Booting to recovery with button combination not working

So, after trying out a few firmwares (JM2, JG8, JM5) and kernels (Samset&OC) I can't no longer boot to recovery with Vol UP + Home + power. I can't really say when this problem first occurred, but maybe with JG8 flash. The strange thing is that I can get to recovery with adb reboot recovery and through android console with reboot recovery (when rooted ofc). Also download mode works great.
Things I have tried:
-flash again to JM2 and JM5 with re-partition checked (512 PIT)
-cleared cache+data through recovery
-factory reset through phone code (this also cleared the internal SD)
-took out the battery multiple times
-booted phone without sim
-flashed phone without sim
-changed CSC with phone code
-restore a nandroid backup of JM2. Recovery worked with this one when I took the backup
-there's no external flash card inserted
Soooo..does anyone have any idea about this kind of problem?
i had a similar problem after trying few ROMs. In my case, when i pres the key combi i get the boot logo and then few seconds later the screen goes black and then i see the boot logo again, and this goes forever. and then i tried pressing the same key combination simultaneously and once i see the boot logo i let go the power button and keep the vol up and home pressed, and then only it went into the recovery mode.
hope it works the same for you
Cheers
Agreed, 99.9% chance you are doing it wrong.

mmthabet: I had the exact same experience. Letting go of the power button when the logo appears lets me enter recovery.
or you may need to take out the battery first for a few seconds... after that, you can reinsert it back and try recovery mode...
at least this work for me...
Thanks for replies but none of the solutions work. The recovery mode button combination DID work for a few weeks, but then just stopped working.
I know that I'm doing it right. I have always pressed vol up and home down until the phone loaded recovery and only briefly pressed power button just at the start. I have also tried to remove battery multiple times and once waited 30 mins before re-inserting it.
Trust me, I'm not doing it wrong :s And recovery is working great through adb reboot recovery and shell.

More so a timing issue. Buttons not pressed at the same time.
I get it all the time for all combo's.
Just keep trying.
You might already have this however just in case you dont, check out Quick Boot.

With this app you can boot into recovery mode. Have to be rooted though.

this wont work, if you bricked the phone in a bad flash situation.
in times when this app works, you can easily do adb reboot recover
so this app still doesn't address the real issue of how to get the 3 buttons press hardware recovery mode

I release the buttons right when the first Samsung texts comes on the screen. It will take it to Recovery mode. I also had a "boot loop" few times, if I keep pressing the buttons all the time.
Have you tried release your fingers right in the first texts? I really don`t know what is exactly the right way to press the buttons, but this always have took it to Recovery.
Looks like my latest full wipe with *2767*3855# cured it. Flashed JM5-->full wipe-->samset1.9b-->samset kernel and now it works. It must've got stuck somehow in my previous JM5 installation.

yes
adb reboot download
but it is dangerous, as you can not recover from a bricked state, if your flash is not compatible or if something went wrong with odin, etc.
I you're bricked and can't get into Download or recovery mode, leave the device to boot, it will just show a black screen for a while then will turn its self off, once this happens you should be able to use the key combo.

I usually release the power button on the boot screen first and then the other two buttons

Any idea how long you waited? Been waiting 5 minutes, hasn't shut off. Mine's a Bell though so I'm guessing I won't have any luck.
The way i do it (no chance of doing it wrong and timing):
hold down+home and then also press the power button for a little more then 10 seconds (so all 3 buttons for 10 seconds). The phone will reset into download mode, never fails in whatever mode the phone originaly was..

[Q] Help any one, is my phone bricked ?

hello every one, so I've been searching the net for two days with no answer, help plz , so my problem is I was trying to theme framework-res.apk from rom : RCMix_234_v2.7 for my personal use, when I pushed the framework-res.apk and rebooted the phone was displaying ( Safe Mode ) in bottom left corner so I pushed back the original one but still nothing (Safe Mode ) on, so I rebooted in recovery format ( system, data, cache ) restored an other rom ( virtuous 2.35 ) to make a clean install of RCMix_234_v2.7 rom again but battery was to low, so I turned the phone off and charged the battery , and ever since , the phone boots only in bootloader without even touching the volume keys ! and the volume ( up/down ) keys don't responde , any ideas ?
PS: fastboot and adb don't see the phone , and now with radio s-off ( warranty is void ),kindly help any one , or is my phone bricked ? sorry for the long story and thanks.
If anyone is interested , it was a hardware problem ( volume down key ) phone is finally in care center , than you all.
I'm not very technical with regards to the steps you were doing at the time, but can you take the battery out and put it back in and then immediately press the power button AND the volume down button at the same time for about 7 seconds? IE. Can you boot it into Recovery?
ive had the same thing before turn the phone off and connect it to usb turn the phone on and it should recognise USB
have u installed htc sync? and / or sdk? i think you didn't install the usb drivers

[TUT] THE way to charge battery if you dont have a rom

My problem was when i flash a new rom the battery was on 40 % and the flash fail.
and i want to try it again ang give the message "not enough battery less then 30%"
The simple way to charge your phone is to download "One_X_All-In-One_Kit_v1.1"
See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604439&highlight=one+x+kit
Then start your phone in bootloader with the usb cable in your PC "Hold Power Button and -volume button"
(If your Battery is realy empty wait 1 min and hold is around 10 sec.)
Then select "fastboot" with the power button en go to "reboot bootloader" do this over and over for arround a half houre.. ( borring job )
If you done this your battery is full enough to flash a recovery "TWRP 2.1.7" Only this one becouse with cwm You cant charge your battery!!!!!
If you done this go to "HBOOT" on you Phone and select "Recovery"
Press power and then shutdown your phone in TWRP!!
If you done this put him in the charge and after a while start you phone and go again to recovery and you can see you BATTERY%!!!!
Not full?? SHUT IT DOWN and wait longer.. he only charge when you shut him down!
good luck.. if this dont work ask.. i have also a other way .. updat comes later....
ICEMAN
Then use the latest cwm. Charging is fixed.

Is the phone dead?

Hello Dears.,'
It seems my phone is finished.Yesterday I flashed the Philz Recovery through Mobile Odin(through Recovery option). But as usual it showed 'Flashing and Rebooting',but the phone shut down without going to recovery. Then I tried flashing through PC Odin through PDA.After showing PASSED in Odin I disconnected the phone from the PC.But the phone did not reboot into recovery. So I was not able confirm whether Philz Recovery was installed. In order to confirm that I tried to go to recovery by pressing Power,Vol Up & Home buttons after shutting down the phone. But their was no response in the phone. So I tried Download Mode by pressing the Power,Vol Down & Home buttons. This time the phone went to Download load mode.So I again flashed Philz. This time also the phone didn't reboot to recovery. So I tried to enter recovery manually as before. This time also no response. So I made ON the phone opened M Odine and flashed PhIlz again. But the same result as before. I shut the phone down and tried the recovery manually again. No response. Then tried Download mode manually. This time no response for this also. Also I tried with JIG to enter Download mode(by pulling out battery, replacing it again and putting the JIG in the micro USB port without making ON the phone). For this also no response. And when tried to make the phone ON it does not respond to the Power button also.Today I tried to make the phone ON several times by pressing the Power Button without any results. The battery was with 80% charge when I tried flashings. Is the phone dead? What is the option now?I noticed the delay in powering up the phone from shut down(for about 25 to 30 minutes) earlier itself after flashing the 23 toggle mods with Modin .Is that symptom developed eventually to this state?Any how I am very desperate now.So will anybody please offer a remedy, if possible?Waiting anxiously for an immediate reply with thanks,

If your phone's charging/data port is broken, I suggest that you should not continue with your plan. Coz if things went wrong, and your phone doesn't load your Android OS anymore and needs to connect to PC that would be the end.

Phone bricked, no download mode, can't recover

So, as the title says. My phone decided to do a little update through OTA. All fine, all good.
However, during the update it suddenly switched off and rebooted. Then a nice screen popped up with the ominous message: "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use smart switch to restore the firmware". Great!
So, hooked up the phone to that app, but it says unsupported device. The emergency recovery list also remains empty. Thus, a little Google-fu later and it seemed I could also do it with Odin. I know Odin, so no problem.
Downloaded the latest firmware with Frija, extracted, loaded into Odin. Then, I tried to enter download mode by holding vol up+down while plugging in the device. No dice, still the error message. Tried it countless times with different timings, but it simply will >not< enter download mode.
I cannot turn the phone off either. Anyone knows what to do? All stores are closed for the next 2 months due to Corona so I have no phone at the moment.
ohhhhh wait to open samsung store to fix

power button & volume - for 7 secs , release when it vibrates , and immediately power button ( for 1 sec and release ) & volume + ( keep pressed ) , to get into recovery
From recovery there is an option to get into download mode
Requires perfect timing , yes ! but you will get it right
Cheers

The buttom combos do no longer work. It seems there is no download mode or recovery anymore.
Anyway, the phone now completely died on me so I have to sent it in for repairs. It will no longer even charge or turn on anymore.

I'm having the same problem. Ugh. Can't get into recovery mode
To go into download mode at least on the n975u model you turn off the phone then hold volume up and down and insert the usb cable. It should boot into the download mode.
here is the solution
keep it running to empty out the battery
make sure its dead by powering up ur device
if u r sure its dead, keep pressing the combo and connect u r device to pc.
congrats,

And from there i think if you plug it in to odin you will find that the phone is still in download mode despite not showing the correct screen. Ive flashed firmware before with the triangle warning screen on instead of download mode, it works fine. So long as there is a blue indicator showing in odin then you can flash the device.

My brother you saved my life thank you
To anyone coming across this thread, I had the same issue as OP. Bought a "new" Galaxy S10e SM-G970F which turned out to be SM-G970N. Everything worked except updates, but I managed to flash the latest version through ODIN.
A few months later, when I tried to flash a new version, the ODIN transfer stopped mid-way and the phone rebooted to a lightblue screen with korean letters and "Smart Switch" written in English. However, Smart Switch declared that the model is not supported for reinitialization.
I tried to reach download mode somehow, as the phone could not be turned off using a key combination or via PC at this state. What @GeeAyeZee and @pcriz said is absolutely correct, THIS SCREEN IS INDEED CONSIDERED DOWNLOAD MODE.
I persisted with ODIN, trying to flash the new version 2-3 more times (rebooting the phone and PC between attempts) until eventually the process completed! Phone is unbricked. Hope this helps someone.
