How to Enable Wi-Fi Calling on the LG G3 on Candy5 Android 5.1.1 ROM - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I would like to preface this post by saying I'm a complete noob to XDA Forums and custom ROMs as well. I've know about XDA Developers for years, just never been much of a tinkerer when it comes to Android, I just prefer stock.
Well recently, I bought a used LG G3 because the deal was just to good to pass up. It was my first time using a ROM other than stock and it was utterly disgusting in comparison. I hated it so much I installed my first ROM ever, and it was Candy5 for I heard CynogenMod stopped supporting the LG G3 is some capacity. Well, I've been using it for a while now and made it look as close as I could to stock, there's just one problem.
I recently enabled Wi-Fi calling on Ting. The device was a Verizon model, but I purchased it unlocked, and activated it on the MNVO Ting. Well, it wasn't working so I was wondering what's up. I read that you had to enable it within the devices settings, but all guides were not specific to the custom ROM I had installed, and even following along as closely as I could, the option for Wi-Fi calling wasn't there. I've read that if Wi-Fi calling doesn't appear, your device doesn't support it. But, everywhere I've read, has been consistent that Wi-Fi calling is supported on the LG G3.
So, I ask you long time tinkerers, do you know how to enable Wi-Fi calling within the Candy5 ROM? Does it just not support it? I even used the neat search feature within the settings app and couldn't find a switch for it. Please help!

Yeah WiFi calling won't be an option on AOSP ROMs... Its cooked into the stock software (for at least t mobile) and only works on stock based ROMs. There was a developer that tried to use the code from I BELIEVE the nexus 6 and adopt it to our devices but it never got pushed through. If you want WiFi calling/VolTE, stick with stock ROMs.

Ah, I see. Hopefully some day it would be available on custom ROMs. Using the stock ROM is not even worth the gloriousness of Wi-Fi calling, and that's really saying something, because my room is a complete dead zone for reception. I have to walk out on my porch every time I want to place / receive phones calls or SMS texts.

Yeah I completely feel your problem. Over at my house (which is in the maybe 10 minutes from the main bay area) there is NO reception, only when you walk down the street is there reception. When I was on Verizon I got their WiFi booster thing... Now that I'm on T mob, I use WiFi calling bakdd info their ROMS

Question about Wifi Calling

I have noticed that all the JB roms do not have wifi calling and there was a thread in the ROM section about wifi calling and getting it to work. An Author of one of more popular ROMS for our device came out and said not to ever excpect wifi calling as a feature. My question is why aren't we seeing wifi calling in the newer ROMS. I was a little hesitant to ask this question cause I feel like i'm going to get flamed by seniors, but I honestly don't know the reason and it seems like everyone else does, so i'm curious. I don't have a problem with it because I'm using an ICS rom that does have Wifi calling, I was just wondering whether the issue was a technical hurdle in getting it working on newer ROMS, or is it just a PITA to get it working? just wondering, no complaining
From what I understand its only in official T-Mobile based roms cause no one has yet figured out how to pull it and use it in other roms like CM, AOKP...

Tmo has also switched over to the ims system for wifi calling on android. All new devices need to use that system to wifi call. And taking that info and molding it into asop/aokp roms is simply a pain that most people don't want to delve into. If you want wifi calling you may want to stick to a modded stock rom. At least if you are on tmo...if not i think there are a couple apps that assist in VoIP calling

[Q] Stock Android S4 and T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling

Does anyone know if T-Mobile WiFi calling can be enabled on the vanilla Android S4 when it comes out. I was wondering if it is technically possible.
This is the only thing that's holding me from getting the stock Android S4 (when it comes out) instead of the T-Mobile S4.
From what I've read, the nexus 4 from Google doesn't support it, so I assume the dev version s4 would be the same since it is a T-Mobile feature. I also believe a lot, if not all, roms does not support this feature. I could be wrong, so someone with more experience pls chime in.

If you really value WiFi calling (and I assume you are with T-Mobile now), I don't even know why you don't just go ahead
and buy the T-Mobile S4. There is almost zero advantage the AOSP S4 will have over T-Mo S4.
Maybe you didn't want to root your phone, but then I figure, WiFi probably will not be included on the AOSP version,
and even if there was a way, you would need to root the phone regardless to flash the ROM/MOD.
In the end, I really see the T-Mo S4 as your best bet, as I can guarantee 99% you can flash AOSP ROM with all its features
more easily to a T-Mo S4 than to flash the WiFi calling feature unto an AOSP S4.
I currently have the Nexus S on T-Mobile. My two key features are Wi-Fi Calling and Wi-Fi Hotspot / Tethering. Hotspot/Tethering works great on the Nexus S, and there is no extra charge for it.
Wi-Fi Calling has never been provided for the Nexus S, and nobody has been able to figure out how to add it, so I'm thinking about upgrading to the GS4.
I see two approaches to meet my needs:
1) Buy the T-Mobile version, but have to root it and maybe load new ROMs to eliminate the unwanted carrier apps etc. I'm assuming T-Mobile would not directly offer free tethering like the Nexus S on their phone. I'm aware various apps promise to enable this, but I'm not sure about how well they work. Also, would loading alternate ROMs then cause the Wi-Fi calling capability to be lost?
2) Buy the Google developer version of the GS4. It presumably provides tethering like the Nexus S, but wouldn't have the Wi-Fi calling. Will that be impossible to add later as it was with the Nexus S, or is the GS4 Google version close enough to the T-Mobile version that somebody could port the app?
Advice or suggestions?
Devs have been trying to get WiFi calling going for quite some time. It's closed source and tied into T-Mobile somehow. I know its very complicated. It sucks because I'm used to aosp ROMs but I can't give up WiFi calling because my service is so terrible at home/work.
I know developers are still working on it. If they can get the sensors, ir blaster, and WiFi calling on AOSP I'll never look back. Given the fact that the Nexus GS4 will be Vanilla Android I'm almost positive carrier apps won't be installed. If they don't have the sensors working it'll be a downgrade from tw in my opinion.

The problem with porting WiFi calling to non stock ROMS is that the APK requires all sorts of libs to be installed with it.
It's been done before though. CM7 and CM9 releases for various devices had WiFi calling once the lib situation was figured out. And it worked great.
For other devices it was a matter of pulling the APK and the associated libs from a stock rom, keeping everything to still be recognized as though it was installed on the stock ROM, and putting it into a CM rom.
It was accomplished before. I'd be shocked if it doesn't get accomplished again.
XDA Devs are smarter than Carrier Devs!

Wifi Calling Help

I started using ILWT's CM7 rom not really knowing what I was getting into. It works great but 80% of my life is outside of cell range and I rely heavily on wifi calling.
The stock G2 wifi calling app no longer works (which apparently everyone knows). I tried using tmobile's crappy Tmobile bobsled app which was a waste of time.
How do I get my wifi calling/texting back? preferably one that uses my phone number like the stock one did. I've searched around seen people refering to links in their signatures that are no longer there but nothing else.
Please help, I'd rather not go back to stock but will if I have to.

CM7.2 has wifi calling as does a some of the sense 2.1 and sense 3.0. There is a version out there for ICS (I use it all the time), but there is no wifi calling for JB.
What I will do is go back and look on my archive of info and see if I can find a wifi calling add-on that works with ILWT

**UPDATE** added the file I have might work.

Completely stock AT&T G3 with issues...

Hey guys, I just got a G3 a couple weeks ago. There's a lot to like about the phone, but coming from a Note 2 for the last couple years with a ton of different ROMs, this stock phone seems to have bugs like those, even though it shouldn't (as well as a lack of the dev community. Where are all the ROMs and kernels for this?? I have the D85010f variant, which doesn't look like there are any options for?).
One thing I have a problem with is wifi. When I'm at home and turn on wifi, I would expect that my phone automatically connect to my wifi. However, it tries to connect to some phantom, open network called 0x, and in order to connect to my own network, I have to long press the wifi toggle and manually select my wifi every time. Why? Why can't I set precedence for connections? Better yet, why is there no toggle to NOT automatically connect to open wifi automatically?
Secondly, why isn't there a brightness slider? My friend's G3 on VZW has it. Why doesn't ours?
Often, when sending texts, it sits there for quite a long time trying to send the text, even with full connection. Further, I like customizing my phone, and one of the things I really like about the ROM I came from on my N2 was pulsing LED. The LED on this phone pulses when you double tap the screen, and on boot/shutdown, so why isn't there an option to have pulse instead of blink for notifications? I guess that's more personal preference.
I think there were some other things that I'm forgetting right now, but I'll edit when/if I remember them. Have I just been too spoiled with ROMs in the past?
Go to the att g3 forum
I see an ATT G3 dev forum, but not a general questions forum for ATT G3, which this is the closest to. Since I'm stock, I don't see how this would fit in the dev forum.

Thanks.
Question is though, why isn't this a fitting sub? I'm on ATT but these issues may or may not be unique to ATT.

Marshmallow firmware ?

Anyone seen the firmware for the M9 that supports Marshmallow ? It's definitely out there as some users are running Marshmallow ROMs....
Any leaks ? Any news on official release ?
Is this what you are looking for?

No, that's not for Verizon plus it's a full ROM/RUU.

The Marshmallow ROM for Verizon's M9 is still in the testing stages. Based upon my current build, I'd guess late testing stages, but don't quote me.

Oops! Sorry...
I believe Marshmallow firmware is only out for the dev / WWE devices.
VZW will most likely be the last variant to the update to MM, so don't hold your breath waiting on it.
FYI - I'm running the latest Candy6 (an AOSP-based Marshmallow ROM) on the most recent VZW firmware and it is running flawlessly. I actually thought I was enjoying sense until i went back to AOSP!

Is there a thread for that here at XDA, in the VZW section ? I've used CM-based ROMs for years but the only one I've seen for the M9 didn't have VZW support (yet).
The Venom team, and a few others, do have a test build for Verizon from HTC. However sharing this build would mean violating an agreement between said testers and HTC/Verizon. This, in turn, would mean no more early test builds would be released to them. This is not what any of us want.
You, and I, have Verizon M9's. We understand our devices are not the same as International/Developer... and thus we wait, patiently. Our turn will come.

Yep there's an XDA thread, but it's over in the general M9 section, here ya go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/rom-t3265048
The thread title still states it's CM based, but they recently rebased on AOSP for Marshmallow. Most recent build is labeled as an alpha, but it's working great for me.
So to confirm, Verizon is actually testing a marshmallow build?

I'm working my way through that thread. When it was first started, it appeared that there were a few critical things not working properly, like non-system apps being unable to read the external SD card. When they switched to AOSP, it seemed to improve things, but it's still not clear from that thread.
So..... since you're using it and also on Verizon, what doesn't work ? I've seen people release ROMs with non-working cameras, can't make phone calls, and other crazy s**t. I'm all for helping if I can, but I still need a functioning phone !!
I've got the ROM zip and GAPPS downloaded on my phone ready to go....

Honestly everything is working great for me on the build from 01-08, nothing is broken that i can tell. Data, wi-fi, gps, bluetooth, camera, flashlight, SD card, calls, texts, all are good to go. I haven't tested IR blaster as I don't use it for anything. And you will not have advanced calling/VoLTE available as far as I'm aware. But all good otherwise. :good:
I did see another VZW user reporting some issues on the same build like not getting a GPS lock, and their network incorrectly showing as Sprint and losing service whenever they drop to 3g or 1x coverage. But I have not had any GPS issues myself, and can't speak to the coverage issue as I live and work in an area with pretty solid LTE coverage and have had no problems.
I saw the one report of a GPS issue but multiple people saying they have no problem, so I brush off that "issue". I do have advanced calling enabled but no one I call does, so it doesn't matter. If I'm not mistaken, both ends need it enabled (?). Either way, it won't stop me.

I never had a gps lock when I went from sense to aosp. That was my problem. Switching from LTE to 3g and 1x because of fringe coverage , and having it read sprint pcs was just odd. Other than that, it's a great rom
No problem with GPS here. I just tried it for the first time with Google Maps and it showed my location spot-on. I also tried GPS Status and got a fix on 15/20 satellites (inside).

locks super quick too. Once i went and flashed a sense rom, got my lock, then went back to aosp, all was good. Do me a favor, download 4g switcher from the play store (its got a red power button logo). Since your in good 4g coverage. in this app, goto the dropdown menu that lists the radio bands (CDMA/EVDO/GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto is set by default) select CDMA auto (PRL) (this will force you into 3g mode). Then see if you see either 3107 or sprint PCS as your coverage. Then try to browse to a webpage or something on the 3g, i couldnt get data to work in that mode whatsoever. Then at least ill know if im sane. Thank you
Don't need an app for that - just dial "*#*#4636#*#*"
It shows "Sprint PCS" when I switch to 3G mode. I'm not going to chance any data roaming charges though... Sorry
Did you toggle Settings, Cellular Networks, Data roaming to 'on' ? It's off by default. That could be why you couldn't browse on 3G.
