Easiest way back to scratch? - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
Can someone help me to get back to scratch?
I want the OTA update. (Software update 2.10.401.1 (831.88MB))
The phone is unlocked, rooted, stock ROM, I have deleted some default apps. S-ON. And I do not have any backup to restore from.
I have read a hell lot of post, but I can't figure out what way is the best for me. I have tried to flash Stock recovery, but can't update OTA.
After what I can read I might need to flash an RUU?
Can some help me to what I need to do, and in with order?
(And eventually link to correct RUU, if needed)
Note: I'm a Linux user
Note: I have an idea, that i might be the best solution to start from scratch. (Correct me if you think I wrong) So I can make a backup before rooting, and so on.
I have backup, of all my personal stuff, so a complete wipe, would not be a problem.
My phone is:
Code:
*** Software status: Modified ***
*** Unlocked ***
*** S-ON ***
Code:
htc_himauhl PVT S-ON
LK-1.0.0.0000

OS-1.40.401.8
May 27 2015,22:14:34(549783)
Code:

Either you flash a RUU or you restore a backup. Both can be found in my signature. Instructions how to use the backups can be found there, too.
Since you're using Linux and I never tried to use adb or fastboot with that OS I would suggest you to use the SD card method if you choose the RUU. Connect the SD card to your pc, copy the RUU to the root directory of a SD card that is not bigger than 32gb and formated to "fat32". Rename it to "0PJAIMG.zip" (that's a zero not an O), put it back into your phone and boot to Download Mode. Then follow the instructions on the screen. If your phone boots to system instead of rebooting to Download Mode during the process you just need to power your phone off and boot to Download Mode manually. The flashing process will then continue automatically.

Hi. Thanks
I'm think to use the RUU and SD methold then.
But a few questions before I start.
Bootloader: locked, unlock or does not matter?
Recovery: Stock, TWRP nad eventually should it be a speciffic version?
And just for a note on adb/fastboot on linux (Kubuntu in my case) it's quite easy:
INSTALL
Eventually install repository, if it's missing:
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:phablet-team/tools && sudo apt-get update
Install adb and fastboot:
Code:
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
Then use it as on windows. But instead of moving files to folders i reference it directly like:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /home/myUserName/m9/Recovery_1.40.401.8.img

If you use the SD card method the state of your bootloader doesn't matter (at least from my experiences). The recovery doesn't matter, either, since it's going to be overwritten by the stock recovery that is provided by the RUU.

[RUU][GUIDE][AT&T][S-OFF][2.09.502.3] Return Your AT&T EYE Back To 100% Stock.!!!
This guide will allow you to return your AT&T , HTC Desire EYE device to 100% stock (inc. locking the bootloader and removing the tampered flag ) for resale purposes or to return to HTC.. Or to be up to date with firmware, or to even take latest OTA's without a HICKUP... It does require you to be S-OFF for some methods...... Step 4 can work on s-on phone longs you have the correct CID, Stock Recovery, Relocked Bootloader.
This process applies to the following CIDs:
CWS__001
11111111
Please Don't Continue if you dont know what your doing.!!!!!
Downloads:
Rom.zip - MEGA
Stock Recovery - MEGA
HTC Sync Manager - htc.com ( (install it for the drivers and then uninstall it but leave the drivers on your PC)
1. Change the CID (if required)(S-OFF NEEDED)
Now we're in the bootloader and we are S-OFF, it's best we reset the CID so moving forward things are easy. To do this, you just need to use
Code:
fastboot oem writecid CWS__001
Or whichever CID your device originally came with from the list at the beginning of this guide. Once you've reset the CID, reboot the bootloader to confirm the changes using
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
2. Flashing Stock Recovery
This is probably not needed , but i myself do this just in case. To flash recovery , please use this command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery desire-eye_recovery.img
3. Relocking BootLoader
We need to relock bootloader in order to proceed with this guide. To relock bootloader please boot phone into bootloader and then selecting fastboot.. Now enter this command
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Then enter command
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Confirm that bootloader says **RELOCKED**
4. Flashing the RUU
Their Are 2 Methods On Flashing RUU with Seperate Each Method.
*S-On - Need to Have Stock Recovery, Correct CID , And Relocked Bootloader
**S-Off - Needs Stock Recovery, Original CID or SuperCID, Relocked Bootloader
Method 1 : ( Works with S-On and S-Off)
We are now at the point where we can flash the RUU and restore the phone to 100% stock. To do this, we first need to boot the phone into RUU mode using the command
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Once in RUU mode, you'll see a silver HTC logo on the phone and that's it. At this point, we now use fastboot commands to flash the rom.zip file using the command
Code:
fastboot flash zip rom.zip
This process will take a few minutes, and the phone will reboot a few times but once done it'll say complete. At this point, reboot the phone back to the bootloader using
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Method 2 : ( Works with S-On And S-Off )
Download rom.zip
Once rom.zip is done downloading, we now need to move it to your external SDcard
Rename rom.zip too "0PFHIMG.zip"
Reboot into Hboot, and as it's rebooting put the sdcard back in the phone. It should automatically detect the RUU file and flash it.
5. Factory reset the device *** OPTIONAL ***
Having flashed the RUU, I always prefer to do a factory reset to make sure everything is in order. To do this, boot into the stock recovery and once at the black screen hold volume up and press power to get into the menu and then select 'wipe data/factory reset' using the volume buttons and use power to select the option.
6. Reboot the phone)

Very good and usefull post for thoses who need it. Thanks for the continued support ans dedication to this device
Sorry, guys, i have some problems with it. I mean, I managed to complete all steps, and flashed the rom. But I cannot flash the firmware (maybe cuz my phone is S-On). And as a result (as I think, cuz I don't see any other option), cpu is overloaded, my phone is overheated, and battery is just melting.
I've read on M8 forum that S-On phones still can flash firmware, but only if it is signed... And, the flashing result (error 12 or 99 in fastboot), this one seems to be not signed.
Do you have any ideas how to flash it in my situation?
Anyway. thanks again for awesome stuff!

Mini, you rock. This firmware saved my device. I was trying to "debrand" my Desire EYE (UL_CA) variant, so that I could OTA to latest official Marshmallow, I flashed European 2.19 firmware and ROM, but I lost signal, the phone was stuck in Aeroplane Mode. Do you know if there is any way to "convert" my AT&T Eye into an international one? Of course I have S-OFF and SuperCID (or whichever CID I need).
If there's a way and you know it, could you please point me in the right direction? Thank you sooooo much.

@xXminiWHOOPERxX Hi, Im running into issues trying to get the ruu zip to run as well as the zip to change the firmware back to lollipop. I am s-off, relocked bootloader, and returned cid to CWS__001 for att. I even re-downloaded the zips and tried. Any help is greatly appreciated
@xXminiWHOOPERxX I have all your steps to return my att eye to stock. Everything goes fine, changed cid from super to cws__001. Flashed stock recovery, but can't get rom.zip or the firmware zip to flash. Followed each step as you have in thread. My only goal here is to get back on the lollipop firmware. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Once you have flashed the stock recovery, and re-locked your bootloader, you should be able to run the RUU update (.exe's). I was able to flash RUU_EYE[email protected]50528.2A_40.50.C33069.02_F_release_448671_signed_2 downloaded directly from HTC's Rom Download page.

Soft Brick No OS

Hello XDA,
I have an HTC one m8 in my possession which i am trying to unbrick but i'm having some issues.
The phone has custom recovery Philz
I have no SD card available to me at the moment
I have relocked the bootloader to try and run the RUU 'RUU_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_6.12.1540.4'
installer as part of my efforts to unbrick, but this doesn't work, the RUU installer gets stuck at 0% while 'Sending'.
Any help would be much appreciated
Not enough info. Do a fastboot getvar all, and post the results (be sure to delete IMEI and serial numbers, as these are private info).
In particular, need (at a minimum):
CID
MID
s-off or s-on
firmware (main) version
hboot number
radio number
Bootloader status (locked, relocked, unlocked)
Original version (CID, MID) if those numbers have been modified
Also, did you try the RUU just once, or multiple times? A number of folks have reported it hanging on sending, but then it will run properly on a subsequent attempt.
Thanks for the reply, here is all the information i could acquire.

The RUU you stated in the top post won't work (its the RUU for the Developer's Edition). The RUU needs to match your CID and MID, meaning you need the RUU for the Euro version, which doesn't have Marshmallow yet.
Best bet is to run the Lollipop RUU for the Euro version (4.16.401.10) which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
I have run the 4.16.401.10 RUU.exe but it just gets stuck at Updating...(0/7) Sending...
I have done done the prerequisites for running the RUU:
disabled antivirus, updated HTC drivers, run the RUU as admin
I checked that i have USB data communications with adb:

Try running it again. RUU is known to hang from time to time, then work on subsequent attempts.
If it still doesn't work, try another PC, as suggested above. Win7 and USB 2.0 have the best chance of success.
Or you can download the zip version, rename to 0P6BIMG.zip and put it on the phone. Reboot to bootloader, and it should install.

I managed to reach 1/7 through the RUU.exe and gave me a 155 error.
I don't have a Windows 7 computer avaliable to me only Windows 10.
I could try buying an SD card, putting the rom onto the SD card, unlock the bootloader and run the custom recovery again and try to install the from from the SD card?
It also appears there is TWRP and Philz recovery on this device, could this be the cause of any problems?

You can do that, but you'd have to use a Kitkat ROM, as your firmware is (old) Kitkat. And you would be stuck on the KitKat ROM until you updated the firmware.
I think its better to get the RUU to work, such as adb push the RUU zip to the phone's internal storage, and run in bootloader.

Its one or the other, you can't have both (TWRP and Philz) on the phone at the same time.
Do you mean, is it the cause of RUU not running? NO.
Hello,
The RUU.exe has made some progress and now hangs at 1/8 consistantly.

Actually, I'm realizing (reading in another thread) that the RUU zip needs to be on a removable SD, not on internal storage (haven't actually done it this way, I always use the RUU.exe).
From what I understand, put the 0p6bimg.zip on the SD card (as you mentioned, you will need to buy one) then boot into bootloader, and it will install.
Another alternative, you can apparently also fastboot flash the RUU:

A ROM or an RUU? What file exactly?
Post a screenshot of the adb commands and responses, if you can.
Hi again,
Went and got myself and SD card and put cm13 on it from which i've loaded the rom and got myself a working phone now.
I went ahead an ran the RUU after installing cm13 and the RUU ran perfectly.
It seems using the SD card was the best option for me.
Thanks Redpoint73 for all the help so far.
P.S it seems my m8 is a retail version as the stock rom i installed has a demo application that wipes the phone everyday, but this is an easy solution as i will just install another custom os or something. i just can't use stock. :<

What "stock ROM" are you referring to?
The ROM installed by the RUU you stated in Post #1 shouldn't be doing this.

[Q] Help Needed

Hi guys,
i seemed to have bricked my phone because all i can do is boot into bootloader, download mode, recovery mode. it has stock recovery and relocked bootloader.
i want it boot into android anyway possible stock or not. I can provide anydetails required about my phone. I have tried several RUUs and 0PJAIMG.zip files but nothing seems to be working.
For RUUs i get the error "Please get the correct Rom Update Utility and try again" and for 0PJAIMG.zip files my phone says "SD CARD NOT MOUNTED" in download mode. Please help me revive my phone and sorry for a long.
Thanks in Advance.
Edit: Even if anyone can link me to a x.xx.425.xx ruu, that would be great.

I assume your phone is S-ON. You can't downgrade or flash RUUs for different SKUs than 425.
The problem: There are only RUUs for firmware 1.34.425.7 and 1.34.425.8. So unless you don't have S-OFF you can't use them.

Did you try re-unlocking via HTCdev? The M9 has some security checks which prevent the phone from booting if the bootloader is locked/relocked and the phone is not completely stock. If that doesn't help you may need to look for someone with a java card.
For answering your second question I'm qoting myself from another thread:

But you need to pay if you want to download files from that site. Since I know someone who has an account I may be able to get one of the RUUs for you. (Can't guarantee anything.)

As far as I know the 1.34.425.7 RUU is getting uploaded on AFH at the moment. But as said before you won't be able to use it without S-OFF.

I can't re-unlock my phone i tried like 3 times already.
That would be great if you could upload the file and link it here...
There you go (thanks to Handy-FAQ.de). But as said before it's useless if you don't have S-OFF.
Edit: I guess the option OEM Unlock (located in developer options) hasn't been activated before you relocked the bootloader, am I right? That's why you can't re-unlock. But you could still look for someone who owns a java card to get S-OFF, use the RUU service on Llabtoofer's website or hope that someone creates and uploads a TWRP backup that contains an untouched system image, the boot image and the stock recovery of your currently installed firmware.

HTC M8 stuck in fastboot only showing RUU

Ok this is what happened.
I had the rom Android Revolution installed on my HTC M8.
Today I installed the new ROM Revolution, Android 6.0, but when I could not turn on wifi.
After searching in google found that its a MUST to update your firmware, which I have subsequently done true the PC with mini-sdk. That did not work, and now I'm stuck in fastboot. He won't let me into recovery anymore, if i chose it, he trows me back to fastboot menu

What exactly did you try to flash (full file name) and where did you get it from?
Any error messages when you tried to flash the firmware, or other outputs?

Yes, it would be signature verify fail. Its a hacked firmware (with stock recovery replaced with TWRP). You can't flash this with s-on. You can only flash signed firmware with s-on; and once its hacked, its no longer signed.
Additionally, its not the right version number for your CID. It would need to have "161" in the place of "401".
Your best bet is probably to return to full stock nandroid 2.22.161.6 and stock recovery 2.22.161.6, than OTA up to LP or MM. Instructions and required files here:

You need to unlock the bootloader again, in order to flash custom recovery.
Big relief i am in recovery again!
Actually back in my Android Revolution Rom , but without WIFI
Don't want to do anyting wrong again right now.
So next thing to do is folow the steps from your posted link #5?
Or do i have to do other things now?

You have to follow all the steps through Step 14.
Again, the goal is to return to full stock nandroid 2.22.161.6 and stock recovery 2.22.161.6, than OTA up to LP or MM
Can't get true this step:
6(a). Reboot, connect device to PC then
open Internal Storage - TWRP/BACKUPS/SerialNo./ (if backup is set to internal storage)
open SD Card - TWRP/BACKUPS/SerialNo./ (if backup is set to MicroSD)
6(b). For those with no OS, connect device to PC. In TWRP recovery go to mount, make sure MTP is enabled.
Then you can open Internal Storage - TWRP/BACKUPS/SerialNo./ (if backup is set to internal storage)
If i make a backup from Boot he puts is in internal store TWRP/BACKUPS/SerialNo./ but when i copy the unzip files he stops, too big.
solution might be: Are you mounting the MTP in recovery mode ? It won't work this way.
You need to transfer them on a working OS (I mean you have to be on homescreen)
Try use an external sdcard.
I have put an external sdcard inside, i can put the files on the card
But then the files aren't located at the TWRP/BACKUP map.
What to do?

when you select boot to backup, you can select which storage the backup goes to .. select microSD instead of internal (read all menu in the backup section on TWRP)
then you can use a card reader to mount your microsd to PC and transfer the extracted contents of the backup zip to the same folder that you made with the boot backup and replace all files when PC ask you.
All done, back in stock rom, thank you very much!!
10. In reboot menu select bootloader (when TWRP asks whether you want to root your device, select do not install)
I choose in this step do not install, but he rebooted me direct into the stock rom.
Tried some things to get into the bootloader again, volume down and power, cmd with adb fastboot, but nothing really worked.
What's the reason i can't get back to bootloader, and how do i get step 11 fixed and flash stock recovery?
To go to bootloader when on OS running ... press power button and select restart. When the screen turn black .. hold volume down button .. that will take you to hboot screen, press power once will get you to fastboot/bootloader
To go to bootloader when on OS running ... you need to enable USB debugging in settings - Developer options. To enable Developer options, go to settings - about - software information - more - click build number until the developer options is enabled.
Once usb debugging is enabled, you can run command adb reboot bootloader to get to fastboot/bootloader
It works, did the last step:
11. fastboot flash stock recovery that you downloaded - command fastboot flash recovery x.xxx.xx.x_recovery.img
but now can't entering recovery anymore, just showing a red trangle with an exclamation mark? And in some minutes he boots to OS.
Have to do step 1 again? Maybe go to a higher version? I want OTA to MM 6.0
You don't need to get into recovery after you installed stock recovery.
what you need to do ... boot to OS .. go to settings - about - software update - check for update, download and click install let the system do its stuff to update. After reboot, repeat the checking & install process.
And you need to do the checking & install, multiple times to update :
2.22.161.6 --> 4.19.161.2 --> 4.19.161.3 --> 6.12.161.4 --> done.

RUU ZIP File Error

I have purchased a HTC 10 from ebay the software won't update to oreo. I believe i need an stock ruu in order to reset it to the stock version and then i can update it to oreo. However i am new user and don't have much know how in stock and roms.
I I am trying to find the official ROM for the HTC 10 so i can update it to oreo. I have tried to look around the site before posting but i am an extreme noob. Do I need both firmware and RUU. I have gotten my fastboot getvar all data and will post below. I have tried to ask from help and a user did try to help they stated the following
"You don't need both the firmware and RUU, you only need the RUU. Be aware though that running the RUU will wipe your phone, so backup anything important to you.
Download this RUU.zip.
Rename it by deleting everything in the name of the .zip except for 2PS6IMG (and .zip of course)
Place that onto you extSD card (it needs to be on that, not internal storage) and boot to download mode (power off your phone and then boot it back up with holding both power + vol down)
You'll be updated to Oreo.( You don't need both the firmware and RUU, you only need the RUU. Be aware though that running the RUU will wipe your phone, so backup anything important to you."
( user :xunholyx).
However after following the steps i get an error message.
When i entered download mode it says press up to flash and i click ok i get an error message. The message states as follows:
12 RU_ZIP_ERROR
12 RU_ZIP_ERROR
FAIL 12 RU_ZIP_ERROR
To summarise i can't update my HTC 10. I believe i may need a stock RUU. I have gotten an error message from attempting to flash the RUU listed above. Is that the correct file or will i need another one. If possible could you please locate the correct file or point me into the right direction. I have S-ON and bootloader unlocked, i have an SD card. Thank you.
