How to flash custom rom - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all..i have purchased the sprint version of g3..the ls990..and i have rooted it using stump root..now i want to install custom roms and update to lollipop since my phone is on 4.4.2 currently please guide me for all of the steps including installing cwm and twrp recovery..and since im a noob i dont know about all this so please keep this in mind..thanks.

On kitkat:
either option A
1. install twrp manager and press install twrp
or
option B
1. install flashify from playstore
2. download this, extract "recovery.img" from the zip
3. flash the recovery.img with flashify
_____________
Use quickboot from playstore to boot into recovery

What's the current firmware revision... ZV4? I assume so since ZV6 blocks Stump Root. If that's the case, then you'll need to install Bump'd TWRP...

Can you explain the backup? What does it say? What twrp version is it?

Backup fails when generating md5..can u explain this?

No I can't. Try disabling md5 checking and don't enable compression.

If you have an unlocked BL, you should never need to use an exploit for root.

This is how I got rooted:
1) Download CWM and SuperSU in the #2 post here (only CWM recovery works for the razr m 4.4.2 for now)
2) Move the SuperSU zip file to your external SD card
3) Install CWM by adb fastbooting it
4) Reboot phone back into recovery (type fastboot reboot in command line then immediately hold down the UP volume after you hit enter
5) Flash the SuperSU zip file that is in your external SD card
6) Reboot phone
7) Wait about 1-2 mins until everything loads up (including SuperSU) {I had to wait this long}
8) Check root with root checker
9) Voila!

That should be a correct assumption as, without it, CWM can't be installed.

when i launch it, i see the Matt DOS Window, but when i press a key to coninue the window closes...
ok now it works, i download another time and launch it...
but it doens,t flash anything, i use mfastboot, a reboot, then poweroff and i try to go to custom recovery, but not works...
You can't use that utility to flash a recovery on 4.4. The recovery in that utility is not compatible with 4.4. You need to get the CWM recovery out of the Razr HD forum and flash via ADB.
I got a Razr M yesterday its on official KK and the bootloader is Locked, i don't know anything about moto devices only used htc, samsung, sony and i know about fastboot, adb, flashing roms, kernels, recovery etc on these devices, so i need a little assistance (links/tutorials/guides) to unlock, root and some device specific fastboot functions.

Marshmallow root and Xposed

Hi,
I need some advices before I brick my phone again. I tried to use ImageprepGUI to root my phone and install TWRP. Unfortunately my phone got hard bricked and I had to take it for service. I don't want to do it again. So I'd like to ask you for the right procedure.
What I have: LG G3 D855 32GB with stock Lollipop
What I want: Marshmallow with root and Xposed, preferably CyanogenMod. But stock with root and Xposed is also OK. Whatever is easier.
My idea would be to root the phone using Kingroot. Then install TWRP using AutoRec. Then flash CM ROM. Does it make sense?
Or should I install Marshmallow first and then do the root? What is the safest and easiest way?
And the last question. What is it Bump? What is a "bumped" ROM? I could not find an answer for this.
Thank you!
1. Root https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347803646
2. Use autorec from the thread and install cm later on
All custom roms on g3 are bumped(have bumped kernels), otherwise it wouldn't boot

Hvala lijepo.
This time it worked fine and I have CM13 nightly installed. I absolutely don't understand what went wrong the last time.
glad it worked. While mostly it's enough to read thoroughly sometimes things happen that are unpredictable

would you happen to know if this same method can be used for rooting D850 21R? i see you have the apk for 21R for autorec, but i am seeking confirmation somewhere that 21R is rootable... i just purchased this variant on swappa.
thank you!
Yea, you can root d850 with it. Only verizon 5.1.1 will not work(and 6 ofc)

[Moto g6 play] Is there a way to downgrade after an OTA update

So I tried rooting my phone and it didn't work because I already installed the latest OTA update. Is there any way to downgrade to stock before the update so that I can root it?
I have the boost mobile variant
Sorry. I'm really new to all of this.
I really appreciate the help.
I'm not familiar with what the root process is for your device or what firmware versions are available. Is there a working twrp recovery for the G6 Play? If that's the case you should only need to boot twrp and flash magisk 16 via twrp. It should take care of the rest.

I don't think there is twrp recovery before the OTA update. I haven't came across one. I messed with my phone the other day trying to root it and got the boot loop, and I found a twrp recovery file the the LATEST update using that.

Can you link to the twrp and root method? I have never heard of twrp being dependent on a specific firmware version. Root can be dependent on a firmware version for sure.

How to root Mi A2 lite?

Is there any way, in this moment?
I would like to root and put TWRP on my device...I know there is no TWRP yet for this model and it's not problem. But how to root?
TWRP is not ready yet, but you can root with magisk, there is a guide in this forum.

Thank you very much.
I found that earlier but it's lot much job just for root and in that case phone will be factory reset. But I do not want to set up my phon several times.
Will wait for TWRP and then will root.

to use twrp you need to unlock the bootloader too, so you still hace to do the factory reset.
I know that...I already unlocked bootloader

So you don't have to reset the phone, you can install Magisk without losing anything.
How?
I installed Magisk manager app, but how to install Magisk.zip? Because manager without .zip does not work, of course
Rename to update.zip and install over stock recovery?

You should extract boot.img from fastboot ROM and patch it with magisk then flash it with fastboot.
Ok...I know that process...I thought there's another way. In that way I have to setup my phone again...twice was just fine
thank you

how do i flash magisk on twrp?

hi,

so it's kinda a catch 22 here, i can't root because i need to root to be able to move the zip file to root with magisk, some people suggested to use a usb otg, but i dont have any,

You can get root by patching the boot file (instruction somewhere). After that you can do anything you want.

Nevermind, I did what Hoang told me, unlocked the boot loader, get the boot.img file from the stock rom on xiaomi's website, move it to my phone, open the magisk manager app, patch the boot.img, moved it to my PC, then go to fastboot mode and on the PC type "fastboot boot [drive-letter]:/path/to/the/patched_boot.img", then open the magisk manager app then click install(recommended) then reboot, install root checker and done!
You can find the tutorial here:
miuitutorial.com/2018/10/praktekkan-tutorial-berikut-jika-ingin.html?m=1
(Can't post links because I'm still a junior member)
It's in Indonesian but you can use Google translate
The problem with this method is that the magisk manager app will be removed when you update the Android to the next patch, so you will need to find the latest ROM with the updates and patches included,
Thanks for replying to my thread,
Tristan

In the instruction they also show how to update without removing Magisk, is that not works?
You can patch the image and flash, load it via mtp or use an sdcard. Also the files are not at /emulated/stuff but simply either at /external storage or .sdcard
