4th time a charm? - Huawei Watch

So, I decided to go for one more exchange on my watch, taking up the offer of the BB manager that they would take it back after the 15 day period. After it started with the sudden drop in battery, which was very bad today, 40% in 2 hours, plus the difficulty with the charger and the HRM not working, I decide it was worth another go. Turns out the local BB just got a new shipment in. So, I actually went in and bought another one, before giving up the one I had. No red tint, the battery charger is nice and tight, it clicks right in and starts charging, and, the HRM actually works. I don't know how well yet, but decidedly better than the last one which wouldn't record more than a few seconds. This one successfully recorded HR for 15 minutes continuously without any freezes. So, more testing to do on the HRM, but, so far looks like it was a good decision to go back for another one. Already took the other one back and got the refund. :fingers-crossed:

Cool. I am tempted by this watch but it looks like it's a lotery to have a good one (not red tint, good battery...)

Yeah, I think Huawei has some QC issues. Now, whether the watch I just got came from a different batch, and they did something in the interim to fix some of the problems, or if it is just a hit or miss thing, hard to say at this point. If we start getting a lot of reports of more recently purchased watches having few problems, that might suggest the former. The battery issue could still crop up though. This watch out of the box seems to be getting much better battery life.

OEM battery issues. Overheating when charging and dies quicker then it should.

Bought four AT&T S3's back in December for the wife, kids and myself and so far we love the phones. They all right great but all the sudden I've got weird battery issues.
One day I picked up my phone and the screen said something to the affect of it stopped charging because the battery was too hot. My phone felt like it was on fire. Another time it said something about the voltage being too high? Then as quick as they came, no more issues for like a month.
All of a sudden the error about the temperature came back again. If I use a battery app that gives me battery health information, everything looks GOOD. This is one of those issues where sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't. The problem is if I take it off the charger, it normally doesn't do it until it's been on the charger for a couple hours and then its not always happening.
Oh and sometimes it just gets REALLY hot and doesn't give any messages. One other thing, since it started my battery life has taken a hit. I was getting 24~36 hours with medium usage but now I'm lucky to see 12~15 hours under the same conditions. I'm on the newest stock-rooted ROM with no tweaks, no over-clocking. I only have root to have basic things like no ads etc. I've ran this ROM for months without issues and I've not installed any rouge apps, I have no wake locks. I checked all that. I even did a Nandroid backup and did a fresh install and the problem came back after a few days.
I would say I have this issue 2 or 3 times a week? I'm not sure that it's consistent enough that I could walk into AT&T and SHOW them though.
Defective battery? Under warranty? I don't have many AT&T Corporate stores around here, it's a good 45 minute drive to one from my house or work. I should probably figure something out though before my phone melts!
Thoughts? Suggestions?
If you call att, they can do a warranty exchange. They send you replacement, you have so many days to return defective unit or you get charged for it. I would warrantyit.
As he stated just warranty it. They are ton's of reasons this could happen and hopefully they will just give you another battery or you can get "new" phone.
I wouldn't mess with a battery getting hot. Is this just yours ?
Yeah its just mine. The wife and kids S3's are fine.
I have to go into the city with the ATT Corporate Store tomorrow, I'll drop by and see what they say. Actually I'll call them tonight, no sense in going in if they can't do anything for me.
Thanks.

hardware fault dead in under an hour

Well I'm disappointed!
phone arrived Yesterday. Worked perfectly whilst I added all my personal details then I decided to install asphalt 8, just to see how it performs (I don't actually intend to play it - can't stand the pay to win crap), and the phone made a nasty crackling sound and froze on the menu screen.
Powered down with power button, and on restart the screen is messed up with multi coloured lines running across it in various places. Then freezes, and reboots to repeat the process, the lines appear in different places. Sometimes makes it into the os, sometimes show the android error broken robot icon.
I'm guessing some fault with the graphic chip.
Luckily I bought direct from amazon so they are sending a replacement, but I have lost money on next day delivery, plus however much it costs to send back the phone (I'm in the UK but bought from mainland Europe) also not pleased my personal details are still on the device. At least I didn't import it from China.
Hopefully my phone was just a rare dud, and the replacement will be fine, as I can't find any similar reports online.
Anyone else had similar problems?
Yeah I would say that's a faulty unit. Sending it back is the right thing to do. Hope you get your money back
Sent from my ZE550ML
Well the replacement is great so far.
I noticed before the 1st one died that it was getting pretty hot on the back at the top, whilst simply going through the setup process.
The new one has been cool throughout setup, charging and about 3 straight hours of webbrowsing, so maybe the heat issue some are reporting is related to the hardware issue that killed my 1st one.
It does seem that quality control could be lacking, but as long as you buy from somewhere that offers returns, then i think its well worth buying.
I have just been using it as a mini tablet at home until i get a case and screen protector, so i dont know what the call quality etc is like, but battery on wifi has been pretty good.
Also, i charged it fully 3 days ago, and then left it on standby with wifi turned on and didnt use it. This moring it had over 80% battery, so standby time is much better than my s4 mini.

Random shutdown after latest update

When i try to start the watch, it seems to get to the watch face, but when i hit the settings, it seems to shutdown, and the only thing i can do is put back on the cradle. If i leave on the cradle it seems to work fine. What i don't understand is i have two of the same watch one black one silver, and the silver works flawless. I am wondering if i have to clear cache, or how do i collect a log of whats happening. I've tried factory reset. uninstalling aw app, nothing seems to work. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks
I am getting same thing for last couple updates. Don't even use watch anymore Cuz it just shuts off randomly. Tried clearing everything and reinstalling, etc. No luck so far.
Same thing here, but mine shuts down during my run when I listen music off of it, around 75-80% battery, but works fine when I use it normally, without connected Bluetooth headphones
I've been getting random shutdowns for the last few months.
Sometimes I feel like it's triggered by lots of vibrating on the watch, but no correlation to battery level, most of the time it's in the 60% percentage.
I've done a factory reset and deleted and uninstalled and reinstalled android wear on the phone several times, and it always fixes it temporarily...
Sounds epidemic.
How hard was it to get a replacement?
Anybody able to find a fix? TIA
Same problem. At first I figured it was a but that came with an update and would get fixed on the next one. I stopped wearing it for a while. Now, months later, still doing it.
I got the 360 the first day it was available. I'm thinking that I'm probably out of warranty now. Should have placed a complaint when it first happened.
Has anyone found a resolution?

My experience is nearly identical to yours. Bought my Moto 360 on release day, it started having problems about 9 months shutting down. I factory reset, removed apps, eventually upgraded to a different phone, all the problems continued.
When I finally called Moto support, my warranty had expired, but they told me for $100 they'd replace it. I did that and just got my replacement, and I must say it's Awesome. I forgot what it was like to have a smart watch that lasts 18 hours and never shuts down regardless of how much I use it!
So, $100... you can buy a new or refurb Moto 360 for that online, so maybe it's not worth it. It's still a great smart watch IMO though. At this point I feel no need to upgrade to 2nd gen.
For the defects, this appears to be a widespread problem for Moto 360 1st gen. Best of luck to you.
still any solution
Did anyone find solution to this?
I've the same problem. In fact, it won't restart until I put if back in the cradle. On top of that, I no longer get any messaging/email notifications.
Well, about 16 months in to my replacement and it started happening again... OG Moto 360, just like the original. I suppose it's time to upgrade. Still, 16 months for $100 outdated technology smart watch worn every day isn't terrible.
I had the same issue, would randomly shut down and whenever I tried to open an app or settings it would just die. It was the battery, i found a replacement battery on ebay for around $25 replaced it and now it's working as expected.

Wow, seriously?! I just looked, and sure enough the batteries are all over eBay. How difficult was it to replace?
not too hard to replace... Check out the instructions on YouTube... Took me about 15 minutes

Moto 360 2nd gen reboot loop

My watch has entered a weird state. Probably after an update but I haven't noticed anything.
While off charger, it just tries to restart all the time. The screen is black and every 10 seconds it does once or twice a short vibration. In one case I noticed it went further with the boot up sequence and occasionally I can see bootloader / fastboot there (dark screen, small colorful text, debug info). This is happening until the battery dies off.
When I put it on charger, it usually starts booting up. It often goes up to the "Installing apps 1 of 20" screen. Very often it restarts itself during this phase but sometimes it goes beyond that and the watch actually starts. I can see the charging indicator and change it colors with swipe.
If removed from the charger, it immediately dies
What's weird that after a while, the charging indicator disappears and is replaced with the actual Android Wear interface I can interact with. I tried to go to settings and hit reset, but it just restarts the watch. Doesn't do the reset.
Usually the longer the watch sits in the charger, the worse the behavior is (ie it's just constantly restarting after a while). I get the best results when I let the battery die and then put it on the charger.
Also the watch is really really warm the whole time.
To me it seems like a software problem. If it was a phone, I'd just invoke factory reset somehow, over the cable or through boot menu. Is there a trick how to do it with the watch as well? Are there any stores with required equipment? I really don't want to send it back.
Same here mate, did you eventually solve it?? How? I really don't want to return it..

I did not. I used my warranty and sent it back to Motorola. I have a new watch now.
I understand that you don't want to return it. The process was extremely long, painful and annoying. They decided that I'm entitled to get a new watch pretty quickly and sent me a coupon for a new one. I never got that coupon. I spent lots of time calling Motorola trying to find out what was going on and it took a couple of weeks before they found where the mistake was. When they finally sent me the coupon, it was only for the base watch, it did not cover the metal band and the special bezel that my original watch had. So more calls and e-mails to Motorola followed...
Anyway, I know this is the last thing you want to hear but the sooner you accept that your watch is just broken, the sooner you'll get a new one I wish you more luck than I had.

You're right, not what I wanted to read... I turned it off now, with the silly hope to wake up tomorrow and see it working again. While leaving it on the charger it became way too warm.
The worst is that this is my wife's watch, and she is even less patient than I am
Damn
Hello,
I have the almost the same issue. Last Friday my watch died randomly when I walked home from work. The screen went black, flashed a bit in different colors and then died. Haven't been able to turn it on since. When I try to charge it, it keeps getting stuck in a reboot loop. I can't do nothing...super annoying. It's been 10 months for me since I bought it but I guess that's out of these "6 months warranty" that then give. Crazy, only 6 months!
Same issue

Is my battery shot??

Hi,
Looking for a wee bit of guidance, from the experts here, prior to taking some drastic measures.
I've had my Z1C for just over 2 years (I just switched over to a sim only deal a couple of weeks ago). I'm quite happy with everything, and it still runs fine - apart from what appears to be a dodgy battery life. Battery has always been fine, until about the last month, when I noticed things becoming a bit funny.
Here's a screenshot of what happened yesterday, when I got home. I put my phone in my gym bag around 1930 (when the network went red), and then got home around 2200. When I got home, it was still in my gym bag, although would be connected to wifi. I went to bed kinda late at 0230 (ooops), and when I got it out my bag (I use it for my alarm), I was amazed to find it completely dead. Can anyone explain why it appeared to lose 50% of battery within a few minutes??
Should I do a factory reset?? Is the battery totally gone, and am I looking for a new phone??
Many thanks in advance!!

Hard to say after only 1 time. Wait it out and see if it happens again, it could have been a fluke. It's fairly common - http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...ttery-reporting-phone-dying-suddenly-t3095120

@levone1, many thanks for the link. I'm not a frequent visitor here, and hadn't done a thorough search. That thread will be interesting reading.

Just for anyone reading this - my phone is experiencing the same problems - shutting off with anywhere from 40-60% battery left. I've read through the thread linked above, and the only resolution is a replacement battery.
I've ordered a battery and replacement rear cover from www.replacebase.co.uk, which should arrive early next week. I'll do the fix and report back.

Battery and replacement rear cover arrived on Saturday morning - less than 48 hours after placing the order. I followed any one of the numerous videos on youtube showing phone dissassembly and battery replacement, and all went fine. Phone is like new now. You do have to carefully remove the NFC sticker and transplant it onto the new battery - make sure to line up the little pressure connectors.
Again, many thanks to @levone1 for his help.
Have you wiped your system battery stats file? Have you changed your ROM recently? If both questions have the answer "NO" - it is worth it to find some guides (here in XDA) for deleting the battery stats - it isn't guaranteed to actually notice any difference, but it is good to try (especially now, with the new battery)
I'm waiting for my replacement battery too as I suspect that my battery is going to be dead soon. It is heating up rapidly when the charge is below 20-15%.
same here. it lasts for past few months, persists thru rom variations (cm, aosp, stock) and sometimes gets better for a while but goes bad again. suddenly drops from anything above 50% to as low as about 20%, and then to zero & shut down in matter of minutes. back on charger it goes from zero to 100% in about 15 minutes, i guess my charger evolved overtime to extra quick one. lately the full charged battery doesn't lasts morning to afternoon with moderate usage. as the behaviour persists between roms and as there are no suspicious wakelocks either, i guess its hardware thing not fixable by wiping battery stats or similar mumbo-jumbo, so i replaced battery the other day and now the phone is perfectly fine again.
however, as there are a large (and growing) number of similar posts and same-looking screenshots all around, device is circa two years old, and minding that the battery isn't replaceable easily like "open the back cover and replace", it all looks like sony managed to put two-year batteries inside waterproof case that goes dead just by the end of usual user's contracts, so you could either go to service for replace or - yes you're right - buy a new device by the end of contract for us that aren't on the contract but we did unlock the bootloader the price of official-service is sky high because of unlocked bootloader, at least in my country. in the end it's all corporate math, pardon my conspiracy theory
Google "google play services 9.2.56 battery drain" and you see people with all sorts of phones and tablets having the same issues.*
