Possibly bricked HTC One M8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok,
Was installing the viper rom on my M8, and for some reason, now my phone is stuck in a boot loop. Obviously the install went pear shaped. But now I cant even boot the phone into recovery mode.
Boot sequence now is: Google lettering appears on screen, followed by green android with the blue spinning shape in its chest, then the green android with the red triangle and black exclamation mark appears and the whole thing loops again.
When plugged into the PC its not recognized so I cant use adb to boot into recovery or try load another rom/wipe cache etc.
I've tried all combinations of power button & volume up/down to break the boot sequence, no joy.
Any ideas how to resolve, or do I have a very expensive paper-weight?
Cheers,
sombaht

Rest assured, if the screen comes on, the phone isn't bricked.
Red triangle with exclamation point is stock recovery.
What was your exact sequence, in detail? From bootloader unlock, install custom recovery, etc.
Was the phone on Lollipop when you unlocked the bootloader?
To reboot into bootloader (not recovery, there is no button sequence to boot directly into recovery on this device):
1) Hold power and vol up for several seconds to force a reboot
2) The moment the screen goes black to reboot, let go of the buttons, and only hold vol down
3) Don't let go of vol down until you are on the bootloader screen
4) Failure to get into bootloader is virtually always user error. You either started pressing vol down too late, or let go of it too early. Just repeat until you get it right.
But from there, as mentioned it sounds like you are on stock recovery. You will probably need to flash TWRP again via fastboot in order to do much more.

Did you flash a custom recovery before you flashed the rom?? Can you boot in the bootloader mode (turn of Device completely- turn on again and hold volume down all the time.. then you should be in the bootloader)?
And your phone is not really bricked
Edit: damn to slow should not write on the phone

My friend, did you flash it using stock recovery or custom recovery? if you did flash it using stock recovery you will meet this kind of problems. I suggest you try power button and down if im not mistaken and go to hboot and fastboot usb and connect to adb, type fastboot devices in cmd if it detects your device then you can flash TWRP , find any kind of custom rom for M8 and flash it. I also assume your bootloader is unlocked and driver is installed in your PC.

Problem solved. Redpoint73's key press combination worked!

[Q] Stuck on HTC Logo after JB update

I've recently got the JB update so I installed it, or atleast tried. Because when I try to turn on my phone again it gets stuck on the HTC logo (White screen).
I think somehow my battery went down during the installation and now I can't access my phone anymore.
It's a clean phone, no costum ROM and I haven't rooted it in any way.
Is there a way to fix my problem? (Preferably withour rooting it.)
I tried holding the power and volume down buttons and then selecting recovery but that doesn't work as I just end up getting stuck on the black screen with the Red triangle.

Try going into HBOOT
Hold down Power button & volume down buttons together when the phone is switched off. This will take you into HBOOT.
Select Recovery using the volume down button and press power to select it.
Hopefully it is able to recover and re-flash the firmware.

That is exactly what I did, but I ended up on the black screen with the triangle (As stated in my first post).

Doh missed that bit Sorry to be of little help. Hopefully someone else can proffer a solution.
if it's an unrooted phone, HTC have been very good at fixing phones bricked during OTA in my experience (2 day turnaround)
When you see the phone with the red triangle before you want to enter the recovery press vol - and the power button.....or at least the vol - button. Can't recreate it as i am on a custom recovery. You will bypass the red triangle and will enter the recovery. Maybe a cache wipe wil do, or a factory reset !

I've tried the factory reset be just like the normal boot it gets stuck on the HTC logo.
Clearing the cache might work but doesn't your phone needs to be rooted for that?

I cant recall if wiping cache is an option in the stock recovery !?
One can erase cache using 'fastboot erase cache' after getting the phone to restart in fastboot mode. See here and go to the 'Try this first' section. Hope this helps.

Sounds like hboot version problem with JB upgrade, what version of HOX you have? what version of hboot? , maybe we can unlock your phone and recover the system with custom rom and then rollback to stock rom.

Bootloader not responding

This morning the phone was running sluggish and restarted several times, then finally got stuck on the boot logo (after the Google logo). I can Power + Volume Down into the bootloader, but the volume keys DO NOT work to access CWM Recovery. The power button seems to respond, but it only reboots the device and gets stuck again when the OS tries to load.
Finally got home today and install all the drivers into my new Windows 8 machine. Unfortunately, fastboot is not recognizing the device while on the bootloader screen. I even disabled Device Driver Authentication on my PC, but no luck. Why doesn't fastboot recognize the phone, and how could the phone be dead to the point the volume keys don't work in the bootloader? This is beyond frustrating...
EDIT: At the top of the bootloader, the device says "ODIN MODE". I am now trying ADB, but still not recognizing the device. Should the device be in a different bootloader state? Quite confused and over my head at the moment!
Verizon GNex running AOKP milestone 2 with CW mod recovery. Thanks in advance...
Well if only I'd have held Power+Volume Up+Down before! Got into recovery doing it that way, as embarrassing as this is.
Phone still getting stuck at the boot screen after reflashing the ROM. I'll try next wiping data and starting fresh, or dump AOKP completely.

Fastboot interface (vol up+vol down+power) is not the same as Odin mode (vol up+power).
ADB won't ever work on those two interfaces, don't even try. It only works on a stock recovery (partially; very limited i.e. sideload), on a custom recovery (full root access), or on Android OS (as long as USB debugging is on).

[Q] Unable to boot in recovery and fastboot.

Hello,
I have here a Desire HD which was running Ice Cold Sandwich. The ROM became unstable, so I wanted to give CM 10.1 a try. This Desire HD was been HTC Dev unlocked, but is still S-ON. So, I can't flash the boot partition from recovery. I rebooted the phone into fastboot and flashed the boot partition. (fastboot flash boot boot.img) I thought it was possible to reboot to recovery with fastboot, but it seems to be not possible. So I did "fastboot reboot". And that's where the misery started...
Although I was able to navigate through the bootloader with the volume rocker, I seem to be unable to boot the device in fastboot nor the recovery. It keeps booting ICS. However, the volume down seems only to work occasionally. Because it's not running the ICS boot.img, it's stuck in a bootloop. When the device is "booting" and I try to reboot the device using adb, I get the message that my computer is not authorised.
I do the following when attempting to boot in fastboot or recovery: (I don't really care if I get the device to boot in fastboot or recovery. I can get the device to work in fastboot or recovery.)
I make sure that the device is turned off completely by removing the battery. Then I hold the volume up (that seems to be the best working one) and after about half a second I press the power button. I hold both until the white HTC screen goes away. I also tried to let the powerbutton go at the moment that the HTC screen appears.
Quick summary:
State of the device:
HTC Dev unlocked.
Running Ice Cold Sandwich.
Recovery is 4EXT.
CM 10.1 boot.img.
Bootlooping.
Not responding when holding the volume button when booting.
Unable to connect to it using adb.
Can someone please, please help me? I'm usually not a noob, but I really f*****d it up this time.
The worst part is: it's not even mine...
I fixed it. The volume rocker seemed to be the problem. I removed the sticker under the battery cover and popped the buttons out. While holding the battery with my left thumb, using my left hand for pushing the volume down button and pushing the powerbutton with my left index finger I got it to boot to the bootloader. Yes, it was pretty awkward. I flashed the ROM from the SD card and it boots.
My problem is solved!

phone factory reset

Hello All,
my phone was bootloader unlocked, rooted, installed with custom ROM and custom recovery.
Selling it to my friend, I did a phone reset in the phone setting menu.
Seems like I have done the wrong way? should have done in the custom recovery menu (TWRP)?
Now seems like I can not boot up to recovery mode anymore, by pressing power & volume down button, it always boot up straight to normal state.
Questions:
Have I lost the custom recovery?
How do I re-install? go thru ADB mode?
Thanks!
That button combo reboots to bootloader, not recovery (which doesn't have a button combo to boot directly to). Its a subtle difference (recovery vs. bootloader), but important. Its nearly impossible for the phone to not be able to boot into bootloader (if the bootloader was damaged, you wouldn't even have the screen coming on). If that is what you are experiencing (can't get into bootloader), you are probably just doing the button combo incorrectly: Hold vol up and power buttons until the phone reboots. When the screen goes black, but before the white HTC logo screen appears, let go of those buttons, and only hold vol down. Don't let go of vol down until you see the bootloader screen. If the phone boots normally, you likely just got the timing wrong, either started pressing vol down too late, or let go of it too early. Just repeat until you get into bootloader.
Alternately, within OS (and debugging enabled) you can do:
adb reboot-bootloader
or
adb reboot recovery
Now, if you get into bootloader, select recovery, and TWRP still doesn't boot. Then yes I'd recommend fastboot erase cache, and re-install TWRP by fastboot.
Pardon me,
I used the wrong term, I mean boot to bootloader.
I also pressed the wrong buttons, vol down and power instead of vol UP and power.
Many thanks for your advise.

[GT-I9190] Soft Bricked, Odin says Pass but no apparent change

Hey Guys, No one seems to be able to help me with this problem so i've come here.
My device is soft bricked, when booted normally it stays on the Samsung Splash Screen, doesn't restart or anything it just freezes here.
I am able to get into Download Mode (Pwr + Vol Down + Home).
However though i am unable to access Recovery, When i press (Pwr + Vol Up + Home) it boots and shows the blue "Recovery Booting" in the top left then just Hangs on the TWRP 3.0.0-0 Slash Screen then reboots in normal mode.
I've tried flashing custom Roms and Recoveries (TWRP / CWM) via both Odin and Heimdall and it appears to be successful, however though absolutely nothing changes on the device, it still hangs on the Samsung Slash Screen in Normal Boot and
it shows the EXACT same TWRP 3.0.0-0 Slash Screen even after allegedly successfully flashing CWM.
So i'm clueless as to what is going on here.
Any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance.
i hate to bump but bump.
anyone got any ideas ?
