Z5P, Nexus 6P or Samsung S6 edge plus - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I bought a Nexus 6P however I am not happy with the battery life and when you need to charge it its almost impossible to find USB C,
Other that I am very happy with marshmallows privacy features such as app permissions that's the reason I came back to android,
Since I am within my cancellation period my provider has offered me Z5P or S6 edge plus at no extra cost.
Which one should I go for?
Major selling points are which one gets upgrade to marshmallow first or has better after sale value
Battery life is also very important but with micros USB chargers available everywhere makes life easier.
Thanks

Since you kind of decided against the 6P, I would definitely go for the Z5.
Sent from my Xperia Z3

I have the 6P and Z5P...honestly, the Z5P is the better of the two...I'm sticking with the Z5 Premium

can't speak for S6E+ as i haven't owned one but i can say that i'm very happy with my Z5P right now. both will definitely get the marshmallow upgrade although not sure who'll get it first but Z5P has the bigger battery of the two. then again, Z5P has a 4K screen so if you're always using the native sony app for both photo and video, it'll drain the batt much faster than what you expect.

Thanks how long does the battery last?

Not had the 6P but had the z5p and battery life was awful and I swapped it for the S6 Edge plus and battery life is awesome, infact the whole phone is better than the Z5P screen, performance, headphone and speaker sound & volume, camera, look &feel, charging only missing a card slot really.

RCJ89 I save already ordered Z5P I might sell it and settle for something cheap.

Fair enough, I know a few people who were waiting a while for the premium paid £600 for it at carphone warehouse and have been left disappointed and are now looking to move on already.
Biggest complaint are battery life & cant see the 4K screen diff between that and a 2K screen.

I returned 6p because of size and no sd card slot.
Ordered z5p got it for 5 hours in first full charge I feel battery life same as 6p .i don't know maybe need couple circle full charge to compare again

Yes I tried mine today and it wasn't bad on a 5 volt it charged under 2 hours..

You should try the s6 edge plus. I get 4:30 to 5 hours of sot. Sound is really loud and clear when using headphones. And the screen is the best in the business. The only con is the update schedule.

I have sold mine so happy days it wasn't as attractive as nexus 6p but than I am not a Sony fan.. I got this cheapo wileyfox swift with CM12 it does a good job for what I want a phone to do.

Samsung Firmware always have lots of special features and of course for EDGE display so if u need those features go for Edge+
If Fast Firmware/Security update matter for u then go for Nexus
But Gr8 camera and nice/smooth UI, Gr8 sound and generally GR8 User Experience go for Xperia
:good:

I have S6 edge+ and Z5P (have not seen nexus 6p yet). Battery is about the same, with a few tweaks, I can go a full day with 20% left. Screen is amazing on both. I had no use for the "edge" special stuff, and it made some functions awkward when touching the very edge of the screen. Both cameras are great, if you aren't a photography nerd you will be very happy with either. I am selling the S6 edge+ and keeping the Sony. I love the water resistance, the SD card slot (128GB for $40), and the feel seems more "solid". TouchWiz is pretty mature, but I prefer Xperia's implementation. Either is a great phone. The Z5P has marshmallow release in testing for developers, Samsung says marshmallow is coming any day for S6 edge+. So, not very helpful? Relax. It's just a phone.

Hello nexus community! Here we go, my original two year contract is up when I got the OG Droid.
My questions are...
is Is it worth purchasing the galaxy nexus?
How is the camera? (1-10)
What are the pros and cons?
Is extended battery necessary? (Official by Samsung)
Screen protector necessary?
Is the screen easy to crack?
Could you live with the phone for 2 years?

Hey I would say yes! I had an SGS2 before and I love my Nexus better. I find the camera perfect and having no shutter lag is cool. I would give it a 9. Also all the benefits of ICS are great. I would highly recommend one. All the best.

What he said.
Minus: I didnt have sgs2 before (SGS1).
Plus: Love having updates from google directly (Not having to wait for "It will be released in the 4th quarter of the year bloopety bloop).
If the phones your comparing are this and the thunderbolt there is no comparison. This phone is far better than the thunderbolt in many ways, 1 being the operating system, 2 being the battery life, 3 being the screen and phone manufacturer, and last but not least would be the updates direct from Google. This phone is pure with very little "bloat" from Verizon on it. The camera is AWESOME due to the no shutter lag...the quality is just fine for me at 5mp but could have been better for those who need it. I have rooted mine, which is not necessary but this phone is probably the most fun phone out today when it comes to tweeks and tinkering...just my opinions!
I'm not sure if it's possibly my phone or kernel settings but I've had nothing but awful battery life with my Nexus - Don't get anywhere near the amount of battery life I was getting with my bolt (have the verizon extended battery's for both).
Was actually debating returning my nexus and seeing what comes out later this year but missed the return deadline by one day :-/

There is a BIG difference in battery life with the GSM and the LTE version of the Nexus. LTE uses much more battery then the GSM version.

Im using LTE as well and the only battery you can compare with the Tbolt extended battery is the new Superpowered Seido extended battery. The verizon extended battery is basically a standard battery and adds no bulk. The Tbolt extended battery is hideous looking and feels very weird in the hands.

Yea was never a fan of the tbolt extended battery... didn't help that the second day I was using it I dropped my once protected by a case phone and shattered the damn screen lol :-(
But I could at least get a day with moderate use out of the battery.
If I stay on wifi it helps alot with battery life so I know it's the LTE - I'm using the AOKP rom and hoping they fix the issues with the power saver cause I think the "LTE off" when the screen is off feature would help alot but can't get it to work smoothly on my phone.

[Q] Key Factor: Battery Life

Hey,
Like many of you, I am extremely interested in the HTC One X. However, my one concern is the battery life - and is the only thing that is preventing me from pre-ordering one (and claiming the free MediaLink HD included with phones4u).
I currently have a Motorola Milestone, and have had so for around 26 months now - I believe the battery in that is about 1,450mAh - however, is effectively dead now getting no more than two hours solid use (apps). Now, I could easily go and buy a new battery for the Milestone - but won't as I am hoping to upgrade within a month.
My concern is therefore the non-removable, 1,800mAh battery found in the One X. Does anyone have any idea how long the One X will last with a good amount of usage, as I don't want to buy a phone that is going to have a poor battery life, that will become even worse within one year (two year contracts, after all)?
Thanks
My Galaxy Nexus with 1750mah battery, roughly the same size screen (4.65"), also 720p but different screen tech lasted about 3h10m screen on time on average :/
Which was obviously poor, but there are lots of factors that will affect this HTC, eg better processor (with companion core), Super LCD 2 might be more energy efficient plus HTC software should hopefully result in better battery but I'm not holding out for anymore than 4 hour screen on time tbh
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Also as far as lasting the length of the contract goes, according to their website carphone warehouse offer 24 month warranty for the phone, 12 for accessories and battery.
So if it was to get worse you'd be able to send it off for repair and they'd probably just replace as I doubt they'd be able to fix it with it being unibody.

Hmm, going to change settings on my Milestone to see what battery life I get out of that without touching it (screen on). I would be disappointed with 4 hours screen time to be fair.

Truth be told, the reason I did not buy Galaxy Nexus was because the poor battery life and 16GB storage. If you go to gsmerana.com and find the galaxy nexus battery result, you'd be suprise because GN is MOST worst battery life test expecially in web browsing roughly survive 3 hour in GSM model.

This one don't worry about it. In my research, I found out that when on idle, HTC One X will use the fifth core to save battery life. Whenever you watch video(this one most benefit to me ), it's up to 60% of power saving using 4 cores which is 12 hours. The lack of mirco SD card also helped to improve performance and battery life since don't require additional card reading. 4 cores actually increase performance while increase battery life when browsing, gaming, video and others.

I too wonder this. I guess the overall finish looks slightly better without a removable back cover. The lack of the MicroSD slot is not a big deal for me, simply because of the good amount of internal storage - and the 25gb Dropbox storage that comes included. I am trying to hold out from pre-ordering, with the (bleak) hope of seeing the Galaxy S3 event announced before the 5th of April. I guess the majority of deals available will still be available after the release.
Another problem for me, is HTC's habit of releasing an unnecessary number of phones a year, compared to the S series which is an annual flagship affair. Having said that, I have never been a fan of the "Home" button on the S3 - but that wouldn't stop me buying it if it topped the One X on the majority of key features (erm, a removable battery for a start?)

Actually I see no point of having removable battery cover because when you dropped a phone, the phone will actually break out..battery cover, battery and even worst SIM-card. My father has damaged his phone because of constantly dropping phone and I have to repair it piece by piece. About your second problem, don't worry about it. HTC already stated that they will focus on "Quality" not "Quantity". That is why you saw One-series were based on this idea.

The sim card wouldn't fall out if it is kept in the place it is now. The issue is the battery is really small (at first glance) for such a powerful phone, and if you can't even carry a spare..
I have had most HTC phones in the last 3 years. I have never had to use my spare.
What i do have though is my small APC portable battery pack

Try to compare with Galaxy nexus regarding battery..
HTC one x has,
- larger battery
- SLCD2, which uses less power over amoled
- tegra 3 has companion core too
So, to compare to the latest nexus, the ONE X should offer much better battery.
..... So, cant be too bad.

1% over night with the atp? with or without doc?
That would mean, since the htc one x has 1800mah, and the transformer has 6930mah, that we lose 3-4% over night, which is pretty good.

Thinking about jumping ship on Gnex.. What has the best battery on VZW?

Ive been with the Gnwx for almost a year now. I love the speed etc but the battery life isnt cutting it for me anymore. ANd honestly, Im not into flashing like I once was. I use the phone for 90% internet, 8% text and 2% GPS. thats pretty much it. The Gnex gets BAD signal in the building where I work, when people on TMO have full signal, Im rocking 1-2 bars on a good day. Its usually 1 bar. Even other VZW people are at least 1/2-full bars at all times. Funny thing is, once Im outside I get good signal. But once I get into the country-ish areas, the signal gets hit again. I can get 1.75-2 hours of use from the extended VZM OEM battery. Ive tried different roms and kernels to not much help.
So all in all, I need a phone that has good radios and good-decent battery. I guess that phone would be the Maxx right? Best battery life and best radios? What do you guys recommend?
Absolutely. My buddy has a Maxx and although it is heavy and ugly, it is a rock solid phone.

I was thinking about that. As much as I dont want to, the thing that means most to me now is battery life and signal. Not the latest and greatest.

I've read (the usual caveats here) that the Galaxy Note II has both very good reception and what I can only describe as astounding battery life. One tester mentioned 8 hours of onscreen time (!). And that's with the huge 5.5" screen. Also survived drop tests intact, has removable battery, sdcard slot, FM radio, excellent CPU benchmarks, and on and on.
Not to some people's taste, of course, but very interesting.
Hmmmmm, buy spare batteries?
;p
i used to get bad signal to till i got the 4.1.1 update now its better not perfect but better i agree i use it for 90% internet i usually charge over night and once in the day about 60% i would suggest maybe the nexus 4 or s3 there maybe a better battery out there probably cost about $80+ tho

If you want battery life, get the Droid Rarz HD Maxx. Nothing beats that phone in terms of battery life. Plus its a great device with a nice screen.

Didn't realize the Note2 was receiving so much praise for its battery, that's really cool because I have been thinking about picking one up.
Note 2 - 3,100mAh
RAZR MAXX HD - 3300mAh
And I have no idea what carrier(s) but supposedly the new Lenovo P770 will have a 3500mAh battery.
I am very happy OEMs are starting to focus on the batteries, it took them waaay too long imo.
thanks guys. I dont want to get the Seido battery because its massive! Look how thin that maxx is..
External perhaps...
Not sure if you have just considered upgrading to the 2100mah samsung battery that was going to be stock with the original sale...supposedly adds like 30% to battery life.
I did that.
The maxx has great battery but please compare the beauty of the note 2 to the hideousness of just another droid. Besides Samsung never let's you down.

What about the bootloader on the MAXX though? I know it's locked, and I dont believe it is in the Moto "BL unlock program". An unlocked BL is a requirement for me because of AOSP. This isn't usually something you have to worry about with Samsung.

Need a battery? Try this 3800 mAh battery!

Hi guys. So I basically had a problem with my phone a while back, and I actually asked you guys but no one knew what the problem was. I realized I fried my battery, and I was searching every where for a cheap 3800 mAh one and I managed to find this guy:
So I was like, "Hey, it's 10 bucks, I can't go wrong, right?" and I ordered it.
It came in the mail within 5 days, which was like 6 times faster than those Chinese websites.
I put the battery on my phone and it works!
Now, I don't have a regular battery to compare with this 3800 mAh one, but I can tell you my regular one lasted me about 12 hours, from 7 am to 7 pm on a weekday.
My regular usage is 3 hours of learning Korean on my bus rides, playing music with speakers for 4 hours, sitting in my pocket when it's not doing anything, and sometimes some YouTube when I get back home.
This new 3800 mAh battery lasts for 26 hours with the same usage, and that's after I've watched an episode of Suits on my phone in bed =D
It is fatter than the regular battery, but that is to be expected from any 3800 mAh battery. It doesn't actually add much more weight to the phone. My regular case won't work with the increased bulk of the phone, but they do give you a new fatter battery cover, which feels pretty good in your hands. The shade of gray of the new battery cover matches the shade of gray of the phone.
I also need to download a better screen shot app, because all the screenies of the battery life that I took turned out black =O
Click here to buy it from Tmart.com
There's already a 3800mah thread full of insights just like yours! BTW the main problem with it is it degrades quickly. after 4 months, mine's giving me about 4:45min screen on time, earlier it was 6. In comparison, the standard battery gives 3 hrs so it's a huge step up! Definitely worth the 10 bucks, and should last until the nexus 5 arrives anyway!
I actually want to make this phone last as long as possible. I might even skip the nexus 5 and go nexus 6 lol. Who knows, maybe by that time the nexus 6 will be implanted in our brains.

Haha, that's actually possible. I'm on cataclysm 4.3 right now, this rom makes the phone fly like it's a galaxy s4! All the games work, multitasking is reasonably good, and there's definitely going to be a 5.0 update coming for it so I don't see why not!

I got one similar to this. It seemed to have lost it's capacity fairly quickly. At first it worked well. I wonder if this may have been due to CM 10.2 as well.
It looks similar to the Hyperion. It does degrade quickly. mine now only lasts about 28 hours with only about 2 hours of screen time. It's too bad, because when I got a full day of hiking with gps tracking it was awesome.

I have got a similar $10 battery folks. Now i did not get an external charger for out, is it alright if i charge with my regular USB port with the samsung 1A charger. Also m not getting any mind blowing backup compared to my 1700mah stock battery, just marginally better. I have just done 3 cycles with it may be it will improve.
One more thing the battery percentage
falls rapidly once it gets to 20. I mean its almost like a percent per minute, dunno what to do about it. :banghead:

I the same or similar battery. One day i tried using it (its my backup) and I cannot get the cover to snap into place. No matter how much I push on it the tabs are just getting messed up and I could not get all of them to click into the body of the phone. I used to work fine when I got it, as i recall.
Have you had this issue?

With this battery, you have to use the extended back cover. Mine works fine and its even easier to get on and off than my original cover. The original cover will not work with this battery.

Upgrading from GNEX to Nexus 5, battery problem.

As title,
I can't understand how an high end phone can have integrated battery.
I need to switch batteries once one is exhaust.
Why all this phones comes with integrated batteries?
Is there some info on the nexus 5 battery?
The idea behind integrated batteries is due to the fact that most of them make the phone slim and cheaper. Or so I was told by a spokesperson about it. As for the exhaust part. It usually lives to about 2-3 years before it needs a change.

I used the wrong word, I mean low battery not exhaust battery.
If you cannot switch to a charged battery and you use the phone during the day and you haven't got an AC, you are without the phone due to the low battery in the evening.

instead to buy an other battery, you could buy a portable power supply to charge the phone
It's a non-issue for 99% of users. Only a tiny fraction of Android users ever switch batteries.
It's less of an issue in modern phones. The Galaxy Nexus's battery life is notoriously terrible if you compare it to a modern phone which has no problem going with heavy usage with hours of screen-on time per day.

8000 maH portable charger is heavy and it charge the battery once or once and half.
8000maH is not comparable to a 8000maH battery, I think you know it.

Then you don't need a Nexus device.
It's pretty clear that Google's position is that they don't want removable batteries.

Because the tablets don't, the n4 doesn't, and according to ,ost leaked into, the 5 wpont either. Obviously that's the route they're taking, because they don't care to appeal to the 1% that want SD cards and removable batteries...

LOL , it's clear in that the N4 didn't have a removable battery , and the "D820" in the FCC filing has a non removable back . Just like the people complaining that Nexus' don't have SD slots , 64Gb storage or come in a variety of colors , you are forgetting this is a developers phone. Google isn't trying to steal any major market share from any of the manufacturers . Developers don't need 38 hour battery life , and I would imagine that they also don't do any work on the phone while on an overnight hike without a way to plug the phone in . I like having a removable battery , in the past I liked having a removable SD card , I decided the Nexus was the right phone for me so I gave up the sd card ,I will probably give up a removable battery and get the N5 . If you can't live without a removable battery , look to other devices. You have to find the phone that best suits your usage , because you will never get manufacturers to make a device to your specs .

Why? developers are not human or don't use the phone outside their work?
I'm an app developer so I like a nexus phone but I like carrying the phone around for my "real life".
Should I buy a phone to develop and one to go out with friends?
The argument that Nexus phones are still designed solely for developers (as was the case with the Nexus One) doesn't really hold water anymore, I don't think.
It seems to me that Nexus phones are designed for consumers now, given the price and design decisions. Of course, they make great developer devices as well.

Ciao sblanti
Anyway, if Nexus phones are developers only devices, why did Google do they with curved glass, super sexy back cover, more than 5MPx camera, and beautiful design?

ciao amico mio
I agree with you.
I kind of like it... I feel like some colour after all the black.
Yep non removable bat is paint to me to... thats why im still with my gnex.
Also you can put a 10 Amperes hour charging the phone and would make minimum diference since the power circuit that regulates the charge only allow a max of amps... and i dont think it goes above 3A or 3000mAh... the Joules effect on the internal circuits would be interesting to see with 8Amps.

I guess if battery is a problem theres always the LG G2 option?
I'm on the fence about this. I am fortunate, in that I'm almost always near an outlet, so I can just plug my phone in. So, I don't need to worry so much about battery life. My S3 has more than enough power to make it through the work day, where as the GNex always needed some juice just after lunch time. I never have to remove my battery, and have no need for anything larger. The LG-D820 has a bigger battery than the S3, so, all things being equal, the battery life will be a tad better (probably not enough to notice, as specs on paper don't always correlate to real life performance). I just wish manufacturers would stop making phones thinner and thinner. There's really no point, other than from a marketing standpoint, as well as aesthetics. Thinner phones are harder to hold. They have no "hips" to hold on to. Just look at the number of S3s with cracked screens for sale on ebay. Same with the Droid DNA, Nexus 4, etc. I suspect the S4 and LG G2 will be the same way. What is wrong with phones the thickness of the HTC Amaze 4G? The Evo Shift 4G? With phones that "thick", you could fit some serious batteries under there, which would help alleviate complaints about battery life, removable or not.
