Should I buy a Nexus 5X US model for use outside US; - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The ~35% price difference between US ans UK purchases of Nexus 5X had me thinking about finding a way to get a Nexus 5X from US.
My concern is, will I have any issues with the device, if I use it in a european country (I live in Greece)? For instance 4G not working or other connectivity issues.
What should I be aware of before making that move?
TIA

Greece uses LTE bands 3 and 7, and UMTS band 1.
The US version of the 5X has these so you would be OK in Greece.

Should be the same! I think most of the European countrys use band 1,3,7 and 20
You can see the bands for italy on wiki (I´m not allowed to post links yet so im gonna describe where)
search google for "lte frequency bands italy" and use the link List of LTE networks in europe.
Greetings

You guys have to consider warranty as well as exchanges. Might be cheaper, but in the long run could be more expensive. Don't you guys have 2 year warranties?

2 years here in Italy.

If you don't care about the warranty then I day go for it if the spectrum is there. You won't have a warranty buying an out of market one.

It's a risk for sure, but the price difference I think justifies it. My concern now is whether service centers for LG here in Greece, will service US devices or they'll respond that they have no spare parts for the US model.

That's only if nothing goes wrong. I believe if you look at LG Nexus 5 section you might be able to find your answer if the do cross warranty. Something tells me they won't, because it doesn't work the other way around. From what I have seen people who bought international versions here had to send it to where the device was intended for. Sometimes the importer might give a limited warranty or some sort of warranty plan you can purchase.

Best buy offering LTE-Less GNex?

Okay I need an aswer to this by tomorrow... I figured id ask here while I look on google.
Will best buy be offering the UK or a GNex version wiithout the LTE radio in it for people say on T-Mobile orf those who don't want the LTE radio in it?
I'm asking because my parents are either going to get the SGS2 (which is inferior with T-Mobiles version) or the GNex and I'm the one deciding which. Obviously I want the GNex, but not sure I do if it comes with the LTE radio in it..
Thanks in advance for the nice responses!

Couldn't u just look on best buy or call them? They probably will eventually.

There is no GSM version officially released in the US. You have to import and buy full price.
Sent from my GSM Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Probably not until either AT&T or T-Mobile starts selling them. Has BB (or ANY major B&M retailer) ever sold "non-carrier branded" devices? I don't think so. They make money on the contracts. If they could avoid hardware completely they'd do it in a second.
Well I'm just thinking maybe when Tmobile starts selling them they might see fit to sell the GSM edition as they don't seem to have LTE in the near future.. do you guys think maybe that's a possibility?

right now best buy only sells the Verizon LTE version.
if the device ever launches in the USA in a GSM version, you'll be sure they'll carry that as well like they did with the Nexus S.

Best Buy Mobile was actually the exclusive retailer for the Nexus S. Unlocked unbranded. Subsidized on tmobile. In fact they still sell the Nexus S unlocked unbranded and subsidized on att.

First of all, wtf at your grammar and using the wrong words. Do you even look back at your words after you type them out?
Secondly, nobody knows for sure if America will get any version other than the LTE model. It's all assumption until an announcement is made.

Whoa, calm down. Its from the XDA App, so it was an Autocorrect from 'retarded'.
Now, I am just debating if I am willing to spend $50.00 more to get the phone 30 days earlier. I just wish there was some OFFICIAL talk if the GSM version is going to be available stateside.
Verizon has it exclusive for 60 days from launch according to someone I spoke with from Samsung.
After talking with someone from AT&T, you'll probably see it there in February or March.

T-Mobile?

Has anyone heard any rumors about a Galaxy Nexus on contract for T-Mobile?
Sent from my iced vibrant
Not even a peep. No one knows at this point. If you want it, you're gonna have to just go off contract and buy the international one.
My phone shows up as T-Mo Galaxy Nexus on the web version of the market. To me, that shows that something is in the pipeline...

Are you using a Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile? That'd explain it... Pretty sure the market just reads the build.prop and the carrier ID.
My N1 had always shown with no carrier ID, because T-Mo didn't officially support the N1...

Not really. All Nexus One phones were sold directly from Google.
Yes, T-Mobile offered a plan to users who wish to sign up with a two-year contract. This was very limited as it was only for customers who were on individual plans.
Nexus One was never marketed or advertised in T-Mobile corporate stores or their website.

Well just because DT owns T-Mobile USA doesn't mean they both get products at the same time... They announce and run their own product lines and deals separate of each other.

Dude, I'm from Lancashire...
If you are talking T-Mobile USA... I say yes, its the unlocked GSM galaxy nexus. Negri supposedly has it for 575 shipped after coupon for the 16gb version. That's not much more than I paid for my grey market daily steals gsm galaxy nexus. After inflation its not much more than the 520 dollar nexus s I bought day one. True, its not subsidized, but if you plan on keeping the phone for any length of time you potentially pay less staying off contract. More up front, but less on the back end. Plus you get access to almost everything in the app store. I still can't get wallet working with my nexus s but this one works out of the box. Plus square trade is less than T-Mobile warranty or geek squad (us GSM nexus s only available at best buy). Save up a little or pay it on credit and pay over time, but in the 500s this is a great phone for T-Mobile given the features. Unsubsidized 32gb model on Verizon is 645 new so...

I thought all carriers had it over here, just go to orange as they share spectrum or o2 or vodafone. Or could take the cheaper action and get giffgaff and buy it outright.

Splitting the forums into more sections would cause more havoc. Most shippers are international anyway especially the purchases made on Ebay.
The GSM extended battery comes from South Korea and took about 7-10 days.

No it doesn't.
T-Mobile UK is an independently operated wholly-owned subsidiary of Everything Everywhere. Everything Everywhere is partially owned by Deutsche Telekom.
T-Mobile US is an independently operated wholly-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom.
But really the ownership matters less than the fact that all of the T-Mobile networks run quite independently of each other. So to get back to it, it does matter for people to specify 'which' TMO they're referring to. Of course, this one should have been pretty clear based upon OP's information.

Europe!!

Hi everyone.. I'm planning on going to Europe this summer and I wanted to ask if anyone knows if my phone will work with European 3g... Thanks
Btw.. I already have my sim unlock code from t-mobile..

You should be good. I went to the UK and Singapore with an unlocked Nexus One and it worked great. Just got my unlock code for my T989 as I have a trip to Sweden in 2 weeks. I used Giff-Gaff in the UK and Starhub in Singapore. Study the carriers frequencies before you go and buy a pre-paid sim and you will be good to go.

This phone is not pentaband which means it isn't guaranteed to work on 3g for all carriers. It does have 4 of all 5 bands, the only one you're missing is 900mhz so depending on where in Europe you're going you'll have 3g. You'll have to check the specific carrier you plan on using and as long as they support one of the bands, you'll be fine. (meaning they don't only use the 900 bands for 3g)
This will help. Still trying to find the site I used that told the carriers frequencies.

YES. EXCLUSIVELY TO SOUTH KOREA  Do not expect for 805 version to come abroad...
and no the LTE radios won't work in the US......
Edit - Actually I am not 100% sure the radios won't work in the US. Everything I've read seems to indicate it is only for Korea, but most articles are also focusing on the new LTE-A radio. I haven't seen anything to indicate what other radios are going to be included.
When can we buy one? It will work down here.
