Is the black version a soft-touch finish like the original N5? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

That has a real premium feel, and I wouldn't mind having one of these if it feels similar to the in the hand to the original N5.

Hands on initial impressions seem to say it's very similar. Not exact but similar and good.

I find the back slippier than my 5

It feels very similar to the red N5. Not soft touch, not glossy slippery. I find it pretty grippy.

Matte plastic like the white and red Nexus 5, but no rubberized soft touch coating as with the black Nexus 5.
Less slippery feeling than the white Nexus 5 as the matte plastic goes along the sides as well, rather than being glossy there.

It sure feels like my N5, but my dad has it now, so I can't compare side by side. It's a good feel and is grippy, much better than the glass back of my S6E.

[Q] White owners - battery cover

For the folks who have the white model, does the battery cover have the same rubbery texture as the black cover?
I've been looking for oem white covers and they appear to have a glossy plastic finish. Not sure if these are authentic oem or just generic.
cheap glossy plastic finish. those are authentic. I put a skin on it to prevent it from scratching because it is easily scratched.
IMO, the black cover is much nicer and more durable. Won't scratch as easy and less likely to have the phone slip out of your hand.
Yes sadly its a clean glossy finish. I would have preferred the rough texture from the black one but tibia what it is. It certainly doesn't make it feel cheap and by all means doesn't increase the slippery factor as most people a hands tend to be moist. Unless your hands are severely dry then you wont find that an issue. Also its nit like your flinging your phone all over the place like a wii remote. I hardly care for it though....its covered up 99% of the time

I always thought the black cover was the same glossy slippery feel as the white.
Anyways, I have the incipio feather case on it, Blue on White
Ahh.. that's too bad. It would've been killer if it was just like the black cover. Oh well.. thanks folks.

Diztronic Slippery

I'm looking to buy a $10 diztronic case for my s3 but the matte everyone says it's too slippery and the high gloss seems like my fingers would stick and leave fingerprints.
What's your opinion on it before I decide to buy it?
I had the clear matte version and now the flat black matte version. Neither of them are slippery by any means. It's definitely less slippery than the bare phone itself.
There were a few I've purchased that were when I first got them. I've bought them for all my phones. Matte black every time. Work it a bit. Event wash it off. Seems like there's some powdery stuff on it, dust, something. It's worth it.

Totally personal preference....Gloss is tacky and hence has more grip but fingerprints show up. Matte smooth to the touch and not tacky at all and hence more slippery. My preference is I like how matte looks but how gloss works....I usually pick gloss over matte tpu.

Bought the dark blue matte case to go with my pebble blue s3.. as far as I'm concerned, it's perfect. Definitely way less slippery than phone alone, tacky enough to prevent minor g-force sliding in my car too. Case wears well around my kindergarten age child too.
I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.
I loved the matte case, didn't seam overly slippery. My battery cover did develop a crack where the camera opening is. Don't know if it was the case but since I removed it and got a new phone the crack has not come back.

amCase Ultra Slim-Fit Case Review + Pictures

amCase Ultra Slim-Fit Case
There has been a lot of slim cases like the Rearth Ringke slim, spigen and others. The amCASE ultra slim is a bit different than the others.
First, its thin alright. Fits well and not much wiggle room when in the case. The back has a nice soft matte grip finish, No corner was sharp but a nice smooth rounding on all sides/corners. There is some lift ont he bezel around the phone so it lifts the phone just a bit to prevent scraching the glass on the front when setting it face down on a table.
The amCase differes in that there is no bezel by the buttons on the phone. While it makes it have even less protection than other slim cases; it makes it a lot easier to take it off and on. The Rearth slim I have has just a good fit but the buttons would always get caught when taking it off or on.
It doesn't add much protection on the bottom or sides which is nice to have complete free access to all the ports/seakers.
This is definitely not a case if you're clumsy with your phone but there to prevent the small drops or scratches. Very minimalistic and good construction witht he added bonus of the easiest to take on and off of the phone than other slim cases
This is my kind of case. I presently have the rearth slim. It's the only case for me, so far. This looks like a great option for those of us who like the more professional look vs the bling, bulky, rubber, two piece, colored type cases. I'll have to try one. Is the logo (boo hiss btw) raised or etched in any way or is it just printed?
Nexus5
almost bought this case, but reviewers had issues with the matte finish coming off after a week.
Please update your review after couple weeks on the fit and finish.
thanks

just printed on. I'm sure it'll start rubbing off soon enough
I only used the amcase on my nexus 4. The first one I had was amazing. The second started peeling almost immediately.
I just received my new one for the nexus 5. It has a slippery soft feel that is really disappointing.

This guy has a video review of it and shows the case peeling pretty badly at all 4 corners.

[Q] Black Leather Back

Anyone else very surprised with the "leather back" not feeling like leather? To me it feels like plastic.
Feels like leather to me. Tap it with your fingernail, or scratch it then do the same to something plastic and see if it feels the same.
It felt like plastic to me when I felt it. I was disappointed.
The black leather does have a different feel than the brown leather. If you did a blindfold test and rubbed your hand over the black leather, you might think it was a plastic back with texture.

official fabric case

Just looking to see everyone's a experience with these
I have one and Idk if my hands are small but I find its hard to grip and feels also slippery...
Just me?
I have the light gray one with the mint green power button on my white 3 XL and yeah it's slippery. I love the aesthetics and feel, but it is slippery. When I prop the phone up against something to watch a video in landscape mode, it just slides out.
I had the fabric case for the 2 XL and returned it because it was indeed slippery in the hand it was also more chunky than the current generation. Fast forward to today, I own the spigen rugged case for my new 3XL, and I bought the fabric case to give it a try. It's a lot more slim, and coverage on the front corners is questionable if it took a direct hit when dropped. I can say that it is not so much slipper in the hand. It is moreso grippy than last year's, but still doesnt grip on hard surfaces like when being propped up as one of the other replies suggested. For now, the spigen is staying in a drawer at home. I prefer the look, feel, and prestige of the fabric case.

Love the fabric case! Also had one for 2xl and as nice as that one was, the newer one is better. It's slimmer, grippier (not a word), and has better coverage along bottom. It looks great and the fit is perfect, along with the buttons being nice to press too.
The only downside, mentioned by others but not necessarily shared by me, is that the lip is on the smallish side.
I don't have an issue with the lip. If you lay it on a flat surface the glass does not touch so that's good by me.
I also have the Bellroy leather case (super nice) and just ordered the Simply Carbon Fiber case which I'm hoping is as nice as it looks.
im using the indigo on my pixel 3 xl , but i just noticed something i took the phone out of the cover to wipe it ,
i saw a deep scratch on the left side , i did not use my phone without cover . but i think a dust was inside the side and with squeeze feature the phone got scratched.
always check inside the cover
