Video recorded and played with MPC or VLC in Windows 10 is showed face down - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Video recorded and played with MPC or VLC in Windows 10 is showed face down. Some articles talks about the issue of the camera position, but I don't know that the file stored contains the video rotated.

Yes, with the Google Camera App that comes with the Phone. The record was in UHD quality, I don't test it with 1080p but I think that the result will be the same.

known issue for a while now..
Pure stupidity on google/LGs part. they placed the camera image sensor against the android specs recommendation.
Now the software must be updated to fix it.
This impacts many apps (eg: bank apps which scan check images, bar-code scanners, qr code readers.. etc)........
The IRONY is .. most of the third party apps have now been updated and they fix this issue. However, GOOGLE.... hasn't yet fixed the native camera app. they are busy preaching developers of other apps to fix the problem.. Crazy, but true. Sucks.

I'm having the same problem videos looks fine played ba"k on phone & when copied to Pc & playednon Windows media player & latest vlc, older vlc & video editing software show the true orientation, upside down & copy to a flash drive & plug into tv & also upside-down. I have checked the video meta data & the rotation is 180 so that software can rotate to display correct way up.
I guess most users won't be aware of this fault as they just playback on there phones..
Does anyone know if Google is working on a fix.
This is a massive fault as you cannot change the orientation afterwards so all my 4k Christmas videos can never be transferred to a USB stick & played on 4k tv.

To stop nexus 5x recording upside-down videos you Have to hold the phone left handed then videos are correct way up.
Hope Google fix this as most people are right handed, anyway you should be able to hold the phone anyway you want.

If you do not like the quality of the video in the player "YouTube", you can replace it with an alternative "SuperTube Popup YouTube Player". It also supports background playback.

Or you can install an older version of official YouTube app.
Playing a little with viral lite youtube player i found that enabling gpu acceleration makes the videos looks like in the official youtube app. Disabling it makes videos look fine, so i wonder if there's some way to disable gpu acceleration in the youtube app.
I use a completely different solution. I installed the Xposed module App Settings and used it to change the screen resolution for the YouTube app. That way I can choose HD instead of HQ.

How did you do that? Give more details...
Install Xposed Framework and the App Settings module. Open App Settings and navigate to YouTube. Change the settings to something like this:

I installed it today, works nice on our device. Ofcourse, could be even better, but all in all, maybe the best app of this type that I've tried.
Will stick with it, thanks.

Apps and games that aren't working with 4.4.3

Thought this might be useful for anyone considering updating.
So far, I have noticed that Sky Go Tablet doesn't work and from the Sky forums it appears that it doesn't work for any Nexus device that has 4.4.3

Oh, what a surprise. That dev has a history of doing idiotic version checks.

There was an update to MX Player that now works with 4.4.3
Did anyone else notice that Google Currents was in the 4.4.3 update? I know that google stopped supporting it a long time ago. It just seems odd that its still there even though it directs you to the play newsstand as it has been for a while.
I just notice battery usage (probably due to cpu usage) is significantly higher in certain games ( specifically from 30-40% to 60-70% on average)
Skype isn't working too well in video calls for me. The aspect ratio of the front facing camera is screwed up and makes my face look fat when the tablet's in portrait mode, and skinny in landscape mode. Also, if I send Skype to the background while in a call (using the back arrow) to do something else then it stops transmitting video from my tablet.
I'm having issues with the email client crashing. It's has crashed a few times on me since loading 4.4.3.

Eye experience - Features

Hi All,
I am unable to find all the features promised by JRC in the 4.4.4 update. - I personally am using the ARHD 20.1.
Features as described on this page: http://www.htc.com/us/innovations/eye-experience/
Automatic selfies/voice selfies. Found in settings.
Videochat. I have not been able to try this yet.
Split capture. Select it in modes. (Lame)
Crop-me-in. - I am unable to find this option? - We can cut and paste in pictures taken with the main camera, but we could do this before.
Face-fusion. - I am unable to find this option?
Live-makeup - This is found in settings. - I however do not see any change?
Photo booth - selet it in modes. (Really lame)
They write that not all features are available on all devices... We however have the topmodel? - What are your thoughts on this camera update?
What I personally like the most the video capture butten in the main camera interface.
/Benjamin

i think face tracking and multi chat is in hangouts.. this morning i called my mom via hangouts and there was options for face tracking on the top left (maximus HD 8.0)
Experience a better way to video chat with Face Tracking. Sitting perfectly still is no longer necessary, because all you have to do is stay in frame and Face Tracking will automatically focus in on you.
From real-time screen sharing to video chats with up to 4 people, Face Tracking lets you naturally do your thing without compromising quality.
Compatible with most live video services such as Skype, Line, Hangouts, WeChat, and more.

I figured Eye Experience would be a separate update to the Gallery App in the Play Store. It says coming soon on the website, maybe they didn't roll out the graphical/ui changes yet, regardless of the settings being there or not. Crop Me In is exactly cut and paste with the Duo Camera effects stuff.
EDIT: "The HTC EYE Experience features will roll out to the following models in the coming months" IE not out yet.
Note the UI image of the icons.

[Bug] LineageOS 15.1 - Videos on portrait mode stretched to landscape view

Hi,
I am using LineageOS 15.1 Nightly from 4th September 2018, for Xiaomi Mi6. I have had this issue since I installed LineageOS 15.1 for the first time, which was Nightly 14th August 2018.
Every time I play a video that is in portrait mode, the video is rotated and stretched along the screen. This is happening when viewing videos through Whatsapp mainly, but can see the same effect when trying to play videos through the Gallery app, and it seems to stretch the image just as I press play, as before pressing play it is showing it correctly. However, when playing through Google Photos app or MX-player, videos play correctly.
It is mainly annoying when wanting to play a portrait video I've received through whatsapp, as I can't watch it from there and need to go to find the file with a different app (Photos or Mx-Player) that will play it correctly. I would be happy if I could choose within Whatsapp to play videos through MX-Player but it doesn't seem to give me an option to select a different app, even after resetting app preferences.
Has anyone experienced this or a similar issue? Do you have any suggestions on how to solve it?
See 2 pictures below, one before pressing the play button and the other one after having pressed play, showing the stretched image.

I don't have this device but, your best bet is to post this question within the following Official LineageOS thread that's specific to your device.

Screen artifacts / flicker during video playback

It happens when i play video trough Chrome browser, or even Netflix app .. it is happening when i adjust volume or pull down the status bar basically anything that is shown over video ..
but what annoys me the most is that it sometimes happens on its own withouth me doing anything ...
Yes i ve done research before posting and it does seems like i am the only one :/
I had official screen replacement by OnePlus
Running Havoc 2.1 + HDK Kernel 04 and i also tried Skydragon OS and same issue ..
It doesnt happen on OOS

Having the same issue myself occasionally. Running SkyDragon with stock kernel, my phone is also fully stock hardware wise (no replaced parts).
I'm only noticing it in Chrome (don't have Netflix) other video playback apps are fine (YouTube, VLC, my ISP's TV app). Actually I think it only happens on sites with own built-in player, YouTube embeds play fine. It goes away fairly quickly tho, lasts about 5 seconds.

Hmm I've only seen/heard this on replacement panels(screens). My phone doesn't exhibit this issue at all. Its likely something with the kernel and your screen. I've heard ceasium kernel doesn't have the issue but not positive.
Thank you for quick reply i am going to try caesium kernel willl report back
EDIT: I've been testing caesium kernel since yesterday and the glithy screen seems to be really gone THANK YOU HolyAngel
the only downside is that i like your kernel better :/
Ive had same issue on skydragon but i believe it only happens in chrome ...i use a different browser and its gone
yeah i can replace chrome but its also happening while watching netflix for me ...i cant use "other" netflix
I have this issue too, mostly in the Netflix app and sometimes in the gallery. I'm running nitrogen is, but the screen is still original. I'll try the kernel too
Edit: kernel also works for me
