FireTV Stick Issue - Newbie - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I purchased a firestick over the weekend and decided to install Kodi.
I have installed the following:
- Kodi 15.2
- Firestarter (for pressing home button to get to Kodi)
- 'The Beast'
Not sure if the above is the way to do it but I'm getting the following problems:
HD Movies plays but buffer too regular. Most times the HD Videos play too slow.
Also live sport like Sky Sports, BT Sports do nothing when I click on the channels.
What could be wrong? Have I missed something? I've cleared the cache.
The wireless connection seems to be okay as it shows 3 bars on screen. Is there any tests I can do on the firestick to determine that the wireless connection has nothing to do with the above problems?
Thanks

Go into the beast > maintenance (I think) > tuxen xml > edit settings > network > network again (I believe)
Make changes to reflect what's in the linked article (for the amount of free memory you have)

I apologize for not knowing the exact 'path' to get to the xml editor, but this helped with mine yesterday.....

No worries, i'll find the option but thanks for the direction.
Were you experiencing the same issues as me?

I experienced some buffering too. Sometimes it was pretty bad other times stuff would play really well. Just depends on the stream and how stable it was.
Tweaking the xml file won't be a cure all. You might have to settle for watching stuff in a bit lower quality. I've noticed better stability when selecting HD or LQ. The TV stick is a great machine, but it doesn't have the horsepower to read ahead and cache the stream too well because of a limited amount of memory.
I hope this helps.

Here's a really good read about buffering and the advancedsettings.xml file. It's more tailored to the AFTV box, but the concepts are similar and there is some really good info on the stick part way through the thread as well.

Hope this helps.

What is your "Background Process Limit"?

What do you guys set it at?
For those that are unaware you can find it here:
Settings > Developer Options > Background Process Limit
Anyways, I just want to gauge what XDA users do with this. I often set mine to "At most 3 processes" as oppose to the standard limit but I don't really see a difference. I assume the standard limit is Google's designed way to deal with apps in the background but that doesn't really tell us much.
Anyone have any observations on battery life or performance?
I guess the battery life wouldn't be much better than normal. Android deals with background processes pretty well so I've not bothered to change this option.

I keep trying to set mine to 4 but every time I reboot the phone, it sets back to the standard limit. Is this happening to everyone?

Same here.
Like I said in the other thread about this. Don't monkey around with those settings. They're meant for developers to troubleshoot the ways that their apps handle being put into the background and how they are managed when they're killed.
Android will handle your background processes. Just let them be. You'll be better off all around by doing so.
i set mine to 3, but how many process in standard limit?

I think there is not limit, app gets killed when phone runs out off free RAM
do not change that setting unless you like having worse battery life from apps having to constantly restart and lag from apps not being in cache.
I don't see why anyone except a developer trying to troubleshoot their apps would change this setting at all

it is SUPPOSED to do this.
it isn't meant to be something any regular user sets in order to try and get better performance or anything.
in fact, just the opposite may happen
I use "standart" and its`s absolutly OK!

I've not even worked out how to do that with google maps and i use sat nav quite a bit - 4 hour drive and doesn't use a huge amount of data anyway.
Expect this will be the same or even less - there support states "In order to start a navigation session you need network connection. However once the initial route has been downloaded (if you keep the original route or stay within one stray from any junction of the original route) you can continue to receive instructions seamlessly and transparently towards the specified destination without needing any further data download and without connecting to the network again. This is the most efficient and advanced method of off-route handling available today." so in theory no need to download any further map data (will do for live traffic i expect)
Anyhow - nice find - going to download this and give it a go. I normally use google navigation and run Radardriod pro- (£5.50 on market but i got a free one off getjar a while ago - not there anymore and you can update app which is pain in the arse!!! (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ventel.android.radardroid2&feature=search_result) Radardriod runs in the background alongside maps for the safety camera and also has a map overlay for current speed. This M8 app seems to have safety cameras included and M8 looks as if it might have the current speed on the lower bar too??
I'll do a comparison and will update on impressions when i've done so.

Go Locker problem

Hi there, I'm running paranoid android and just installed go locker. It works fine, all exept a notification that won't go away. It says: tap to launch&configure, and can't be swiped away. Clicking it opens up go locker, but the notification stays.
I already went to settings on my phone, and unticked the box to show messages, but thats not it.
Does anyone recognise this problem?

I have cyanogenmod 4.2 nightly on gs3 having same problem. Just flashed today so haven't tried all the usual tricks, yet. I guys I'll do the hokey pokey and then report back my findings.

Settings> applications> golocker> un check notifications. I cleared cache and data before I noticed this and it cleared it. So I hope this makes it permanent.
Just upgraded my galaxy S4 via the AT&T over the air update from 4.2 to 4.3 and now I have the same issue. Clicking "turn off notifications" under the Android settings - applications - go locker didn't resolve the problem. Thoughts?
I've been having this problem as well from GO Locker and the Side Dock from GO Launcher.
I've done the above fix and it's worked, but I haven't restarted it yet to see if it stays.

Ok I restarted and the GO Locker & Side Dock ones have gone, but the GO Launcher EX one has comeback asking me to turn "System Persistent" off.
It goes after I click on it, etc bit always returns after a restart.

I can't believe they did not make an app update to resolve this. Someone at Samsung sales must be looking for another job. Or his dad owns the company

Typically one can try goto settings> apps> all apps tab> scroll to and tap watchon app> within app info tap clear cache then clear data button.

It works, just uninstalled WATCH ON App. Bye bye error, which was annoying as @#&%! I thought my tablet was messed up! Not. Just that WATCH ON App. Great help from original poster. Now if I could only get my typing errors accurately auto corrected SAMSUNG.
Those of you that are uninstalling the WatchOn app, how are you doing that? I have an AT&T (T707A) and I don't ever get the option to uninstall it. I can disable it, but it comes back after a while. I've even reset the tablet a couple of times hoping that would trigger the uninstall prompt, but nada.
I have the same issue. But I'm not with AT&T. I purchased mine at office depot. Talked with samsung several times. They didn't even know how to fix it. I can't delete it. If I disable it, it just enables back. What can be done to fix this. I have the tab s.....
I'm using a Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1, SM-T520. I cleared WatchOn cache to solve the SERVER DID NOT RESPOND, TRY AGAIN LATER message.

Pop up ads on my home screen

Hello, so recently I've been dealing with pop up ads on my phone. I factory reset the phone and they were gone, but now it's having ads again when I don't even have an app open. I've tried virus scanners and nothing detected. Is there a way to figure out what file is causing this?
Thank you!
I had that same issue last week. Are they popping up though chrome or firefox? It was a rogue app on my part but for you it looks like its something else. Since you already factory reset the phone, you might as well download the latest build and "flash-all". After that you should not have any problems as it completely wipes the device.
If you goto your battery settings does it show an app that may be causing ads?

So it pops up randomly not just using chrome. A few minutes ago I was in the middle of a Clash Royale Game and an add popped up. I recently downloaded a QR reader from the play store and I think that's when it started again.
I deleted the app, but it's been still going on. That's why I went to use the anti virus/malware apps, but they found nothing.
Is there anyway to fix or find what is doing it without factory resetting?

check the root directory for any strange folders that should not belong there and delete those. I had some that were like 5489399fgjjll and crap. Those are a sure sign there is malware on your phone

anyone solved this problem?
UPDATE:
i may have found the culprit, it's the qrcode scanner app, i may need a few hour to verify this
Just did Kaspersky and nothing found. Another $3 wasted ...
@hketola: Kapersky isn't trustworthy IMO. Try Malwarebytes instead.
If you have Adaway installed, go into the settings and check for Adaware, it'll tell you what apps and what kind of ads they push
I just had the same problem and it seemed to be caused by the app store. So I read all your efforts and then took a look in my settings and here's what I did that resolved the issues: settings < apps & notifications < advanced < Special app access < display over other apps < google play services < switch to "not allowed"
Hope this works for you.

I'll let you know as I've been having this issue for the last few days. Thank you!
I fixed a similar issue on a friends phone. When Ad appears, swipe up (assuming pill gesture on Android 9) and you get the recents screens. The current app (app showing ad) icon will be at top of the screen preview. Press and hold on the icon until a context menu appears and select App Info. Now you know which app is popping ads up.
Google Account Ad Personalization (Ad Settings)
The Patriot Act started all this bull****. No Privacy
It's that ****ing google ads that you can opt out of, but they force the others ads on you.
This is an invasion of privacy you pay all this money for your personal phone and they force content on you whether you like it or not.
I'm thinking about downgrading my phone and operating systems?

Trying to get past the 10 post filter aye? That's what it looks like based upon the fact you replied to a post that's been dead for six months plus.
Now I won't engage with your political rant because this isn't political. You own the hardware, but Google owns the software, especially the Google apps. The ads are Google's means of recouping development costs of Android.
Now, if you don't want ads but want to use Google apps, you install and run Blokada. It works on virtually everything, except YouTube. Or you use a version of Android that doesn't include Google apps.
If neither option appeals to you, try and find a dumbphone, because Apple is worse.
