Are the speaker grills silver or black? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If you look at official pictures of the 5x and the official announcement video found here the grills are clearly black(which I like because it makes the phone look one color). However, on other videos and pictures for example this one you can see the grills look silver.
Is it the lighting or do the white and mint colors have different colored speakers? Anyone have a definite idea?

Both are black the speakers just appear to be not as deep a black as the front because the front is made of different material then the speakers grill. Glossy black for the body and more matte black for the body. Lighting also will effect how deep the blacks look.

LED notification - different on White/Grey versions?

I'm now on my 3rd unlocked European One X for one reason or another - the white one's LED was just right - I could clearly see from a distance if it was charging or flashing. The two grey ones I've had both had barely visible LEDs, which I can't see when the phone isn't right in front of me or when it's at an angle. Is this a problem with some of the phones in gereral or is it just an issue with the grey model? Cheers.
Your 2 grey phones may have been defective, but in general white surfaces reflect more light than black/grey surfaces. This could have made it appear as though the lights were of differing brightnesses, or just that the white phone reflects more of the led's light.

My grey one is just the same regarding the LED, it's a pixel sized flash as it is shining through one of the "precision" drilled ear speaker holes, so you have to be almost looking directly down on it to see it, certainly in normal lighting conditions.
I expect the white is just a bit more translucent so you see a bigger area of light.
It is one of those silly design decisions that HTC seem to make sometimes! The LED should be behind the glass at the top right where the border is, in the same way the other sits the light sensor. I've always assumed it was last minute rushed job to add an LED, and as after thought they just had to place it where they could that didn't mean reworking the phones design.
Some phones don't have LEDs at all. I'm not sure why a notification LED has fallen out of fashion, I find it really useful, for example I leave my desk to make a drink or see someone or for a comfort break, then arrive back to my desk, a quick look down at my phone I know nothing arrived while I was away and it saves turning the screen on to check.
Regards
Phil

It must be a defect which happens to be on the 2 grey phones then because the difference is huge - one is barely visible and the other I can easily see from across the room (it's probably 30 or so times brighter). Hopefully my 4th One X, which is on its way, will be ok (the white one with the good LED has the wifi problem so that's going back).

The front on Gold

If you look at htc.com you can see that the white front color on the Gold phone is not as bright white as on the silver version (US excluded).
Can someone confirm this? It looks a bit darker like "beige" or sand color. I think it looks better, so i hope i am right
I thought this too, but assumed it is just the composition of the picture.
Being a render, perhaps they adjusted the white balance to bring out the gold?

dark Line on oled screen

hey guys,
I received my OP3 on friday and it has very unequal light emission. in the middle of the screen there is an approx. 1 centimeter thick line which is darker. it is only recognizable at dark colors like grey blue etc.
Does anybody have the same issue with the screen?
is this normal or should I send it back?
Thanks
pics below (in real it is way more darker)

Pretty sure I don't have this - if I do it's too subtle to notice.
It's quite clear on your one, so it looks like an actual issue.
Send it back to the company.

Which color looks best?

Obviously it's a matter of preference, but I'm really struggling between white and black. The blue is nice as well, but I wish it was more metallic like the xz1 blue.
The white with silver/aluminum edges and same button really looks nice. But then, ppl r saying black helps look less chunky and the bezels don't stand out as much.
BTW, anyone know why some black models have black power button, while others have silver?
Please share opinions.
I thought all black models have a black power button, where did you find black model with silver power button?
Coming from the beautiful white Z5C, the XZ1C white model was the first color I looked at, but was disappointed to find that it isn't really white, it's more silver, which cheapens the feel IMO.
I also think the silver power button a bit jarring on the blue and red models, had they been uniform in color, it would have made my choice a lot more difficult.
Ultimately, I found the black model to be the most elegant. I really loved the black power button color scheme, and also appreciated that this time around the black is really black, not some shade of gray.
The polished chamfered frame on the top and bottom looks very nice in black, just subtle enough for a display of sophistication. In comparison, I find it a bit too shiny on the blue and red models, and it just feels bland on the silver model.
Another reason I went in favor of the black model is because of all the large sensors this phone is equipped with, having a black body helps reduce their presence and blends in nicely. It's especially apparent on the other colors, and I can't help but notice their existence.
In summary, Sony made it very easy for me to choose the black model over the other color options.
black
Aah, just went back to the video I saw on YouTube, the guy switched between xz1 compact and x compact, in different shots, didn't catch the switcheroo.
I actually would have preferred black with silver/metallic button. I'm assuming that would've added to premium look.

The XZ1C's black power button does appear metallic, and subjectively I think it's much better than silver, and fits perfectly with the black body.
My wife had a black Z5C, it has a silver power button on a black frame, so I've seen and lived with my share of the silver on black combo, it's okay but doesn't strike me as more premium.
I was really drawn to the black on black scheme when I first saw the black XZ1C in person, it's very exotic in its own way, not to mention it's the only model that has a matching color power button.
Well, arguably the silver button on the white model matches too, but... it feels so run of the mill, very meh, works but boring.
There is no white color in XZ1c, it's silver and it's nice (my colleague has it).
I've taken the Horizon Blue which is more green than blue but I like it.
IMHO a black one is the ugliest this time (and I have always had black phones including Compacts)
I went with the "Twilight Pink" option since I had the Red Z3 Compact and I like the bold colour of the Z3C.
I find the name of the colour to be a bit misleading. To me, it looks more orangey than pink. Probably a bit closer to raw salmon, where it's closer to red / orange and not yet pink.
The only thing I would have liked Sony to keep would be the colour of the front glass. In all the older models, the front bezels were all black. The XZ1 Series started a new trend where the front bezel follows the colour of the body (not too sure about the XZ Premium).
Hi,
Got the black one and all I can say, it's really black and for my point of view, it's really elegant and classy.
All the buttons are black, and when the screen is off, it's looks like a black monolith : elegant.

Same here! I have black one and love its professional looking. I like the looks when the screen off, the device is one black bar. And when the screen on, the navigation bar at the bottom disappear and blends in to the black bezel. Gotta say the LCD quality of XZ1c is so high that the black is very close to AMOLED black, even in the no light environment.
I ended up choosing to go with black one. Gotta say, made the right choice; and the comments about black monolith and classy, right on point. That's what I love most about this device. 2001 space Odyssey quality monolith - I feel like I'm holding something prescious and amazing in hand.
I got the black one today. It really is stunning. It's a high quality black that i've never seen any other vendor other than Sony pull off. Pictures don't do it justice.
I got the black one and think it's beautiful, but I would've definitely grabbed a fully white model if there was one.
Loving my horizon blue...almost mint.
I have the "white silver" one. Yeah, the name is misleading, it's not white at all.
And it's not exactly silver either. It's more of a metallic gray. I was hoping it was shinier, like the paint on the Samsung GS7 silver version.
I still like how it looks though. It gives the phone an industrial look akin to HTC's M7.
I can't decide if I should go black or blue. I'm thinking black for all reasons listed. Blue is my favorite color, but the phone looks more aqua than the blue xz1. It's "lagoon" blue vs horizon blue

Blackish display edges?

Does anyone else has a faint blackish spot around the edges of the phone? Mine has near the righr side. It's visible to the naked eye but hard to capture on my other phone.

Hey guys, I have the same problem as well. Is it a problem in the display or is it common on IPS LCD display?
Help me out, got the device just yesterday.
It does not concern me anyway lol
Can someone post pictures of it perhaps so others can know before buying this phone?
This is referred to as "shadowing". It's one of the negatives of LCD, along with light bleed. I've heard a few reviews mention shadowing.
This is what it looks like with a bright white wallpaper. It is hard to take a good photo. This is at the bottom on my phone and the shadows are only visible with white/bright colored background.
