to root try kingroot, another option would be to use lg flash tools (to enter in download mode while holding volume up connect it via usb to ur pc), flash KK kdz and root using towelroot.
there is a recovery, TWRP but only works on KK from what i understand.
cyanogenmod isnt available for it.
to go back to stock even with no flags saying u where rooted, just flash a kdz either KK or L (ur choice) and factory reset after.

Hi, not sure if this thread is the right place to post this, since device is: VK70023A B14.LGE.VK700.0 LG-Gpad 10.1" VK700.0 Lollipop 5.0.2, but rather than start another thread
I'll post it here and hope someone's looking! I'm trying to inject root using this method, so far I've managed to get a copy of the system image, root it, and push it back to the device no problem, lol well, more or less, no problem, but it took a bit of help . The method's for a G4, but I'm pretty sure it'll work for this one too, the last OTA unfortunately broke all the current root methods, tried all of the above and more and, nothing, so in desperation I figured I'd give the G4 method a shot (it's my own image so how bad could it be?). The problem I'm having now is that (and correct me if I'm wrong here, this is my first attempt at flashing this, or any, tablet), when I go back to Windows and run (from Send_Command.exe in download mode):
Code:
#/system/bin/toolbox dd if=/data/media/0/Download/rootedsystem.img bs=8192 seek=40960 count=351232 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p32
#LEAVE
...the download progress goes to 100% immediately, (the dd params are correct for this tab) but the device just boots normal (shouldn't it be loading 'rootedsystem.img'? Would lgflash tools help here?), I've tried it with and without "seek" and "count" with same result, is there something else I need to be doing to get it to load? The person helping me (even adjusted the 'autoroot.sh' script to work with this device) in that thread doesn't have this device so can only go so far in helping if there's something totally different about the 10.1 that needs to be done. Hopefully that's enough info to go on, everything I've done so far is in that G4 thread but I can consolidate it all and post it here if need be, just let me know, at any rate, if I'm successful I'll probably make a thread with all that in it anyway in case anyone else is having the same problem, tho I don't see many with this model (not sure why). Any help's appreciated!
Thanks in advance

Is there a reason there is no development of this device? CM would be excellent.

[Q] TWRP + OTA update = bootloop! help needed!

Hello everyone,
Today showed up on my Gpad an update that automatically started to download.
So I thought ''if it is downloading, why don't I give it a try?''
Big mistake.
I am rooted with TWRP 2.7.0.0 and stock 4.4.2 rom..
My Gpad after I press confirm it tried to reboot. After the device shut down and try to power on, it stuck in a bootloop on TWRP.
Every time I try to power it off and then power it back on it starts on TWRP and stay there even if I press reboot on TWRP it does the same loop.
After this idiotic move of mine I would like to have help from someone who knows how to restore the device..
Also is there any way to restore the device in TWRP or to do the update manually from the file that is already downloaded in my device
(from TWRP)?
Any help would be very very appreciated!

Did you not make a back up after rooting your tablet? If so, simply restore from your backup.
generally, it is advised that before you update a rooted device's ROM, to create a nandroid backup first, just to be sure. As OTA's from non-OEM's aren't as stable as OEM's, nor do they provide warranty if you get stuck in a boot loop. To fix the issue, download your ROM image to the "root" of your microSD, go to recovery, wipe cache/dalvik cache, then try to install the ROM image. If it still fails, I'm afraid you may need to do a fresh install (wipe the device fully, before making a fresh install of your ROM.). This should fix your problem, though you loose your data. Unfortunately, thats one of the risks of modifying our devices. One that I had to learn the hard way (by hard, I mean hard brick).
At any rate, hope this helps.
Thanks for the quick reply guys!
I have not made a backup of my files.
So now I'm downloading slimkat for a little change..
(also is there a way to create a backup of my files with TWRP and restore them on Slimkat?)
[UPDATE]
I wiped cache / dalvik and then install the Slimkat ROM but the same problem persists, then I did a factory reset from TWRP
and then install the ROM, but still the same
Is there any way to unroot your device from the PC?

I don't have my tablet with me to check for you, however, I am pretty sure I found a file explorer within TWRP. Perhaps you may be able to copy from there. Explore the tool abit its quite user friendly and well made. Otherwise, you can make a nandroid backup to create a full backup of your system and try to extract from PC via WinRAR (if the backup is in tar), or some explorer app... see below for details:

Thanks for the tip, I'm sure it will help me in a future failure!
I have already done everything you said without succeeding anything ,so I'm trying to un-brick it with LG's support tool
and I can not get it to recognize my connected Gpad, so I put manually the model and serial number but still it can't see any connected devices...
Now I'm 100% stuck :/

sorry for what happened. have you tried to wipe all data, and all cache then try to do a fresh rom installation? I am not sure why LG cannot see your device. But a wild guess is its something about your recovery because its no longer stock perhaps???
if you can reach recovery, you should be able to fix the issue by wiping all the data (except external SD), wiping all cache (including dalvik), then install your custom ROM. Have happened to me already although different cause from yours but I was still able to restore it although I did loose all my data. But as I said before, its the price to pay for tinkering with our devices.
Hello guys,
Same problem for me, Stock 4.4.2 with TWRP, the OTA update make my GPad boot only on TWRP, no way to get my system back.
I try this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2772902
Successful My GPad is booting correctly on Android !
Damn!! I read to late your answer, I install a couple of minutes ago the complete stock 4.4.2 V50020d from LG's support tool.
In a previous post I said I was stuck but not really.. I forgot that I have to press volume + and volume - while connectiong the USB cable to enter download mode
But everyone having the same problem with me should really give a try to what JaymZ37 said above.
Peace to everyone and thanks for your replies!

Yesterday its hapen to me the same ptoblem.......
after searching i fount the soloution and they work perfect !!!!
>>>>>>>
I saw this thread: http://forums.androidcentral.com/gen...load-mode.html
"What worked for me was from the TWRP terminal command to the Root folder and was type
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota
(they have space on ....... dd_if=/dev/zero_of=dev....... only)
then hit enter
type
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc
(the same here)
then hit enter and reboot."
<<<<<<<<<
Here's the original solution given in our forum:
[FIX] Installed TWRP and now you're stuck after OTA?
And the additional command was given in this post by brentkhack:
What worked for me was from the TWRP terminal command was to type
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota
then hit enter
type
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc
then hit enter and reboot.
got help from the IRC xda-devs for the second step to complete the fix.

[Q] LG Optimus G Soft-Bricked? Please help me to recover my phone

Hey Guys,
First post and i already got a problem because i messed up very much
I used to have Cyanogenmod 11 on my Optimus G, but i got several crashes and i wasnt completely fine with it so i wanted to try something new. So i updated my bootloader from CWM to TWRP and wanted to flash Artmod 5.2 Rom. I was a bit fast with my wiping, so i accidentally wiped the whole phone, so that everything was gone: Cyanogenmod, new Artmod rom i wanted to flash just everything.
I read a bit and thought it shouldnt be a problem then to just sideload the new rom, which i tried to do. I used adb sideload to put Artmod on the phone, everything was fine, flashing went through but i got stuck at the LG boot logo at the start of the phone. I waited like 30 minutes and nothing did change, so i thought something was not right.
I then just wanted to go back to cyanogenmod, tried to flash that through the adb sideload procedure but i got an error which said "error executing updater binary in zip 'tmp/sideload.zip'".
I was kinda thinking something really messed up so i tried to revert the phone to stock rom with the correct KDZ file i searched with the tool linked in the FAQ, everything downloaded but when i tried to flash the KDZ it gave me an error like this:
"12:03:59 Launching SW update
12:03:59 Unpacking KDZ
12:05:10 KDZ file extracted
12:05:11 Extract file error
12:05:13
===FINISH===="
So i searched the forums again and noticed that it should be a problem with the KDZ updater tool because the KDZ file was too big to get flashed properly. I wanted to try the LG Flash Tool 2014 then which is provided here in the forums and should work, it extracted the KDZ file, then opened the LG Mobile Support Tool to flash the file on the phone but there i start to get errors again, it either said that i am already on the correct up to date software version or that i need to disconnect the USB cable, remove the battery, insert it again, restart and try again.
I used several tools for that, i even tried it with an offline method that i found in a german forum, but every method got me the same errors, so i couldn't even go back to stock anymore.
I once tried to flash Cyanogenmod then again when i realized that the error message also told me "This Rom is for a "E975", this is a "GEE"" which i did not completely understand because it should be the total same? I edited the Updater-Script in the Zip file of the rom then and removed the part where it checks for that (1st line actually), then the rom did flash properly, phone started to boot (Cyanogenmod Boot Logo was shown) but when the boot was over i got the message:
"Type Password to Decrypt Storage" with a keyboard to enter the password. (I did never set up any password for that).
Now i am completely confused what i can do the recover my phone, either to stock or just to another rom, every method i tried did not work and i dont have any other ideas.
I can go into Fastboot, Recovery and Downloadmode, but when i tried to wipe again in Recovery it says that it cant mount my data mount point (probably because the storage is encrypted).
Somebody told me to do a hard reset with the keys "Volume down and power" which i tired several times, but everything i get is just the Google boot logo and then happens nothing or i get the Google logo, then the LG logo but after that i get stuck again, I cant seem to go into the "Hard Reset" menu which i should get into with that keys.
Anybody can help me what I could try or got a solution for this? I would be very thankful. I don't wanna loose my phone

Don't worry, that's pretty standard scenario for the first post...

Flash Tool 2014 works great for me every time, so try it again. Make sure you disconnect from the Internet before running it (yank out your LAN cable, or disable your WiFi), so it doesn't attempt to connect to LG servers. And don't forget to put your KDZ file in the same directory with the tool. It should go through just fine. That's by far the easiest method to revert back to stock, to get you to a clean starting point.

Umm... No, they are not the same. E975 is "geehrc", and there is no such OEM ID as "gee". There are many different OG variants. For the cross-reference between the models and OEM IDs, you can look here. Generally, you should stick to the ROMs that are designed for your model, unless you know exactly what you are doing, when trying to flash a ROM from a different platform.

Well i tried Flash Tool 2014 again and seem to get the same error that wants me to disconnects as it stops at the same position like it always did, also doesn't matter if I am connected to the internet or not, everytime it doesn't run through. This time I couldn't even read the stuff that was written in the LG Mobile Support tool because it only shows "????".
Heres a Screenshot:
The settings i made should be the right ones I think, the phone does get recognized by the computer when i plug it in because of the sound that windows makes.
I clearly dont't know what I can try anymore...
And according to the roms: well i only used roms for the E975, which is exactly my phone model, thats why i was wondering about that error message i got
Artmod is for E975, the CM11 was for E975, i even tried Mokee rom but i always got same error messages...
Nobody got another idea? I really am confused because if i can enter downloadmode and recovery there should be a way to get my phone back working.
Anybody knows where i can get maybe some older KDZ Files to go to 4.1.2 Stock rom and try to flash these?
problem

I don't know why you are seeing "???", but here is a couple of things regarding the settings, based on your screenshot:
1. Type should be CDMA (yours is 3GQCT).
2. PhoneMode should be DIAG (yours is CS_EMERGENCY).
3. I would suggest using CSE Flash for a full format (you are using Normal Flash).
Remember, this is a hacked tool, so the settings might not make perfect sense, comparing to the original ones. Just try following the instructions in the OP of the Flash Tool 2014 thread. Like I said, works every time for me...

Glad to hear you are back in business. After flashing KDZ, the root is definitely gone, your BL is locked, and the recovery is stock. You will need to do all the necessary steps again: root, unlock the BL and flash custom recovery.

noob to G Pro(E980) - SUCCESS!

Should get it tomorrow - used E980(ATT)
My plan is to OTA update (wifi) to the latest (May 2014 (h) I believe)
Then towel root to root it (latest I could find is 111KB)(2 locations including the lambda)
Then play install SuperSU and install that (I normally flash SuperSU from recovery after flashing a ROM(and gapps))
Then, if root tests okay:
install FreeGee from play and run it to unlock BL and flash recovery (probably Philz, or CWM since BlissPop seems to have trouble with TWRP)(or versa visa)(darn)
Intent is to then upgrade stock to make it usable (apps and all)(TiBkpPro, etc), and then back it up and play with BlissPop and/or CM11N, and whatever.
Anyone see any problems with my plan?
THANKS!!!

but, since you've got TWRP, bootloader is unlocked, ergo, stock is rooted. Try install SuperSU from googleplay, and run it. Check with checkroot app. Dunno as I am not at all experienced with any LGOGP. Good luck!!!

It's rooted after I found a method. Using Korean G Pro root method than I manage to flash recovery via flashify. Other recovery that require's loki I am unable to use it, cannot flash CM11 ROM's on it.
Like this, if I can't put CM on it I leave it in drawer pending for selling. P/s: I didn't use the phone more than 4 hours. LOL

Uh, yeah - you were off topic, HOWEVER, it appears that freegee is not working correctly as it failed on my E980. I used that app to send shellnut an email, so hopefully he sees that and fixes that if possible. (Note, my E980 arrived with 20h - ie - current.
So while waiting for that, at least I have root so I will go ahead and spruce up stock and back it up. if it doesn't get fixed, I will be relatively happy on stock as many seem to like that best.

where did you get that recovery file you are using?
KrisM22 said:
THANKS!!!

Hi, and thanks for that note.
However, I have no way to flash anything other than stock as freegee doesn't work and the thing, I think it was you, suggested(G Pro Recovery GK), didn't either.
Slightly bummed... LOL At least I have root and can run stock tailored.

Why doesn't Freegee work? I know I could never get it to work unless I flashed the Sphinx GPro recovery first, as Freegee wouldn't recognize my e980 as worthy until I did so. Then after that Freegee would open-arm me and let me pick between its CWM or TWRP recovery. (I don't bother with any of those anymore, as I've put together a batch file that does it all in one swoop, as I'm constantly flashing my phone, and I can't be bothered with Towelroot or Freegee's online-only crap. So there.)
The game goes:
- Root.
- (I always install the ADBD Insecure app here, as you can then remount the system as read/write, full root access via ADB, so no more clock-blocking to impede your dominance.)
- Flash Sphinx GPro Recovery, but *do not* reboot into it, as you *will* get errors when you try to flash most anything. Instead, directly after install the recovery from Sphinx GPro:
- Install Freegee and now that GPro recovery is flashed, Freegee will recognize your device and should work flawlessly.
There is also the option of flashing the TWRP 2.8 from the Sphinx GK Recovery, as it is by far the very nicest recovery option for this device. It is, however, buggy, and not rock-solid like the Freegee TWRP. There is also Philz recovery, which has a lot more features than CWM, but every time I've used it (many times), it has gave me problems and forced me to flash back to stock. IMHO: Freegee's CWM or TWRP is the way to go for stability, and the way to go for successful flashing.
(Note: this is for an e980, anything else is uncouth.)
Thanks for reply!
okay, what I did was
(run towelroot and install SuperSU (from play), run that and reboot)
install "adbd insecure" (from play) and checked both boxes
ran sphinx gpro recovery 6044 (link above) but didn't reboot.
ran freegee and had it install cwm6047
Now how do I boot into cwm : vol-up+power !
EDIT: don't forget to put this on your SD card http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-g-pro/help/guide-how-to-fix-recovery-bootloop-t2950716 so you can escape the boot to recovery loop.
PM me your paypal and I'll donate thanks!!!

From device off:
- Hold VOL+ and POWER key together until you the LG logo comes up, then briefly let go of the power button then immediately press down again, while still holding the VOL+ button, and hold it until the LG logo screen disappears, then let go of both of those buttons and tap VOL-, VOL-, POWER -- do not hold, just tap (I'm not certain this last step is needed, but it doesn't hurt, as long as you don't hold the buttons down, just tap, quickly press.
That'll get you into TWRP.
Or you can boot up the device entirely, normally and use ADB to do it,
via a shell/console/command prompt:
adb devices <---- this should read 'device' and not unauthorized.
adb reboot recovery <---- this will reboot your device in recovery mode.
If you get into TWRP and the touchscreen doesn't work, that can be fixed/bypass by initiating a device reset from a cold boot (holding down both volume buttons and power button until it asks for Reset, then pressing power again to go for it). Sometimes it's a problem, but since you did GPro over kitkat first, probably not.
EDIT: okay, I see CWM is now on the menu: same deal, just ignore the touchscreen TWRP part, as you'll probably be thankful to *not* use the touchscreen in CWM (it's a bit annoying and laggy, but usable, whereas TWRP w/o touchscreen is worthless).

Thanks! I had edited that post while you were replying.
I used freegee again to just flash cwm 6047 since twrp didn't seem to want to backup to external sd card. I just backed up with cwm and restoring now to check it...
Huge thanks!!!!

Thanks, but 'XDA Guidelines, Standard Conduct, and Practices, Vol. VI' maintains that all donations less than 6 digits in size, must be funneled into at least one of these prequalified outlets, and I quote,
- Taking mom out for pancakes.
- Spoonfeeding a homeless person two cheeseburgers (lullaby optional).
- Scratch & Lose lottery ticket surreptitiously deposited into a place where the results of discovery can be viewed and enjoyed.
- Chili dogs.
- Cat litter + shelter/pound = not quite chili dog-level, but quite admirable.
...
and it goes on, so forth, in that manner. I'd just dump it all into a Galaga machine anyways.

[Q] LG G Pro F240L, no recovery at all, and no root to flash one with

So I have an LG G Pro F240l
So essentially, because I flashed the wrong recovery (the F240k, as that's what I thought the phone was), this means I have no recovery.
I cannot root my phone, because basically the recovery doesn't exist.
I can use adb.
I can't do anything after booting other than use ADB, because "LG IMS has stopped working" will constantly appear and impede my ability to achieve anything (this occured after flashing the new lolipop update, which while it technically worked, I should have done a factory reset before doing it.
KDZ files are only the roms, I can flash those fine.
I have a 4.4 rom, and the new lolipop build in terms of those files.
I am unable to locate the tot or dll files I need for my F240l
First, removing LG IMS would make life easier, as that should theoretically fix the problem, making the OS at least useable.
Secondly, how would I go about getting myself a recovery that works (even the stock recover), and flashing it without already having a recovery?
Is there a way I can temporarily root the phone without going into recovery at all?
Please help, I'd rather not have a $160 paperweight..
Edit: I've gotten the ROM working, but I still have no way to root or install a recovery.

Make sure you have LG Suite installed and of course all the drivers. Put the phone into download mode and engage Repair Upgrade Errors in LG Suite. You should get back to stock.

I just did this, all it did was re-flashed the same rom I already had (presumeably the .kdz) file. The recovery is still missing and only showing a an android with a compartment open and a red exclamation point.

This is a wild shot in the dark, but try holding vol down, home, power.. then wait for prompt and confirm hard reset with power button. then try the lg suite "repair upgrade" again while in download mode. Hope you can sort it out.

[solved] G4 H815 - What kind of loop I have entered ? TWRP and supersu on marshmallow

I have rooted all my phones.
I was following a tutorial to root my LG and instead of flashing TWRP I was advised to boot TWRP which I did (fastboot boot recovery.img)
Using TWRP in that mode I flased supersu.zip, then phone went into a loop.
Not sure where I ended up
When I enter "adb devices" it shows my G4 as offline.
How can I move from this point please ?
Hi guys?
Any ideas ? Please.

if you can enter download mode vol up connect usb then download corresponding KDZ file and flash with LGUP using the refurbihsed option. good luck
adb offline means you have to accept the popup on the phone when connecting to the phone from that pc. If your screen is not accesible then you have to flash the kdz as mentioned above.
Next time, when you enable the USB debug, also connect to the pc and answer that popup. and you should be good.
Thanks guys
Are you sure I would be able to flash KDZ ?
I flashed supersu.zip without TWRP installed and now when I turn on my phone, LG logo shows up but boot process isn't progressing.
Probably too early for PC to detect mobile and I suspect thtats why it shows offline in adb...
I'm very cautious about guide/how-to I follow now. If you have any links on flashing KDZ that you could share I would appreciate.
Also - what will flashing KDZ do exactly ? Flash new system directly to /system partition ? (just trying understand)
If using LG UP you can choose Upgrade that will only write the system, or choose Refurbish, this will erase /data so you will end up fresh. It depends on what you want.
I am sorry for late reply. Very busy week, and needed to sleep a bit...
Fortunately LGUP is working. I have Uk version of my G4 (exactly H815 unbranded. No more info under battery).
- How can I be sure I am getting correct KZD file?
I'm downloading H81520D_00_0115.kdz but never used those and I don't want to flash wrong one...
I have found also H81520h_00_-516.kdz.
Don't want to be a pest but... if it's a matter of quick google search for you - could you be so kind and drop correct link for me ?
I cannot check anything with phone in this state

V20h is newer so you should flash that. If you go to general threads section you will see that there is v20l that is even newer than v20h, and is from UK. Happy flashing
Edit: here you go with the link to the new firmware thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3480887
OK, I'm not sure what is the problem here but thanks to your advise I restored system. Everything was working fine. Then I installed TWRP. Then using TWRP I flashed UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip and then... phone wen to the same loop as it was before.
Could it be some incompatibility of supersu ? Or perhaps I need some kernel or other items. Or perhaps other root manager ?
Ok, found the problem. On Marshmallow flashing supersu will not work - I flashed pre-rooted kernel and works like a charm. Just a shame I had to spend half of my sunday flashing, erasing, backing up, restoring, etc.
Thanks for your help guys!
