Hey man!
I just did the whole thing less than a week ago my first time too. The method worked on mine & I was 8.5.1 as well so yea it should work!
I'm on Cyanogen 12.1 Oct 23rd nightly release using it to type right now.
If ya have any probs or questions hit me up! I'll be checking in regularly to see if anyone's seen my posts about some bugs I've encountered.
Be sure your device is rooted first, familiarize yourself with the android-sdk stuff on your PC & the tough part for me was ADB (Android Debugging Bridge).
Once you can get the correct drivers to communicate with the kindle (with ADB enabled) it will go fairly quickly.
---------- Post added at 09:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:47 AM ----------
Here's the ADB drivers from Amazon..
https://developer.amazon.com/appsan...etting-up-your-kindle-fire-tablet-for-testing

I used iRoot to get root on my kindle but people around here are leery of it cause its a Chinese root kit & nobody's sure what all it does. Its a one click App pretty easy to use. Ya gotta go to your settings and allow installation of 3rd party apps & make sure you're connected to the internet when you run them because they say they use a cloud based platform to search for specific root methods on your device.
http://vrootdownload.com/iRoot/#.Vi6eenwo62c
There's probably a better variant of that app I dunno if this one will work but I bet it will.
http://www.kingroot.net/
There's some Root checker apps you can get for free at the amazon store to see if it worked & ya got root access.
---------- Post added at 10:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:08 PM ----------
I just wouldn't mess with or install anything else the app suggests once inside. Just click the root button, if it works great, get out don't install anything from inside the app & don't mess with anything else inside the app unless you're the brave & daring type..
---------- Post added at 10:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:13 PM ----------
The Kingroot developers have posted here before, you can see what they had to say here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461

If I were you I'd try Kingroot first its newer & and from the same people. I used Kingroot on my Samsung S4 late model Verizon & it worked when pretty much everyone else was stumped.
You can remove Kingroot stuff with a one click app called #Supersume & then you can install the more traditional root manager app #SuperSU by Chainfire.
Don't just uninstall Kingroot apps or you'll lose root access & hafta run Kingroot or iRoot again to regain Root access.
The Kingroot & iRoot apps are very easy to use. You shouldn't need a PC at all, I didn't.
Hit me up if any probs..

I've had great success using the instructions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/kin...k-rom-to-hashcodes-lp-5-1-x-kfhd-8-9-t3149826

[Q] need help!

I have an incredible 2 s-off and need to return it to the factory image because of hardware issues! I did a little research and found all different answers! Can some please help me out or point me in the right direction? I am not a complete noob and know a little about adb commands, but sorry for the noob question!
Did you by chance make a backup of your stock unrooted rom.
If you are attempting to completely unroot and restore s-on, as long as you did not use the XTC-clip to obtain s-off, then this thread over at rootzwiki will work. http://rootzwiki.com/topic/1579-how-to-restore-to-stock-from-alpharevx-incredible-2-vivow-only/
This has you flash froyo firmware, which is fine (and needed to be able to temp root to restore the bootloader). After it is all done, you can upgrade back to 2.3.3(or 4) and return it.
Thanks man, greatly appricated, now just gotta get adb to work!
You're welcome.
A really quick utility for ADB I have been using for quick use on Windows machines is a package ChevyNo1 put together on droidforums.net
All you have to do is unzip and run it per the instructions. Takes 10 seconds. Then you just drop any files you want to push into the folder where you extracted it and then issue the push command.
This will help you only if you are on Windows, though which is the one people usually have the most difficulty with getting it set up.
---------- Post added at 05:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:04 PM ----------
I should mention also that there is a bunch of other stuff on that page that is Motorola related, as he is primarily a Moto developer, but the ADB part is universal.

[Q] Rooted & unlocked... is it time for a custom rom? Questions inside.

XDA Members,
I am pretty new to the world of Smartphones. My first Android was a T-Mobile G2 and I have recently upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S-III (also through T-Mobile). One of the initial things I did was update it to Android 4.1.1 via a T-Mobile OTA update. I then rooted the device using this method and it worked like a absolute charm. Today I discovered a Sim Unlock thread here on XDA and couldn't resist following the instructions as I like to have absolute control over the technology I purchase.
My next step would be a Custom ROM like Cyanogen I reckon. However I have some questions and will decide based off of your answers here if it actually a step I want to take. I have concerns about functionality, the benefits, and drawbacks. Hopefully your answers here will be enough to calm my nerves on this as I feel it'd be a very big step. So without further delay here are my preliminary questions:
1) How polished in Cynagen for the Samsung Galaxy S3? Are there a lot of bugs, errors, and the like? Is it running Android 4.1.1, Android 4.1.2, or Android 4.2.1?
2) If I switch over to the Cynoagen ROM in place of the stock firmware currently on my GS3 will I notice a performance increase or decrease in terms of speed, memory consumption, and related variables?
3) What functionality and/or features are missing from Cyanogen in comparison to the stock firmware? Specifically let's talk about camera functionality. The camera functionality in the stock firmware is pretty solid. Can I expect the same level of functionality from Cynaogen? If no then what is missing and/or different?
4) I do not have an SDCARD yet. If I move to Cyanogen can I swap back to the stock Samsung/T-Mobile variant of Android 4.1.1 easily and without too much difficulty?
5) What are the benefits and drawbacks to using Cyanogen over the stock ROM? Can you please enlighten me as to why using an aftermarket ROM is so popular?
This is just a series of preliminary questions. I inquired on the official Cyanogen community forums but getting responses is proving to be more difficult than I originally anticipated. I am hoping to have significantly better luck on these forums.

Could you be a little more specific and in-depth with your answers?
I'm really on the fence about rooting right now, i want to because i want to play all the games with an xbox or ps3 controller, also i only have the 16 gb and didn't realise there isn't apps to sd so 'd like to do the trick to get my sd card to read as internal memory but i have a hard time with the fact that you lose warranty when i have replaced many phones in the past from t-mobile. The technical side scares me in the possibilty of bricking my phone. What was your thought process on that? The warranty thing really scares me like i said because i have literally replaced about a dozen phones through customer care.

Follow the guide I linked in my original post about rooting your T-Mobile Galaxy S3. It's VERY SIMPLE to do using that method. Watch the included YouTube video and then follow the guide carefully. Trust me it's totally worth it. You won't brick your phone if you follow that guide I linked. It's just so easy to do.

If you're too scared to root or flash any roms than just stay on stock. If you follow all the instructions correctly then you got nothing to worry about. I've rooted everyone's phone in my household(we all have different ones) out of boredom lol but I followed the instructions and had 0 issues. Yes you lose your warranty if you root or install a custom rom but it's very easy to revert back to stock in case you need to for warranty purposes.
And for the guy asking about CM10 just try it out and see if you like it or head to the CM10 thread and read up on it. You'll lose most of the touchwiz features but there are some other roms based off touchwiz

It's a backup of your entire phone that you can restore anytime. If you flash cm and don't like it, you can restore to whatever you had before without losing any of your data. It'll be exactly the way it was before you flashed cm.

It's like your phone's serial #. If your phone gets stolen or something your service provider can block it from being used on their network thanks to the imei. Unfortunately it can get reset to 0 due to some minor bug that the SIII's have. If it gets set to 0 you wont be able to connect to tmobile's network. Luckily if that happens you can fix it by following the instructions on that thread. It's happened to me once and I was able to restore it without any issues.

I rooted mine on 10.5.0 a couple weeks ago using Bin4ry's root. It seemed to work fine after that, but I didn't run it too long before attempting to put custom android on it. Ended up flashing the wrong boot loader and then replaced the motherboard. The New one was 10.5.0 as well and rooted using bin4ry then flashed correct boot loader. It's running android like a champ now. No more limited o.s. and haven't run into any issues as of yet.
Can you put up instructions please

I just went by the following guide...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100963
Followed it exactly as its posted and it worked. The first time I tried I used a different guide and ended up hard bricking to a state that it wouldn't even turn on. Replaced the motherboard with a used one and then followed the guide in the above link and it worked for me. I rooted first using bin4ry then just followed that guide. Then installed a custom android Rom. Make certain of which kindle you have before flashing anything to it.. it's a crappy feeling sitting there looking at a dead kindle. I'm not saying that method will work for everyone on 10.5.0, but I was able to get it to work for mine. First time I've hard bricked a device and it was because I downloaded and flashed a file which was meant for a different model kindle.
Good luck! If it doesn't work then hopefully someone can come up with a more modern method.

I'm not sure. Mine didn't do that. It seems like the thing ran like **** after rooting, but after rooting I just went on with flashing 2nd bootloader and twrp then installing a custom Rom. So honestly I couldn't tell you much more about it... I just got it to work somehow. Sorry, good luck.

I delved into the guts of Bin4ry's Root a little bit. It uses 3 (IIRC) binaries, "getroot", "su" and "busybox" and plays games with remounting blocks as RW and using getroot to put things where you wouldn't normally be able to. It utterly failed for me on the first go because of the new tightened file permissions everywhere in 10.5.0.
Doing
Code:
C:\adb> adb root
before running Bin4ry's script helped out a lot, and everything seemed to go correctly until the busybox install phase when it ran into a permission error once again.
I may look into this some more tonight; and I may try running both Bin4ry and Qemu root sequentially as per
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075959
That's how I rooted my KF2 once before.

I followed it too, and now have custom bootloader & TWRP. I would like to stress a few points:
1) Most of the adb commands didn't work on the first go. What worked for me was typing
Code:
C:\adb> adb root
C:\adb> adb shell
adb# <command>
adb# exit
C:\adb>
in place of
Code:
C:\adb> adb shell su -c "<command>"
2) DO NOT skip the backup instructions. They saved my butt; they may save yours. A fastboot cable is highly recommended.
These directions for grabbing the backups as files worked better for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41956668&postcount=3
3) Before I found "adb root" I skipped Step 3 since I couldn't make it work and figured it might not be essential. Ended up with a bootloop. That was when I needed the fastboot cable and my backup files from when I rooted before the "upgrade" to 10.5.0.
4) I was never able to get to fastboot without a fastboot cable before I discovered "adb root". I suspect
Code:
C:\adb> adb root
C:\adb> adb reboot bootloader
will work, but I haven't tried it.
Stupid question...
Hi folks,
Can I ask a really stupid, noob question? I've not had any experience with rooting android devices in the past, but my son has a KF2, v10.5, and he'd like me to root it so he can access the play store. I've read a lot of posts on here about the signed roms and so forth, and because I'm new to the topic a lot of it is going over my head. So some questions:
1) I think, from reading here, that these warnings only apply to replacing the default rom on the KF2, to get a more android like shell. Rooting in itself is a prerequisite for doing this, and doesn't have the associated risk - is that right?
2) I should be able to root the device using the steps in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 ? That would then allow me to install the play store? The fact I'm using 10.5 doesn't impact on this?
2b) How much risk is there in this? I think most of the risk is in applying custom roms, and the advice to get a fastboot cable applies to that rather than simply rooting the device?
3) The latest version is v36, but v30 was mentioned below. Am I better going for the latest version or going with v30
Again, sorry for the dumb questions!!
Kev

Also, if the bin4ry stuff is okay to use on 10.5, which option should I use when I run it? Been looking through the batch file, and I'm suspecting NEWSTANDARD?

Also, if the bin4ry stuff is okay to use on 10.5, which option should I use when I run it? Been looking through the batch file, and I'm suspecting NEWSTANDARD?

Okay, in case anyone else is interested, it worked fine. I used the new standard method in bin4ry. Worth noting that I was able to run adb commands before starting. If you can't then you need to sort that out first
I've installed the google play stuff now, just trying to log into a google account...
I rooted mime with kingo root with a pc.
Im looking to put gapps on it while leaving it stock. The method I used before was moving google framework and a couple of other things yo /system/app. This no longer works.
I dont have secon bootloder or anything on it anymore. Is there a way anyone knows to just put google play no it, nust being rooted stock?
Wow, 2014!! lol
My stupid Kindle updated before I rooted it and now it keeps failing to root. I've tried binary root and king root with the pc and the app. I'm really irritated about it and even more irritating is how old this device is and the chances of someone fixing the issue being minimal at best. I was gonna use it as a car radio with CM.

I need help rooting!

recently, I bought an rca viking pro 10.1 running android lollipop. As any modifier using xposed knows, to install xposed on anything lolli and higher, the corresponding zip file needs to be flashed. scince it is a rca device, I could probably get away w/ a custom revvery for the maven or voyager pro, but I find it too risky (I played on tate for a looooooooooonnnnnnng time). to root, the only way i could find to root the device is using kingroot and installing their crappy ver. of supersu, wich then cannot be removed or updated because... because, well- its freaking Kinguser. using supersu-me will efficiently break the procces without breaking my tablet. I have yet to get adb drivers to work, as I uaually do everything on-site (the fact that rca does not release any drivers makes no sence at all) or I would've put it in fastboot and typed "fastboot oem root" (I'm pretty sure) so right now, the safest way for me would flashing the zip through, flashfire by CHAINFIRE, requiring the supersu binary witch doesn't exist, won't work, so...
Long story short, how in the freakin' world do I install the supersu binaries w/out (on the viking pro) using my least favorite app- kingroot?
any suggestions, i am open to anything!
Why do you not want to use kingroot? Do you not have supersu me?

Htc 526 root---need a way!!!

I have my HTC 526 Verizon (if that makes a difference) that I would like to root and play around with everything I can do with rooting
But... I have tried many one touch rooting methods across the world of apk's and none seemed to work. KingRoot is showing they're working on a way but not so sure on how long it will be until there's a way. :/
If someone has a safe way to root it then pleeeeaaaaseee help!

Try towel root

Try towel root it's available in the play store and that is one click straight to your device and the best part is it doesn't have to be done via PC. I know that one works cause I rooted my LG with it and did it through my device
