International Z5 for T-Mobile - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Purchased an unlocked Z5, version E6653. On bootup, it has TIM splash (telecom Italia mobile) and all the TIM apps. I've deleted all the apps and tried to reset the phone but the TIM splash remains.
Inserted T-Mobile SIM and was only able to get 3G. 4G wasn't found or needed to be tried again later.
How can I reset the phone so there is no TIM related splashes or software? Root and ROM flash or is there something else I could do. I assumed my new unlocked phone would be bloatware free and I could just pop on the SIM and go.
Tried different APNs but that didn't help.
E6653 had support for bands 2, 4 and 12 so I'm unsure why I can't get this on the Sony Xperia Z5 I bought for T-Mobile.
Any advice?

You could flash any unbranded firmware. You don't need root to flash it.
Firmware could be downloaded by Xperifirm and flashed by FlashTool.
Flashtool topic is in Sony cross-device sub-forum.

Will I lose any camera functionality by doing so?

No, camera will remain the same. Just choose appropriate model and unbranded firmware with your area (country, language) customization.

What about Bravia engine 2?
And if so, can I get it back?

Also, are windows 7 and Windows 10 both supported in this process, not just 8/8.1?

All functions in unbranded firmware will remain the same.
All Windows versions is supported, but last versions require some tricks with driver install.
Why you don't ask your questions in Xperia Z5 forums? In this for example http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/help

Root for 14.3.A.0.757?
Hi,
Am quite new to the sony xperia device and if this is the wrong place to post this question, kindly ignore..
I have a Sony Xperia z1 Compact (D5503) device running 14.3.A.0.757 (latest sony update using PC Companion). This device has not been unlocked and has not been rooted at all.
My question - is there any way to root this phone at the current level i.e. 14.3.A.0.757 (with or without downgrading) without unlocking the bootloader?
Thanks for any support in advance.

If your BL is locked then you'll need to downgrade using the guide in the general section.

[Q] Downloading older Firmware with Xperifirm

Hi,
I would like to go back to KK on my Z1C. I don't have the latest KK .157 Firmware anywhere. I now saw that Xperifirm does not offer to download that Version anymore for my customization. I usually use the generic DE or UK files. Is there a way to get to those old firmware files through Xperifirm or by some other way?
I could not find a generic .157 DE or UK file. I could use that as well.
Kind regards
Philipp
I wanna know this too.
Xperifirm use official Sony servers to download firmwares. But Sony remove old firmwares from its servers.
But, some old firmwares with a different customization (region/country/operator) could be downloaded with Xperifirm, just sort a list of firmwares by a version.

You are wrong, look to the attached screenshot. You should select D5503 phone model, after that press "Check all" button and then XperiFirm finish to update firmwares list you should sort the list by "Latest Release" field and you will see older firmware. For example, 14.4.A.0.157 is the Android 4.4.4 based firmware.

Yes and no. I agree you can see some 14.4.A.0157 but not for all regions, only for some strange one, which did not release update yet. If you want to have for your own region, like in my case eastern Europe I can only download the latest one
So ...?

The only way to download old firmware I found on sony site xperiafirmware.com/8-firmware/46-sony-xperia-z1-compact-d5503
you can find also diffrrent models as well there
good luck
@oilman67, of course you can download old formwares from different sites, but my answer was about possibility of downloading of old firmwares from official Sony servers with XperiFirm tool.
And as I say later

You could use firmwares for different countries/operators in your country without any problem, just choose your native language. For example, now I use in Russia phone from Japan with a firmware customized for Japan operator NTT DoCoMo.
On xperiablog[dot]net[slash]forum[slash]resources[slash]categories[slash]xperia-z5-compact.95[slash]
you can find some older, but not all

[Q] How to run Sony Style Cover application from Z3c on Z1c?

Hello everybody!
There is a Sony Style Covers (scr 24, scr 26 and scr 30 models) for a selected Z-series models.
This is a so-called smart covers with a window, nfc tag and a small magnet.
Theyr smart functionality provides with two application from Sony: priv-app/CoverApp.apk and app/coverwidget.apk
I would like to run this two applications on my Sony Xperia A2 (Japan version of Z1 Compact) but don't know how to do it.
Could you help me and point to a good instruction/article etc?
Thanks a lot!
P.S. Sorry for my poor English.
Sent from my SO-04F using XDA Free mobile app
My question is so hard or so noobish?
Or I ask it in wrong place?

You can try asking someone for those APK files they should work given the Z3C and the Z1C both run Lollipop with minor framework changes between the two.
Thanks for your answer, but I've try these apk files from a KitKat Z3 firmware, but without success. Error is "Not installed".
How to run it? Put it manually into appropriate folders? And what aftet? How to install and run?

Try pushing it to System Manually. Don't forget to give rw-r-r permissions, I also tried taking the APKs from my Z3C and installed them on my Z1c but it didn't work too. If it still doesn't work its probably because of different framework
Ok, I'll try so, but think it will be unsuccessful, because APK should be installed in some way to function properly. This is a system applications which work in background mode.

Strange behavior after replacing screen

Hi All!
I bought and replaced broken screen of my Xperia Z1 Compact and faced with strange behavior of the smartphone
Now it works only with Android 4.3 (absolutely no problem with this version) while versions 4.4 and 5.0 stick at the logo screen. I noticed that the logo screens of 4.4 and 5.0 show two logos (center and bottom) while 4.3 shows only one logo at the center.
Can anyone recommend any solution (I know I can replace the screen again )?
Thanks,
Oleg.
I think, you installed a screen which is not fully supported by a 4.4/5.0 kernel or screen drivers.
You could post here a manufacturer and a model of your screen and someone could proove my opinion.

I have found answer, yes, this could be done.
For example, by method in FlashTool described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40587671&postcount=262
Or by Xflasher tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2986634
