Lost my job, so now I have time to hack this thing! :P - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

I've had mine for a while but now I have the time to fix the mic.
I remember a long while back there was a thread about fixing the scaling in apps like Google Music but now I can't seem to find it?
Also, If I hook up an old SSD to the USB port, can I configure that as the default storage so I don't run out of app space? My basic use for this is music and podcasts so Id like to be able to dump all the user files on the ssd and just use the internal memory / sd card for the apps.
Thanks!

Xposed App settings will change dpi on per app basis

I don't think so, you need to repartition your main storage area (where apps go by default). or look into foldermount type simlinks

Why is my builtin memory so filled (50MB left) if I am installing programs on SD Card

I have been installing all my programs on my SD card yet I only have 50MB or built in space left (not RAM).
Any ideas on why so low and maybe what I can do to verify if some files ended up in the actual phone?
I have SPB Shell and phone suite btw.
Also, can you make this thing louder? I can barely hear people when I am driving... my LG VU was a lot louder.
I love this phone and that is the only thing I dont like so far.
Thanks
ATT Tilt2
Well what ROM are you using? Some roms are heavy on internal storage energy/cell. However i dont think they would deplete memory to that extreme. can you list some of the apps your using? with some apps they store things on internal memory even when installed on sd.
To fix volume, programs like hd tweak will allow you exceed the 100db limit built in. and a few other volume tweaks.
If you list your 3rd party apps im sure someone can help out further
Start --> Settings --> Memory --> Click on the "Find" large files using storage memory. Or use Total Commander's find function (probably better). Probably have some default folders like My Docs or My Downloads pointing to your internal storage.
I use a program called where is my RAM to find out what folders/files are the largest. I know SPB Mobile shell takes up a HUGE portion of the available memory and that is most likely where all your memory went.

I have heard of alot of people having problems with using the volume enhancement settings on HDTweak, there is an audiopara file that you copy to /Windows floating around here that I believe will make your external speaker louder, so you could just put your phone on speaker when driving, which is probly better than holding it to your head anyways. Just use search function and search for "audiopara" and if you still cant find it, I have it on my comp, I can up it for you later. I would do it now, but I'm posting from my phone...
btw I had the VU too, what an improvement in ease of texting this phone is over that dinky little keypad huh? I did really like the photo editor on the VU though, thats the one thing I really miss from that phone
Thanks a lot guys I will check all that for sure.
I love how much better youtube and just normal videos look on this sharp screen over the VU for sure...plus I was just watching SouthPark (flash)...cant beat that!

[Q] Modifying Media Scanner to Read EMMC

I've noticed ROMs such as Uncommon Sense and SkyRaider include a modified media scanner that enables non-HTC apps to access the internal EMMC storage.
I'm currently running Virtuous 3.0.1; is there an apk or other file I can pull from either one of those ROMs to replace my current one, or would it involve a lot more than that?

It is possible to drag-n-drop a file to get your media scanner to read EMMC. HOWEVER, there are some sacrifices you will have to make for this ability. For one thing, you will bork your ability for the camera application to write to EMMC. The same thing goes for your voice recorder application. You can only write to the sd card directly from these applications. So its your call.
This is something I'd love to see also. While I'm currently on Virtuous, it would be nice for a universal .apk or something to apply in Rom Manager/CWM that works for any rom. I tend to try roms out here and there, so something universal would be very handy.
As for the "loss of functionality". What's the big deal with Pictures? You can save them to SD. I fact, I think mine have always saved to SD. What's the advantage of saving to EMMC > SD? And personally, I never have used Voice Recorder.....

IMHO the emmc isn't used by anything.g except HTC. Saving camera to emmc gives you that much more free space on your SD card

The reason I'm interested in it is that I only have the crappy 2gb SD card that came with the phone, so I store my 4 gigs of music on EMMC.
I use Launcher Pro and have been wanting a music widget that shows artwork. I've tried a couple out, but they either don't work on DInc (Pure) or I don't like their design (Mixzing).
I recently pulled the Music Mod app from Uncommon Sense for it's widget, which is exactly what I'm looking for. All I need now is for the app to be able to read EMMC and I'll have the widget I've been wanting for so long.

As for this, I am looking for an integrated solution that won't have these side effects. Again because I only have a 2gb SD card, which is mostly used up by 2 nandroid backups and titanium backup for all my apps/settings, leaving a tiny bit of room for me to download a ROM or two on there if need be.

There are two ways to do it. Use the media scanner code in cyanogenmod witch now scans the /mnt directory not just /mnt/sdcard. You can also make mount the emmc partition to /sdcard/emmc this works as well.

I have some coding experience, but unfortunately I'm not at all familiar with the internals of android. Any idea where can I locate the code for the media scanner from within cyanogenmod?

Thanks k_flan!
Unfortunately as I've said, I'm a noob with Android programming. At the risk of being a bit annoying, would anyone be so kind as to tell this beginner how I can compile/build this code into something I can slap on my device? I have Eclipse set up with the Android SDK and everything, I've just never done anything with it. I notice this code is part of a service rather than just a run of the mill apk, so I'm assuming I can't just pull a file and replace it on my end, but I don't know how something like that does work.
I'm still trying to figure out what good having 8gb of internal storage is when nothing seems to be able to make use of it.
Sure, I can copy files to it, MP3s, etc, but the music player doesn't seem to look there since I have an 8gb card installed as well.
(Yeah, I know I can use Astro or something to go play them -- but that's not really convenient...)

I somehow doubt this would work ... and if it did, not cause problems.
From the stand point of liunx, mounting emmc to a directory on the sim card is actually a very good method if your after simply playing music. If your after any of the other functionality the phone may use the internal storage for then your assed out, but to just access music. Good plan.
For me, I'd care less about saving pictures to SD versus EMMC. I'm more concerned about the 2-3 gigs of music being on EMMC than to be forced to save pictures to SD (which is what it's doing be default on every rom I've used anyways). As someone pointed out, what good is my 8 gigs of internal memory doing if I can't use it for music or videos. Yes, the problem is more so that apps like TuneWiki should add the function that the stock player has (don't tell me it can't be done, if there are apps already doing it). But if there's a work around that has what feels like a small sacrifice, I don't understand the big deal. I am not saying all roms should come with this as a stock setting, but if someone were to be able to whip up something that will work across roms, that would be nifty =]

[Q] Apps to SD Card?

So my tablet is getting pretty full(its an 8gb), and I want to move some of my apps to my 16gb sd card, but I dont know how, I tried the Apps2SD app, but it doesnt seem to work. Can anyone help me out?
No, none of the Froyo/Gingerbread utilities work with Honeycomb due to the different memory arrangement. Here is some more discussion:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415472
Ugh okay, so I can only delete apps to make room for others?
You can back up your apps to .apks on your external sd card, using either ES File Manager or Astro. That makes it easy to delete them and later re-install them.

Its been discussed pretty heavily in other threads, (using search will find them) just moving the app won't do a whole lot for you since the data for the app is still stored in the internal memory. I created a internal to external memory swap found in the development section to help with this problem but using a 16gb external card won't be a whole lot of extra space (although it'll still be better than the 5.7gb of space that the internal memory has for storage).
While it wont help with apps, most often its the apps data that is a problem not the app itself so I use the app GL to SD from the market
https://market.android.com/details?...t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5zbGYuTGlzdGdsQXBwIl0.
You have to be rooted but I find it works great. Its designed to store game data for Gameloft games on your SD card instead of your internal memory since most of them take in the neighborhood of 800MB a piece (or more) but it works for seemingly anything.
So far it has also successfully worked for every game I have used it on including GTAIII, Sonic CD, and Galaxy on Fire 2 to name a few.
It also lets you specify custom mount points for those apps that store their data in a weird space.

USB External Storage PLEASE

Hello All, yes I’m new to this site and my Joying 4.4.4 radio. So far I’m really liking the radio and its features however I have a few questions I hope someone ca help me with. As I’ve started to load my favourite apps its fast running out of internal storage. Simple how do I store downloaded apps and Nav maps to my external 32GB USB. I see the option to move (some) apps to the internal 12GB storage but surely I can run another external storage device. Secod last question for now, how can I set PowerAmp as my default audio player. My navigation won’t announce over PowerAmp.

Dunno bout the default player, but as far as navigation is concerned, I think keeping maps and stuff on the SDcard depends solely on the navigation app you use. It's an Android issue, not unit issue. I for one use Navitel and have no problem keeping all content files on the card.
Yes agree..
Android 5.1 and below don't allow you to add extended memory as device memory..
With that being said there could be ways of mapping folders to the sdcard/USB storage as we have dine this on Android box's TV boxs over the years to run XBMC/KODI..
But..there is hope...still away off for these devices as marshmallow Android 6 gives you the option to treat a sdcard as internal memory..
Best idea at this stage is go the custom ROM to increase internal to 4g (Malaysk standard is 2g but another guy has released a patch to push it to 4g)..
For now that's your answer.. And spend time sending data of programs to the sdcard via setup/apps..
As to making default programs work, custom ROMs allow you to do this.. But as been documented many times, getting the GPS volume right can be trying to say the least as different GPS programs seem to send voice to android in different ways.. Thus many times you will turn up the music and the gps voice will shock the **** out you as out comes over top loud..
But once again, custom ROM allows 3 levels of volume on the gps... But as said. Each different program I have found will come out at different levels..
Hope that all makes sense..

I will look for the other Mount we use to do as I think it could be applied to these devices..

how to clean other files with huge size in internal memory in storage analyzer

I have my Galaxy Note 10 + for 11 months now, with 256 gb internal storage and 128 GB SD card and a few months ago I was notified that my internal storage space was almost full. It was very difficult for me to believe this, as I do not have nearly enough pictures to be taking that up (pictures and videos are routinely uploaded to Google Drive and are stored on external SD card), and all of my music is loaded onto an SD card.
I have cleaned recycle bin but something is getting piled up day by day reducing main storage of the phone base memory. When actually measured the folders account only 60 gb in base memory but there is very less free memory.
Looking at the storage analysis, the problem seems to come from a large amount of space being taken up in the "other" category, but I cannot figure out what is categorized under "other" or why it is filling. How do I identify these files and delete them if unwanted?
SD Maid Pro works great for me. I can confirm that it can delete files. Just did some storage management yesterday.

Good app...
The original samsung Device Care that was loaded with Pie cleans very well.
Don't update it... the new sanitized version sucks.
I put the phone in airplane mode when using it and keep it package block it otherwise. It's probably chinese spyware but works well if gagged, lol.
I use a tool called "DiskUsage". Try installing that from the play store and give it a shot...

Check browser caches/data etc.
Go down the line with all apps including system ones. Google is a hog. See who'd hogging the beef....
I use SD Maid Pro to clean, it does a good job.
Just about time to do a reload anyway. Be picky about the apps you put on the new load.

Use the file manager and sort by size, what's on top?
You need to manually hunt for it. Check app data especially Google's. SD Maid doesn't delete app data.
Get the Windows driver for it and view the Android on the PC. Play with it. Off load some of the files and watch how it behaves. Does internal memory unexpectedly keep being used up?
You can try clearing the system cache on the boot menu but I don't think it will help. Never hurts.
That copy sounds like it's getting old... maybe reload time anyway.
