Light bleed and brighter display on top - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My screen on the top is more brighter and gives a gradient efect to the status bar or notification bar. Anyone notice that? I saw 3 LG G4 and all seems to have this. And a little light bleed on the bottom which is not very visible. How are yours? Pics : http://imgur.com/a/zCuO4 http://imgur.com/DFQOTuY

same here
In the shop seem like this too
Dual sim H818P model, Thailand

I went yesterday to a Vodafone shop and the G4 from their showroom was the same. A bit lighter in the top of the display. I guess all are the same. But why LG let this happend?

I'm not seeing it on my H812. I'll check my girlfriend's G4 in the morning and see if hers is any different but mine looks solid.

Lg G4 from android authority. Clearly a gradient in the top of the display http://cdn02.androidauthority.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/lg-g4-review-aa-28-of-34-710x399.jpg

Same here. The ones having this "problem" have colder white point and much more brightness than the ones without this problem with the warmer white point of white
Seems different panels were used

Same on the Nexus 5X. It does look cool, its very eaven and very small so it looks like status bar is in fact supposed to be gradient. However there is no light bleed on black screen. No bleeding at all, only when the status bar is colored with bright color, like green, red or orange. Full black screen at full brightnes head on has no light bleeding at all. It may be that LG uses the same binding process of display to midframe like on the G4. Because the pannels are obiously different at least in terms of the resolution but also the size.

For me was annoying enough to return the phone and get another phone from another brand. I tested 4 LG G4 and all have this gradient on the top of the screen, so replacing the phone with same model wasn't a solution. @sageman yes,you are right. I saw a Nexus 5X in a local store with the same issue.

Ghosting. Do you get it?

Greetings.
I have noticed that my Desire Z gets some ghosting/bleeding when looking at high contrast images. In the images I have included the gray area next to the black and white bars get noticably lighter than the rest of the background, although they are the same color. It looks like there is a light bar the same size as the black and white bars, although there is no color difference in the gray. Could someone check if this is a problem with the devices, or just a problem with my phone?

I though ghosting was lcd burn in but I did have lcd burn in or persistant image on background
T-Mobile G2 1.42 GHZ
Might be called ghosting or lcd inversion I think. Terminology differs a bit... But did you get different colors in the image?

No I just had the previews background show up on whatever current background I was in transparency
T-Mobile G2 1.42 GHZ
The images display normally on my G2.. could be a hardware defect, in which case I'd recommend seeing if you can get a replacement.

A very bad display

Ever since I got my Xperia M the display has had blueish tint and bad color reproduction but I acknowledged that is a problem with every Xperia M. But beside that, when I look at the display from an angle, on a white background, I can see a gray line appearing from top of the screen and a gray circle in the middle. Again, it is visible as an effect when looking at an angle, cannot see it when looking directly at it. I also have a bright pixel on a black background. Are these also negligible, common issues or along already bad screen I've got a defected screen? I am very disappointed in Sony anyhow.

I'm pretty sure I saw this post somewhere b4... anyway for bluish tint - get the white balance app from @xperiaz2 (Yes, you need root and the bluish tint is due to the colour temperature, its at around 10k+, the norm. being around 6500k) Gray line appearing... pretty sure you're having a defected display and about the bright pixel, display is defected. Yes you got a defected screen (The bluish tint is not a defect though) so just bring it back to where you bought it and they'll replace it for you! (If the warranty is still live)
Well I posted on Xperia support forum trying to get help there, too. Or just an insight of what could that be and what could cause the problem. Anyway, here are a couple of pictures taken with a phone. The camera couldn't get that grey line properly but it appeared as a shadow from the top of the screen probably because as I said it's like an effect when tilting the phone, not a still colour. http://imgur.com/3Ae2rdr http://imgur.com/Nyv2maS
I suggest you to bring it back to the shop, that problem isn't present on mine.

Green tinted screen?

I'm looking forward to the G4 a lot, so I've been trying to see as much about it as I can, and it seems like sometimes it has a very strong green tint to the screen.
https://youtu.be/62uub0cHGEM?t=545
9:45 - Look at the white background behind her on each phone.
https://youtu.be/vOgGg5hX4Qo
0:00 - Look at the color of the google search bar on the G4 and the S6 (not the M9 because it's not trying to be white).
https://youtu.be/AADWxIXdimY?t=17
0:17 - This one doesn't appear to have the green tint, but it is phonearena and the video is low quality, plus their review said it had a very cold colored display, which would fit with the green tint.
https://youtu.be/ulc6Ha9GqH0?t=115
1:55 - Again the google search bar on the G4, and the white parts of certain app icons on the iPhone. This one also doesn't seem to have the green tint.
https://youtu.be/c2Znb6i07xg?t=112
1:52 - Also missing the green tint, and I think I've noticed that when the lights are brighter, the green tint isn't there.
https://youtu.be/arMxaPbO4rc?t=26
0:26 - Missing again.
I'm not sure what to believe. Could these be issues with certain versions LG (or T-Mobile) have been sending out to people? Are these just a couple lemons? Could something else be to blame?
G3 had yellow tint, hope this is NOT true!

Yellow tint? Compared to a Moto G 2014, my G3 has a blueish tint on the screen. I just think that LG G3's screen has quite a precise white balance level.

I agree, I find the G3 to have correct white balance. The issue is the screen is really dull, very low saturation and contrast, and the annoying oversharpening problem.

Yellow glow from screen with black

When displaying a pure black image on the p2 the bottom left 1/3 of screen has a slight yellow glow to it when you look at it in a dark room. The same area looks more warmer than the rest when displaying grey. Anyone else noticed this? From searching around I've seen complaints about similar issues on some other amoled screens on nokia, oneplus, lg etc. So much for amoled showing pure black, if you want that it looks like you have to get a samsung phone. It's still better when compared to IPS but the uneven tone can be annoying.

I noticed this in dark environment, this is mostly visible when you pull down notification bar, I don't know the reason but noticed this - not a major issue.

Just got my S9, but why the screen tend to be more yellow ?

Honesly, i don't expect the screen to be yellowish like that, but it is a bit yellowish only if i view it 90 degrees directly. If i view it from the side, the screen shift to blueish colour
Your guide is so useful since i am a new Samsung user, thanks
What phone are you coming from and what other electronic screens do you have around? The S9 is calibrated to 65K (see color temperature) and can appear yellowish if you are used to other screens that defaults to higher color temperature (including most iPhones/iPads). In that scenario there is nothing wrong with the screen and your eyes will get used to the new white pretty quickly.
On the other hand if your screen appears severely yellow compared to other Galaxy S9s' (e.g. check store models) then you probably should 1) get yours replaced from where you bought it, or 2) contact Samsung tech support.
Thanks for your reply, i come from Xiaomi Mi4i, it is cheaper phone by a large margin, but i don't know why the white seems nicer. Oh and i have another question , when i tilt the screen to the side, the white switch to blueish colour and it seems nicer than staring at the phone on 90 degrees, is that sAMOLED thingies ?
As to your latter question, yes that is an AMOLED thing. As to the first, do this simple test: Go to a room with no direct sunlight and no other electronical screens, where you can just look at the phone's screen without distraction. Use the phone for 10 minutes or so @50%+ brightness as you normally would, without worrying about 90 degree tilting. Do your eyes see the whie as yellow? Or have your eye adjusted to the new screen and white now looks white? If the latter, then your screen is likely just fine.
If you want to see what yellow-white looks like, try "Blue Light Filter." That thing does turn the screen yellow. (maybe you have it enabled now and that is why you are seeing yellow? )

I have no first-hand experience with the Mi4i, but judging from what I can see in videos its color temperature is at least at 7500K, meaning it has blue-ish white.

hi im having the same problem with my s9 brought it yesterday and youtube videos look horrible discolor yellowish
had that issue with my first S8+. compare it with store models to check. my replacement was much better. now I have the S9, and it's definitely not yellowish. it's such a good white balance actually. so if you're not happy with it, exchange it while you can.
Thanks for all of the reply appreciate it, i check to the store and... turns out it is the same white as mine, still like the bluish white on my former phone. Compared to the note series, the note has better white. I tried to change the screen settings to cool, but it appear greenish. @lopri Thanks for the research on Youtube, respect for the additional research
I already calibrate the screen to cool, to overcome the greenish, i turn down the red and green color, now it is better but still can't resist my old phone blue-ish white.
When watching video on youtube it turns orange-ish, it might be because the video enhancer <- Now this is the problem
Before i got the phone, i have an impression that it would have a very great display... , but now it feels -- only good, but not overwhelmingly great like the review said
"ยท Record small Shifts in Brightness and Color with Viewing Angle, including White."
http://www.displaymate.com/Galaxy_S9_ShootOut_1s.htm
Adjust the display settings. Put display warmth to the highest then reduce red and green to a quarter.

it's possible the store display also has the same issue. mine is bluish white. I went through the same thing as you with my former S8+, in that even changing settings to cool, didn't make much difference. the replacement I got after confirmed that it was the display itself.
Yep, comparing the S9 and S8 side by side the S9 has a yellow tinted screen. The whites aren't as clear even after adjusting the colour settings.
