4. step

I admit, I testing it on 240, but I think that it should also work on 512

Didn't work for me on 10166 build on my L1320.
Got no developer enhancement update on slow ring & only got 10512 build update on fast ring.
From what I read you can only get Project Astoria files on non-supported devices by updating to 10166 build from WP 8.1 with modded values. I might be wrong there.

No, it also worked without upgrading from 8.1 to 10166 with modded vales, It worked on clear 10166 and 10240 (clear = after hard reset) Lumia 735 and I change the keys as I wrote and everything worked very well; I think Microsoft probably removed "Developer Enchancements" from Windows Update. I very much regret that I did not put earlier this thread, and I should remove this thread from XDA forum (but I don't know how yet )

There has been a thread about this for a while on the Windows Phone 8 general. http://forum.xda-developers.com/win...apk-installed-unsupported-devices-sd-t3175843
Basically, you need to go back to Windows Phone 8.1, and then modify the registry before updating to Windows 10 Mobile. This will put the AOW files on your phone properly.

Weird. Maybe it's a slow ring thing, then. I have a 525 myself, and the only way I could do it was by going back to 8.1. But I was on fast ring. Never thought of trying slow ring.

Have been tested multiple times, only in slow ring will you receive the update.
Is not working, tryed 3 times on luma 640 xl.
Tried this on the Lumia 640 (Not the XL) and still could not get it to work, after going back to 8.1, changing the Registry, then to 101066 build (I think) then to update, and it started downloading the 10512 build....
Going to just wait some more for PA to come to the 640...

I recently gave the Twitter world a tease of Skype UWP running on my Lumia 1520 on Redstone (WHICH IS THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENT. If you're on 10586 or Release Preview.. It's not going to work) and promised to share with the world. Without further ado, I present..... PACKAGES.
I'll be updating this regularly with links to the official Skype UWP packages that support W10M.
Instructions:
Before downloading the appxbundle, go to Settings -> Update & Security -> For developers and enable Developer mode (may work with Sideload apps, but I never tried). Copy the package to the phone and open it from the File Explorer. Install then enjoy. You can also upload the package from the Device Portal also, if you feel well inclined to.
NOTE: You MUST be running a Redstone build. If you try this on a non-Redstone build and you complain that it doesn't work, I'm going to steal your soul.
If you are installing via File Explorer, wait for it to complete even though it looks like nothing happened. Using the Device Portal is easier because you see the entire progress of the upload and install.

Yeah, the performance is BEAUTIFUL. One thing you may have to watch out for is that sometimes when you open the app, it will sit at the splash screen then die. Other than that, the performance is just awesome.

Unable to install on my Lumia 950 XL running the latest build 14356. I am receiving the error "Can't Install app - There's a problem with this app. Check the package, or contact the person who gave it to you for help." when I tap on the file in the file explorer. I have tried uninstalling the old skype app, restarting, verifying my build and that the device is in developer mode and even tried re-downloading the app package. Any other ideas?

Latest build, L930, same error.
Try using the Device Portal and uploading the app to your phone from a desktop. I'm also running 14356 on my 1520.

Just a heads up, you can also install the app on your PC. It's so much better than the official preview. Still needs A LOT of polishing though, the hamburger button is making me crazy.

Probably, there should be a big red warning, like
YOU CAN'T DOWNGRADE THIS TO A STABLE BUILD
So, I've successfully installed the app, but it crashed constantly. So, I uninstalled it and tried to install a stable skype from the store. But, Store tried to install skype preview instead of stable skype, and it obviously can't. It just hangs on "Starting download" or "Error, see details", and store now keeps showing me 0x80240024 or 0x8013153b for almost everything - it can't search for any apps, can't show anything but "Home", etc. Skype sticks in download queue forever and can't be removed from here (reboot doesn't help).
Edit: turns out that the store app is still functional, except that an empty entry with only "error, see details" is now always present in download queue in store app, and I have 2 entries of skype preview in all apps list, one of which is pending. Still can't downgrade to stable version though.
Edit2: Skype preview is much more stable after reinstall, but doesn't display my big chats (>40 people). Looks like the bug which was here since the very first messaging + skype app, when the app crashed trying to open that chat, and in later versions it just didn't show it. Microsoft, do something with that, it's a shame :/

Redstone builds are in the Insider Fast and Insider Slow. Release Preview and Production are on the TH2 branch.

So, after install, I attempted to uninstall, which appeared to work as expected. However, when attempting to download the official release of Skype, I get an error; additionally, the start screen shows that it is trying to install Skype Preview, which is obviously incorrect.
Is there a workaround here?

I tried to install Windows 8.1 using Lumia Phone Test Application, wich worked, but when I update to Windows 10 again I receive the last version without Astoria support. Anyone can help me?
I'm trying to install APK using that Easy Purple Drag an Drop APK Installer Tool, wich I can't remember the exactly name now but I'm sure you fellows know wich one is, and it's return this error: �There was a problem booting the Astoria platform on the Windows device. Error code = 14�.

There's a thread on Windows Phone 8.1 forums about that build you want. Find it. Only for Lumias 930, 640 and his XL bro
dude seriously -> even if you get it running somehow with updating from cab files under 8.1 to 10240. IT SUCKS!!!! 99% of all android apps dont even work, the 1% which works works very bad and the os itself will run like **** cause its an early preview! just forget about it, its not worth wasting any time on it

Yes there are a couple of easy ways to get Android Apps on Windows Phone 8 / 8.1 devices running. Note: This is NOT possible on Windows 10 Mobile devices.
1. For the Lumia 640, 640 XL and Lumia 930 there is a 10240 ROM. You can very easily flash that ROM to your device. With that version you are able to install and use Android Apps on your Windows Phone.
2. If you have Windows Phone 8.1 installed on your device you can directly update to either 10166 or 10536. With either build you're able to install and use Android Apps. Note: this is available for the HTC M8, Lumia 930, 1520, 1020, 635.

I am always looking forward this. Hope Asroria will be back to Windows Mobile since MS has abandoned its own OS. My 1020 is now only my photography backup.

what do you use to update to that specific build? I have done a factory reset on 8.1. will WDRT allow me to install to a specific build? Where can I get these specific builds? Lastly, can I prevent it from further updates?

it's not as easy as it used to be. The problem is, Microsoft deactivated the Insider App. Without enrolling in the insider programm first, you can't upgrade to preview builds, because those are flight / development signed.
i have a lumia 540 which should be sufficient for doing what everyone else is achieving.
I then went to "for developers" and enabled "developer mode" and enabled device discovery.
I used the program wconnect;

It has been said several times you can't install Astoria anymore on recent builds. The kernel needs to be customized in order to make possible install the packages again, it requires a lot of work

Call recording works last time I checked. Is the app not installed or not selectable (Voice Recorder)? The phone app uses the built in voice recorder to record phone calls. You might just need to enable the registry keys for it and select the app, did you try that for that feature?
As far as getting Astoria to work, just google it, that is how I found the FFU for the 640 XL...or buy an android phone if you must have android apps. It will go much smoother that.

I have partially been following another forum that was working to boot loader unlock the Idol 4s for Windows 10 mobile. I don't think this ROM was a result of that, but do you know of any other news?

No, I have not tested it. I have IDOL4S Open from Microsoft.
You can mention that there is a provxml file to install Yandex.Search.appxbundle in the IDOL4S_6071W_F1052.16.09031.50700_Open_RTM_10.0.15 254.490_Custom ROM. It is not in the T-Mobile ROM though.
This is a useful scenario too for some of us who might want to Edit the registry on the IDOL 4s outside of the current changes in these ROMs. Mount the bin file save the edits and flash the changes. Do you know if making changes such as reg edits would require an altered or updated rawprogram0.xml? Thanks.

I don't know what you're trying to say. The layout of the sections does not change, the size of the sections does not change. Why should change rawprogram0.xml. Data in rawprogram0.xml is taken from GPT, these are rawprogram0.xml is best for this ROM.

Replacement ADC only in ROM F1052.16.09031.50700_Open_RTM. ROM F1050.14.08011.53400_TMOUS_Retail is initial, this replacement was not made.

Sorry my fault. It has been a while since working with qc loaders and program xml files. For some reason I was thinking rawprogram0.xml contained the space used by the partitions not the whole partition size.

I am having an issue on the custom ROMs being able to sign in with my Microsoft account while setting up the phone. It either locks up/freezes the set up process, or fails. I think it fails while checking account info and it never pulls the backups to restore. Ultimately the account will be signed in but can only move forward after skipping the step entirely to be able to set up the rest of the phone.
Is this just me or have you noticed an issue?

It's not a bug, but a feature Only in custom ROM F1050.14.08011.53400_TMOUS_Retail. Associated with reset protection packets. They are in this firmware test. So it will be with the official ROM F1050.14.08011.53400_TMOUS_Retail, if you update it above 15063.2.

What is being tested exactly?
I need to be able to restore a backup on the IDOL 4s. If I can't then certain apps don't function at all.

On the versions above 15063.2 reset protection is activated automatically by logging into your account, with no choice of disabling it. And in this firmware of packets of protection against reset in MainOS is not present.

I'm sorry I did not word that so you understood. I meant why is your custom ROM set as an older firmware? The fw revision of the T-Mobile firmware is older than the official production one on most phones. I am assuming you used this version to customize a ROM for some reason.

Well yes of course! One would have their work cut out for them if they did not have to manually build those items into a ROM on their own. Was hoping maybe you had plans to incorporate those items into an updated or different firmware if possible. One that would allow restoring of a backup, and had reset protections bugs fixed . No worries about that though, was only wishful thinking.

This is already included in the custom ROM IDOL4S_6071W_F1052.16.09031.50700_Open_RTM_10.0.15254.490.

Ok I will try it out again. I thought I tried to restore a backup on Both ROMs and failed to with the same bug.
For some reason on the Open market Custom ROM the ndtk packages are not active after flashed or not working. Maybe it is just me but I can't edit the registry, enable Interop services or full file system access from Interop Tools until I send the packages again even though they are there. Plus I have to make other changes to it as well for T-mobile nvi settings.

The Open market Custom ROM should not have this error with backup recovery.

Again download a Open market Custom ROM, 16.07.2018 it was updated, this error was eliminated.

Ah ok that explains it. I had no idea you corrected this...
New Issues on Idol 4S using custom ROM
Installed TMOUS version of this custom ROM (Thank you OP for your efforts!) on August 8 and was delighted to uninstall the remaining VR apps. As nate0 posted earlier, I couldn't sign in during the initial setup, and was not able to restore earlier backups as expected. Phone is TMOUS retail locked (so far - longtime TMO customer awaiting billing cycles on this phone for unlock code).
Since then M$ has updated the OS build to 10.0.15254.527. Things keep breaking faster than I can keep track of - and not sure which are a function of 1) the custom ROM, 2) the Idol 4S, or 3) Microsoft desire to chase us away. New issues include:
Amazon - crashes at launch
Microsoft Wallet (v. 2.3.17311.0) - allowed me to scan 1 loyalty card successfully, then refuses to recognize/scan codes,
"CameraAccessDenied" error message
Flashlight (v. 4.0.0.0 Sakariya) - no longer can turn led on/off (Flashlight XT still works fine)
People (v. 10.2.2001.1000) - live tile stopped working after about a week, can't get it to work at all anymore
Translator (v. 4.8.7.0) - live tile works for about 1 day, then remove, disable/enable to restore function for another day
Microsoft Store - (v. 11807.1001.13.0) - live tile works for about 1 day, then same as Translator
My Library this morning shows about 1/3 of my apps that were listed last week ???
