What is this metal rubber and what it does? [Wireless Charging]

Could someone explain to me?
I want to remove the coil of the charging cover of a lumia 820 and place it on a normal cover (slimmer).

So my crappy case, the very thing that's supposed to protect my tab has pulled a piece of the bezel off the corner leaving a nasty jagged gap. Can I replace just this? The device works fine so I don't want the full assembly.

Sorry guys, I bought a second hand RN8P, and some one else told me that the back cover is not the original, could it be that the back cover design can vary according the region? Appreciated,
