Slippery matte back - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone else feel the finish on the back doesn't have as much grip as the nexus 5? I never use cases and hope with time the matte finish will get broken in and not feel slippery.

Thin "barely there" case

Im looking for a very perfect fitting case for my gnex, I love my naked phone so I'd like a pretty thin case just to prevent scratches and minimal drops. I want something that allows for easy pressing of the buttons as most cases make that pretty hard. Anyone have a great case they'd recomend?

i guess. the sgp and diztronic are both tpu cases, so there is no major difference. for the diztronic i like the button cutouts, don't have to worry if the case makes it hard to push buttons
incipio feather or the ringke are pretty thin cases

I have the case and no, it's not barely there. (Though I still like it for other reasons)
@OP, you should take a look at Rearth Ringke and SGP Ultra Hybrid.
I use the diztronic smoked gray translucent case. It looks nice being semi transparent, adds very minimal bulk, and comes with a nice screen protector. I ordered a skinomi also but haven't put it on yet because I don't really like the feel that type of protector gives, so the quality of the protector that came with my tpu case was a nice surprise.

You want one of these. They're like the ringke cases but a lot cheaper. They are surprisingly good quality.

do any of these thin cases fit with the extended battery? (2000mah)
Incipio has a great light case.
my other phone is a Nokia n900 maemo
Ringke slim fits the extended battery without the cover (cdma version). It's perfect for exactly what you described, small drops and scratches. Looks great too.

I carried my Nexus One for 2.5 years with out a case and had no problems. However, if you're going to get one, get an Incipio. I've got one on my Tab and it is really nice.

Thinking of buying the official Nexus 5 bumper case?

What are peoples experiences and thoughts of it? I know it's pricey but kinda OCD in that way where I like all my stuff official. Does it still stay slim yet have a premium feel to it?

I think its a bit too expensive for me. I hardly drop my phone and take very good care of it. But from the reviews online, its a well constructed case with a premium feel. So if budget isn't an issue, you can get that. And it does offer decent drop protection.
I am ordering the Tudia Wav Hybrid. The video sold me. Check out the drop test:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZyLInX4EsM
PLUS IT IS $9.99 72% off the regular price over at amazon!!! :good:
I just got mine in tonight. Will give you feedback in a day or so..
What I read was that the clear coat doesn't last as long and starts to peel...hopefully that doesn't happened...
I ordered the black one and I heard that the color ones is harder to see the peels.
What I like so far is that being that is is official..The case fits so perfectly without messing up my tempered glass screen protector; using iloome flex at the moment, MIME version is on the way

It's pretty awful, the non-black ones stain just from the color of your pockets and the coating rubs off of the black case.
Would not buy again.
Check on the thread regarding the LG hardshell which seemingly does exist and has the Nexus logo on the back.

Yup.
While waiting on the LG hardshell to become available I ordered some .99 ebay quicksand cases. Some good reviews on this forum and they are simplistic without any branding.

This is what some people have been seeing with their Nexus 5 bumper cases.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5oEj4hJsd0
The finish is peeling, and they have staining and discoloration.
There are better cases out there for cheaper. The only thing this one had going for it was the Nexus branding on it, but if the quality is crap there's no point.

Which Case?

Hi,
New phone has just arrived, which case is the best for the phone?
Looking for case that is durable and will withstand the odd drop.
I had the case mate on my s2 which was brilliant. Screen remained scratch free (no screen protector) even falling face down.
Is the case mate case for the N5 as good?
Open to alternative suggestions.
Cheers,
H
I can vouch for the Reath Ringke Fusion case. Quite slim, doesn't affect use too much but enough to provide more than adequate protection. Got both colors, get the black one. The grey looks bad in person. The back is customisable.
It is strong enough to withstand drops. But not facedown on gravel because the lip is very small.
Also you can look on ebay for some nilkin sand texture cases. They are actually very good if you want a slim case. lots of grip.
How about a spigen case? The slim armor is really a recommendation.
I went with the OEM bumper case. Figured Google would know best, and I wanted my phone to be protected the moment I took it out of the box. I do feel like something such as an otterbox would provide more protection though.

I don't really like the Ringke Fusion, there are sharp edges on the case. Thats what made me switch away from the case. Other than that its a good case.
I recommend spigen screen protectors and cruzerlite case. Look in the cruzerlite thread for pics

DIY bumper case + Nexus wireless charger

I was looking for a true bumper case to use with my Nexus wireless charger car dock. However it seems that there aren't any quality ones out there. So I bought a Rearth Ringke Fusion case, remove the back and made a bumper case out of it. =) It is slimmer than Spigen Neo Hybrid. The sides are stretchy enough that can be pushed outward a bit. I have never used a true bumper case before so I'm not sure if this kind of stretchiness is normal. The back is raised enough to protect the lens. I have dBrand skin installed so there is another layer of protection for the back/lens. Hopefully it will work like a true bumper case.
Looks nice! Was it hard tot remove the back of the case? I think i'll give it a try to!

It takes quite a bit of force to take it out but just keep on trying and eventually you can push it out for sure. I have only done this on a Ringke Fusion. Spigen Ultra Hybrid is another possible candidate. However I can't guarantee the back is removable.
I like that keyboard.

Friendly advice: Don't do it. I just did, and the bumper alone is super wobly = hardly any relevant protection for the phone + uncomfortable in the hand. Tomorrow, I'm buying a superglue to glue it back together
hey what base is that holding up the wireless charger?
thats pretty much exactly what i've been looking up. want to mock up something just like it.
That base is exactly what I am looking for as well. Could you provide some more info on it thanks.

New OEM (Google/LG?) snap on cases

http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/05/13/google-adds-nexus-5-snap-cases-to-the-play-store/
I like the look of these. I wonder if they'll scratch the corners up like the Ringke does ...
$30 and it doesn't even say Nexus on it?!?!
Come on Google... It's basically a Ringke Slim or Spigen Ultra Fit for more than 3x the price. You could of at least slapped on the Nexus branding.

But...but it has the "Google" logo on it!! that must be worth $30 /s
I actually prefer the Google branding. I don't think I'll ever encounter another person in real life who will know what "Nexus" refers to. Anyways, these cases look to resemble the crappy Spigen/Ringke hard cases, and not the incredible sandpaper ones on eBay. We'll have to see who decides to drop $30 and put up a review.
Looks too similar to the lg thin cases. I'm surprised they'd even put these out.

Only thing is that the LG Hardshell protects more, the top is not covered at all with this case and the bottom is also less covered. I don't understand why they try to sell this product for more money with less protection/functionality. Must be a mistake
Waiting for the review, Wondering if the material is matte or like slipperty specially for white one.
I'd buy this if I live in the US. I'm a google fanboy.

To me, these cases appear to be more flexible than the more rigid Ringke cases for example, judging by what I see in the video posted above.

Oh wow , even the silver one?? It looks too shiny to be the grippy material, but that's great if so..
I'm especially excited to hear the white is the rubbery style, as the white lg hardshell is slippery..

I bought the older black Google Nexus 5 OEM case with the "Nexus" logo on the back. I got it on eBay for last week for like $14.00, but it kinda sucks. I shouldn't say it sucks, but definitely not my style of case. I prefer as minimal as possible, where this case has much more bulk and a thicker lip that goes over the glass. Another thing I don't like is the volume & power buttons are covered. They aren't too hard to press, but it's different for sure. I knew I should have bought the LG minimal case. I really liked the pictures and reviews. I got caught up in wanting the "Nexus" logo on the back. I was blinded!
NEXUS 5
I hear this case also scratches on the edges so I pass this
