New Update OJ5 Rolling Out "Battery Usage Optimization" (Nov 2015) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

New Update OJ5 Rolling Out (11/2/2015)
Samsung have a Doze like feature now in battery setting “App Optimization." Supposedly, this helps the battery immensely in standby mode. It stops apps from refreshing in the background. See screenshots.

Downloading now,thanks for the info.

Installed this update earlier, didn't really look into to. My complaints about battery is the idle or deep sleep, it drains 12-15% overnight, and the WiFi eats a ton of battery too. Don't think this update has addressed the WiFi drain issue yet.

Give this a try: Setting ---> Wifi ---> Advanced ---> Turn off "Keep WI-FI on during sleep" + "Always allow scanning"

It might be helpful to let people know exactly what you want to download.
I have lot's of download links! LOL
Good luck,
Have a great day!

this update really killed my battery life. Android OS is how taking up about 17% of the battery when it used to take up about 5 before.

Try and clear cache. That's what I did after update and the phone has been running great

I grabbed the latest ota and the first day sucked my life in half. I let it do its optimizing stuff and its back to normal life. So 14hrs in total mixed useage with 5hrs ost.

It has been about a week and my standby time has greatly increased. I work at a big box store and after 8 hrs with little usage my battery would be at 50% . Since the update my battery will be at 80% when I leave work. I went from 18 to 20 hrs of battery to 27 hrs of battery . So I am very happy with the app optimization processes. Its' just like doze .

6h 40m 59s (aprx: 4h 38m left) with 3h 11m 39s SOT. Is that good or nah ?

It depends of the other "consumers". 40 % means that it's consuming 40% of the 100% total consumed at every point in time. So, if the overall battery drain is low, 40% from that, doesn't necessarily mean too much.

But wow.. 1 day and 7h and 40% battery? Which ROM/Radio are you using?
I can't even get 24 hours with almost not using the phone..
Id be happy with 24. I barely get 6 lol
I am able to get almost 30 hours of usage and even after that I got 25-30% left. Using 11.14 radio + DeFrost 5.7 with SetCPU on ondemand. Been 15 hours(Mostly on standby with Wi-Fi + Nimbuzz on) and I still got 80% left .

I'm also with this and have results but not as good as you.. maybe because i'm using a Sense ROM I also had SetCPU in interactive.. will try and see if ondemand is better!
Hours will be many if Display on time is low (below 4-5 hours) or similar heavy processing is kept very low. Easy to get near 2 days with that usage with even the stock ROM.

Then I'm doing something wrong... I did calibrate the battery yesterday and it's a bit better... almost no usage and it's now 12hours uptime with 75% battery..
Are there any apps to monitor the apps that use most battery? The stock information is too restricted

They end up using more battery usually. Go to accounts and sync and make sure it isn't syncing crap in the background, by default Sense syncs News and weather every 15 minutes or so which drains a lot of battery. Also I'd recommend using Gmail with push rather than HTC Mail(Unless using the newer Froyo one with Exchange activesync) so that it doesn't check for new e-mails over and over again. Also don't install apps you don't need and widgets also consume battery. Make sure things aren't using Wi-Fi if you don't need them. And flashing richard's OCUV kernel for HTC Sense based ROMs will also help(Along with it use SetCPU with ondemand/conservative governor).

Post a Screenshot of your battery drain in the settings and give details about your setup. And what is fast in your opinion? 1% /hour?
Maybe you should buy the extended battery kit?

try flashing different kernels and see which one suits u the best.every phone is different.u may also wanna underclock and undervolt. also change the rom may b if changing kernel doesnot work.ine suggestion.XenonHD rom with its stock kernel.
The stock battery is a joke at 1800 and the extended is 2100...I had both and both sucked although the 2100 was a lil better. I have the 3800 Seiko battery now and that will last me all day. Makes the phone thicker but its better then charging all day and worrying about what's killing your battery.

Turn off features when not being used like data NFC GPS.
Also avoid auto task killers
How much does it drain in one hour? Battery drain depends on many factors. The mains ones would be what kernel and ROM you are running as well as what "features" you have turned on. For example I am running CM10.1 with the stock CM kernel and I usually get around 16-18 hours of battery life with 1.5-2 hours of screen time.. that is with all of the features (gps, NFC, etc.) turned OFF.

How on earth can you drain a 3800mAh battery in one day? Nonstop internet radio AND 3d gaming on full display brightness?
I am currently using PA rom with franco kernel. Normal day = roughly 13-15 hours ish.
By normal day I mean around 30 minutes of talk time, about 1 hour ish web browsing and like what, 30 minutes ish of youtube? Of course, sometimes I am free and end up playing games on it for couple hours lol, but the stock battery seems to be plenty enough to me.
My battery makes it about 15-17 hours, with about 1 hour gaming,1 hour browsing and talk time around 1,5 hours...Xylon + Purity Kernel!
It is what it is. This is Wi-Fi only on this charge:

Turn data off when not using it. You can download a widget for that.
Keep screen brightness down low.
If rooted use setcpu and choose a screen off profile of 350mhz maximum - I find this a real benefit.

Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the Samsung Galaxy S7's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.

The mine 0,5% a hour
Inviato dal mio SM-G930F utilizzando Tapatalk
I typically lose about 4-5% overnight. Not bad, but not as good as a Nexus
I have a massive batterydrain in standby when I am connected to WiFi. When I'm on mobile data I have no batterydrain at all in standby
I don't have a clue why it is like this
I lose 18% over 8 hours. Maybe I'll try turning wifi off tonight. That said, battery life overall seems really good. No problems whatsoever getting through a full day on one charge.

Go to WiFi > more > keep WiFi on during sleep > off
More than likely your WiFi is causing the drain by the always scanning feature turned on

Hey man,
I have the exynos version. Still on stock, i just used "package disabler pro" - as you do - to get rid of all the bloatwares and apps i don't use.
Oh, and i don't know if that's relevant, but i disabled the fast charge, in order not to preserve the - non switchable - battery, it still charges quite fast.
I've checked three times now, i was never below 99% when i woke up.
Hope it helps.

I am having massive battery drain
My phone drops 20% in 2 hours on standby and I'm at my wits end trying to figure out why android os is taking 500mb of data a day
20% Over night absolutely not normal!
Have to recharge phone twice a day.
I am on stock and cannot apply root (this is company phone).
When I had Nexus 5, battery drain was not so horrible.
Here is a picture of my battery drain
From start I have WiFi on and then I turn WiFi off and the battery drain stops
Can't understand why WiFi is draining my battery like this ?

Marshmallow update battery life improvements?

So I was wondering how is everyone doing on MM as far as battery life is concerned? I am getting remarkable battery life since updating. I do have Greenify and the new battery features in MM are helping already. 15 hours since plugged in, 7 hours standby, 8 hours moderate usage and battery is at 49% that's amazing!
How is it looking for you guys?

I'm at 10 hours since plugged in. 48% remaining. Moderate to heavy calls, Net searching, EMails with attachments and texting. No video watching but still, very good battery life and NOT so far enabling Greenify nor any special third party options. Plus I leave Wifi as well as Bluetooth on which I know can kill battery. Overall a good thing.
Well with me is quite the opposite way , I was getting 3 or 4 hours SOT depending if the signal is good or if I'm using wifi calling, power saver etc. on lollipop ,now on MM for the first 3 days I can't reach 3 hours ,even today is really bad, wifi calling on form 8:15 am till 3:15pm and just 30 min of SOT it was 39% .... usually the same usage with Lollipop I would be ot 50-60 %
What's your average SOT, so far? After the update I'm having cell standby issues again, but worse this time. I think I'm going to do a factory reset soon.
Sent from my SM-G925T using XDA-Developers mobile app
I did a factory reset and it seems better now but can't tell yet ,because I work in area with very bad reception so I use Wifi calling all the time ( only wifi for calls not searching for cell signal) so the cell standby is high like 40% ,but when I'm off I'll use it more "normal" and I'll let you know. From 7am to 4pm I have like 45 min. SOT mainly texting ,FB and G+ and I'm at around 50% battery !
I still get the cell standby battery drain even with good signal and VOLTE off,it is always more than 14% in the stats, the other thing is Android OS is on first place always and Skype consumes more battery than before it's in top 4 ( signed in but running in background).

My cell standby drops down to 12% when the phone is being used moderately to heavily. When it's idle in my pocket at work it gets pretty high. I'm guessing there's no need to factory reset the phone if it's still the same. That's pretty annoying.
Sent from my SM-G925T using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yea,I did factory reset before the update and right after the update so... and even after few days again so these stats are after few factory resets I don`t think it would help much if you do factory reset !

Question Screen on time

Hello i own iPhone 12 pro max, but heavily considering oneplus 9 pro because of being lighter and having less width, how much screen on time you guys getting and LTE/Wi-Fi mixed and auto brightness after updates?
I have tmobile version and I get anywhere from 7 to 8 1/2 hours
After the last update I'm getting 6-8h SOT with lower resolution, 120hz and WiFi and LTE 50/50, BT always on, sync on. When I'm using my phone as WiFi hotspot i can get only 2-3h SOT.
Before update I had 3 to 5h max.
This is where I'm at currently. A little less screen time then normal but that's because I was playing company of heroes.

I don't generally look up my screen on time but I can definitely say that there is significant improvement in battery life in star to day usage after that last update over the weekend. I can easily go the whole day if I don't get into an hours long gaming session.

Me too, driving on a trip and overheating just from maps. Really frustrating.
Tmobile version here. Not overly impressed with battery life so far, but I haven't gotten any new updates either. I turned down resolution just to see if that helps, but I hate having to hamper a high end phone for better battery life.
I'm around 4 hours SOT

Try leaving it plugged in overnight after wiping cache in recovery. I did that and it did wonders for my battery life. It's something to do with how google implemented app optimization it doesn't do it unless it's on the charger at 100 percent without being messed with that's why overnight works best.
