Xperia Z1: Stuck In Bootloop After Trying To Flash ROM In TWRP - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Bootloop Sony logo
oook, this was my first time that i tried to flash a rom with twro ... aaaand i messed all up.
i rooted my phone 2 days ago with kingroot then i used the [XZDualRecovery] to get twrp on my phone.
then i made a backup and wiped cache, dalvik cache, system and data ... then flashed a cyanogen mod
the only problem is that flashing cm put my phone on a bootloop on sony logo (not led neither vibration) and i can't enter the recovery neither flashmode.
sorry for the bad english

You can use fastboot on PC, if adb installed, to flash kernel and recovery IMG, then boot into recovery, and flash new ROM or restore backup. I have Z1c, so don't have any files for you, but easy to find in forums.

Download a ROM file, (try a prf if no luck with CM), copy it onto sdcard, put sdcard in phone, download a CM boot.img to computer, (get it from a ROM zip file), and a twrp recovery.img. fastboot the 2 imgs, boot recovery, and flash ROM. Do you know why Roms aren't working? Are you using right files for your phone?

before i do something stupid again ..
i have to follow this step?
1) Download a ROM
2) Put it in the microSD
3) Download latest nightly form the official page of xperia z1c on cyanogenmod.org (can't link the page)
4) exctract the boot.img from the zip
5) download a twrp recovery.img
6) put them in the fastboot folder
7) open a cmd in that folder
8) fastboot boot [cm_boot filename].img
9) fastboot recovery [twrp_recovery filename].img
then reboot in twrp and flash from there?

That's right, but I think I see where your problem might be, (unless it's just a typo). Your commands should be: for boot, 'fastboot flash boot (name of file).img; and for recovery, 'fastboot flash recovery (name of file).img.
Try again with that. There's some good files in this thread - a http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/general/root-stock-5-1-ub-t3203247
(Sorry, for some reason I thought you had a Z1. I would have linked it sooner).

I prefer to start from scratch, but I have tried some custom stock- based Roms. Of those, I would recommend anything by Munjeni, (he has a few KK and one LP ROM in the Dev forum), or DstrikerZ1. CM based Roms are great for customization and smoothness, but tend to be worse on battery, and very iffy with Xposed.

Correct, flash the boot.img with the command fastboot flash boot boot.img
then fastboot erase cache
then boot to recovery and install the rom.zip via recovery.
Thanks so it really is that simple or am I missing something seen lots having problems with boot loops etc is there anything else I need to be aware of
As far as I can see the order and actions I need to do bearing in mind my HTC is already bootloader unlocked and rooted
1Download the ROM copy to phone
2 Extract Boot.IMG from the ROM
3 Boot my phone into boot loader
4 Connect to PC and in fastboot (phone shows fastbootusb) fast boot flash boot boot.img
5 Still in fastboot fastboot erase cache
5 Boot into recovery (connected to PC or not?) Full wipe then install the ROM followed by installing the updates through recovery
Thanks again

2.I placed the ziped "FXP221-cm-10-20130524-UNOFFICIAL-nozomi" and "gapps-jb-20121011-signed" files on the sd card
3. flashed boot.img using fast boot
4. Installed the rom and then the gaps
5. reboot
But when i reboot i'm stuck in the boot loop.
I've now tried this 3 times but always get the boot loop. What can i do to avoid that?
Just format system & then flash rom.Everything will be fine

Don't know why, but it doesn't work for me.
Got a XPeria Go with formerly CM9 on it, updated to 4.1.2 and follow this guide: http://go.apeboys.org/index-de.html wich with CM9 worked perfectly. But, now with CM10 i got everytime a Bootloop and not able to fix it.
i used also your guide for flashing the boot.img but it even doesn't work
i tried it several times, and searched for reasons and another guids and tipps, but nothing worked, and since my x10 mini got a sim-lock wich i can't fix, im a little afraid about exotic tipps.
i got an open Bootloader and everything should be ready to do this....
so my question is: How can i fix that?
thanks for help and sry for my bad english.

I don't know what's the problem here. The last thing that would cause this would be the fact that I changed the .zip's name (I did that).

[Q] Will installing new ROM wipe X-Parts CWM?

Hi, question: I failed time and again to get CWM working, but finally got it to work using x-parts. However, x-parts is keen to point out that it is not a fully fledged recovery and that "if you wipe the system partition for any reason, it will be gone!".
Does this not mean that if I boot into recovery and install a new ROM (Going for the FXP CM10 one, if it matters), then when I wipe the phone beforehand I'll also wipe my CWM install, thus completely bricking the device? Would appreciate any thoughts, thanks

Yes, if you wipe the system partition there will be no more CWM. For CM10, you need to flash a custom kernel for it to work. This custom kernel will usually come with a CWM recovery so it will not be wiped when you flash a new ROM.

Is your bootloader unlocked?
And yes you will have to flash GB ftf using flashtool
Sent from my LT18i
Yeah, I unlocked the bootloader and rooted it ages ago, but have since neglected actually updating the ROM, decided I can't live in a GB world anymore though.
So, as I understand it, process would be flash a new GB kernel to get CWM > Wipe Everything > Install the relevant ROM and GApps > Done? Does this ROM installation include the update to JB kernel then? Thanks

If I am not mistaken the kernel boot img should be inside the ROM zip. Check the ROM zip. Just flash the boot img using fastboot, boot into CWM recovery and flash ROM & gapps.

Ah, ok, well this brings me full circle. Because I'm trying to follow the boot instructions to do so, but:
fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
doesn't work. I've taken the boot.img out of the ROM, and put it in the platform-tools folder. But whenever I try this line, it says it can't boot it, and quotes "no error" (no longer at home so can't quote the exact error, but it's something like that). I assumed the problem was me lacking CWM, hence was trying to install that first. Fastboot devices DOES show the device, and both fastboot and adb commands work in a terminal, but I just can't get it to boot into the ROM recovery for Cyanogenmod. Driving my crazy! Thanks

Ok, so finally got home to try this, still throwing this out: "error: cannot load 'boot.img': No error"
I've got the right boot.img in my platform-fools folder, the relevant CM build on my SD Root along with GApps. Drivers are definitely installed correctly as fastboot devices shows the device, as do adb command when it's on - anyone got any suggestions? Would be immensely grateful if this confounded problem could be solved. Thanks

I just tried that and I get the same error. The fastboot verify shows my phone is connected.
For some reason I don't think its fully unlocking my bootloader.
It will start to flash but at the end it says failed https://gyazo.com/2025260de02c9ffa6c3a5b9f1663c5a2
I then can proceed to install the splash screen to turn it back to black and exit. When I try to boot in bootloader and goto recovery I then get https://www.google.ca/search?q=reco...hWFWh4KHW0rDPAQ_AUIBygC#imgrc=P6Av23J5FPR39M:
Not too sure what's going on here , relating to your initial problem maybe ?
Drivers installed correctly etc..
This tool just works for me..
You got "minimal adb and fastboot" installed before this tool and working fine ???
Can u power off from bootloader ...Then use hard buttons to get to recovery ?
Just a thought.
Flash stock mm recovery back first if not got and try again.

Good news that
Be done with it then by flashing stock recovery then sideload another fresh copy of firmware.
Then , use the modder

I'm not sure what you mean. How do I flash stock recovery. And why would I have to reflash stock mm?
To start from fresh
Just in case you damaged any sectors flashing earlier what caused the initial problem you posted.
You need to fastboot flash stock recovery from boot loader screen . Boot into stock recovery then select 'update over adb'
Then sideload from PC which sends firmware to phone.
Then you will be back to clean factory settings.
Fastboot commands is >
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Putting stock recovery in adb/fastboot folder first and renaming it to 'recovery'
adb commands in stock recovery is >
adb sideload MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip
Renaming , stock ASUS firmware .134 to MOFD_SDUPDATE
and putting it in adb/ fastboot folder first.
Refresh this page later I will add some more info as I am stuck for time at the min ...
Or someone might come along and help further ?

Thx Ill have to give it a try when i have some time. So I cant flash twrp with the current stock MM. I should probably wait for the cm14 release to go through all that then.
Adb and fastboot knowledge is usually required when unlocking bootloader and flashing recoveries
Enjoy

are you Trying 3.5.2???
Having a similar issue. I'm on 3.5.2 unlocked bootloader, no root, stock recovery. Everytime I try to flash TWRP, it appears to succeed, but will never boot to TWRP. Boots fastboot and OOS just fine, but no recovery available. I then tried to flash stock recovery, but same issue appears. I then was able to use skipsoft toolkit to get stock recovery, but only by relocking then unlocking the bootloader. Everytime I tried to simply flash a recovery it appears to succeed, but will not boot to recovery. So skipsoft was able to fix the no recovery problem, but I am still unable to flash TWRP

Here is the issue. 3.5.2 has a different firmware than previous OOS versions. You will need a specific 3.5.2 modified TWRP. The link is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3875375&d=1473889816
You can see that this is discussed on the oneplus forums here: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...ity-update-with-working-twrp-recovery.465353/
I ran into this same problem myself, and realized that this was the issue. You should be very careful because it could cause you some grief. Whatever you do don't lock your bootloader if you end up with a nonfunctional and non functional recovery.
I have the same issue i can flash all the recovery images but non of them worked i tried 1000 different methods and nothing works.. Getting a bit desperate is someone please able to help me got my new phone already broke it kinda..

Follow this guide and everything will be ok.
I know u fixed the problem but i think this is a general guide to fix your phone if you have this type of issue after flashing OOS 3.5.6 based roms!
i had the same issue yesterday with freedom os 1.7 (based on OOS 3.5.6) and OOS 3.5.6, here is how i fixed my phone:
- download http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3875375&d=1473889816
-unzip it and put it on the desktop
-put your phone in fastboot (make sure you have unloked bootloader and installed all the drivers and adb on your pc)
-press shift and right mouse click on the desktop and hit open a new prompt window here
-write "fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-19-oneplus3.img" and press enter, your phone should reboot in recovery (keep the prompt open)
-wipe dalvik/system/data/cache/internal storage go back and do format data
-reboot in bootloader(fastboot)
-write in the prompt "fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-19-oneplus3.img"
-unplug your phone and turn it off switching in fastboot with the volume buttons
-when it's powered off press power+volume down and chose recovery
-now you should boot and flash any rom in recovery (i suggest you to not try to flash any OOS 3.5.6 based roms)
i went back to OOS 3.2.6 but any other custom rom lshould be fine!
