Volume increase - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do any of you guys know what values can be increased to raise headphone volume? Can you just adjust mixer paths file?

I'm also trying to figure this out. I miss the volume mod from the Nexus 5, both of these phones are too quiet stock. I looked through the mixer_paths.xml file on the 5X and it seems to look very similar, but the HPHL and HPHR values are already 20 for headphone volume. Speaker volume seems to me to be controlled in "speaker-gain-default". I'd appreciate if someone more knowledgeable than me would comment on this before I blow up my phone lol.

I remember seeing a tread that you are looking for and with some search magic, finally found it. It talks about making surround sound, but it also explains + shows what you are looking for!

That works great to increase the speaker volume, but I haven't noticed any volume increase in the headphones from increasing the values that controlled it in the Nexus 5. I bumped the values from the stock 20 to 24.

I can only do this if I'm rooted correct?

Download faux sound and a kernel which supports it. I'm currently using it and I can control both speaker and analog volumes.

[Q] Louder volume mod?

Been wondering if editing certain values in AudioPara4.csv would help increase the volume output through the Headset? I did edit the files of system/etc and came up with the following flashable zip. There's also a stock one to revert back. I did test both but I'm too sleepy to notice a difference (Yeah, it's 8.30am here and didn't sleep a wink yet!). So if anyone would like to help, test the SOUND.zip and see if you notice a difference- and please report.
If it doesn't, flash back to STOCK SOUND.zip till further notice. And if anyone else would like to input any relevant info, that'd be helpful as well.
And please don't talk about Volume+ or equalizers, only looking for an internal mod that'd help with system wide volume boost.
Just for info, the only lines I'd edited in the Flashable zip is the hex values (to higher values) in Column H of PHONE_HEADSET_VOL0 to VOL5 (Row 77-82).
No difference. Not only this have tried many other tweaks but nothings helps. Stock sound is good on headset. What I want is some tweak for speaker ( it really suck )

But if you meant that as a temporary fix for the user peace.nitish, then I guess you're right. Volume+ does provide a significant boost (Avoid hitting the levels too high, may distort)- and is available for free on the developer's webpage.
As for the etc files, they may need some more looking at! Will post an update if I find anything useful..
i think all boosters/volume mods only harms speaker.
standart volume is enough to hear if someone calling you.
if you want listen to music, buy headphones.

Well, only on the lookout for a fix to increase output in the headset and not the speaker. The speaker is loud enough if you ask me, the headset could've done better.
I've modded outputs on several phones successfully (including a Sensation, Desire HD and HD mini, of the HTC line) and there are always values which will harm your speaker AND values that (if edited reasonably) would increase output without distortion to a higher-than-safe official value.
Editing the AudioPara4.csv file for devices such as Aria and G2 have proved a higher output. And I'm pretty sure it is responsible for the output on the WFS as well. Just needs some more looking into.

edit file for increase volume?

i guess this is basically a general android question, but is there a file somewhere on system that allows you to manually increase the max volume? i thought i read somewhere in these forums (perhaps aokp or codename discussion threads) about someone editing a file (like build.prop or something) to allow for higher volume. i checked the build.prop on my toshiba thrive and didn't see any volume settings.
This is a good question..
I searched the Web and found this guide which may be promising. I may try this myself this evening. Hopefully it works!

EDIT: Apparently there's also an app called Volume+ which works with the E4GT that does it for you.

apparently those files don't exist anymore.
i tried volume+, but no bueno.
I don't know your knowledge or skill level but look in /system/etc/audio
There are settings in the files for delays, volume gain, well - everything really. If you're unsure what you're doing then just make a copy of every file in there just in case something go haywire so you can replace the one you edit with the original.
One of the settings, I think for level gain is at "-12" Also, if your ears start bleeding because you set something too high - I'm not responsible.
Haven't tested it on the sgs but this was accomplished through kernel modifications on my evo. I assume things would be no different here.
Bump any luck here? I tried volume + but it only boosts the volume a very small amount. My old phone had several kernels with volume enhancements, can't believe one has not been made for this phone yet.
Not sure exactly how it was done. But in the evo 3d forums they used qpst to change the maximum volume to a higher volume because the speaker isn't loud at all

The volume+ app did help over bluetooth more than the speaker. Still not as loud as i would like though.

I know these all though Now I'm on MTK soc custom ROM which lacks engineering mode through which I can get the maximum volume of my headphones or speaker.
So I tried to find out file like other SoC does like Samsung to edit in almost all possible system directory but no luck.

[Q] increase the levels/steps of in-call (earphone) volume

are there any software or modification that can modify the number of steps/levels of the in-call (earphone) volume. it looks like there is only 7 steps/levels while others (music volume and etc) are 15 steps.. so the lowest setting on the in-call volume is rather too loud for my IEM... I searched around for volume control, found Fine Volume Control but it does not work for in-call volume.. I asked on the developer's thread and he mentioned its not being developed anymore.. so I'm hoping someone here would be able to help..
the only alternative i can think of is getting a in-line volume control..but was wondering if there are any software/other solution to this?
Thanks in advance.
There is a build.prop edit for this (if i remember correctly) , but it changes it system-wide if you're ok with that (media volume, ringer volume, all sound volume steps are changed)
I will update my post as soon as I find it and/or remember the exact code.
In the meantime, search build.prop increase volume steps :google: and see if you can find it, this definitely exists though
Thank you.. I didn't know there is such a thing as build.prop.. I found what you meant.. Thanks.. it gives me a reason to root my phone.. =)

[MOD] All Volumes Booster different versions works with lollipop

Here's a mod I made up that boosts all the volumes from stock 84 to 90 ,95 and 98
Download All volumes to 90 here - https://mega.co.nz/#!71wnnKYa!RQZ8OtEuUe4ZOppKxXi94FQfj38jiNT0cBeUiNu4e5Q
Download All volumes to 95 here - https://mega.co.nz/#!P9RX0I4D!khQXXQhZXSOyD8V9MZH6PU-8NrleS7K8APYJ6IRmkvM
Download All volumes to 98 here - https://mega.co.nz/#!6ogSyIbJ!hoRhR0itt3srG9WVbGgx3Mbt5zTWZjbj0kqur5bT1wA
98 is the max some distortion on tablet speaker at max volume but most headphones and Bluetooth speakers can handle it
Download
Reboot into recovery and flash
Enjoy
Also here's a revert back to stock if you ever want to
Download here - https://mega.co.nz/#!v1hCjRQQ!dm8YNfMgpgTaKqmDA73VzHRl1sFr3jININnmHsWXOH8
Reboot into recovery and flash
And you're back to stock
Also I recommend installing viper4android apk along with this mod to enhance the sound quality here's a link to his apk - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
You should install his apk as a system app
Enjoy and hit thanks if you like this mod
Might check this out soon, but just a quick question since this is basically max volume - have you noticed any distortion or excess clipping on any particular media yet? Appreciate it.

With the second mod the one that boosts the volumes to 98 there is some distortion with the volume at max but the first not so much very little at max so I would recommend the one that boosts to 95 I only made the other one mainly for Bluetooth and headphones as they can handle the extra boost I also recommend installing vipers apk along with my mod for better sound quality I included a direct download link to the apk you should install it as a system app.

Anything over 90 will distort at high volume with the devices speakers as they are just not made to handle it I just turn the volume down the main reason I made the higher volume is for using headphones or Bluetooth speakers as they're able to handle the higher volumes without distortion

Increase speaker volume

I find the volume rather low, especially compared to my One mini..
Now with the mini having beats, it was just editing playbackbeats_l.eq and playbackbeats.eq to 1.2 setting
Now we have playbackMFG_l.eq, playbackMFG.eq, playbackwoofer.eq, playback.eq and playback_l.eq, tho only playbackMFG_l.eq, playbackMFG.eq, playbackwoofer.eq are showing the same values as the beats ones had before (but on 1 and not 1.2 ofc)..
So which ones of these do i have to change to get the sound boost going?
Seriously? Volume not loud enough still xD
I will come up with something in a few days
The beats method I discovered only works with phones with Beats Audio I still haven't found a proper method for the M8 yet! Hopefully the M9 shouldn't be too hard
Hahah yeah, compared to my Mini that has the 1.2 setting, it's far more quiet, and the Mini was already very quiet at stock... :\
But thanks, hope you can find something :highfive:

I also hope someone (or HTC) comes with a solution or brings more attention to this. I am coming to my M9 from the M7. The notifications, rings, etc are very soft volume at the highest settings. I have missed many SMS from this and using the same ringtones from my original M7.
Me too. The phone has the most clear sounding speakers but I wish they were louder. Could this be fixed/changed with a software update?
Same issue here. I sent HTC an email but haven't heard anything back yet. The sound quality is good but nowhere near loud enough. Notifications are very quiet even with the volume all the way up.

There is a hidden menu or a dial secret code to enter the engineering mode like mtk chipset?
I am also the vibration a little 'soft!
With that menu could fix all these things but I can't find it!
I only found the code to enter the tests menu and even in the developer option from there!
I have to use mine on lower than max settings because it's too loud. Doubt any mods will do anything to the volume as an increase in volume will be traded against a decrease in sound quality as always.
Did anybody find a way to increase the speaker volume?

Guys, for volume boost on m8 & m9 you must edit playback.eq and playback_l.eq (for right and left speaker respectively), just erase all the digits and make it look like playbackbeats.eq from beats phones (1 1 0 0 0 0; 2 1 0 0 0 0 etc), then just edit values to 1.1 or 1.2, just what are you want. Also if you know how to adjust parametric equalizer, you can edit stock values (for example 0.39374446868896 + 0.1 = 0.49374446868896), then you should edit the first value in each row. For beats phones you should edit beats files (playbackbeats), or playback files, for phones w/o beats audio - only playback files. It really works and many people on 4pda forum confirmed it.

Can u tell me how to make this change? Do i need an unlocked m9? I am also trying to find someone who can make the LED flash standard RGB as notifications similar to previous and all other phones....Anyone know how to get these basic features to work???

i found a way to do it without root or custom roms. may not work quite as well but it definitely improved my volume. It seems the extra bass makes the volume really low so i downloaded the equalizer app on the play store and decreased some of the bass and it sounds great now. The eq settings I find to be most effective are as follows. 60Hz all the way up, 230Hz at 0 dB, 910Hz all the way up, 4kHz at 0 dB, and 14kHz all the way up. If you don't wat the eq notification in the status bar just disable all notifications for the eq app. I hope this helps for all who don't want to root or use custom roms.

I hope this helps for all who don't want to root or use custom roms.

after using this method ive realized with loud enough songs the speakers just dont work till u disable the app... so unfortunately this doesnt work after all.
