has anyone tried to build this?

i would love to have it on my phone.
It it's cool, but right now, very few apps work, and don't expect root out of the gate. The military is working on qualifying apps for it and I phone.

Why wouldn't all apps work? its a port of SELinux right? I don't see what apps have to do with it..
I looked into it as well a few months ago, there were quite a few commits for it in aosp master branch, some have been merged, and it's something that will come along eventually.

Android security != Linux security. On stock Android, have you ever noticed how you don't have to put in a password every time you want to install an app? There isn't a single Linux distribution out there that I can name where you're given the ability to modify the system like that without prompting for root or admin privileges. The app gives you a single "Are you sure?" prompt and then it goes about its business.
The fact that apps have the inherent ability to sidestep the standard Linux permissions pretty much breaks all of the functionality of SELinux, so it has to be rebuilt specifically for Android.
That makes sense.

What are your security apps?

To be honest I take security seriously and I love applications that help with protecting my phone, what applications do you use?
I just installed lookout security and droidwall, but I'm on the lookout for more!

I like to have control and see the Permissions per app.
I use, Permission Monitor. http://bit.ly/UkG58n
Not really apps to secure android, rather the environment where the system is used: setdns, openvpn
Best prot would be kernel

For firewall I use Avast but DroidWall is fine.
For anti-theft I use Cerberus. Avast anti-theft is good, too, and free, but harder to use.
For WiFi hotspot security, I use Orbot. End to end encryption so your passwords and stuff are safe even if you're not using SSL. Really easy to set up and use.
To get rid of various kinds of crapware, carrier IQ, and commercial trackers/loggers nothing beats Logging Test app by TrevE.
You could use where's my droid and then you can chose what to send to you so your phone rings or your gps location there is also avg that you can access with the pc and wipe your data from a pc or lock it or...

Setup guest user access - restricted profile

Hello,
I am wondering if anyone has figured out a way to set up a customized guest profile.
I would like for my nephew to be able to play around with the tablet but i want to prevent access to my data (work related) as well as disabling and/or customizing other functions.
In short, i want him to be able to play games only.
One workaround is to set up a second user and utilize an app to prevent access to individual applications (example: Perfect App Protector); however that is cumbersome and..... Well, a workaround.
I'm also using a Nexus 7 and with kitkat it's super easy to create a customized profile.
My question: what's the best solution here?
Thanks!

Use Knox for business stuff and non Knox for everything else...
Apparently the P600(1?) had an update to MK1(only US cellular) that allowed different users but if you own one that is an exynos processor and uses the same bandwdth that the US carrier does....
Honestly the switcheme app works best. You pay 6 or 7 dollars but worth it.

Privacy, Security and ROMs

Ive been running the Hybrid-x ROM for some time. I read an article the other day about how some (or all?) Apps have complete access to your phone. Is there a way (besides uninstalling) to prevent Apps from have free reign on your phone? Too, is there anyone custom ROM that has better security and privacy features than another? Many thanks!

Look up Ap op"s it is a function Google has hidden in the OS.. Essentially it is a permissions manager.... Exposed has a module called Ap op's to enable the function. .
You can disable permissions for applications but be prepared that disabling too many can break the application. . You can always change back and forth experimenting on what restricted permissions work best for any individual application. ..

Used to use droid wall. Not sure if it works on lollipop.
Using the xprivacy module for xposed is the only real option. There are tons of reasons to root and use xposed but this is a great one. It sort of works on 5.1 but is really nest supported in kk (I'm staying on kk until there's a real reason to move off, way too many issues with lollipop).

LG V10 MM - Unlock apps using fingerprint

On Lollipop the V10 used it's own fingerprint software for the lockscreen. After the MM upgrade, the Google fingerprint thing is now integrated into the system. That means now you can use your finterprints to unlock apps. A popular app that was not supported while on Lollipop works perfectly fine now:
App Lock: Fingerprint&Password by KeepSafe
If you find other apps which support fingerprint unlocking, please post it below.

Appreciate the heads up about keepass2android. Works so much better than keepassdroid. Now if I could figure out how to automate the export of lastpass to a csv file I'd be set.

MaxLock (xposed) can use fingerprint too on my v10. I lock all apps I want with maxlock and i can unlock all of them using fingerprint. I was surprised when i saw it because i didn't know maxlock can be used with fingerprint. It's amazing
