Multiple user profiles for Internet Explorer are not possible? A workaround? - Windows RT General

Greetings!
Hope you guys are doing well.
I don't have a background in IT so please excuse the wording and probably the incorrectly used terminology.
I was exploring the possibility of having multiple profiles with different browser settings for internet Explorer, more specifically a profile with flash plugin on and a seperate profile with flash plugin off, so that I don't have to go in the addons settings every time. You know for convenience purposes. I know that it is possible to adjust different settings for each new window but I don't want to do that every time.
I know that it is possible to define startup parameters for shortcuts, that once you run the application from a particular shortcut it launches with the included parameters. Please see the Picture, as I don't know how to properly explain myself. Replace the _ with . as I cannot post links since I am a new user.

I am wondering are there parameters to turn off flash? Google was not helpful on this one. Could this be done, and if so then how?
Any help will be much appreciated as getting something like this to work would really increase my productivity.

WM6 Dialer App/Macro

I'm amazed that I haven't been able to find something like this, but maybe I'm just not looking in the right places . . .
I want to find a WM6 app that lets me keep all of my Contacts in the international standard (+ [intl code] [area code] [prefix/number]), but then let me define different profiles that would automatically adjust the number before I dial it. The profile would not need to change automatically. I'm happy to change it myself, depending on the situation -- as traveling, using calling card or not, etc. These profiles would let me adjust for what country I'm in, whether I want to use a calling card, etc, etc.
For example, these are some of the profiles I could have:
[IN JAPAN]
Rule #1: Replace "+" with "0041 010"
Rule #2: Replace "+81 xxxxxx" with "0 xxxxxx"
[IN EUROPE/US]
Use Contacts as-is
[In EUROPE/US: CALLING CARD]
Append calling card info in front of number automatically
The most important usage of this app would be when dialing out calls, but it could also be applied to SMS/MMS. I don't use those as often, so I'm not sure how useful an app like this would be for those.
Does anyone have an app they would recommend for this?
Thanks in advance!
Sunnysoft callingcard can do something like this. However, it's interface is rather silly designed and, what it bothers me, you cannot redial the number (i.e. it doesn't show up in the dialed call log).
If you find another option, please _do_ pm me and post it here, since I'm looking for a while for something better.
Maybe something can be done using mortscript?
Thanks for the quick answers. I'll take a look at both of those . . . and keep looking for something else. This seems like an app that would be useful to a lot of people -- surprised it's not built into the OS or available as a 3rd-party app.
I also looking for this feature still no hopes.. surrpise a poweful WM phone doesn't included from OS rather a low processor regular Nokia and SonyEricsson all have.

Looking for Opinions

I'm trying to paste some .brn files to remove the provider branding of my touch. I apologize in advance if this has been discussed elsewhere, I just couldn't find it. I recently moved to the touch from a g4 wizard because of provider pricing changes, it made more sense to finally move to a phone with a data plan. My poor wizard...anyway, I'm unable to paste files like I could with my wizard. I would just open the windows folder and paste via the activesync connection, but now I get an access is denied error. I think what I did on my wizard was enable rapi and unsigned apps, is there something that will allow me to do this?
I don't like the rom that's on their right now, it's much slow than my wizard's clean rom, I want to access sprint tv and what not, but don't want it on my cube. I'm also looking for a way to add side swipe gestures, like if I use a left right gesture on today screen I want htc action to come up, and right left should be icontact...is their a way to do this without installing ftouchflo...? Please give me some guidance. I've bricked a wizard, ya baby, but after that I learned to read so I didn't do it again, so if I have to flash I will, but I don't want to void warranties or anything...
carrier name
are you just talking about the carrier name in the corner of your today screen? if so I can post a little .cab file thats lets you change it to whatever you want

No, it would be cool to change the carrier name though. I'm referencing all the carriers customization to my phone. For instance on my cube, my mediahub side has three options Sprint Music /Sprint Tv /On Demand. The sprint music launches an application where you can pay for and download music, the tv(doesn't work) but is supposed to open an application that I can watch mobile tv on, and the On demand brings me to a third party app(I think) that has option for weather and getting directions. I don't want any of these, I want my music button to open the htc audio manager, the sprint tv should open my pictures and the on demand should open my videos...plus I want to change the button pictures on the face of the cube itself. I'm not going to talk about how much I don't like the 6 app side. It's fine for a normal user of the phone I'm sure, but if I want to go to the sprint applications, I will set up my own links or access them through the programs folder...Ya know...?
My opinion is to completely remove the cube, you'll eventually see that changing the cube is just a simple skinning process. Bu, if you need to, you need to make .bmp files and convert them to .brn, search for the BMP/BRN Converter, it's a very simple app to make the conversion, search here for it. Or, check my Tips thread on how to remove it, and add a different cube.

Seeking suggestions of experienced modders

Newb here!
I have a Touch Pro 2 (and Vista Ultimate at home).
For those who've modded this model, what do you suggest are essentials, do-not miss mods to apply? And which are nice but optional?
I'm mostly seeking increased efficiency and better looks in par with this model's standards (ex. those few programs, like Twitter, that clash with the phone's esthetics).
Any help on this? Thanks in advance.
Here are three things I find essential. Any other graphical mod, you should just pick and choose according to your own preference.
1. Some sort of screenlock app. There's plenty of choices. Get one if you don't like pressing&holding the End key every time you finish using your device.
2. Use Advanced Config Tool to change the storage path of the camera. Under Camera, change the "Save location" to "My Pictures". Under Locations change the "Default storage location for image files" to whatever you want. I just stick with "\storage card\my documents\my pictures". This way, you can have the camera to name your files with the date/time prefix (which is more meaningful than "IMAG0027").
3. Install a custom taskbar that shows the remaining battery charge in percentage (like this one). The default battery indicator is pretty useless. You'll need this first.
That's a nice start, thank you ohyeahar!
Anybody else have their peev choice mods they'd like to warn me about? That battery percentage app sounds quite useful

[App][BETA] Kill**** - process killer

This is my first app for WinCE so please be nice!
Rant
It seems I'm part of a minority of users who understand that mobile devices and PDA's are not designed to run multiple apps at once. You can, but anyone with a decent sense of quality will agree that it's a rubbish experience once you get under 50% free memory. In fact the iPhone by default design doesn't let you multi-task apps (jailbreak changes this) which may be one of the reasons peeps think its a faster device. I say I'm part of a minority because most apps around are coded so that when you hit the 'x' close button they minimize instead of close (even by holding x). Also Windows has no inbuilt mechanisms for keeping your apps closed, and none of the roms I've tried (cooked or otherwise) seem to have these types of tools included.
Disclaimer
Firstly I hope I haven't reinvented the wheel or stolen anyone else's idea. I didn't research for months but didn't find anything like this around so apologize in advance if I upset anyone. Also I provide this tool "as-is" in BETA form - so it could damage your device - so use at your own risk.
Kill****?! What is it?
It is a simple app that kills running processes.
Why would I want it - what's wrong with Task Manager?
A common example is you open up Calc to do divide a dinner bill, lookup how to get home in Google maps, send an SMS to a friend and hit Home key. Then you wonder why the thing is running like a dog. You open task manager and notice you have these 3 freakin apps are open still and taking up your memory. So you're expected to open Task Manager after every time you're finished with an app?...no I dont think so..because you've got Kill****! You manage an exemption file, assign the app to one of your softkeys (or events) and it will quickly, quietly kill all other **** running for you.
How Does It Work?
It stores a text file on disk with names of processes that you wish to exempt. You can manage this via the included config tool. When you run the app (which is a console app) it just kills every running process other than the ones on your exclude list. The exclusion file is stored in your default MyDocuments folder and is called something like "NoofnyKill****.settings". Real simple.
What Do I Need To Run It?
Microsoft Windows Mobile (4 and above)
Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 3.5
How Do I Install It?
Simply run the attached CAB and everything is installed for you. 2 icons are added to your Start Menu (the config tool and the console app itself). The app is installed in the default Programs folder.
How Do I Use It?
If the exceptions file does not exist it will be created new and will contain all of the running process at the time the app ran.
The best instructions are;
1) Have your device in your preferred state with only your basic apps running.
2) Open the config tool from the start menu (Kill**** Config).
3) All of the running processes will list with a check next to them (which 4) means they will be exempted).
4) Click Menu -> Save Exceptions and close the config tool.
5) Assign the console app (KilL****.exe) to one of your softkeys or other buttons using your favorite tweak tool.
What Else Do I Need To Know?
I am not responsible for anything negative or positive this app will do to you, your device or life. Use at your own risk. I have not tested this app well and can only guarantee that I have fundamentally screwed something up. If anyone does use it and wants help I will do my best but try to help by giving as much detailed info as possible when reporting any bugs. I'm open to suggestions and are planning to put the source code up here if anyone shows interest.
That's about it - hope it makes someone's life a little brighter.
Hi!
This looks interesting. Is there anyway to cook this into a ROM properly? I dont like to have users make a file in their my documents folder.
Cheers

Thanks...i can have the file live anywhere really, I just chose MyDocuments cause its easy and accessible. It's easy to even have them define in the config tool where they want to save the settings. I'm new to mobile dev and the whole rom cooking thing, so could you expand about what would be needed to cook this app into a rom?
actually after giving it more thought it would be more practical to store this in the registry. I chose to use a text file at first because I was not going to bother have a config app and you could modify it using notepad or something.
In registry would be the most preferred method yes.

[Q] Need Suggestion

Hi Friends,
I am going to develop a windows mobile application for a big shopping mall using VB.NET.
I will appreciate for your suggestion for the below.
1- Can i filter Message using VB.NET and display in my application. For the example if our company send some promotional message, same time i need to invoke my application and display the message in his own window. and not let it go to the default phone message folder?
2- Is there any Service which can run background and keep filtering for all incoming SMS?
3- I will appreciate if anyone can give me link for the messaging development in VB.NET
Thank You
Hi,
For filtering incoming SMS messages, you need to look into the MessageInterceptor class:
h t t p://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb932385.aspx
As for a background "service", you can create an exe project and have it auto-minimise on startup. Add the code to set up the Message Interceptor and display your custom form when a matching message comes in. When the user closes the form, simply minimise back down again. The exe will continue to run unless the user kills it (i.e. in task manager).
When you create your CAB file setup project, open the File System dialog and add a shortcut to the Windows Folder\Startup which targets the Primary Output of your exe. This will ensure the app runs when the user restarts their device.
Hope that helps!
Kind Regards,
PaulM
PaulM,
Thank you for your suggestion, i made a small test application and works like charm )):
After filtering i need to save the message and display it when user need in future. What is the best way to save? XML will be good or other com type should i use to act as database?
Thank You
Hi go4voip,
XML springs to mind, but it depends on security - XML is plain text and can easily be edited by the user on the device.
However, if you wanted more security, you could still use XML but encrypt the data before saving it to a file, then decrypt it before loading it into the XML document. See the System.Security.Cryptography namespace - it's dead easy to use.
Kind Regards,
PaulM

Hi go4voip,
well just to add one more thing here if u use messageinterceptor it may not work for some HD2s as i have faced a lot of issues because of it in one of my app, so i went for a different way. It is basically a native dll.
about saving it google "SQLite" it is mobile db, very small and just a dll...no installation. I used it for my app.
PS: Let me know if you need any help... also you can see two apps in my signature one is SMSFilter that uses the native way of filtering the sms and other one smsrule which uses the messageinterceptor way of filtering. It is verymuch simmilar to what you want.
Thanks,
Mohit
