[Q] Accidentally enabled feature that speaks out what each button is when I press it - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was prepping the tablet to sell it.
Did the factory reset.
Then when it booted back up to the "welcome to Samsung" screen, I somehow must have pressed a button that enabled some weird feature.
Now whenever I press a button, the tablet speaks out in a voice to let me know what that button is.
But that's all it does. None of the buttons actually do anything.
lol what did I enable? I spent some time and couldn't figure out how to disable it back to regular mode?
EDIT: As soon as I gave up and asked for help, I finally sort-of figured it out.
When you press a button and it tells you what the button is for (but nothing happens), you just double-tap the button and then the button works. I was able to reboot and kick off another factory reset which should get rid of that feature.

For future reference, it's probably something in accessibility (under settings) that you accidentally enabled.

Fast tech help needed - how to factory reset?

I've managed to muller up my phone. I've been switching back and forth between ADW Launcher and HTC Sense for a little while.
Today, I was going through all my apps to make some space, and I cleared the data in HTC Sense. The next time I went home using Sense, it force-closed. Then for some stupid reason I thought it would be a good idea to check "use as default" for Sense, and now I just have a phone which constantly force-closes as it tries to go to home screen. Reboot makes no difference. I can't get past the force-close to clear default in HTC Sense.
My phone is not rooted. I think my only option now is to do a hard-reset, but how, if I can't get into settings? Need my phone up & running again asap. Would prefer not to have to reset it (therefore preserving all my apps, customisation) but am prepared to do anything at the moment.
Any advice, please?
I think if u turn it off, turn it on again and press the volume down button the select it from the menu does it, ive never done it before but i think thats it.
You could try booting into safe mode first.
With the phone off, hold down the menu button and power up the device. Keep holding down menu until the phone has completely booted up and you should be in safe mode (it will say "safe mode" in the bottom left corner of the home screen if it has worked.
If it boots into safe mode ok, chances are your problem is a widget on one of your home screens as safe mode will not load any 3rd party applications/widgets.
Failing that, you'll probably need to clear storage from fastboot as langers1 has suggested.
WORD OF WARNING - It seems that safe mode will nix any 3rd party widgets you have on your home screens. You will need to delete and re-add them.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks.
A quick Google search brought up the relevant info from HTC:
Performing a factory reset using phone buttons
If you cannot turn on your phone or access the phone settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using the buttons on the phone.
1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
2. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button..
3. Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER.
4. Press VOLUME UP to start the factory reset.
EDIT: Damn, I should've waited for your reply Dave - I've just reset the phone :-(
Never mind, at least it's working again

Formatting Tablet Help

OK, so my little 9 year old brother got the Acer Iconia Tablet A100 so he wouldnt feel so left out that everyone else in the household has a tablet but not him, well he thought he would be smart and turn off the wifi and place a lock on it. Well he forgot the lock code and after many attempts he has to login with his google credentials, but the problem is that the wifi is off so it wont fix anything. So im trying to format it for him, I can get to the recovery screen, but only the volume buttons will work and the no other button will let me confirm the selection. Dose anyone know what i can do?

1. Place the rotation lock switch in the up position
2. Press and hold the Volume down button, which is located farthest from the rotation lock
3. With the Volume down button held, press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds then release it. Continue holding the Volume down button.
4. Once the tablet vibrates, switch the rotation lock on and off repeatedly while still holding the Volume down button.
5 Release the Volume down button and stop switching the rotation lock once the "Erasing Userdata..." message appears in the upper left corner of the screen
6. Once the factory reset has been completed your tablet will load to the Welcome screen.
7 Your Factory Data Reset has completed now follow the onscreen steps to setup your tablet.

Hard reset the tablet, you'll lose everything, but it will revert to factory condition.
Power off the tablet
Hold Volume + (the one furthest from the power button/ lock switch, right if holding landscape)
While holding Volume + press and hold the Power button
Once it turns on, holding the Volume +, release Power and wiggle the lock switch up and down a few times.
Screen will then say its formatting or resetting or whatever it says.
After this completes, it may reboot, or power off, or continue booting into android, whatever it does, just let it go into android
It should greet you with the Welcome screen for setup.
Resume playing with it.
Edit: Ah I was gonna link a youtube video but Romman0 beat me to it! I must be getting slow in my old age.

I was editing a bunch trying to get the [tube] code to work (to no avail) and added text instructions.

Can I do a hard-reset once I have unlocked bootloader & installed a custom recovery? Is there a way to go back to stock recovery?

You can still hard reset yes but it only erases user data nothing else.
If you want to go back to stock use one of the update.zip methods in vaches stock rom thread. It'll go back to stock recovery. If you want just the stock recovery there's a stock recovery.IMG around somewhere I'll see if I can find it.

"fix broken power button" app wont disable!

I needed to use a program to use the volume button to turn on the screen because my power button wasn't working for some reason, so I looked on the store and downloaded "Fix broken power button" from the store. It worked like it said it would but today my power button is working perfectly fine, so I went into the app and disabled it like it said to then uninstalled it. Well now the volume button still turns on my phone which disables the lock screen so my phone is always getting bumped on in my pocket. I completely wiped my device, reset cache, dalvik, full factory reset. The phone still turns on with the volume button and I am starting to get pissed that I installed this, does anyone know how to disable this? thanks.
Custom ROM? That's a feature inmany ROMs, I'd look through settings & look for "Volume wake"

[Q] Universal Switch enabled, screen unresponsive

So I activated Universal Switch on S6 Edge to check it out, something went wrong in the settings (long story short, got a pop up while setting it up), now screen unresponsive.
It works, I just get this blue horizontal line scanning the screen and nothing else but the power button and home button works. Tried safe mode, no bueno. How can I disable US feature without resetting to factory or at least no data wipe (if possible!)?
Android 5.0, rooted with pingpong, no custom recovery, knox 0x0.
All help is appreciated.

Fixed!
The way I had fixed this is by holding down the power button, both up and down sound buttons, and the home button until it restarted. When the device turned back on it gave the option to turn the setting off. Hope it helped!

how to turn off universal switch
hit home button 3 times
Thanks alot
It worked buddy
It doesn't give me the option to turn it off
Hi,
I have been struggling with Universal Switch on a Samsung S5 Neo. I switched it on, but was never able to switch it off again.
These are findings so far:
-> Did a factory reset using "Sound Up", "Home" and "Power" button simultaneous.
-> The device comes back and wants to configure itself again.
-> I restored my settings from Google, but this immediately brought back "Universal Switch"
-> Factory Reset again and configured the device, but told Google that I want to use it as a "New Device".
-> Now I can use my device in a proper way.
-> In Google Play Store I find all my Apps which were linked to my account and reinstalled them and I am back in business again.
-> Took me half a day to sort this out.
The programmer who designed and programmed this should be hung and shot and poisoned, because this is absolute Crapware.
Hope this helps for all the others who are suffering.
You can also push the home button three times and it should turn it off.
thank u ur the best
Ok, so i have exactly the same problem except my home button doesn't work
Anyone one know how to sort this without having to take it in to a store?
I was faced with this problem before and looked everywhere and couldnt find a fix. This was a while ago. So I dont remember what I did to clear it. I was cleaning off the screen and touched the home button as I was wiping it off and the problem began again.... I just came across your comment because all the others failed. I pressed the home button 3 times quickly and the blue lines stopped scrolling. In addition, I went over the accessibility and I turned off the "Universal Switch" option as much as the option allows. I hate this function. I do not use it or need it (for my needs). I hope I can remember what to do next time this happens. I swore to myself I would remember last time, but apparently that wasnt a guarantee. This time, I will write it down and put is somewhere I know I will find it next time I see these nefarious blue lines scrolling. Hopefully I wont see it again since I disabled it more than it was to begin with. Thank you ever so for commenting. You saved me a lot of frustration!
great fix

Random Boxes and "Press power button and volume to restart phone"

A few days ago, my HTC One M8 came up with a little box on the screen saying "to restart the phone, Press the power button and the volume down button for 10 secs". I had not done anything to the phone so i went to swipe it away and it would not. I could use any apps or panels under the message but the box with the message stayed there.
Then another panel came up with the "shut down, restart and airplane mode" when i did not even press the power button to get to that panel. It would then keep switching between the power saver screen (blank screen) then back to the "airplane mode" box randomly. And the power button becomes hyper sensitive like its a touch button rather than a press button.
Ive tried to factory reset the phone and clear out the cache but to no avail. I thought it might have been a virus...managed to put a virus checker on but found nothing.
Phone is stock and nothing changed on it. Had it for over a year now with no probs
Android version = 6.0
HTC Sense = 7.0
Software = 6.12.401.4
Please help...or is the phone knackered?
Thx in advance
Sounds like your power button is malfunctioning. Not a whole lot you can do, except maybe cleaning around the button, to see if some debris or residue is making it "stick". A more extreme measure, might be to take apart the phone and clean around the button. But such an invasive measure might not be worthwhile (and may do more harm than good), as the problem may be with the electronic components themselves.
