[I9300/I9305][KK 4.4.4] Stagefright patch for Samsung 4.4.4 based Roms [16/11/2015] - Galaxy S III Themes and Apps

Stagefright Vulnerability
What is Stagefright?
In simple terms, Stagefright is an exploit which utilizes the code library for media playback in Android called libstagefright. The libstagefright engine is used to execute code which is received in the form of a malicious video via MMS, thus requiring only the mobile number of the victim to carry out a successful attack.
More info: Stagefright Explained: The Exploit That Changed Android
What can I do about it?
I've made a patch of the Stagefright libs from the latest i9305 Samsung official firmware updates, it should work on all i9300 Custom roms running Android 4.4.4 and perhaps also the n7100/n7105. I've tested the patch on my ported Note 4 custom roms, which are based on the famous back-to-n00t rom. As it appears, unfortunately not all bugs have yet been fixed, vulnerability CVE-2015-6602 still remains, Im hoping this will be fixed in further updates from Samsung, in that case I will update the patch.
● PATCH UPDATED, ALL VULNERABILITYS FIXED!! 16/11/2015
As for now you may follow the workaround for staying safe: open your messaging app and navigate to settings --> multimedia messages and uncheck ''Auto retrieve'', this option is checked by default, so it will auto download all contents in a MMS message leaving your device vulnerable for attacks. You should NOT open any MMS messages from unknown numbers not present in your contacts list, delete them immediately! You should be safe as long as you don't download the contents of such MMS messages.

- S3 I9300
- N2 N7100

Don't forget to make a backup of your rom first! then flash the attached patch in Recovery.

Just reporting this patch working fine on GT-i9300 with back-to-n00t v8.
Much appreciated! :good:

Thank you for the patch. I tested on SHV-E250S with Eclipse V4 and N7105 with DN4 v2.2 and they are working fine.

Tested and it doesn t work on 4.4.2. So don t try to install it on 4.4.2 xD anyways great job !

it is working fine on 4.4.4 XEO

StageFright PATCH Not Worked 4 ME
Hello
And Thanks For the Nice Work .
I see others reporting about the Stagefright Pach that it worked fine on their device , which is a very good news. But unfortunately it didn't worked on my device ( Galaxy S3 i9300 ). My Android is Custom Rom , OmniRom 4.4.4. and I downloaded the patch , & flashed it in recovery . After that , the phone frozes on the Omni logo when booting up & no matter how much I wait , nothing happens then. I don't know if I did something wrong , but fortunately I had a backup from a few days ago & Restored my phone to it .
i would like to know the reason ,but cant figure out myself . I'll be grateful if you point out a solution about my problem ( if possible ) . Finally , Thank you again for the work & time to read my post. Best Luck .:good:

The reason is that this patch is meant for Samsung stock rom based custom roms and not AOSP based roms, such as Omnirom, Cyanogenmod etc. I dont know if there are stagefright fixes in Omnirom sources included, but better you ask that to your rom developer/maintainer.

Ive updated the patch, the last remaining CVE is now fixed :good:

:good:Thank you for your job

Just reporting that the patch works on AMCHA ROM V 7.00.
Thank you for this.

yeah fully protected now! 4.4.4 XEO

Reporting successful installation and protection enabled on Eclipse ROM v5 for Samsung GT-N7100 Android 4.4.4. Thank you very much!!!!!

You need to test it with a app that you can download from playstore, its called ''Stagefright detector'' by Zimperium, after flashing the patch check it with the detector app, then you will see the image

Thanks!
Everything is OK!
I am "not vulnerable",
Nice!

Hello! It's there any possibility to make it work on 4.4.2 ( QS-i9300-ROM ) ?

Not this patch. The best you can do is keep track of the latest 4.4.2 firmwares for n7100/n7105 and extract their libs when available to check it.

Just to report, it works on Blekota Note 4 ROM v5.2. Big THX

Hello MaHo_66,
I tried to patch the latest QS - ROM with the security patch for the Galaxy S3 Sprint variant ( KitKat 4.4.2).
I extracted the lib files (stagefright) from the over-the-air update.zip and copied it in the lib folder on my phone, set permissions and run the test with the zimperium app without doing a reboot.
The result was OK. Just one leak left.
Then I want to reboot my phone, unfortunately it stucks at the SAMSUNG logo. The same problem as I would flash your patch.
I haven't found a new firmware (related to build date) for N7100 or N7105, that's the reason why I tried it with update for the Sprint S3.
Do you have any hints to solve this (reboot) problem?
Nexx
Edit: It seems that Sprint also released a stagefright patch for their Note 2 (L900). Maybe that works.

I find it to be very slow. Very laggy when I pull down the notification shade, when I open the app drawer on any launcher, when I open apps, when scrolling, when booting up. I set the performance to max of 1152mhz and min of 0 with smartassv2. Any idea what's going on?

Tried a few times, but to no avail. I tried playing a few games, but they lag. It's only a small game (2048 puzzle game) worked perfectly on stock rom. Also I get a message every time I boot up "Sim card added, please reboot to connect to network" and I reboot and get it again
------------------
Edit: the buttons hardly work either. They stop lighting up most times and lag when they are pressed

I tried BS and i have the same problem as the other users of trend. No Wi-FI turning on. This is a kernel related problem.so i don't think it will be solved soon.A possible fix i think it would be to build the cm kernel again this time using the trend modules not the ace2x and this way i think we will have wifi working on trend too. Do not ask me why i dont do that because i really don't know.Sorry.. I think the only one who can help us is @SeannyM because he ported the cm kernel to our device.I would make the kernel if i would have a tutorial on how to do it.

That's strange. My only suggestion is to completely reinstall the ROM. Are you experiencing performance issues on CyanogenMod 11 as well?

FIRST!
This ROM looks awesome! Gonna take it for a test run and report back to you!
Looks pretty good!! Will test run this and report again later
Thanks! and if you want, take some screenies! I did run into a problem with contacts in which I fixed by clearing the cache of the contacts application! Don't know what happened but I will try to fix it in the later updates!
So, i actually ran into some problem when trying to flash the ROM. I got the "format() expects 5 args, got 3" error (status 7 error). I know this is not your ROM's problem because i also get this error before too when flashing stock ROM. But any chance that you know what is causing this? I previously use CM11.
I edited update-script to match 5 args but it gave me another error "set_perm some changes failed".
However, I am still able to boot by flashing a stock 4.3 ROM and then flash your ROM, and now i am playing with your ROM seems pretty smooth to me, and the contact does force closed when i opened it, and it still force closed even after i clear cache
Do this should work on d2vzw?

I edited update-script to match 5 args but it gave me another error "set_perm some changes failed".
However, I am still able to boot by flashing a stock 4.3 ROM and then flash your ROM, and now i am playing with your ROM seems pretty smooth to me, and the contact does force closed when i opened it, and it still force closed even after i clear cache

Really not a fan of touchwiz but something about this rom might change that. it' seems smooth a fluid and love the S5 theme to it. Probably will be my new daily driver. As for the contacts it did FC on my first few attempts but after going into recovery with the latest TWRP and going into wipe/advanced cleared both catch and davilk cache and the problem seems to be resolved now. :victory:

So glad to hear that! Thank you for the feedback! and I'm going to try fixing that issue with the Contacts. I also love how quick the launcher is. However, now I've found the full deodexed package of the S V Rom, there may be more in the near future, but for now I still think its great

I know its probably a long stretch but do you think the S3 could get that new S5 feature "Download Booster" which pretty much combines your mobile data and wifi to speed up downloads.

It's still coming. The 4.3.1 release I'm waiting on a stable 4.4.. The camera seems to always have problems after the third or so closing.. But yeah Ijust need to resync my repos. It's just hard keeping it completely stock because the SIII actually needs some extra settings
I've been running this rom for the past few hours and I must say I am very impressed. One issue is in regards to the accuweather widget. Its very small and the time is in the wrong position. Every time I attepmt to change it with another wkdget, the rom will boot and hang on the lockscreen, not even allowing me to unlock the phone. Could you look into a proper widget that matches the S5 theme please? Apart from that, I look forward to using this as my daily driver
leet see how it works thanks...

Galaxy S III (US Variant) S V ROM
I am porting this rom, and so far all is great, but I may need some help if anyone is willing.
All works as of right now, if any bugs please post/PM me!
My internet isn't the fastest for uploading, so if anyone else wants to help build/upload that'd be awesome!
So Far working - Everything on the rom.
Toolbox feature is not included in this version. Hopefully later on..
I'm not the best at building ROMS neither, so if anyone wants to take it on from here, Send me a message! because I really want this ROM to evolve!
This ROM IS built from STOCK 4.3 you will at least need a 4.3 Modem.
DOWNLOAD
P.S. The First Screenshot is if you install Yahoo Weather (Which I like), but feel welcome to keep the Accuweather widget that's on there!

I just downloaded this ROM. It's only around 600 MB big -- seems small for stock touchwiz. My installation failed (did the usual wipes -- dalvik, cache, etc). Did I goof somewhere or should I just wait a for a stable build?

[Q&A] [ADDON] DN4 for N7105 v1.0a 31/12

Q&A for [ADDON] DN4 for N7105 v1.0a 31/12
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ADDON] DN4 for N7105 v1.0a 31/12. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Installation Sequence
Hi Dev,
i want to ask something regarding installation sequence, because why i didn't see DN4 N7105 donwload link. just saw DN4 N7100 only. which mean..
1. download DN4 ROM, update and ADDON.
2. flas DN4 ROM
3. flash Update,
4. flash ADDON.
it is correct??

hi all
a long story but i will keep it short
i finally made the DN4 (android 4.4.4), originally created by the eteam for N7100, to work on our Note 2 LTE. this is only an addon patch that allows you to make phone calls, surf the internet, etc as we used to be with our note 2 lte but now a bit different - we can do that with DN4!
i am glad that i can share this to all 7105 users finally. Enjoy!
DISCLAIMER:
THIS IS NOT a standalone port or mod, nor a complete rom but REQUIRES DN4 installation pack from the eteam
this addon only serves as an extra patch for having DN4 works on the note 2 lte model and nothing else
all materials contained in this addon are subject to the sharing policies laid down by the eteam, thus any reproduction or redistribution is prohibited
the inclusion of the kernel, AGNi pureSTOCK N7105, as well as the new mali drivers in this addon is permitted by the original developer psndna88, please consult him before using it for other purposes
due to the sharing policies, i can only provide support for what i have shared. please visit eteam or psndna88's thread for other suppports
i cannot make any other modifications or additional features which may compromise eteam's sharing policies
NOTE:
you need to download DN4 installation files/updates from the eteam's DN4 thread as base files for this addon
only tested on my note 2 lte GT-N7105, i cannot guarantee this works for other note 2 lte variants as well and no support will be provided
only tested with AGNI pure stock kernel v4.3 (included)
since the DN4 installation file contains a 7100 kernel, i included a 7105 kernel which will overwrite the 7100's when installing the addon
an updated google search is included as well since the one comes from DN4 causes FC (could be too old), so that u wont find that repeating FC anymore
since bootloader downgrade is not possible, i have only tested with a 4.4.2 bootloader which i upgraded weeks ago
you are probably free to choose a modem of your choice, however, it is suggested to keep your current modem if in doubt
CWM recovery is strongly recommended, not tested with twrp

Thanks.
is there a way to get it working with i317?
Greetings from Estonia. I have same problem with my N7105GSMH. All ok but no baseband. Also new open patch not working for me. My last hope is this PM Tested with TWRP 2.8.1.0, Philz touch 6.48 and latest CWM. With extracted patch files to update 5b and without. And I use latest AGNI R3. What I must do? No Baseband!
no baseband
Thankyou indeed for the addon. Its great. Boots perfectly but no baseband... i am on tmobile note2 ...
Works great other then the obvious. Throw all the updates in order 1-5b into the main rom zip file then the patch and flashed rom and latest AGNi r3. Only had a few force close of bandservice on boot and gestureservice when incoming call. I have AT&T i317 just didn't change build.prop. Great job @ykkfive been wanting 4.4.4 for awhile.
I also used twrp 2.8
Excused me but this thread and the official thread are mostly full with issue from non n7105 users. The op has stated he only tested on n7105 so maybe different thread is better, I have problem finding success feedbacks from n7105

I also get an unknown baseband after flashing all the required files
Did you flash patch after all the updates and get the black screen?
Sent from AT&T i317 DN4
Cam someone help me out? I tried everything from the original thread but i still dont get baseband. I use TWRP 2.8. I dont think the OP's patch works on me. (Tried both OPEN and device specific zips)
Still no baseband
I've tried everything with no luck

sorry for late reply guys, coz new posts in this q&a section are not shown in the main list, sorry about that
for the black screen problem, either the kernel or the lib files were not patched to the system folder properly, normally happens when u extracted my addon zip and put the files into dn's zip. this made the scripts for patching missing during the installation
for baseband problem, similar to the reason above. but u can try to restore your efs and modem from nandroid backups in the recovery
tell me if there's any problem
also, for all those having baseband or sim problem, please check the file named telephony-common.jar under /system/framework/
it should be:

thank you for everything
i will try.

Samsung S4 Mini LTE i9195 - Stock ROM with Stagefright Security Fix

Just upgraded to the latest Stock ROM for Europe I9195XXUCOH2:
samsung-firmware.org/model/GT-I9195/
samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9195
sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9195
When running Stagefright Detector it only shows the following red vulnerability:
CVE 2015 6602 - Requires clicking a web-link, that opens video in the web-browser.
P.S. Had to flash twice as the baseband didn't upgrade the first time, and caused WIFI not to work (Would not turn on).
P.P.S. Used the O2-UK ROM and it changes the bootup-screen and also replaces the Google App Store with its own. Had to manually install Google App Store.
Gives me hope that there will be a fix later for stage fright v2. Though this release was 1 and half months after it was compiled so.... Also the fact O2 has released this but Samsung has yet to release the updated unbranded software is a bit of bull. Phone manufacturers and Google need to get their ass in gear..
Just updated to I9195XXUCOI5 (Spanish), and now Stagefright Detector shows all tests as green.
Also the bootup-screen is back to normal, along with the Google App Store.
Did you (have to) factory reset after flashing?

I flashed on top of my existing 4.4.2. Stock ROM, and just had to re-root.
But I guess it would be a good idea to make a backup of text-messages and other stuff.
Hi. My phone was rooted and when i checked it through stagefright except two all were red. And after i saw your comment., i flashed my phone but with original stock rom. and did reset and everything. Still same options are red.

Guess I have a special phone, or maybe something went wrong when flashing. Just re-verified that I have the latest version of stagefright detector from Google App Store, and all tests are green.

Going to try this tonight when I get home. Currently running the UK O2 firmware, but all but one of the patches shows green. Fingers crossed this new Spanish ROM will be green across the board.
This has really p!&&ed me off! Android phone manufacturers are sooo slow to update their devices. I can understand that some updates like new looks are over looked for older devices, but when it comes to security THEY have a duty to keep their products secure! There needs to be a new system for security updates. This stage fright bug is HUGE in my opinion. Phone manufacturers really don't give a sh!t about their customers, its all about the money. I never had these worries on my Nokia 3310...
I'm so concerned that I'm seriously thinking about getting an iPhone, much better software ecosystem. I just hate IOS compared. It's that or be forced to buy an expensive galaxy S6 or maybe a Moto G 2015 which I've heard has software updates comparable to the Google Nexus phones, which I personally think are a bag of crap...
Samsung being such a BIG concern in the smart phone world are just crap for software support.
I know there are custom ROMs that offer regular updates and the latest patches, but for me NONE of these are stable on my 5 month old device to the point where they can't be run as daily drivers... That and you lose any warranty you had, which is 2 years for Samsung....
Now I'm stuck with laggy stock OS, and I'm regretting getting this phone on contract.
If people were more aware of how insecure there phones really are I think they might not so easily choose android or at least the hundred odd older devices still available for purchase.
I'm so angry its funny... I'm one click away from dumping Samsung for the foreseeable future...

Thanks for this info, did not see that before.
From the information at Samsung Firmwares Database, the last Spanish ROM is not for LTE? or ist it also fine for LTR?

I am hoping for further firmware updates. Everything is red for me except two, as mentioned by someone else. I updated to the latest firmware from May on Three. I thought it was confirmed we were going to get version 5 of Android on the S4 mini... still waiting. I had 4.4.2 before from my last update and then this new update is ALSO 4.4.2...... What got updated? Just patches on things or something? No upgrade of the OS?

Very certain that S4 Mini will not get Android ver. 5.
This is my device status:
- Android Version: 4.4.2
- Kernel Version: 3.4.0-5878679 (23 Sep 2015)
- Build Number: KOT49H.I9195XXUCOI5
Think it is only security fixes, and system-app updates.

Xposed is not (yet) compatible with Android SDK version 19 or your processor architecture (armeabi-v7a)

EDIT: OK I tired this stock rom with xposed and like yourself it doesn't want to install the framework.. The patch from Lombartz thread doesn't work with stock roms. It's got to do with sine new security patch. I'm thinking maybe an older version of the 2 files affected might work. Going to try later. That or ask Lombartz what he did to get it working.
Maybe try the fix for xposed from Lombartz in his cm11 rom and kernel thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/sh...ht v2)(ECOACTIVE & ECOPLUG)(OC/UV)(20151116) Might work on stock rom too.
I have installed the latest Stock-ROM I9195XXUCPA1, and it works good.
I have tested with AndroidVTS v.13 and it shows that CVE-2015-6616 remains red (All other tests are green).

Mate , the worst situation is that you mess up all the partitions which you can fix using the stock pit files ( for which I made a thread ... here ) ... so don't get frightened and try the recover and the ROM ( even in the recovery , you can't install the ROM because the model number differs ... ) also tell me about the nand structure and the CPU and also the Network support ... If everything is the same (esp the CPU and Nand Structure ) it's alright to give it a try but, if not , It's a waste of time to play this ... so , please provide a bit more detail ...

Yes, I can install TWRP and flash custom p601 roms (5.0.1) without a problem. When I flash a 5.1.1 custom rom, it did not. I beleive it is because of the new boot.img of 5.1.1 roms.

It'is identical to SM-P601 variant of note 10.1^2014, Just the RIL part is modified for not to support voice calls, It only use sim to connect network. When I flash p601 roms, I am able to make voice calls. I also make thread about it here. Partitioning is differs from p601 too. It's not the same but similar. One of my friends overwrite the pit with p601 stock roms and bricked the device before. I can boot with cm12 and cm13 roms for p601. But I want to use 5.1.1 stock or stock based roms.

You know why ? ( no that's not " Because sky is high !!! " ) the reason is that you have the KK Bootloader which causes the problem ... as you know , first you need to flash a P601 firmware to get the new bootloader ( Extremely Important Note !!!! ... Do not even think of ( ) ticking the " Update bootloader " in the Odin which makes you blame your self later ... !!!! the lollipop boot loader is installed by it self ... just do nothing about it ...) try if it get's installed that way ... also take a look at this ... maybe you find it useful ( to convert the P602 to P601 !!! ) Note that I haven't tried it on Lollipop CM or some other ROMs so make a backup first !!! ... If you couldn't install the Odin way , there are other apps and if they failed , then find the Multi-file version of P600 / P601 Lollipop ROM to flash the bootloader part directly ... Good luck :good:
hey dude have you ever found something about 5.1.1 bootloader for p602? I need that
I have restored my device which is a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 edition 2014 by using the settings>restore method. However, the screen is not going on, staying constant as i showed with photo below. I have opened the case of tablet, i have extracted the battery, and connected it again. No way, it does not continue, stays as constant like the photo. Is there anyone who can provide a solution?
Best

@agesilaus have tried flashing original Samsung firmware with Odin?
Hello All, much worse happened to me: after 8 years of resistance I figured 4.2 is way too old so went for the stock update on the device. It was downloading for too long, stopped 3 times during the process. I guess it is when it got damaged as the above nice samsung logo got stuck after reboot. When I tried to boot to recovery it does the flashing again (definition of insane - doing the same expect different result) and that's all hangs in the air again. (Exactly as it is shown above on the picture - waited until the tabled discharged.)
I could boot to download but the latest odin doesn't like the stock image (hoping it is that, if anyone has a safe copy a share would be appreciated).
One more info the machine is badly overheating, ADB connects, but says device is not authorised and I can't remember if I had any PC enabled for the device would be still alive...
Many thanks for any hints.
@xantbubus for that old firmware I'd take Odin 3.09.
Using the multiple file firmware is safer.
You don't say which device exactly.
Which region?

Hello, thank you so much, apologies, it is sm-p602, the region is Turkey (althugh I live in Hungary but it was bought there).
Do you have a link for split firmware? They say even sm-p601 is working perfectly only the restriction on the call is lifted...
@xantbubus if sammobile, samfrew or others don't let you have them, use SamFirm_Reborn_0.3.6.3 which will definitely give you multiple files (if settings are correct ).

Thanks, google was not really my friend on this. Btw, I resolved the issue. Unfortunately I needed to clean the data partition but after that it worked. I guess the 3.09 odin also played part as earlier it was trying to reflash instead of going to recovery so thank you all!
