Is there a way to get the HU to recognize a MTP connection? - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

I have an android cell phone connected by USB to my HU. The phone shows that it is connected as an MTP device but there is no recognition of any kind by the HU. Am I doing something wrong or is this just beyond the capabilities of the unit?

[Q] cant connect to computer

my Evo wont connect to CPU any more ive tried reading all the other threads but still not working
I just want to flesh out some of the details here.
Is the phone charging when you plug it into the computer?
Is there any activity from your PC or the phone when you select "Disk Drive" from the USB menu? (Like maybe a USB error/not connected sound in Windows).
Are you able to access or see it through ADB using the SDK?
Does it work on any other computers?
Have you done anything recently? Did it just happen today?
usb connection not working
I'm having the same problem--my original usb cable was damaged, and I just bought a new (generic) one. Does the EVO require a special type of cable rather than just a standard micro usb?
Here's the details:
USB Debugging is enabled.
Phone is set to ask for connection type (default is disk drive).
Phone charges when plugged into the PC but the computer doesn't recognize it.
In the notification bar, there is the usb debugging icon, but not the other one that usually says charge only/disk drive, etc.
ADB doesn't see the phone.
So far I haven't been able to get to another computer to see if it does the same thing. I tried disabling usb debugging, no effect.
update
Ok, yesterday I got my phone replaced because the screen was damaged. I also got a new usb cable; this one specifically for the EVO. Same thing. I plug it into the computer, and it charges, but the PC doesn't recognize it, and the phone just seems to think it's plugged into an AC adapter. The phone is set to ask what to do whenever I connect it to a PC. Since this is a brand new phone and cable, I would think this would have to be a computer issue, but the PC doesn't seem to recognize that anything has even been connected.
Update: solved--it was the usb port. For some reason the usb ports on my pc case stopped working; plugged into one of the back panel ports and it works fine.
Any microsd cable will work, I'm using my palm pre's now, my htc cable went out a month ago.
I
Chevk device manager whole you are plugging your phone in. just in case there is some bad driver issue, it should show there.

[Q] Connecting my G3 to car's USB port

Hello,
I'm looking for a workaround regarding connecting my Verizon LG G3 to my car's audio system. Much to my dismay, my car's bluetooth system only supports calling, not audio streaming. I do not have an 3.5mm jackport, so I am limited to a usb port. Unfortunately, the head unit is not compatible with MTP.
I have read in forums for other phones that certain apps can be used to mount the sd card in such a way that it will appear as a mass storage device. Can anyone point in the direction of some resources that might show me how to enable such functionality on my g3? If nothing like that exists, does anyone have another solution that would allow me to connect my g3 to the car's audio system through the USB port?
Thanks in advance for the advice.
What is the purpose of mounting the sdcard into your car stereo system?
If it's to read music files from your sdcard, you'd better get a USB stick.
i understand you ts.
my car's hu supports bluetooth audio streaming, so no problem for me when it comes to music.
i was wanting to connnect my phone as mass storage so that my friends can watch movies via hu.
don't want the hassle of removing microsd card on phone and inserting it on microsd slot on car's hu unit nor do i have any flash drives around.
i downloaded i think the top 5 enable mass storage apps on play store, connected phone via usb cable to car's hu unit usb slot, none of the apps worked.
the other work around i was able to do was use my old galaxy pro phone as it can be connected as mass storage on my car's hu. so the movies go to this phone's microsd card.
Try going in to Bluetooth settings and hit the 3 dot menu. Turn on audio channel I think it's called. My phone wouldn't play music either but after enabling that I had the option for both call audio and music.

USB Connection problem

Hello!
I really hope someone can help me out on this.
I have just bought a Lenovo P2a42 and everything works fine, except that I cannot connect it to my computer via USB cable.
I tried different known working cables on different known working machines (win 7 & 10) with no success.
It looks like the phone stuck at "charge only" USB mode, the PC does not even react when phone is connected, only on the phone I can see it is charging.
So it is not a driver issue, as it looks like the PC does not even know about a phone is connected.
I tried to change USB Connection mode under Developer options, and nothing happened. However, it was strange, that if I change the USB mode from "Charge only" to MTP, after selection made, the text label under this option in the Developer options remained "charge only", and only if I go back and forth one level (to settings menu and then back to developers menu) it shows the MTP setting I have set earlier.
It is weird, but for me it looks like as the phone stuck at charge only mode, and I cannot switch between USB connection modes.
There is no notification at all about USB if I connect the cable.
I have made a factory reset on the phone, and nothing changed.
My P2 is running android 7.0.
Do you guys have any idea? I'm really desperate on this.
Thanks in advance for any tip!

I seem to have this problem also because of the above i am unable to get adb working properly although drivers are setup.
I fixed it now by using the PDAnet program which found and installed some android drivers after which the phone is recognised properly as Lenovo p2 and is picked up in adb as attached device.

I think it's because you must install to your PC mtp drivers.
Thanks for your answer, but unfortunately, no. As I mentioned, there is no communication between phone and PC.
With a missing driver, you can see your unknown USB device in device manager.
BTW, since then I have returned the phone to seller, and they confirmed, that the USB port of the phone is faulty (data pin connection to phone motherboard is faulty)
They are now working on the repair and will be done by tomorrow.

Finally I contacted seller and send it back for repair.
They confirmed that one leg of the USB motherboard connector was detached from the board.
They replaced the connector, and now it's just working as it should.
Have a nice day!

Can't use USB in car

I had the Nexus 6P (with Android 7) and plugging it into the USB worked with my 2011 Camaro (it is not Android Auto, the Head-unit basically will see the phone as a USB Storage device, mount it, index the files, and I could then use my car's controls to search, change tracks, etc).
I broke my phone and turn it in on warranty, and end up getting the Pixel XL as replacement, and upgrade it to Android 8.
Now when I plug it into my car, I get a "No supported media found" message on my car's display. I have tried with and without USB Debugging, going into the the developer options and changing the "Select USB Configuration" to MTP, Audio Source and still the same. I would also have this issue with Samsung phones, and could never get them to work.
I am not sure if this is an issue with Pixel's, or with the Android 8 update, since my Nexus 6P with Android 7 worked fine
you need to use the otg adapter that came with it
So I have to get a standard USB-USB cable to connect the adapter to my car?
I thought this adapter added functionality, so my phone can mount drives, not the other way around? Doesn't make since that something that has worked so well on the past 3 phones (except for Samsung for whatever reason) now no longer works without another piece of hardware. Not what I would call progress
So I ordered another cable and am using my OTG adapter, and it still does not work.

Connecting to PC - not recognised on Win10

Had my A70 since July time, no issues so far, except for now. First time I needed to connect to my PC, Win 10 comes up with the 'WIndows didn't recognise the device' error. Have tried 2 different USB cables thinking it might be that but no different. Then I plugged my partners identical phone into the PC and it recognised it straight away so am assuming that there's no issue with the PC itself in terms of drivers etc. USB configuration/connections settings on both phones are identical, i. e. 'Transferrring files'. Tried Developer options with USB debugging on, I get connection sounds but eventually the error message on the PC. Anyone had similar or any ideas what the issue with my phone might be because i'm stumped?
OK, sussed it. With phone connected to PC I turned it OFF. Then turned it on again still connected. PC recognised something as an ADB device and said I needed to restart the PC, which I did. On restart, Device manager showed a Samsung Mobile USB Composite device connected but still didn't show in Windows Explorer. I disconnected the phone from PC and then plugged it back in again, this time I got a message on the phone asking me if I wanted to allow connections, I pressed 'Allow' and there it was.
Didn't have to do this with my partners phone so have no idea why mine should be any different!
