FreedomPop UK sim card - Elephone P8000

This was first flagged up by @ShootistUK on the Eragon ROM development thread but thought I would open a thread for it here as the other thread is getting long and is probably not the place to discuss this sim card.
Mine arrived today and I have spent many hours trying to get it working in my phones(Galaxy S3, Moto G 4G as well as the P8000) - I did manage to send and receive a text and make a call after installing their own messaging app(which they tell you to do) but so far have not managed to get data working at all despite it being basically a 3UK sim so it should use the same apn I would guess. I already have 3 other 3UK sims so am quite well versed in getting them working but so far the freedompop one has defeated me!
Hopefully ShootistUK will let us know if he has had any success(I doubt or if there is anyone else who has one of these sims please let me know.

Well, you have had more success than me. I fail to even get the application to work. It always gives me an error about using up all my premium minutes (or something similar) and to turn wifi off which does nothing at all to help. However I cannot get my 3-2-1 sim from 3 to work unless I make it the default data sim which pretty much defeats the object of having the sim in the phone alongside my vectone unlimited sim.

Hmmm, interesting - so your main sim is your vectone one(which is an EE mvno) - The problem with the 3 sim is that it cannot function in 2G mode and the p8000 doesn't allow you to run both sim slots in 3G mode so you are going to lose some functionality somewhere. What is your ideal setup by the way? I suspect it's not going to be achievable unfortunately...I am currently running my 3-2-1 sim as default for data/sms/calls and have a Vodafone payg as backup in case there's no 3 signal(so really for calls and the odd text too. I also have a tpo sim which I could use for backup but I don't think I can use the FP + 3-2-1 together and in fact can't even get the FP one fully working by itself. I may try again tomorrow in a different location in case it was a case of weak signal?? I'm sure I saw that error too but I'll see if I can replicate that issue again!

Well I have got both sims functioning at the moment by enabling default data sim as the 3-2-1 sim (but disabling data in the other menu so it doesnt use the data connection) and relying on wi-fi at home and work. At least this way I can receive and make calls/texts on both sims even though I can not use mobile data on the vectone sim and do not want to use the data on the payg sim. This is not in anyway a perfect solution but I suppose an issue with dual sim phones.

Yes, that's not ideal I guess but at least the vectone sim functions in 2G mode, I don't think it's possible to get two 3-2-1 sims working together.

Well I will now see if I can get my 3 pay monthly sim to work in the phone instead of the 3-2-1 sim using the same method. Just very annoying that they only work together if I have disabled data on the vectone and enabled and disabled the data on the 3-2-1 sim. Is there anyway to get the 3-2-1 sim and another sim working together with the data set to the non 3-2-1 sim? I like vectone for the price but willing to get another provider if I can get them to co-exist.

So you enable the data in the sim cards settings and disable in the data usage section, is that correct?

Simple answer is yes, make the 3-2-1 sim the preferred data sim and then disable the data in the data usage menu. Then both sims work for calls and sms. If i need mobile data I then make the vectone sim the data sim which turns the 3-2-1 sim off.

yeah that's a bit of a clunky solution but it's the only one that'll work unfortunately but you won't be able to get 2x 3UK sims working on 3G/4G at the same time I suspect...

need help figuring this out with my sim

i have the gt-i9250 and i always used an at&t sim with it with out an issue, recently i wanted to switch to t-mobile (thinking the phone should be unlocked considering it was an international phone and was the yakjuxw than i flashed it to yakju which was wierd cause i had google wallet on it and it was working fine although i only thought it was compatible with takju, but anyway all and all i put it to the usa firmware of takju 4.0.4 not going to jellybean yet, but my issue is that i am not able to use the t-mobile sim card in it and i get this (look at screenshot where signal is) what does this mean and how come i cant get signal, when i go to settings and mobile networks it shows me the apn for t-mobile us but not selected so i select it than after i go to mobile networks and it shows t-mobile and at&t and when i click any of them they tell me its unable to connect and it cant connect to the network at this time, so what would this mean and how would i fix it so that i can use it with my t-mobile sim card, also i flashed the newer NA radio uglc1.
That is weird. It should work on either of them. It just means you have no signal. That is strange. You could've actually just popped the Sim right in. It didn't matter if you were using a ROM
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Is the SIM activated for sure? I know when I switched to the T-mobile $30 plan it took it a good 15 minutes or so to activate, and then I didn't actually get signal until rebooting the phone for whatever reason.
Did you reboot your phone?
Although you can sometimes hot plug a sim card by turning on flight mode, taking the sim card out and toggling flight mode a few times, it won't work sometimes.
probably your cell imei not free and therefore can not change your sim.
There is an application called "****docomo" worth to release the imei. Make a backup just in case

Don't think he has a SIM unlock problem. Considering that it was working with AT&T, which never had a locked version of the GNex, I think he's having another issue.
I'd tell the OP to make 100% sure that his new T-Mobile SIM is activated and not defective, then try a few reboots and swaps back to the old SIM and do some troubleshooting. If it's the phone and not the SIM, its likely a mobile network registration error or an APN issue.
Looking in the notification bar, it seems like the phone doesn't think there's even a SIM inserted. Make sure you didn't damage a pin in the SIM tray, and that the SIM is properly inserted and clean. I don't think you'd get this error of "no SIM" if your phone was locked. If that was the case, the phone would recognize the SIM and prompt for an unlock code, which you're not getting.

[Q] Data features on the HTC M8 dual Sim

Dears,
Am in the process of researching/buying an HTC M8 dual SIM phone, can someone please advise if it is feasible to STOP Mobile DATA on a certain line (Ex: Line1) and ENABLE Mobile Data on the other line (Ex: Line2).
Thanks for all your help.

Bad dual sim management
Better late than never, right?
You find "dual sim management" in the phone's settings.
This is where you can activate and deactivate each sim and where you set the preferred sim for mobile data.
So, yes, you can easily switch the sim that's being used for mobile data.. However, the BIG restriction is, that the sim 2 radio only supports 2G (up to EDGE). So, in order to use high speed internet from the provider whose sim is located in slot 2 you actually have to swap the sim cards. Also, there's no way to automatically switch to the other network's mobile data in case you lose mobile data coverage on the preset network . You really have to tell the phone manually which network to use.
Another big issue for me is that I can't preset the network I use for calls. So, my sim 1 is for data only. sim 2 is for voice calls and texts. Remember: it has to be this way because only sim 1 supports 3G/4G. Now, when I initiate a call via voice or via my car's bluetooth unit the phone automatically tries to use sim 1 as the default for calls. I can't set it up to use sim 2 as the default call handler and there's no dialogue asking me which sim to use like when I dial manually. That's really bad, all other companies that offer dual sim phones have better management options in their software's settings.
I tried using alternative phone apps which give you the option of choosing a default sim for calls but this only works for voice-dialing; bluetooth still overrides the alternative dialer and always goes with the stock one.
I hope this helps - so actually I'd advice agaist the M8 dual sim despite it being beautiful and having really good hardware.

Dual SIM Data issue: after reboot always on wrong SIM

Hey champs,
I got a strange issue with the swift. Last year I bought 3 Swifts for my wfe and kids. All of them equipped with two SIMs (1&1 for wired phone connections only, Simyo for cheap data flatrate and calls to mobile phone numbers). All phones have been upgraded to Android 6 so far. We use dual sim selector pro to do the call routing to the correct SIM, works like a charme. But regardless what I set in mobile data settings, after reboot the mobile data will always connect to 1&1 mobile networks (in fact it is vodafone) giving us one time a very high bill.
In the meantime I amended the vodafone APN to get rid of it, but this only leads to the situation, that after a reboot there is no mobile data at all. And since my son's phone is locked by funamo parental control, he is even not capable of swithcing mobile data by the settings.
Is there any chance to make the setting permanent? Is there any API call available, so I can get it managed e.g. by tasker? Is there an app available, that deals with data settings on dual SIM phones with Qualcom chipset?
Tnx in advance!
Glad to see I am not the only one with a problem, I live in Spain and use Orange SIM for data and voice, I also have a tesco voice only SIM which I use when in UK. Fine. I have exactly the same problem after a reboot or flat battery, "No Data Connection" when I check the settings it has changed to Tesco (which does not have data) Its only the data scource SIM that changes - voice and SMS remain as Orange. It is very annoying.
Same problem here with stock Android 6.0.1 Cyanogen OS 13.0-ZNH0EAS2NH and EE sims in slot 1 and 2... (one work and other personal).
Was thinking of returning phone, but apart from this problem, I really like it.
Latest Cyanogen OS update, (just installed), appears to have fixed my problem...
I updated, did a battery pull just for good measure, and with several restarts, the correct SIM appears to be selected each time.

Dual SIM Issue

Hello there,
Im getting trouble to get the dual sim working properly.
First of all my setup : OOS 3.2.7, rooted, some xposed modules, nothing fancy. Stock kernel
SIM1: Data SIM, o2 germany
SIM2: Just used to receive some texts, all APNs deleted, Carrier : Orange/Sosh France
In normal usage SIM1 is deactivated. In this case everything works flawlessly.
As soon as I activate SIM2 i run into trouble. I loose data on SIM1 almost instantly and the only way to recover it is usually a reboot.
When i loose data the "LTE"/"H"/"3g"/whatever icon disappears, data is still on in the settings.
I noticed that at least once both sims were connected on UMTS when it occured.
Any clue to keep my data connection working when both sim cards are active?
Thank you in advance

VoWiFi over second "data SIM" - is it possible?

Hey!
My network operator supports VoWiFi feature, which i'm using a lot. I'm traveling quite often and using VoWiFi i can use voice services using domestic prices worldwide.
I have dual SIM card phone, in the second slot i have data sim.
Here the question comes - is there any way to configure a phone to use VoWiFi feature over data connection from the second SIM?
Essentially VoWiFi feature requires just internet connection, so in theory such approach should work, but do not know if it is possible to configure the phone this way.
Would appreciate any help
Gentlemen,
Any help would be appreciated.
I do have workaround - to use the second phone, share WiFi from it and then i can use VoWiFi on my main phone. But it' super inconvenient - you always need to care 2 phones.
If you know any apps/solutions please let me know.
I have dual SIM and I am able to have Wifi Calling enabled on both SIMs at the same time.
However - you are talking about VoLTE if you're talking about using the data connection on the second SIM rather than a WiFi connection.
Again, however, this should be possible - I can enable VoLTE on both SIMs. It's under Mobile Data in the Settings app...

VoLTE is different technology and is charged in my case differently. That's the reason i'm looking for an option to use data sim that the main sim uses this data connection for the call simulating "VoWiFi" and hence use domestic rates for the calls.
As i said above i can emulate this with two phones, but i still hope to find a solution where i can archive that with only one phone.
I'm looking for the same solution. My note 8 is rooted. The best I can do is set WiFi Calling as preferred over Network calling, but as soon as I activate Data for SIM#2, I lose WiFi calling and VoLTE for first SIM. Very inconvenient. Anyone have any clues how to force WiFi Calling using Data of SIM#2 ?
