N5X slows down and falsely registers long presses as uptime increases - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all!
My N5X is running stock, completely unaltered (not unlocked, not rooted, no custom recovery, etc.).
The longer it goes without rebooting, the slower it gets.
Eventually, it starts registering long-presses when I only push very quickly on the screen, and this comes with a lag of the UI in general.
I also noticed audio would start skipping after a while.
1. Am I the only one noticing this?
2. Do any of you have an idea of what could be causing this? Sounds like a memory leak, either from an app or the system, but I could be wrong.
3. How would you go about troubleshooting this?
Thanks!

We have multiple posts discussing about lags:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/nexus-5x-lag-t3235343
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/snapchat-lag-5x-t3250747
So you are not alone.

I saw things about Snapchat and anything involving a camera in general.
But haven't seen anyone complain of false long-presses yet =(

I've had mine running 2 weeks straight before the OTA, and was surprised (and impressed) that I never had any random reboots or slow down.
Stock, with fairly basic apps - stock google apps and a couple games.

I'm completely with you on this one. Lag central, slow downs, I'm at a reboot every 2-3 days now before it becomes unusable to take pictures.

[Q] New Lag Problem

I've been using my Note for a long time without any of the issues I have read about. Until now. This past week there were several updates to applications, including one that allows apps to send things to OneNote, which I had been waiting on for a while.
Then I was using Mazec3 inside NoteAnytime and while I was writing, things just froze up momentarily and my handwriting was all screwed up. I suspected the app, so I switched back to the Samsung pen input, but I had the same issue.
A device reset seemed to fix it mostly, but I have noticed that while playing CandyCrush, I get a momentary freeze.
The original hesitation seemed to be when the device was converting the handwriting to text (or to suggested words) and adding the CandyCrush issue in seems to suggest a bogged down processor.
Has anyone else had this issue and/or know how to fix it?
Thanks,
PNCguy
Mine is doing the same thing. My google keyboard keeps crashing. I uninstalled it and it's been performing a lot better.
Same here. Especially noticeable during video playback. I watch videos all the time on my note and this just started the other day. Thought it had something to do with my SD card, so I put the file on internal memory. Same issues, any ideas?

Stuttering and freezing of some apps. Help!

I just got the Nexus 5X some 2-3 weeks ago. First week or two was smooth sailing after setting up the phone as a brand new phone in the initial setup process. I did not restore a backup from a previous phone.
Since then, I've had occasional freezing of apps like the homescreen freezes momentarily and becomes black and unresponsive only to be back to normal shortly thereafter. Likewise I had freezes with Google Music and Chrome. Today however has been my worst attack of freezing. I am reading some articles on Chrome and the bloody thing freezes like crazy. Scrolling is unresponsive and very rough, the interface becomes unresponsive. Home/Back/Recents buttons become unresponsive. I am not sure if the websites are at fault, they are salon.com and huffingtonpost.com that I am reading. And this issue seems very pronounced and doesn't go away in a short while like before. I still have the problem after like 10-15 minutes. Looks like other apps like Facebook are mostly okay, although I see a occasional slow down there.
I note that I am charging my phone while doing this browsing and I am wondering if the heating up of the phone due to charging is causing issues. Is this what people refer to as lag on this phone? Is there a solution?
EDIT: I used an app called "CPU temp" and saw the temperature to be around 39-40C. Also, I read elsewhere on XDA that the CPU is throttled at around 37C in the default kernel. So could this be why I saw all that lag? Now I don't seem to have any issues with Chrome anymore and I can navigate any page including on Salon.com fairly well although Salon is still a bit laggy on not just this but other phones I have, so their website may also have some issues.

G4 stuttering and running hot

I'm not sure if anyone has experienced their G4 running hot and stuttering a lot. Mine was yesterday and I couldn't figure out why. It would just freeze for like five seconds about every 15-20 seconds. Even my music that I was listening to and had downloaded would skip with the screen off.
I'm on stock MM and I have installed apps from third parties but nothing too crazy. I tried to figure out and pinpoint maybe an app that I had downloaded that was causing it.
I finally decided to factory reset it. I have to tell you that after setting my phone back up, it runs better than it ever has. Apps open super quick. I also decided to wipe both internal and external memory just to be on the safe side.
Again, I don't know what was causing it, but I'm definitely going to be more conservative and cautious installing any third party apps.

You should downgrade to LL and root your phone. Then you can tweak it to run buttery smooth and increase your battery life too.

Random Freezing and Crashing

Hey guys, i love my pixel 3 XL its been great but it has been randomly freezing and locking up, somtimes requiring a restart.
Other time i get the system UI crashed message and then i close it and it works again. Sometimes Chrome or the camera app locks up and crashes too.
Anybody experiencing this? Any ideas on a fix, maybe the next December OTA will fix it hopefully.
Thanks

Have you tried a factory reset?

I'm getting pretty fed up of factory resetting my phone, the phone started saying it's corrupt so I ended up reflashing it and that issue is now gone, but this freezing issue happens every now and then. You really think a factory reset is worth trying? Or could have something of gone wrong with the reflash?

I absolutely would try a factory reset if things are acting strange for no apparent reason.

If you flashed the factory image it's either a hardware or app issue. Have you tried using the phone for awhile with a minimum of apps? I'd give that a try I don't think a factory reset will do anything if you've already flashed the factory image.

try the flash-all.bat then when its complete go to stock recovery and format /data
are you using substratum?
Pixel 3 XL crashing
I have had the same problem. My system UI crashes since new, along with other apps and the phone becomes non-responsive. I thought it was just a new phone glitch that would be fixed with an update, no such luck... I need to do a hard reboot by holding the power button until it reboots. I bought a Pixel 2 XL in August and never had any problems like this. I finally contacted Google about the problems and they RMA'd it. I never root my phones before making sure they work correctly, so this one is and has been stock, unrooted.
My wife and I have the 64GB models in Black (mine), White (hers). She's on her 3rd replacement phone for what seems to be a similar issue.
Symptoms:
When using the fingerprint reader to unlock the phone, it may not unlock for 10+ tries.
The phone's battery drains quickly, within a couple hours of barely any use, her phone might be down to 60-70%
System_UI crashes
Some apps don't seem to load quickly (Like going into messages, you see the app container, and a new chat button, but no messages load for a minute). Or she's had a straight up black screen, and the app wouldn't load.
Takes minutes to call or hang up a call and often takes rebooting to close out the phone app.
It almost seems like something is running in the background that is utilizing the CPU and causing the lag/app/battery issues.
Troubleshooting:
Factory Reset
Wiping Dalvik Cache
Replacing the phone twice through Verizon. The first replacement had the same issues immediately. The 2nd phone showed the same issues immediately, and then went away for 3 weeks since the Dec. 5th Security update, but in the past few days has returned.
Booted in Safe Mode (everything seems to be working fine however extremely limited).
We've also checked the processes and no apps seem to be running that would make any sort of impact.
Running out of ideas

Since the December update, the freezing issues I was having have been significantly reduced, but it still freezes sometimes... I am hoping the January update coming in the next week will smooth out any remaining bugs.
Any of you using a different launcher?
I had this freezing and non-responsive issue. The google rep, replaced it, he determined it is some kind of hardware issue. My replacement didn't have this issue at all (November update). However, the lag/stuttering still persists though. I had replaced quiet a few pixel 3 XL, and i am just getting tired of it. For a $1K phone, we shouldn't get mediocre quality of phone.
So my wife had been removing applications in small groups to try to narrow it down. It seemed for a week or so that she was in the clear and everything was working. Then all of a sudden she got the January update and her phone is still having issues.
Slow responding finger print reader.
System UI crashes
Unable to answer phone calls despite numerous attempts.
It still seems like there is something that is running in the background that is just using the processing power.

Get gsam from the app store, if you don't have it. After awhile see what apps are using battery, app sucker in the app. Gsam is a battery monitor.

Sadly, gsam and accubattery don't show anything out of the norm app wise.

Phone stuttering and lagging more each day

Anyone also experiencing same issues? After the PIE update months ago, everything began going downwards. Scrolling sometimes getting laggy or sticky (like pulling a gum from the ground), stuttering on some apps like chrome etc. Should i go back to Oreo? For me personally seems like this whole PIE thing was just a half-assed rebranded thing for OP5/5T originally meant to be devices like OP6/6T they just released half-assed update to satisfy people asking for pie update.

You're not alone.
I noticed this straight away when I "upgraded" to pie. Very noticeable when scrolling. If you leave the phone idle for a couple seconds (around more than 20-30 seconds), then scroll again, there's a very noticeable lag.
Another user on reddit managed to capture the issue
Unfortunately there's no fix. I wiped the cache and then factory reset. Still had the issue.
I ended up just going back to Oreo, which I recommend you do if you want smooth performance again.

Same problem here, no one want to help us. Like problem did not exist
I started having this problem since going to Pie, but the phone only stutters randomly about once or twice a day for me. A temporary solution for my phone is that whenever it lags, I press the power button to lock the phone. After unlocking, the stutters go away. Let me know if it works for you.
