Think my M7 is about to bite the dust - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Yesterday I noticed my phone hot and noticed the screen was bulging trying to separate from the phone body. I placed in my apt AC vent and most of the swelling went down. So figure time for a new phone but not going with HTC this time. I have had HTC since the droid incredible and figure time for a change.
My question to you is go for the galaxy S6 edge or the Verizon nexus 6. I am looking for a good camera and sorry HTC has let me down on many of the previous phones I owned. I will keep my old M7 as still workable but that just in case as don't want to be without a phone. This had been a great community with many great ROMs except that darn Google one that my phone seemed to not like as it would only send one text and no more lol.
So guess this is kinda farewell but never posted much in here lol. So let's see what all you guys and gals suggest. Not looking for a note as it has to fit in my works shirt pocket lol. Less chance of breaking there than in my pants pockets.

The Nexus 6 is bigger than the Note but its also available for $299 new right now if you don't mind a phablet phone. There are two new Nexus models available for preorder from the google store, the 5P and 6X. The Droid Turbo2 is supposed to come out later this month but Moto updates have been slow lately. I would also look at the LG G4 right now.
My buddy has the S6 Edge and he likes it but says the curved screen doesn't really add anything to the phone. I've also read some complaints about strange reflections due to the curved edges. If I had to get a Samsung today I would probably grab a used S5 off eBay in good condition for about $200. You get a sdcard slot and removable battery with the S5.
I currently have a Droid Turbo and like it but I just grabbed a M7 off eBay for cheap last night because I missed this phone. Also the wife has been complaining about her Moto X a lot so I will probably give her my Turbo to shut her up. Good luck with your new phone whatever it may be.

[Q] Thinking of buying the note 2

Almost 18 months ago I made a mistake and bought the LG optimus 2x. It had a horrible stock rom (so much lag) and a very bad battery life. Thanks to CM it is much better now. My contract is ending soon and I don't want to make another mistake like the last time.
I read a lot about the Samsung Galaxy note 2 the last couple of days and it has so many positive stuffs but I still have some questions about it
1: Some people are saying that the battery life of the note 2 is very good but I also read on this forum that some people are having bad battery life?
2: If you install an app does the note 2 lag? (yeh the lg 2x does:angel or is there any lag at all when using it?
To be true I don't see anything bad about this phone, I did read that the screen can break very easily if you let it fall but yeh that's a risk you always take.
Thank you!
1. Great battery life, don't think you can get better battery life with any other handset. You can get 6-8 hr screen on time with browsing and video playback.
2. I have over 200 apps installed and it naver lagged evwn for 1 sec.
Close your eyes, buy it and remember me in your prayers for giving you a good suggestion
sent from: The New S-Pen
1. I get anywhere from 5 to 8 hours on screen time. This is the only phone I've ever had that I didn't have to worry about bringing my charger with me.
2. Installing apps doesn't slow this phone down at all. I have several installed with absolutely no lag.
Just to add, this is the best device I've ever owned. I usually switch phones every 2 to 3 months, but I really believe this device will hold me over until the Note 3 releases.
Thanks to both of you! 5,5 inch will be so awesome!
What can i say, i ordered a screen protector and i am gonna order the phone tomorrow. I still don't know which case i should get because the flip cover doesn't protect the edges at all.

I just got mine 2 days ago. I am absolutely STUNNED by the battery life on this thing! Yesterday I was running some N64 games while watching some tv shows at the same time and the battery levels were only crawling down. I will say it takes a while to get this thing to a full charge but man oh man is it worth it.. I went to this from an Infuse 4G and it blew my mind, you will not be disappointed with this phone! As for the screen covers, I always clutch onto my phones and work in a low pace environment so I don't have to worry about dropping it, the Samsung OEM screen cover is really nice and keeps the screen from getting scratched while in my pocket, and makes the phone just look that much more slick!
I have got mine... my battery life is a day. Gaming useage and emails. Currently on 9%. Love everything about it... the TouchWiz with note orientated features. I also have a 2X which i really loke running stock ICS from LG.
However, HTC Droid DNA or the international version looks tempting.

Thanks!
I did check the HTC Droid DNA but the battery of that device doesn't make me look amazed at all. I ordered martin fields screen protectors but it will take a while till i receive them so it's great to hear that the Samsung OEM screenprotectors are good. The only thing i am still worried about is which case i need to get. I think i will go for the flip cover of samsung.
Ordered a white Galaxy note 2! Should be here in 2 days , Thanks everyone for the advice and help!
Check out the flygrip. I'm using it on my S3 and it makes the phone so much more comfortable to hold and use one handed, I can't wait to use it on my Note 2(if Verizon ever releases the damn thing). But yeah, it actually comes with a pretty nice(free) case that covers all of the edges.

Trading Note II for HTC One?

as the title says, anyone with a Note II thinking about ditching it for a One? don't get me wrong, i love my N2, but it's something about it that i don't like. maybe its the size, and coming from a G2, the plastic annoys me also. I'm just not sure if I want to give up the screen real estate, and the powerful battery.
On the other hand, the one is GORGEOUS, the camera is better, and i dont mind giving up the LED display for a 468(?)ppi display. Plus, i prefer Sense over any other version of android. its much more polished.
any thoughts?
Think you answered your own question here really. It's simply a better quality device. Win factor!

I just sold my Sprint Note 2 for $550, with the HTC One in mind. I figured I'll sell now while the phone could feach a pretty penny.
I too love the N2 but its size does somewhat get annoying. I figured I could try the HTC One and if I don't like it I could resell that and by then the GS4 will be announced.
Its basically a never ending cycle of phone for me.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
I'll be selling mine as well. I'm not a huge HTC or Sense fan, but this phone is too sexy to pass up.
I'm thinking about it. I am expecting the screen on the One to be the best you can find on the market judging by the HTC One X's Super LCD 2 is the best that I have used so far. So I am likely to switch over, the only thing that's making it difficult is a great battery and I actually enjoy the screen size.
The Note 2 I had already went to my dad A long time ago. I still use my old DHD
Why? I just hate the plastic feel.
The WORST part of the Note 2 was that it would take 2 seconds to turn on the screen... I couldn't stand it after 2 weeks and gave it to him.
Why do Samsung devices take so long to wake? It is for that reason I am hesitant to buy the GS4.
There are only two reasons anyone should consider the N2 in the first place:
- They are heavy productivity users and get a lot of use out of S Pen, S Note, multiview, airview, etc.
- They want the 5.5" display to try and have a single device double as a phone and a tablet.
Since OP didn't mention either of those two things he probably should have gotten a high-end smartphone and not have had to deal with the N2's enormous size. The N2 was never meant to compete with the likes of the SGS3, One X, and Optimus G and neither the One nor SGS4 will have the productivity features of the N2 so they aren't real competitors either. A lot of people bought the N2 only because it was "shiny and new" rather than for what it could do. They are the ones that create threads like this. So, OP, get the One as it’s probably a lot more suited to your needs than the N2 ever would be.
As for "plastic." Samsung's devices are as well built and durable as HTC's. To allow for the removable battery a lot of people still consider important they have paper thin plastic back covers that peel off to allow access to the battery. It's a design choice to accommodate function. The design's been that way since the SGS2 came out. With ten times more SGS3's sold than One X's (an admittedly more handsome device) the public would seem to be OK with it. And the N2's internals are made of magnesium (item 3 below) which is an expensive (but light) alloy to work with.

yeah, i didn't get it for the TW features. after a few weeks i put paranoid on it. but i did get it to double as a phone and tablet. if i do get the one, i'll have to get used to a normal sized phone not running phablet mode. but i didn't get it because it's "shiny and new". like i said , i needed something that doubles as a phone and tablet. but on a day to day thing, it gets uncomfortable sometimes.
but samsung devices are not as durable as most HTC phones, plastic just can't stand up to metal/aluminum. imo, the galaxy s iii outsold the one x because it was on 5 different carriers (and of course samsungs amazing marketing). the one x being exclusively on AT&T is the reason i didn't get it. & it doesn't too much matter what the inside of your phone is made of when you drop it and the cheap material on the outside can't protect the phone from damage.

Based on what? There were as many One X/L/+'s with displays cracked from drops as there were SGS3's and N2's. HTC had tons of issues with the Teg3 One X including public acknowledgment that the design caused Wi-Fi issues on some devices because of tolerances not met in the production process. And most of HTC's recent phones have been plastic too. Here's what happens to the matte finish on the One X(s) and DNA/Butterfly when exposed to any kind of abrasion. So I totally get that people like HTC's designs better (I do too) but that doesn't make them more durable.
And here's what happens to aluminum-backed devices with wear.

HTC took the best deal they could get. I'm sure if VZW and T-Mobile (Sprint did sort of) wanted to sell the One X they wouldn't have ended up in an AT&T exclusive. The One X was a beautiful device with a fantastic display cursed with an undersized battery and laughable storage on the XL and adequate storage on the One X. HTC's 2012 with the One's was their worst in history in terms of revenue, margin, and market share and that takes in to account worldwide sales not just what happened here in the U.S. I'm sure that wasn't what they were planning on when the One's were in R&D. Any how or why Samsung outsells them is less important than the fact HTC will be out of business soon if they don't come up with a formula to drastically improve sales. Let’s hope the One is a step in that direction.

A uni-body design (One X/One) can't distribute impact as well as a modular design. You'll see the battery cover fly off a Samsung device in most drop tests. That's a by-product of the energy of the impact being dissapated. Here's a N2 that survived a drop from 5'.
And here's a Samsung device being torture tested.
I was a very happy Teg3 One X owner and wouldn't hesitate to buy another HTC device if it met my needs. I'm using an N2 now and happy with it too but that doesn't mean I've suddenly become a Samsung fan-boy. Every device and the manufacturers that build them have strengths and weaknesses and it's not blasphemy to talk about them.

yay welcome, really liked the stock slim rom that you made for the note 2!
Well, I just bought myself a Note 2 and love it wouldn't ditch it for a htc one!
hmmm... now I looked at the pictures from the camera... damn
I must say they are pretty different!
Note 2 is a 5.5'' while One is 4.7'' so it's a big difference in screen size
Note 2 is all plastic a la samsung meaning c.r.a.p. while the One is premium aluminum body
So if you don't like huge screen smartphones but prefer a 1080p delicious screen with Terminator build phone switch the damn phone
Seeing that this phone was not intended to go up against htc one, it sure is holding it own. Most post I reading only problem with the note is the material it made from. I say isn't this the reason we have insurance and for all those that are prone to dropping their phone..get a good case. Why do I need a phone that is waterproof? How many times are you going to drop it into the toilet? I got my note because I want phone and tablet and the note has lived up to that. I like the spec's of the one and if I was to cross over it would be because I want a new toy. Not because of some lame excuse the phone is aluminum.

I love the size of the note 2. I've always been partial to htc. I've had the opportunity to play with them side by side and I will have to adjust to a smaller screen. Yes, 4.7 is quite small after using the note 2.

Like I said this argument would be valid if we were comparing to same things. I would argue about beats headphones vs Boise. I wouldn't argue a BMW (luxury car) vs an economy car. The consumer is buying for different reasons. BMW consumers has money and therefore it looks and feel pretty is okay. Economy consumers are on a budget therefore the question for them is can it get me from point a to point b.

Wow. I've been using HyperDroid ROMs on my Note2 and I'm very happy to see you here!
And to the topic: my feelings with Note2 are absolutely same as OP. I hate the plastic and I never use s-pen. Its going to be my first HTC Android phone (had Titan 'bout year ago).
I'm seriously considering it, as much as I love the note 2 it feels too big in my hands. The One has a beautiful design, great screen, high ppi and those dual speakers are all things that attract me to it. But I'm waiting for the SGS4 reveal and user experience before making any decisions, I want to know how good the battery life is and if the gpu throttling is going to ruin the gaming experience on the device. If the phone holds up and the rumored specs of the SGS4 turns out to be true, I'm more than likely getting the One in black. But I will miss the expandable memory and amazing battery life of the Note though. Only time will tell

Cant wait to get my OGP this monday!!

Oh man how do I start? Well I just wanna share to everyone how I feel!. It was almost a month of researching on forums, internet, videos etc on what should I get, either the note 2 or OGPro. Note 2 was my first choice because of slighlty better battery life, but I realize that OGP is just way better on every aspect .Very smooth UI, no lag, and the display is awesome!!
I already got some accessories for my OGP. I got the external wall charger from ebay, the Hyperion slim battery from amazon, and this awesome flip case with stand! Name of the flip/stand case is Nilkin btw, I just checked amazon and the only thing available now is from china, coz I ordered one from a Us seller and got it really fast like 3 days after I ordered it.

Mine should here next week, and I can't wait either. I want to see how it will compare to my Note 2. The screen does look much better than the Note 2.
A bit diffrent here, i was choosing between S4, htc one or optimus G Pro..and found g pro suit my preference...and I love it. Having played with S4 for a while...I like this one better

Well my original picked was htc one also, then I went to atnt to check it out and I felt the screen is too small now, plus I dnt think I can live with it since i like phonea w/ removable battery. Then it came down to juat note 2 ans OG. If i picked note2 im gonna pay $200 while ill grt oGpro for free since my s3's trade in value is around a 120. Plus coming from s3 to note 2 wont feel anything different except bigger screen and the stylus.

You gonna love the ogp. An excellent device all the way around. Great clarity and detail on 1080P screen and very powerful processor.
I'm especially loving my device now that I got my new ZeroLemon 9300mAh extended battery. I'm still on my first charge cycle. I have over 12.5hrs of on-screen time and still have 12% battery left. This battery won't die. Likely at least 2-3 more hours of on-screen time left. Unbelievable and it will only get better I I go through more charge cycles. I've been trying very hard to burn it out so I can plug up for next charge cycle. So it'll be ready when.I go to work.in the morning. I highly recommend this battery. The little extra thickness is nothing compared to this battery life I'm getting. Phone still fits in my pocket fine.
Great phone. I've barely used my tablets since I got it.
Omg op I love you like a fat kid loves cake!
I have been looking for a leather flip case that doubles as a stand like I had for my note and that's exactly it..
Not sure how I missed it but thanks again..

The US variant supports Qi charging out of the box. The flip cover also has an inductive charging coil built in. I can't say with any level of certainty whether any non-US variants support Qi without the cover.

Holy mushrooms batman! I just tried it before reading this, and it works! I used my old Lumia 920 charger. That's sweeetttt! It's not even listed as a function on the LG website. Super weird that they don't market that more. There are only a few devices that do that straight out of the box (Lumia 920, Nexus 4, and OGP). NICE!
Omg!!! Finally got my OGP today!! And let me tell you this..THIS PHONE IS SO UNDERRATED!!! I mean what not to love about this device!?? The Display is soooo Gorgeous!! Leave the Note series for a phone with a smaller screen?

I'll start this off by saying I love my Note II, I use my phone for 1% calls, 99% other stuff. However, the appeal of the Nexus 5 or Moto X is undeniable. Having owned a previous Nexus, I like what they have to offer. With that being said, has anyone who left the Note II for a Moto X or phone with a smaller screen size regretted that decision? I'm torn between the upcoming Nexus 5 and the Note 3. All opinions appreciated.
I swapped my HTC one for a note2. I used the note for a couple months and loved the **** out of it. I swapped back for a one because no matter how much I loved playing with my note it was just a little inconvenient to carry around. 2 weeks after getting back to a one I am kinda regrettable. The beauty of that beast sitting out showing all that screen is something I really miss. I miss the screen size big time.

Any LG Flex Users got to a M8?

I have a LG Flex and like it a lot. Thinking on maybe getting the M8 and wondering if any Flex users have done the switch. What do you miss about the Flex and or if you regret it at all. Also how is the M8 battery compared to the Flex. The Flex battery life is what I like most about it. It's nice that I don't have to worry about charging my Flex untill I go to bed. I was going to try a Z2 but Sony is screwing up the release. I like what LG is doing and might get the G3 but kind of what a change since I had the G2 and Flex. Darm can't edit my title. lol
My roommate has the G Flex and the biggest change is the voice quality besides the 1080p screen. The voice quality (and sound in general) on the G Flex is mediocre at best.
When it comes to battery, they are both pretty comparable. The M8 has a more efficient processor and a faster user interface. My roommate is jealous of my M8 and would get one if the screen size matched (he's older and has a difficult time reading smaller text)

I owned the G2 as well. Honestly, i had no complaints other than the build quality. I just purchased the HTC One a couple days ago simply for a change of pace...... and I'm not disappointed. Other than the practically bezel-less display of the G2, the HTC One is perfect.
Some may argue that the camera is inferior than that of the G2's, It more then gets the job done. Fact is, it's a great device inside and out with build quality second to none.

Some may argue that the camera is inferior than that of the G2's, It more then gets the job done. Fact is, it's a great device inside and out with build quality second to none.

Yea at times I miss my G2 and it's development plus the size. If I got the M8 I would have to carry the phone naked since a case would defeat the feel of the phone. That's kind of risky after a some pbr's though. lol

Considering T-Mobile's HTC One is compatible with both AT&T's and the International version, development is plentiful and will continue to grow. I also can't bring myself to put a case on this device, but I am mindful that just one drop will ruin the entire experience of owning such a well designed device. For that reason alone, I hold it with both hands when in use. Lol
Hey sweets55, just picked up a m8 yesterday, so far I'm loving it.
I can't say for sure, but from my usage on the phone, the batteries of the flex and m8 are not comparable so far. I do like the screen size better. The one thing that made the flex superior to the m8 was the option to change the button layout on the navigation bar.

I came from Nexus and I absolutely love both phones. I like the m8 just a tad bit more. Camera is good but I feel can be better. I really feel HTC made the best phone to date. It's just over all balanced, well crafted and the software both sense and GPE is buttery smooth. I favor GPE much more

Coming from the TMO G2, I have to say that I love this device. Build quality is truly mazing and the way it just feels in your hand just screams flagship. The battery is lasting me the same as the G2 doing exactly the same things. Picture quality honestly is really good for me( I am not the one to be taking pictures all day long). The M8's display seems a little bit sharper to me.
the things I miss from the G2 are the pop up windows for mms and calls. I also miss the stock UI's customization.
Over all I am extremely happy that I gave HTC another chance. I have had the M8 exactly one week today and it is THE ONLY PHONE I HAVE not ROOTED out of the box.
Thinking of getting one as well, but really love the pop window for mms as well. That and just can't see the m8 battery holding up like the Flex. I do feel that I want a better screen and size is becoming an issue.
Might just hold out for a G3. Really digging LG's software.

I had my Flex sold for 20 more then what my asking price but got cold feet and couldn't pull the trigger on the M8. I just prefer a bigger phone then the M8. Going to wait for the G3 and or Z2 as well.

I have been rocking monster phones for awhile now. Dell Streak, Note 2 and now this. Sometimes I miss the smaller size for pocketbility and just doing general things. It's hard to use one hand with this device, even moving the navigation buttons.
Besides that and the older screen technology, it's an awesome phone!

The Flex doesn't seem as big as other phones like the Note 2. I'm thinking the G3 will be the perfect size.

The flex is a horrible phone. Over priced.
I owned it one day before marching it back. It had major ghosting issues, and is way too big. The curve is cool, and some of the software on it. I have a M8 now. My next purchase will b the LG og pro 2. Now that phone looks dope. Hoping someone in the states will get it.

LoL...^ I got $200 off my Flex and 6 months free of Netflix so I got a great deal on my Flex. I don't see how anyone can give a honest opinion on any phone after only 1 day using it. Just saying...No ghosting issues here but I keep my brightness always maxed and screen set to vivid. I can still make it 24hrs on one charge with heavy use. Never been able to do that before and my phone history is way to long to list. Lol. I have big hands so that might be why the Flex doesn't seem to big and the M8 feels small. Also I had the M7 and maybe the M8 isn't enough of a change for me. I like the Flex because it's different. It's kind of funny when people ask if I bent my phone.

Its extremely easy to judge a phone with a screen as bad as the Flex has in a single day. It hurt my eyes right off the bat. I don't know how my roommate tolerates it at all. Then again he rarely looks at it, he's not a power user like me. That and the horrendous voice quality was enough to seal my hatred for it on day 1

I disagree. Horrendous Flex voice quality and hurting your eyes those are new ones. LoL. You need at least 3 full days to a week to review any phone. Imo. It's funny how some people rush to judgement and don't give the phone a chance. I've read Flex reviews and they mention nothing about the battery life. That right there tells me they didn't use the phone for a day. The Flex battery life is one of best out today and the 720p screen helps that. I would rather have 720p screen with a large screen + power all time then a 1080p smaller screen and having to charge. If you set a 720p screen next to 1080p screen most peoole wouldn't know the difference. Heck I can't even tell that much and I'm picky as hell (most on here are). Some people are just spec happy. Like some people don't like that the M8 only has a 4mp camera and or the quality of pictures.

I agree with Sweet. It's hard to judge a phone after a couple days. It took me a good week to be content. You get used to the screen. Yeah it is 720 and not 1080, however it's not as bad as some people make it out to be. Some people just have to have the latest and greatest.
I can't agree on the size though. This is a huge phone. Much bigger than the N2. The Curve is a niche thing and hardly notice it anymore. It's cool at 1st, but quickly goes away.
What saves this phone, is its amazing battery life. I can stream Netflix a few hours a day and or teather it to my N7 and still get 15 hours off it with close to 7 hours on-screen time. That's incredible to me and haven't run across a phone that can compete.
Also standby time is unbelievable! 1% in 8 hours is like... WOW
Its just the size for me. Can careless IMO about the phone being spec'd out to the max.
Also call quality has been the best of any phone I have had. Not sure where people are having that issue.

How the hell can you give an honest opinion about a phone after only one day of use? I bought the Flex for two reasons. The first reason was the battery, I had a nexus 4 prior to getting the flex and the battery was horrendous. The second reason I bought the flex was because of the large screen and 6 months of Netflix that came with it.
Sure, the flex has its flaws, but what phone doesn't? I'll admit that at first I hated the flex because of two reasons. The first being the button layout for the volume and power buttons, that took a little time to get used to, but it eventually grew on me. Another reason that I didn't like the flex was because it was on 4.2 and T-Mobile is taking there sweet time to release it.
Saying a 720p screen hurts your eyes is a little much, don't you think so? I guess it was impossible for you to use a cellphone until the oppo find 5 came out (I think that it was the first phone to have a 1080p screen). Yeah it's extremely easy to judge the flex (or any phone for that matter) from one day of use. I swear, just about everyone is a spec whore. Bad voice quality? I think that the voice quality was a plus for a flex, it wasn't perfect, but it was better than the voice quality on most of the phones I've owned.
I've owned my m8 for a couple of days now and it definitely has its flaws, but instead of bashing it after only owning it for a couple days, I'm going to use it for a couple of weeks and give an HONEST opinion. But one thing that I can say for sure is that the navigation bar button layout just sucks, I've given it a chance on other phones, but I just hate not having a designated menu button.
@sweets55 I know, every time I pulled my flex out, people would ask me if I bent my phone or if I bought it that way lol.

Yea I didn't care for the M8 nav bar as well. I like my back button on the right. I use G2 Xposed to shrink the nav bar on my Flex. Not sure if you can do that with the M8. On screen nav bars take up screen space. I kind of miss Samsung phones since they don't take up screen space and a physical home button. I might get the G3 and then Note 4. LoL

The one thing I think Samsung did best was the layout of the buttons on the phone (menu, home and back). You can shrink the nav bar on the m8 with Xposed, but it gives you a huge back button (unless the height of the nav bar is changed to 40 and below). The S3 was my last Samsung phone and i'm not going back. Too many pointless features and way too much bloat. I really wish that HTC would add the option to change the buttons on the nav bar or let the users choose a certain button layout like LG did with their phones.
