Private Mode Feature - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note5

I just found out about a feature called "Private Mode" and I wanted to share with my friends on XDA that may not be aware of this awesome feature. I store pictures and videos on my phone that may be questionable in nature. In the past I've been using a third party app like SafeGallery to make sure my reputation is not ruined by someone accidentally running into one of these questionable media types on my phone. There is actually a built-in feature on the phone that can accomplish this goal -- namely, "Private Mode". You can go into the Quick Settings from the notification menu and toggle this mode. Then you choose a picture or video that you would like to make private and it will no longer be visible unless you are in private mode. Just like Smart Unlock this is a great baked-in solution that eliminates the need for another third-party app.
Here is an article about Private Mode: http://www.androidcentral.com/understanding-private-mode-samsung-galaxy-s6

private mode is awesome!!! i also have videos and photos that i store in there, but you can store a lot more in there and i love that you can open those pics and stuff very easy and then when you lock your phone again they are hidden once again. now one nice thing is that if someone tries to find your private folder its also hidden. what it seems to do is make a sudo sd card and when you enable private mode it mounts the private sd card in a since. i have to say this is one of many of my favorite features of this phone. you can use this to hide a lot of files and even folders if needed/wanted.
Thanks for making a thread about this i honestly didnt know people wouldnt know about this feature.

When was this feature added? I had the Note3 for 2 years and have never heard of this. Would have been a shame if it was there the whole time.

Thanks I've been moving some of my, err, more personal pics to private! Easy as pie.

:fingers-crossed: Does anyone know if there's a way to privatize any of your conversations in the default messaging app? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Plz & Thnx!

Gallery 3d with access to Picasa public albums.

I would like to ask to community to help out in a request to a developer.
Some of you many not know that the 3d Gallery app on our phones is NOT present in all 2.1+ android devices. While the Gallery itself maybe present access to Picasa is missing in some Sense based roms.
There is a fix for this being developed and is available in the market under the name, 3D Gallery. Here is where I would like you help.
At present the dev is doing nothing more then trying to make a clone of the gallery. He has just added Picasa access, but you will need to give the app your log-in details. This is not something that many users are willing to do as Picasa generally speaking is tied to the users main account.
What I would like to see is the dev give access to Picasa public galleries through username alone along with the ability for full access if both user and pass are given. Granted you will not be able to upload if user and pass are not given, but thats not really a big deal.
I think the one thing Google overlooked with the 3d Gallery was the ability to view albums you mark as favorites in your account. This app has the ability to give us this function, we just need to let the dev know that we want it.
This would be the PERFECT way to share wallpaper with each other, without the need to actually take up any storage on the phone itself.
I know Im not the only one that wants this, so please help out.
Send a copy of the following petition to the devs email address.
Email: support at flikie dot com
Copy petition below
I fully support the petition to add access to selected Picasa public albums inside of your 3D Gallery app. Access to said galleries should be entered through username alone and/or full web address.
Adding the ability to view public galleries gives us the perfect method to share wallpaper in a way that does not require using the phones storage.
Thank you for considering our request.

I have... in fact I have tried every gallery that allows access to Picasa in the market, it does allow for adding Picasa public albums, Ill give Floating Image that. However I am not really a big fan of the program. I just dont like the browsing method for it and there is no way to crop the images when selected for wallpaper. To bad too, its photo viewing and rotation are great.

Features missing in Ics?

Hi again, just a couple of features I have noticed missing, or not found them....
First is being able to long hold a contact and send business card etc,
And the other one is deleting individual calls from call history, either in batch or long pressing.
Any one else found some features you'd expect missing or if the ones above will be included in a software update?

You can't zoom in the photo edit application, which makes it absolutely impossible to remove red eyes even though there is such a functionality. Tried it several times already, the built in flash almost always guarantees red eyes.

If I remember correctly, stock Android hasn't had SMS business card sharing for a long time. It's no new discovery with Android 4.0
OK, thanks for the help. Seen the delete call option now. But no SMS sharing.

Ics features Missing
update which misses the core features of ICS. Still its getting rolling to many country almost 4 days gone.
Native 3G VIDEO CALL.- why we have a front camera where we cant use it for video call. Its not fair
WIFI-DIRECT- The most welcomed features. Thought its being the highend smart phone we already misses the 4.0 bluetooth which the board can support but atleast the WIFI capable direct transfer technology which most company including samsung incorporated even in GB phone and adding to these the white paper reveales that its has the technology in buit. But why its not implemented in the latest build.
Camera : Burst Mode. Many low end smartphones has that features. Why we dont have that feature. its really a pain that having spent on high end phone lacks basic functionality where a mediocre devices can perform the same functionality at a fraction of price.
I am not pin pointing or complaining. I am just esclating to the right department to notify that these core features which are missing in the XS.
Please take it as a feedback and do the needfull to the owners of XS.
Thanks
The use of wifi direct. Setting an external MP3 as a ringtone without the use of any apps or moving the MP3 to another location on the phone. In the contacts app, choosing to view only people with cellphone numbers (again, without using any other external app)
Sending sms or email to a group. I don't know why such a simple feature is absent.

Major option missing in that. No sharing via text. That's ****ing stupid to leave out Messaging/Text sharing, which is the main reason to share a contact or business card.

seriously guys move on you live in like 90s.... sms? are you serious? come on... There is like 50 or more social platforms out there way but wayyyyy better than sms.... to name some of them: whatsapp, chaton, viber, etc etc etc, you can send any kind of media any size and create groups or whatever and they are multi platform... meaning they run in blackberry, windows phone, iphone, Android, so what's the deal with sms? I personally haven't sent a sms to a person in years wtf
also world wide you only need a WiFi signal to chat or share media with your people

Never even heard of those apps before. Everybody texts still. All my friends, family, and in my business sales SMS texting is very common and popular.
If those apps you mentioned are so great, lets see Android or iPhone incorporate them directly into their OS or some type of version based off them.

Yup yup, it's a bit daft we need to install Skype or something similar. I wish Google would follow suit like other manufacturers and OEMs, and bundle a native video calling app.
Also, a BBM type thing would be nice, preinstalled, so all Android phones come with it. Group chats and the like would be pretty awesome.

I thought Talk was an MSN Messenger type app? You can't use it via the Phone can you? I.e. going to contacts and clicking call - video call. Surely if you want to make a call using Talk, you need to be logged in, and the other person has to be online etc etc?
SMS is still the most common thing, everyone with a phone has it.

Best New Launcher to Check out!

So I have found a new launcher that has great potential. Kind of reminds me of Wisbar Desktop from my WM days as you can put items anywhere on the screen and they are not locked into a grid like every other launcher. Besides swiping your pages side to side, you can also scroll down on each page like WP7.
Has lots customizations and the developer is extremely responses. Received a email back from him within 15 minutes after contacting him. Still has some bugs and he is aware of them and is constantly working on it.
I am running my screen at 720p and I totally recommend that as you can get lots on your screen!
It is free as well!
SSLauncher:
https://market.android.com/details?...t#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5zcy5sYXVuY2hlciJd
Here is a screen shot for ya...
I have been using this for a few days now and have to agree...coolest launcher I have used so far. This is as cool and "revolutionary" as when ADW and Launcher Pro came out for the first time.
From the market page:
Permissions
This application has access to the following:
Services that cost you money
directly call phone numbers
Allows the application to call phone numbers without your intervention. Malicious applications may cause unexpected calls on your phone bill. Note that this does not allow the application to call emergency numbers.
Network communication
full Internet access
Allows an application to create network sockets.
Your personal information
read contact data
Allows an application to read all of the contact (address) data stored on your device. Malicious applications can use this to send your data to other people.
read Browser's history and bookmarks
Allows the application to read all the URLs that the Browser has visited, and all of the Browser's bookmarks.
write Browser's history and bookmarks
Allows an application to modify the Browser's history or bookmarks stored on your device. Malicious applications can use this to erase or modify your Browser's data.
Storage
modify/delete USB storage contents modify/delete SD card contents
Allows an application to write to the USB storage. Allows an application to write to the SD card.
I would need an explanation of why it needs permissions to make phone calls without my intervention before I can install it. I might be paranoid here, but that whole "without my intervention" bugs me.
I'll try this out but how do you get the magazine look for the page turn
Its smooth but I don't like how icons are not applied on a grid. Everything is free-standing and I can't get anything to align. Its really bothering me.

because its a launcher/app. If you were to set a contacts icon on the screen for direct dial or something like that, you would not be able to make a call because you didn't want that permission.
I'm pretty sure every launcher needs that permission.
I can't believe I didn't think of that. I don't add contact shortcuts, but it does make sense. I think I'll go download it now.

The developer is aware of the issues and is currently working on fixing them. I run into problems editing pages after I add a lot of items on the homepage.
Totally agree this can be the best launcher to date with as little more work.
If you haven't tried yet, drag items to the bottom of the screen as fat as can go and you will see you can then scroll the page down. There are probably so many cool things to do in the launcher. If anyone figures some tricks out, post it up!
has anyone figured out how to get a calendar widget to work?
Android agenda widget or any other full screen calendar widget doesn't want to work
so far, that's the only issue I have..really cool stuff!
thanks!

Simple Calendar widget works fine. Just do not choose the scroll option in the widget. Any widget that scrolls will not work.
thanks man, it was the "scrolling" option that was messing me up...

Another cool trick I just noticed for lining up apps and widgets on the screen...
Hold down whatever you want to move. Then let your finger off of it to bring up the little menu that says edit, etc. Then either click the back button or touch somewhere else on the screen and it will leave your item highlighted. In cse you didn't know, at this point you can re-size your widget but if you move the whole widget around you will see red lines show up when it is lined up with other items near it making it simple to know where you are placing it.
It is kind of hard to explain but try and and you will understand what I am talking about....
Its pretty cool and has A LOT of potential.
pretty cool but could've been better

How to overcome contacts memory limitation?

I am forced to keep off contacta synchronization for my professional networks LinkedIn, Google and Twitter. If I turn it on my Note 2 runs out of memory available for contacts after synchronizing about 17k of the contacts. LinkedIn 24k contacts, Google 20k contacts and Twitter 50k followers.
Please help to overcome this incredibly painful experience so I can synchronize all of the above.

Your guess is wrong, I use all of them. As an international contractor I advise to all of them my availability and new contract offers start to pour in. You never know where the next opportunity lies. I f you can help its appreciated, if not useless comments are just that useless.
Well why would you need 50K twitter followers in your phone when there on twitter following you...
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Yes you are right, Twitter doesn't really matter. I do though need the LinkedIn and the Facebook ones. If I can find a solution for those to synchronize, it will also work for 50k from Twitter regardless if I need it or not.
The point is that I need to be able to bring in a lot more contacts and asociated data than the Note can handle as per stock setup.
The question is HOW? Please let me know if you are aware how it can be done!

LinkedIn is my primary interest. The web interface as well as various LI apps is hopeless for managing 20k contacts since there isnt almost any batch processing functionality. I used to export my LI contacts and import them into Outlook but due to LI lacking the needed processing power that stopped working sometime after I reached 10k connections.
Android sync works well enough except for the memory limitation. At the moment its the only place I know where I can have my contacts in a fully managable database.
I am open to other suggestions but this being a Note forum i hoped to find a Note solution here.
I am a contractor. If I can make this sync/memory work I again have the capability to let all my connections know when I complete my last contract and am available for the next one.

Hello sir
well, I can assure you that even if you manage to sync all those contacts to your Note phone book, the phone wont be able to handle this huge number ! this why the limitation is there from the first place, and this is what apple is doing to keep their Iphones runs smoother than androids, they put limitations on everything, from pictures format and size to video type and resolution, etc...
the final word is "it will just ruin the user experience" something Samsung don't want it for their beloved customers

I know this isn't going to help you with regards the storage limitation......but if LinkedIn is your primary interest then surely the obvious way to let all your connections know when your last contract is complete and therefore available for the next one is to manually update LinkedIn when that time comes. It keeps your phone free of 'clutter' yet surely you're achieving the same result without the limitation and associated problems. When you update your LinkedIn status don't all your contacts receive a notification?
I might be wrong but it doesn't sound like you need the 1000's of LinkedIn contacts on your phone but all of them need 'you'.......to me it sounds like the equivalent of storing a worldwide phonebook on your mobile, just so they can give you a call (so that's a process which isn't actually required) If your details are held in a central resource then you don't need to store everyone else's?
Feel free to shoot me down or completely ignore.
So, assuming you can get all 24-100k contacts into your Note2 Contacts app, what's the intended use-case? What action within the contacts app do you expect to perform to "let everyone know you're available for work"? I'm looking at my couple of hundred contacts (which, in itself, can be a royal pain to manage) and I'm not sure I'd want to even try to do what I do with the Note2 over ten times as many, let alone 1-500 times.
You are all right from contacts app perspective. There is no easy way to manage from there. The reason for wanting to sync to my Note is the fact that android/contacts app brings all my social/professional networks contact details into a single database. It automatically combines a significant % of the duplicate contacts into one contact. To me this is the only known way of achieving a single database with details from various sources.
Unavoidably when I try to work on the Note with a database of this size the delay in displaying the results is a bit annoying but I can live with that just to get the result.
The positive is that from there the contacts are available to other applications which can be used for mailings or messaging. At this moment the various android apps batch processing capability is still limiting but it does have the export functionality enabling me to export this database to other apps on my PC.
Just as most of your comments, I would prefer to do all this on my PC but I have yet to find a desktop application that can build a unique and transportable database from all these networks.
But judging from the comments seems either the memory issue is not solvable or I should have explained the reasons in more detail earlier for people to be willing to help or maybe I am just uninformed about some PC app that can do this as well.
I already use the update feature on LinkedIn and other similar functionalities on my other networks but it is not even remotely as effective as sending a direct message to my connections. People don't stay glued to the screen to see a random update that disappears of their update queue within a few minutes of getting posted.
I dont want to shoot anybody down but feel free to shoot me down if you know an easier way of achieving the desired result.

Using the OP3 for 5 days now and still struggling a lot . Somehow I got the message about no space on the storage although there were not many files there. So had to do a reset, and reinstalled all apps a fresh.
I am horribly addicted to the DND , Block Caller , Memo and Email Client of Samsung. I assumed that the OP3 being a Android phone, would have all of these and more.
I have installed a app (Do not Disturb) for the DND which seems to be working fine. Can someone suggest a workaround for the other three problems, i.e Block Caller, Memo (where I can import samsung memos) and email client like Samsung, please.
I would like to keep the phone and am making all efforts to work towards that. All advice will be highly appreciated.
A stupid question, would all these problems be overcome with a downgrade to Marshamallow, if that is possible at all ?
- use google keep for memo (its better)
- tons of options for email, you can use Gmail for starters (even for Microsoft Exchange), or check out BlueMail if you want to try a third party.
if you're trying to get these on stock OOS with no root/xposed:
- create a contact called SPAM and add callers you want to block to that, then make that contact's calls all go to voicemail
if you're willing to unlock BL & root:
- Flash Google Dialer w/ framework to block callers
- use Root Call Blocker

yes, but i dislike it since they upload your whole contacts list to their servers which is a huge privacy issue IMO

Yes i know but since millions of people are already using it so they already have most of our phone contacts anyway. The only thing that we can do is just get our own number removed from their database.

that doesn't make it OK.
I blocked my number and those of all my friends and family on their service to mitigate that.

Ok but to be honest doesnt bother me much. Plus you cannot remove a number from their database whose has an active true caller account so i do hope you had everyone deactivate their accounts also first.

Thanks for your reply. Gmail does not go to the Combined view of Inbox directly, dislike that. Needed a simple client which is included with the phone. Have tried BlueMail found it very complicated. I dont mind rooting if I can get a permanent solution to my problems.
About Truecaller or any other Dialler which uploads the phone book, is a huge issue for me and I dont want to do that.
About Google Keep, have tried that. Didnt like it. Besides I have hundreds of notes on my Samsung Memo with Titanium backups available, all lost.

You are issues rare, it also tells how diverse this world is. Most people here, specially me, just hate Samsung UI, missing frame rates and lags, chinese looking touchwiz. Good to know, some people prefer it as well. I exchanged galaxy S7 for OP3 with commitment never to buy Samsung again, i feel you have opposite issues
There are tones of memo applications, oneNote it's working fine and also you can sync with the widows os, using a branded application such Samsung's crap which you can't ported to other devices it's risky, Samsung like Apple are pushing us to use their own ****, less flexibility

You should try HydrogenOS v0.10 which comes with its own notes app and you can block or record calls directly from the phone app. For email, I myself use Inbox from Google which works great but try few from PlayStore.

Why did you buy OP3 instead of Samsung?
I mean, if you prefer Samsung stile why did you change it for a pure android one?
Anyway, I'm looking for an OP3. If you would like to sell it to buy a Samsung device I would like to help you.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have had Onenote since ages on my phones, never thought of using it as a memo pad. Infact it is a very good suggestion, the Quick notes are really handly and get synced to all devices too.

For memo i would suggest google keep or colornote, for mail you can try outlook, for call blocking you can try call blocker by nq mobile security it works good for me.
And if you root it to some other custom rom like resurrection rom i think there is an inbult feature of call blocking..

Your first mistake is thinking that Samsung ships Android. They ship TouchWiz and add a bunch of "value added" crap most people don't care about. Most if not all of those things can be found on Google Play.
