I think I need to be already rooted to use this method, dp I not ?
I need to root and install twrp.
When i had my G2, the forums was buzzing with new Roms, it was pretty much a bullet proof phone, i was hoping for the same with the G4, pretty gutted that its so quiet in these forums for this phone.

No. Just install twrp. Reboot into twrp and install supersu. Be sure to not let twrp auto-install anything to root your phone.

Hope your TWRP sticks, I'm new to this and it took me 3 attempts to get it to stick.
To get into recovery
Hold both power button and volume down button pressed
At first sight of LG logo release power button 1 second, Still holding volume down, then repress power button.
You should now get white screen with just 2 options, select "Reset" , Select with Power button, scroll with volume up/down
Again get white screen and confirm reset
If TWRP is on phone it should now appear.
If its not you are in for a Factory Reset
:
Now do a default backup in TWRP (very handy this)
Then move systemless root zip to phone.
In twrp select install find your "systemless root zip " flash , then reboot using "System" DO not accept option to root your phone offered after selecting- reboot>system.
Hope its goes well

I am on the same boat as OP. I unlocked the bootloader after updating to Marshmallow, so I didn't have TWRP from Lollipop. Now, even though it says that the flashing went okay, there is no recovery to boot into. Using "adb reboot recovery" it shows the android logo with the exclamation mark. If I do it using the hardware buttons, I get the LG's menu to wipe everything or exit.

If you have root there are many apps on play store such as : quick boot, simple boot, quick reboot. Install one of these and and they all all have options for reboot, hotboot, boot to recovery, etc. etc.
I have TWRP on my phone and if I use the standard way to enter recovery , power+volume down, then I will get the standard LG recovery screen but when I accept the recovery options there, it takes me to TWRP

That's the problem, I don't have root. I need TWRP to flash the SuperSU zip, don't I?
EDIT: Wait, do I need to say yes on the stock LG recovery first? The one that says wipe everything?

@ Dante897 No, if you don't have TWRP then don't. don't say yes to LG Recovery or you'll loose everything . You can also run TWRP on your PC and install systemless root zip that way. That maybe what I did, I can't exactly remember now.
I'm off to bed now, last night was a late night too.

I figured it out. You aren't supposed to flash the recovery., you are supposed to boot to it, flash SuperSU and then use Flashify to install TWRP. I did that, but I flashed the wrong SuperSU (I am an idiot I know) and my phone won't boot now. Currently I am in download mode and downloading the rom with LG Bridge . You can follow the guide here if you want http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/unlock-bootloader-install-twrp-root-t3128241 but whatever you do DO NOT flash SuperSU 2.46, grab the newest from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64161125&postcount=3
I cannot say that it will work, all I can tell you is that 2.46 certainly doesn't work.
EDIT: Alright, I let LG Bridge install the update, no wipe happened. I did the process again, this time I flashed SuperSU v2.62-3 and everything went well and my phone is now rooted.

I also had an issue with TWRP sticking. I followed someone else's tip and you have to have the twrp IMG saved on your computer and also on the phone before flashing recovery with fastboot.

Odin Says "Pass", But phone is not rooted.

Hey guys I followed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2235366
I used a file called "CF-Auto-Root-d2spr-d2spr-sphl710.tar"
Everything goes well and I get a green pass from oden3, the phone reboots. But superSU is not installed and when I check "Root checker" there is no root....
I have 4.1.2
Thoughts?
Just download superuser and simply place it on your phones SD card it's really easy

Your phone is not finishing the process it seems. After Odin says pass do you get a big red Android on the screen? If not flash the cf auto root file but uncheck auto reboot in Odin first. Then when it finishes, pull the cable and remove the battery. Reinsert the battery and manually boot to recovery by holding volume up+home+power and it should finish installing root.
I don't know what the post above me is taking about. Installing superuser isn't going to magically give you root. js

It wouldnt brick the phone but if you are seeing the red android then i was mistaken about what your issue is so disregard. Is your phone new? I bet the issue is related to one others are having where recovery cant mount partitions. To confirm that try this. Download this and place on pc http://goo.im/devs/billard412/d2spr/AUTOBOOT_RECOVERY/SPH-L710_TWRP_AUTOBOOT.exe
Its a odin one click that will autoboot you to twrp recovery just open it and click start with your phone connected in download mode.
Download this and place on your sd card. (preferably external)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1584076&d=1356201390
If you can successfully flash that zip, it will root the phone.

It's basically the same thing. Cf auto root will install a special recovery made by chainfire and a cache.img with a root zip. It's supposed to flash that zip then restore stock recovery. I've never seen cf auto root fail to do the job so im not sure what went wrong.
But the way you did it was you installed your own custom recovery and manually flashed a root zip created by me instead. Only thing different here is that you still have that custom recovery instead of stock recovery now.

Got it man, is this custom recovery better than the stock or is it essentially the same? I plan to install a custom rom soon.

The custom recovery is the same with the exception that it gives you additional privileges over stock recovery. Like installing custom roms, so if you're planning on a custom rom soon then you may as well just stick with the custom one. I do however recommend you download goo manager from the playstore and updating your recovery to the newest with it before trying to flash anything. The recovery I gave you may be a little outdated. And if for any reason you want stock recovery back I'll make a odin tar of it and place it in this post

Personally I think the chances of your efs going bad are slim and a backup is more for paranoid people. With that said it never hurts to back it up. I just wouldn't restore it unless you have to.

[Q] Root for Sony T2 ultra Model #D316

I have looked all over and see some threads overlapping other threads, however I am not finding anything for the D5316 Model. I am running Android 4.4.2 Build Number 19.1.A.0.486 The kernel version is from Thu Jul 17 10:07:21 2014. I would like to root and get recovery on it to try a faster rom and get rid of the Sony bloatware. If you have been successful or I missed a link on how to do that please point me in the correct direction...... Thank you in advance.

EDIT: Apparently, it's working now. All I had to do was reflash the ftf file in flashtool and it was able to keep the custom recovery and boot the phone past it....go figure.
Thanks for posting this, I am having some trouble myself and it's really frustrating. I am able to flash both CWM and TWRP. I am even able to boot into these recoveries but I cannot get the damn thing to boot past it. Pretty sure it's the kernel but I cannot find a place that will tell me step by step as to getting custom recovery on the model of this phone. I am still on 4.4.2. Can you please point me in the right direction?

Yes,
Basically what you have to do is download Dual Recovery and put it on your SD card or internal storage on the phone. Download Supersu 2.40 and do the same thing. Then go to the CWM recovery thread and download that. Follow the instructions there. Once you finish following the instructions just boot into CWM recovery, then flash Dual Recovery. Reboot the phone and wait until you see the green light. Press the down key once you see the green light. It should take you into TWRP. After that flash Super Su and then you reboot and let it boot all the way, done. Make sure you are bootloader unlocked and have working ADB AND FASTBOOT on your PC

Let's back up for a second.....
Give me a breakdown one more time from the very beginning.
1.unlock the bootloader
2. Download "dual recovery"and place on sd card
3. Download superuser and place on sd card
4. Install cwm recovery
5. Flash the dual recovery.....why? Is there something wrong with cwm?
6.Flash superuser
At what point is the phone rooted? Does flashing SU do that? I have used tools in the past on other phones. This is my first Sony phone.
If you care to, or the time to...could you please paste the links to each step (assuming I have them all correct or I am not missing something)
I really appreciate you helping this much I was ready to give up on this phone, cause I couldn't get any help! :what::banghead:
just the topic I was looking for!
mind if I follow this? I just bought this phone yesterday. Looking for a way to get Lollipop on it.
I was hoping to get a reply by now. Which model# do you have
I just flashed FXP ASOP 2/23 after I was able to get 2/08 running on the device and now the device won't boot past the android logo. I can get it flashboot mode and rewrite the 3 imgs (boot, system, and user data) however it still won't boot.
Any Ideas?

I am just trying to get root and recovery
I was able to get root by doing the following.
Flash the cwm boot.img. You will not be able to boot android but you will be able to boot to recovery.
Flash the dual recovery from cwm. Go ahead and flash supersu zip as well.
Reboot. Wait till you see the green light (not pink) flash and press the volume down button to boot to twrp or volume up to boot phils recovery.
I used twrp. Once in TWRP, I flashed the rooted stock firmware (mainly to restore a fully working boot.img), and reflashed dual recovery from twrp. Also flash the newest supersu zip.
Maybe a easier way, but worked for me.

CWM RECOVERY doesn't work for me on Note 3 with Lollipop

I've used Odin 3.07 to flash n900t-cwm-recovery-6.0.4.4(1025) but it didn't pass. I'm tired now and I want to go to bed but it bugs me I don't have root.
On 4.2 I think it was easy but on 5.0 it won't work for me, now. I've scoured pages and pages, so for now I am kindly asking for some directions.
Try flashing the latest TWRP and then flash supersu from TWRP to get root.

Read in thread about "Reactivation Lock" but I don't have that option in the stock Lollipop 5.0.
Any ideas?
So your phone is not booting? Boot into download mode and tell us what it says.
Oh no, the phone works fine. I can boot into stock Lollipop but it won't boot into recovery (Vol Up). It boots into Odin Vol Down.
All I want is to install su. First I tried to flash CWM recovery with Odin, didn't pass. Then I tried TWRP (their website is down), it passed but got "Recovery is not Seandroid Enforcing" error. So now I'm lost. I think all have to flash a modified ROM but I'm confused about their specs (what is Deoxified)
Wait wait, Oding IS the recovery, no? I'm totally confused now.
Try this: open Odin and uncheck everything except f.reset time, connect the phone, flash TWRP, when you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove USB cable, remove battery, replace battery, use button combination to boot into recovery.
Thanks for the help. I've tried that sequence before. It didn't work. I'll try it again.
But I've managed to install su using Chainfire's Auto Root for Kitkat (but I have Lollipop). Now I have an older recovery. Will that cause any troubles?
What I've learned from my "ordeal" is make sure you have the right versions. In my case particularly the phone model, N900T, and then the software versions, N900TUVUFOB6, where B6 is the Lollipop (right?).
No no no!
I've rebooted into old recovery now my user interface in Lollipop doesn't work. I guess the recovery deleted some cache (noticed some messages at the bottom)
I guess I'll burn the Lollipop + CF Autoroot for the N-th time and never boot into recovery.

Sorry was busy last few days with minecraft lol. I will get that up in a few and have link for you
Hi there,
I have one question. I have rooted my phone with cf-autoroot method same as you and like you I can't installed custom recovery, weather it be TWARP or CWM. Buy my question isn't this.
I was just randomly checking my app manager for all my apps and found getroot version 1.0 was installed.
Can you confirm me that u have the same thing.
Because it has access to my camera SD card and sms.
Let me know.

Make sure you have patched sd access and set correct path for location.
SD patch
Or use this this version of twrp and open in Odin just as you would cf autoroot.
Uploading now

the enforcing thing is because you have a custom recovery only, it just tells the user that it isn't factory

I installed 7.1.1 by mistake. What now? Help

I bought my 5X in October and came here to root my phone and be able to use the ElementalX and the Advanced Interactive Governor tweaks.
Everything was working fine and my phone really performed outstandingly.
Then I saw the OTA 7.1.1. popping up. I didn't allow it until I installed it by mistake yesterday...
Now I'm stuck with google asking me to lock the bootloader.
I can access the bootloader. I get a lot of options.
I can access the recovery mode and it gets me to RecoveryProject 3.0.2-2 by Teamwin.
I already have the Android platform tools on my desktop and it's working.
From there I have 2 questions :
1. Is there a way to not wipe all the contents on my phone? I didn't get the chance to backup all the data on it.
2. After that how can I get my phone working with the latest android version as I was before, unrooted and running with EX Kernel Manager.
Thanks for your help.
1. try installing the supersu zip from the recovery
2.EX Kernel Manager cannot work without root. so you need to root your device
Thanks a lot for you answer!
1. So by installing SuperSu zip from the recovery I would be able to backup my phone data?
2. I meant rooted sorry. So my phone is already rooted and I'm fine with staying that way.

yes
you can actually backup you device from TWRP recovery.
flash the supersu zip and you will boot normally without any data lose
Insane! thanks a lot.
One more noob question. I got the latest superSu zip.
How can I flash it from the recovery?
How can i transfer it to the phone?
Ok I almost got it.
My only question left is how can I transfer the SuperSu zip file onto my phone since I don't have access to anything else than Bootloader and TWRP

adb sideload from twrp
OK guys thanks. When I use adb sideload in twrp advanced menu it gets stuck on "Starting ADB sideload feature... "
And when I type ADB devices on the command prompt it does not show my device but if I'm just in the menu before sideload it does find my device and says the serial number + recovery.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for helping.
You should be able to transfer files while being in recovery using MTP mode.
How do I use MTP mode? Sorry what does that mean. Can't find an explanation on the internet.
I've looked at all the options in the menu but can't find such a option.
I really feel stupid.
Ok guys I transfered SuperSu to my phone using adb push.
I flashed my phone with SuperSu but when i reboot my phone, it still tells me I need to lock my bootloader.
What shall I do now?
I keep going to the Googl screen with the little locker and then I reach the No Command screen.
The phone won't boot into Android no more. Guys please help I'm desperate. Is my phone dead?
Ok so I guess my phone is now in bootloop.
Still anyone willing to help?
OK I tried many things in despair and now I cannot enter the recovery mode anymore. It just gets stuck on the teamwin screen.
Guess it's time to buy a new phone.
So miracle I could enter the recovery.
Now I don't know where to go. I would like to be able to enter normal android but my phone will keep on showing android screen with little lock and the end on the No command screen. Endlessly.
Ok. THread can be closed. I managed to flash a factory image. Lost all my data but I got a working phone so I guess it's not to bad.

My phone is also rooted with MM fully working !
rooted, debloated by some apps like maps youtube and others I do not use, working buttery smooth. I`m also using Kernel Toolkit with Ondemand (maximum battery profile selected) and Row as I/O scheduler. Works so good man. Also compared to lollipop, it has some slight battery drain but selecting those configurations I stated seemed to help and now battery is good too.
will my phone data be deleted?

Are you sure you're using the latest official TWRP image? For now, reboot to recovery via "adb reboot recovery" instead of the hardware keys.
