Sprint killed it!! - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6

Am I the only one unable to talk on the phone and browse the Web on the s6?? I was able to do this on my s4 when I was on lte. Am I going to have to root and run a custom rom to get that feature back?? Thank for any input!

Not sure if you ended up finding an answer, but from what I understand it has to do with the way the phone is set up. You can't use the web and talk on the phone (while on network data) at the same time because they both are using the same radio. If I'm correct, voice calls are being "helped" a bit by the data connection in an attempt to make call quality go up. I don't think GSM phones are built this way, and I don't remember if Verizon has this problem. Everyone on the Sprint S6 is in the same boat. You can use WiFi and talk on the phone at the same time, though.

correct. if you want to browse the web while talking on the phone, you must use wifi

I just switched to Sprint. I was very disappointed, I assumed in todays day and age data and talk at the same time is just the standard. Guess not.

Yep sux that this happened. Im coming from an s4 also to an s6..great phone though, waiting on more dev options. Unrooted for time being but would love to get my hotspot back, so i must root soon.

Only when you're connected to the web.

Sprint didn't kill it, the designer of the phone killed it by making it work on the sprint network. LOL

Spark killed it, before the Spark phones you could talk and use LTE.

i just asked a sprint associate about this earlier. the reason is because all the newer phones from sprint have only 1 radio/antenna and the cell towers use 2 different antennas. one for data and one for calls so ur phone can only connect to one at a time

I've never had a problem and I've used it on every kernel released or leaked. Did you select your phone model in the options tab of the app? Otherwise I don't know why out screwed your phone up. Right now I'm on viper 3.0.3 and it works flawlessly. I use it allllllll the time too.

Works great on DK28.. even with a modified PRL for VZW 3G roaming makes it better. Sprint 3G sucks in my area, I'm lucky to get 70-80 kilobits. Most of the time its 20 or so.

I read in another thread that using this a lot will get your account cancelled.
Is this true? If so, please include an info source (link) if possible.
I get rather crappy signal while I'm at home, so I'm interested in this app, but I'm usually using voice calls while I'm at home, so I don't want to get myself canceled for roaming during 90%+ of my voice calls.
Thankx for any info.

It's because VZW has a 1x roaming agreement with Sprint (meaning sprint phones can only roam with 2G, not 3G connections).
Does any one know if this will work with U.S. Cellular? I had VZW before i got my Epic so its of no help to me if it will not work with U.S. Cellular, there is a deedspot i'm in a lot & Sprint works better than VZW does but only U.S. Cellular works consistently

Hey guys should I be careful buying a used tmobile phone? How can I be Shure the is good to use? Not stolen or in the blacklist or what about if I buy the phone and then the seller report it stollen. Will tmobile disconnect my phone even if it is on simple mobile? Is there a safe way to do the transaction. Lots of questions. Thanks
well, it is not safe, if the phone report stolen or blocked it by tmobile, you can't use it with simple mobile. and there is no way to know if the phone ok or not, it will works for a couple of days/weeks/months but once tmobile block it. you will be sorry. anyway I bought mine from amazon, I talked to them first about people selling phones on amazon and then the phone gets blocked. they put a note in my account that if the phone got blocked I can return it back for a full refund no matter how long. and btw mine is used.

T-mobile phones are the worst to buy used because it can be blocked for 2 reasons, unpaid EIP and phone reported stolen. I almost got burned but luckily I was able to tracked down the previous owner. The phone worked for weeks before it was blocked. Scarry.
This is currently my experience.
I own an AT&T Galaxy Note 2 that I just got yesterday. I got it unlocked, and right there I'l put Simple Mobile on it and it worked just great with the only exception that I get only 2G on it and I'm on an area where most T-mobile users get 4G.
So got somewhat disappointing but didn't give up. From there I rooted it and I flashed a T-mobile SGH-T889 ROM on it and it ROM itself works, but with Simple Mobile I still get only 2G.
From here, I'm thinking the only thing I'm missing is the Radio (or Modem if you wanna call it that way) for a T-Mobile phone since I'm suspecting I'm still using an AT&T radio.
I haven't done enough research to see if I'm right on my theory. So as soon as I get back to the kitchen I'll flash a T-Mobile Radio and see if that works.

Sounds like it could be network vision. I'm a tech for sprint and there have been lots of customers in my area that can't receive phone calls. Flash the return to stock Rom and if it is still doing it then take it to a service center. If they determine it's a network issue then you're SOL.

So what would you recommend as the best course of action? Staying on 55015 unless you notice you aren't receiving calls sometimes? Come to think of it I think I did get a voicemail once without the phone ringing... but other than that once, it seems like 55015 has been better than 2000, at least in terms of holding a data signal.
Depends on your area and your service. If 20000 doesn't work and 55015 does, then stick with it. As for calls rolling directly to VM and your phone isn't broke lol, it more then likely is a hickup in the network. You should see some of the network Trams I see on my end.

So I noticed you work for Sprint. I'm running a custom prl on my note 2 that prioritizes 800 smr. Most of the time I fail to connect, but not always. I am an active member at s4gru.com, a Sprint forum, and many people with note 2's are experiencing the same connection problems with smr. My wisdom for you is if Sprint, internally, has diagnosed the problem with the note 2's and 800 smr. Obviously Sprint knows something is up or they wouldn't have pushed the 2000 prl.

The reason I push out non standard PRLs are for instances were I have a customer who is not getting service at all or is getting extremely poor voice service. As for s4gru.com, that is not a sprint affiliated web site. It is a community blog that is not moderated nor updated by sprint. It is true that some N2 users in specific markets experience issues with 800 SMR bands enabled but I personally have not had an issue with it.

But for most people I deal with, having to power cycle your phone occasionally is a hell of a lot better then no service at all.

Call prob after official 4.3 update

My wife has this phone and I have the s3. After doin TT the update to 4.3, we both have experienced the same issue. When I am on 4g and she is on LTE, we cannot make calls to someone on WiFi calling. We can receive them just not make them. All other calls work. When on 2g or edge it works. I finally found a fix for mine, since my s3is rooted, I reflashed the modem only and mine is fixed. My wife won't let me root hers, the note 2. With that being said, what are my options, because I think that would work for hers, but she won't let me root.

I have the same issue with my stock 4.3 Note 2... not sure what happen during the OTA but im led to assume that with all the newer LTE phones, note 2 users arent the only phones accessing those bands, and something was shifted that creates more instability with wifi calling. I say more instability, as even when I was on 4.1.1/4.1.2 there would be times when friends/family would call/message me when I was connected to certain wifi's (at my girlfriends/etc) and the call would never come through, the messages would receive until I disconneced from the wifi. Even when leaving a voicemail, it was hit or miss for me to get those until I disconnected from wifi.
Not sure if it is a compatibility issue from being connected to edge vs lte vs etc (like you have narrowed down) as it may be a wifi router issue, or just initial bugs with wifi calling in general, considering wifi calling is still (in my mind) in its infancy stage

I wouldn't necessarily say WiFi calling is in its infancy. I've been with T-Mobile since before the first android. We had Wi-Fi calling with the 2nd android phone T-Mobile had, the cliq 1. Every phone we have had has had Wi-Fi calling since. The first hiccup we ever had was with the HTC one s. With the note 2 we haven't had a problem until the update. Being an IT tech, I couldn't help but do my own ts, since it was happening to my s3 as well. What we found was it only happens if she makes a call on 4g or LTE going to a phone that has Wi-Fi calling turned on. If that person turns it off and goes to where they actually has signal, the call goes thru fine. My s3 was doing the same, but it is rooted.
We have put several calls into T-Mobile IT dept. That has stumped them badly. They have no idea why this is happening.
On my phone, I finally had the bright idea to reflash just the modem. It worked. No more issues on mine.
I can't root hers(she won't let me), and I know that will fix it by flashing the modem only.
So, sorry for long post, but that is where I'm at. I'm stumped, unless maybe just using Odin to flash the update all over again (like that will happen, she don't like it when I play with her phone).

Simultaneous voice and data?

Will the Note 4 have simultaneous voice and data? I know the S5 doesn't.
That is a deal breaker for me.
Sent from my SGNote 3
No it doesn't. Sprint hasn't had that since the S3 and single band LTE.
It will likely be a year or more till they get that type of thing up and running on their new phones and it is doubtful the Note 4 would ever have it, because it isn't just a simple software upgrade needed. There are hardware issues also.
That shouldn't be a reason to not buy it though. As I said before unless you are getting an S3 no new sprint phone is going to have that capability.

Ok great, and my phone right now is an S3, and I did not have the info on the Note 2 or 3 but I assumed they didn't have it. My mistake. So they do it also. My point is that no new Sprint phone will do it that has the Tri-Band LTE Spark network. It has to do with the hardware. So if you want a phone that does this you need to get a non Tri-Band/Spark phone. The trade off isn't worth it in my humble opinion because being able to use Tri-band LTE where I live will greatly fix some of the LTE capacity issues I am having right now on my S3.
Until Sprint does VoLTE (probably not until late 2015 to early 2016) this won't be possible. You can still do non-LTE data simultaneously just not LTE.
Let's keep it civil in here guys - don't make me come back for more cleaning or I'll close this thread.
I also moved it to Q&A since it's a question - please post in appropriate sections.
Thank you.

The hangouts dialer only uses data connection - no voice connectivity
For last month I used about 3 minutes of talk time. Voice is actually not important to me at all but I know when Spark was launched it was discovered that Data/Voice could not be simultaneous and it upset alot of people. One of the unfortunate limitation of Spark.

Just my 2 cents. Any phone on 4G LTE on the sprint network can do voice and data at the same time. 3G you cannot unless it is the S3 because of the SVDO chip which has been discussed by others.

I did not say Spark. I was referring to 4G LTE. Two different things.

that was what t I was trying to tell the OP before he got rude about it. Tri-Band LTE=Spark=No simultaneous voice/data. Until they release Voice over LTE(VoLTE) this capability will not be available in any spark capable phone.

this makes sense that simultaneous data and voice will not work over Spark. If the third channel is one use by 3G, which is use to make the data more reliable. 3G was not possible to have voice and data at the same time on Sprint.
Not that I use voice very often, I can see this being a slight irritation from time to time. Although, you'll be able to use voice and WiFi since they're two different radios.
If I didn't already buy this phone this would be a huge deal breaker for me. I didn't realize I would not be able to talk and surf. I do that all the time. I use my data and phone all the time. I hated having a 3g phone not because of the slow speeds but because I couldn't talk and surf without wifi. How does this affect google maps while talking?

I don't understand your point. I use my bluetooth all the time so I can talk and surf. Why would I need to do one or the other unless the current tech doesn't allow me to do more?
I think in the case of navigation and voice, navigation caches the data it needs and allows voice calls during the process, just don't talk for hours while trying to get somewhere. ..lol
