Best(?) Rom for Asus Zenfone 2 - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hallo Guys!
I have bought a Zenfone 2 WW Edition and I read a lot about the ASUS ZenUI (a lot of apps that no one needs). Now I'd like to know if there is any Rom that's slim. I don't like the oversupply of apps that every developer forces you into. I only need the bare necessities and i want to use the full function-range of the hardware
is there any rom, that someone of you would recommend?
thank you,
mnhds

I'm using SuperZen, wich is the zenUI, but with removed bloatware. The bloatware didn't really annoy me, but the battery drain sure did. Using this rom along with the Project T kernel improved my battery life considerably. There's also Cyanogen if you dislike the UI, but it still has a few bugs.

i read about the Super Zen and i think i will try it. i hate bloatware. i really would like to have MIUI on the zenfone 2 but i think its a bit difficult to optimize the rom for intel processors.
thank you for your answer!

I'm on the blissPop since 10 days
I'm really satisfying, it's based on CM with lot of customization

yeah, porting things to the x86 processor is causing some trouble to developers, but we're seeing progress every day, so I believe it's just a matter of time before we have completely stable ROMs besides stock (which is not that stable also lol) .

What ROM for my girlfriend? (stable, reliable, great battery life)

Hello everybody.
I've rooted and modded the Samsung Galaxy W of my girlfriend but now i'm facing a lot of strange battery issues: the battery drains really fast and she hates it.
I've tried CM9 RC6 and SlimBean but the problem is still here. I've got no time to waste on trying 20 ROMs so i'm asking you a suggestion.
She was really excited about the stock ROM. It was fair enough for her, apart from the bloatware that couldn't be uninstalled and some random reboots and freeze.
So, i'm searching for something like that:
Great battery life
Stable and reliable ROM
Possibly CM based or AOSP
In my opinion, a CyanogenMod 7 would be great, but i can't find it for the SGW.
Could you please help me?
Thank you!

Slim-3.1.0 Ancora 12/06/12 Unoffical with standard kernel (or with Fofivo as the other user said). Noted!
I'll wait for more suggestions before wiping and flashing again. I wanna be sure this time..

Stock one is awesome and better battery life
And if you want more ram use forfivo but battery life will be less than with stock one
What about those ones?
77ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166571
AOSP - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102599
SlimICS - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2132748
They seems pretty basic too.
I've checked Paranoid Android and Pac-Man too but i think they've got too much stuff that i don't need and she won't use.

from those 3 links i prefer aosp..and without mods..for launcher just use nova/apex..
and for my suggestion try cm9rc7..

My honest advice:
Do not consider anything except Stock ROM with Value Pack or CM9.
Its not that those other coders are not talented. But - it's like with those small, heavily tuned / modified Honda Civics driving around: Their owner / creators and other enthusiasts love them for their custom mods, but you really could/would not give such a car to your girldfirend, mother, or whatever.
sooner or later you run into problems that will never be fixed, nothing for daily usage by a non-IT-person.
With beta 6, i guess you mean RC6?
Battery lasting, the missing fm radio and a sometimes not-100%-stable camera would be the only drawbacks i see for it.
Performance and overall fluidity is at least one class over the stock rom, really remarkable.
Maybe there will be better battery performancee with CM9 in the future, as it is not really clear atm, what causes the impacts.
But i think its unlikely that it will ever reach the Stock ROM under this aspect, as the new features are simply likely to consumer more cpu cycles then before.

CM9 RC6 was actually my first choice, because a friend of mine is using it without any problem. Anyway, i've experienced the huge battery drain even with CM9 RC6.
I can give a try to CM9 RC7 but i'm wondering: wouldn't it be better to choose a ROM with the 2.x kernel?

Yes, i meant RC6, sorry.
Sadly, battery performance is crucial for my girlfriend. Anyway, i just want a "normal" battery drain; what i'm experiencing is a very massive battery drain, totally abnormal.
Would you suggest me a Stock ROM with Value Pack? Maybe it's the better choice...
for me battery drains so fast because of to many apps..just install apps only for daily use..
yeahh i can see some of us back to 2.6..
rc7 impress me..see the ss..with stock battery(old one)..

I think the same but she's just like 20 apps, Pinterest, Instagram, GoogleReader, Dolphin, GMail, and stuff like this.
Regarding your screenshot, 17% left after 10 hours is not so great.
This is her phone now:
Can i install a 2.x kernel on CM9 RC7?
like i told you before..i use my old battery and stock 3.0kernel rc7..my battery usually last no longer than 5-6hrs..
you got 16hrs..that better than mine..
if you want 2.6 kernel i think it is better to install cm9 rc2..

5 - 6 hours? How can you use the phone? You can't even go outside for a dinner that you have to charge your phone.
Do you mean that you actively use the phone for 6 hours or what?

They're just customized CyanogenMod, and i've already have problems with CyanogenMod. If i would try CM another time, i would stick to CM9 Unofficial
Even if Queen Anne's Revenge is aimed to best battery life and it's made by an italian (as me ). It's interesting...
I think i'm gonna flash one of those modified stocks! Wish me luck!
At the end of all my tests, i've decided to keep using F.A.W. (Rls 3, from the same branch of Rls 2): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626827
It's simply a powered Samsung stock but it's rocking stable, really fast, enough good looking and with a huge battery life!
Perfect for my girlfriend!

Why so few custom roms?

Hey there.
I'm coming from Asus Infinity TF700, which was a great tablet but had disastrous storage speed, which made it virtually unusable.
On the other hand, there was plenty of custom ROMs, from CM to Paranoid, and others.
I've done some digging through Tab S forums and it seems so far only 3 custom ROMs are available, and even those are not being developed or are based on stock.
Why is that? Not many devs have Tab S? No people with know-how?
Anything esle?
Are there more custom roms to be expect in the future?
I am actually not sure when this tablet came to market, but it seems like 5-6 months now.
Thx for all the info. Oh, and if anyone could recommend a custom rom for Tab S 10.5 (WiFi only) I would appreciate it.
BR
We have cm11, skyhigh kernels, stock based rom, and blissed rom is being working on now. The best custom rom for the tab s wifi is cm11 in which im running now. Its super fast and stable.
Thanks for info.
Would you be so kind and point me to the CM11 thread - i'm talking T-800, not T-700 for which i have found a thread. But i don't think it is compatible, is it?

How About Battery Life? Is it better than stock?
I've recently discovered the awesomeness of Pure Nexus on my Galaxy S4 and I would absolutely kill to have a rom like this for my Tab S. Google edition experience is buttery smooth, incredible battery life and has really extended the life of my phone. I may try the CM11, but I really don't know if it could be better than a modified Nexus rom.

Ehh well it depends. When i installed a custom rom battery life was a tad shorter. But after a couple charges to get the battery calibrated its a bit the same but A bit better. To get more battery on cm11 what i did was underclock the cpu to 1.3 mhz and set the profile to power save. I now have six hours screen on time at 35 percent. So it may vary. If you dont change anything it would not change battery life but butter smooth.

That's truly unfortunate with the great hardware available on this device. It's what the Nexus should be!

Zenfone 2 Bloatware

Hello all,
i bought the 2gb variant of the Zenfone 2, and was shocked to see the amount of bloatware. i disabled quite a few, but the ram usage still floats around 1.3 to 1.4 gb. I tried playing games like injustice, and it liked lagged like anything. Asphalt ran on medium rather than on high graphics. Should i go for root and disable everything or should i go for a custom rom. Which of these wud help my device perform better.
Welcome to the world of Asus
I'd say a custom rom is the best option here since Asus has been slacking with updates and we're still on 5.0...
Many people are using unofficial CM 12.1 so I think you should give it a try

ROM suggestions for HTC ONE M9

Hi everyone,
I just got a HTC ONE M9, as my Redmi Note 4 broke. Can you guys please recommend best stable and high performing roms for this device?
I know I might get some flak for being a noob and lazy, but I did try LOS 16 (since I adore stock Android ) and Stock Deodexed rom, but LOS lags a lot and Stock rom looks outdated .
Thanks in advance

I won't give ya any flak for asking the rom question...
The truth is.....nobody can answer that question with any degree of accuracy because we all like different things.
LOS16 is the latest firmware we have...with AICP as well. And bear in mind that our M9's are ancient by today's phone standards.
Lag is just plain going to happen....but...
You can adjust the cores and optimize the experience which generally offers a good improvement.
And I may get flak for this....but if you are running apps like Facebook and instagram and many others....I can tell you that lag will be worse.
Apps like these are memory hogs that eat battery like crazy.
A lean and stripped down LOS 16 flash is fast and smooth.
Give it another try...and use the browser for Facebook and such instead of loading the apps.
It makes a huge difference for me....g

Custom ROM for improving battery life and phone expérience.

Hello all !
I recently buy an samsung galaxy s9, I love it because of his size, today all manufacturers are racing for the biggest screen diagonal, but forget about the people who like compact phones.
the only thing I don't like is that the battery doesn't really last. I use some social networks like instagram or whatsapp to chat and the battery is not consistent enough for me, I think. (I uninstalled the bloatware app and made a maximum of optimization).
So I'm thinking about the solution of installing a custom rom. I'm doing some research and I like the pixel experience or the lineageOS.
The reason of my post is to ask you, you who know much better than me, is it really going to increase the duration of use?
Do you have any advice on this ? I read that you have to calibrate the battery after installing a rom but maybe you have other advice, a rom in particular, settings to do ?
For rooting i find this thread in this forum > https://www.thecustomdroid.com/samsung-galaxy-s9-plus-root/
but i got a SM-G960U1 that is not supported..
Thanks you a lot for all ur answer and information good to know XDA members !
Well I have a galaxy S9(5.8" size) and it's running NezukoOS with android 11. Pretty fluid and with light use I can get it to last me all day long, however I turn it off during night. If you really want more battery life, you should considerer using a custom kernel, as that is what is really going to improve battery life. The custom ROM will bring new features and make your phone feel different, but it usually doesn't improves battery life(at least the ones I tried out didn't help battery at all).
Hope this is useful!

And another question to NezukoOS or general AOSP roms.. can you unlock the device by pressing the 'invisible' home button on the screen? Is this option still available in these roms?

sorry for my bad english Greetings From Germany!!
Well I never used a custom kernel as I didn't had any problems with battery life, but I do know a ROM which comes with a modded kernel. It's call Noble ROM, and brings ONE UI 3 with android 11 to the galaxy S9. I tried it out and it works pretty good, and when you install it you have a modded kernel that will ask you if you want to improve performance or battery life, here is the link if you are interested on it https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-03-2021-sm-n960f-fd-n-sm-g96xf-fd-n.4244747/ However if you prefer the stock Android I can't really help you, but for sure there are a lot of kernels on XDA forums, you just need to search one.
With the 'invisible' button, on all ROMs I tried(EvolutionX, Pixel Experience, HavacOS...) when the screen is off and you press it, the phone turns on, but once the screen is on it dones't work anymore. I didn't miss it actually, because I use navigation gestures, so the only moment I used was to turn it on. I don't know if that answers your question... Also I didn't find any options to modify pressure sensitivity on settings.
If you still have any questions feel free to ask me!

Oh yeah that's bad. My phone also overheated when I tried it however I thought it could be because I overclock it's CPU. My main problem was the camera didn't work almost all times and I needed to restart the phone continuously, so I went back to NezukoOS.
I also liked ONE UI however I don't know if that happened to you but my phone was very slow on ONE UI and animations almost all times were very laggy. That's why I start using AOSP, and also because I really like the new features.

I don't bo back because of various reasons. First and more important, it's starting to be obsolete and Android 12 is going to be released in August I think, which makes android 10 be 2 years old. Also this customs ROMs give a lot of features that I don't find on the original ONE UI, like caffeine. Finally, performance. My phone was slow and laggy on stock firmware but now its super fast, as if it was brand new. Hope this help you decide.

The ROM was good and seem to be stable however it didn't have a function which for me was crucial, smart charging (charges your phone only to 80% to slow down its degradation) so I went back to NezukoOS. Arrow OS and AOSP are in general don't have bloatware and useless applications preinstalled however if you don't want a lot of features PixelExpirience(not the plus version) is going to be good for you. It's simple, very smooth and almost identical to a Google Pixel experience. LineageOS and ArrowOS however have more features built-in.
Hope this helps you choose!
